Okeeheelee Park is the Sports Commission’s Key Venue for

August

USA BMX Gold Cup, August 5-6:

The Palm Beach County Sports Commission partnered with Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation and the Okeeheelee BMX Parent Council to bring the USA BMX Gold Cup to Okeeheelee Park and its renowned BMX Track. This event brings over 300 BMX riders and nearly 1,000 total visitors from across the nation. The event features youth divisions for boys and girls, from 9 years of age to high school. The USA BMX Gold Cup also has divisions for professional riders.

The Sports Commission also supported the USA BMX Florida State Championship, which took place on January 21-23, which created 1,041 room nights. The USA BMX Gold Cup will deliver a strong tourism impact during the month of August, which is traditionally one of the slowest months for Palm Beach County’s hospitality industry.

Okeeheelee BMX is Palm Beach County's only BMX racetrack. It is ranked number one in the eastern United States as well as Florida's number one track for the past 10 years.

GOODE Water Ski National Championships, August 9-12:

The Palm Beach County Sports Commission and the Ski Club of the Palm Beaches have partnered to host USA Water Ski & Wake Sports’ 81st GOODE Water Ski National Championships at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach from August 9-12, 2023. This year’s event will mark the fifth time the National Championships has been held in The Palm Beaches and the first time since 2019.

The nation’s top water ski athletes will compete for national titles in slalom, tricks, jumping, and overall, in respective age divisions and two open divisions during the four-day event. Over 600 adult participants, 200 youth participants, and thousands of spectators will travel from across the nation to participate in this event.

In addition to the thrills and excitement that will be generated by this action-packed event, the GOODE Water Ski National Championships will bring tremendous economic benefits to the local community. This event will fill thousands of room nights during the month of August while creating an enormous level of economic benefits for Palm Beach County’s hospitality industry. In 2019, the event filled over 2,000 hotel room nights and created an estimated $1.5 million in visitor spending.

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports is the national governing body for the sport, which is comprised of more than 600 member clubs throughout the nation. The Palm Beach County Sports Commission is supporting the Ski Club of the Palm Beaches and its efforts to organize the GOODE Water Ski National Championships. The Ski Club of the Palm Beaches is one of the most active and productive clubs in the country and partners with Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation to maintain five freshwater ski lakes custom-designed for competition waterskiing at Okeeheelee Park.
