#12 CREDIT RIVER The Credit River and watershed is an impressive natural feature that defines Mississauga. A rich history of Indigenous settlement has been documented along the river over 10,000 years, and its shores were the ancestral home to the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation. Much of the river can still be traversed by canoe or kayak, and some 37 parks and natural areas in Mississauga preserve the natural beauty and wildlife for people to enjoy every day. ,

Kids will love exploring a magical world at Paul Coffey Park in Malton (formerly Wildwood Park), where a unique new playground depicts a classic children’s fairytale, complete with castles and dragons. You’ll find turrets to climb, slides to zip down and whimsical sculptures of a wizard, farm animals and other characters. #3 GOLFING Two city-run, public courses offer you an accessible ways to hit the links. Braeben Golf Course (32,, braeben.ca) has a 18-hole championship course and 9-hole Academy course, with must-see vistas of the city. The historic Lakeview Golf Course (33,, lakeview.ca) dates to 1907 and has been cited among the Top 50 Ontario Golf Clubs. The picturesque course has twice hosted the Canadian Open.

Another public course, Grand Highland Golf Club (34,, golfcaledon.com), is conveniently located in the heart of the city. The par-three, nine-hole executive course offers skyline views, to practice your short game or squeeze in a quick round. dK $

• The Credit River boasts large runs of chinook salmon and steelhead as well as some coho and Atlantic salmon. Popular fishing spots include Erindale Park 24, for salmon and trout, J.C. Saddington Park 50,, for carp, salmon and trout.

• Thousands of sport fishing enthusiasts also ply the waters of Lake Ontario for Chinook and Coho Salmon, as well as rainbow trout, brown trout and lake trout. It’s a proud part of Mississauga history that the Ontario wine industry began right here in the 1860s: The village of Cooksville was once site of Canada’s first commercial winery that produced wines at Clair House, under the label Chateau Clair. Mississauga-based Old Credit Brewing Co. Ltd. crafts its Amber Ale, Pale Pilsner and Holiday Honey beer in small batches without additives or preservatives. The brewmaster lets the beer mature for eight weeks at 3.5 degrees below zero Celsius—the first North American microbrewery to adopt this rare process.
