Only a 55-minute drive from downtown Kelowna, Big White Ski Resort sets the bar for outdoor adventures in the snow. Canada’s largest, totally ski-in ski-out village makes it easy for skiers and snowboarders to access downhill terrain covered in that trademark Okanagan Champagne Powder. There are easy runs for beginners, gentle forested glades for intermediates, groomed cruisers for speed demons, and knee-knocking steeps in high alpine bowls for the expert set. There’s plenty for non-riders to do, too. The Happy Valley Adventure Centre at the bottom of the gondola is your base for ice-skating, tubing, ice climbing, dog sledding, and sleigh rides.

NO TIME LIKE NOW TO TRY FAT BIKING Fat biking—mountain biking on wide winter tires—has taken off in Kelowna, too. In MyraBellevue Provincial Park there are 155-km of multi-use trails that wind through a pine forest past ancient rock outcrops. Depending on the amount of white stuff, you might be able to just hike the paths instead! Guaranteed snowpack can be found higher up at the Myra Canyon Trestles, part of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail.

and the Kelowna Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Club on Hwy 33 are two more spots where you can step into snowshoes or click into skinny skis for winter fun.

Kelowna and the surrounding area is also home to over 40 wineries, most of which have tasting rooms open all season and pour everything from crisp Pinot Auxerrois to complex Zweigelt.

It’s an opportunity to sample award-winning wines in a casual setting with fewer crowds—you might even meet the winemaker!

The icy-cold weather also brings something special and quintessentially Canadian to our local vineyards, the harvesting of Icewine.

Created using grapes that have

frozen on the vine, it’s known for its sweetness and complex flavours.

Let someone else do the driving and enjoy the full experience of our winter wineries on a Wicked Wine Tour. Choose four or five wineries to visit in a region—Kelowna’s Southeast Bench, the Lakeshore Wine Route, the Westside Wine Trail in West Kelowna, or the Scenic Sip in Lake Country—then sit back and enjoy the pleasant scenery of snow-dusted vineyards perched high above Okanagan Lake. If you’re looking for a more family-friendly experience, Arion Therapeutic Farm is a sanctuary for farm animals offering interactive tours and programs as well as a vegan cafe.

Downtown Kelowna is a great place to stroll along the waterfront, where moored sailboats bob in a lake that rarely freezes. Ice skate at Stuart Park and then warm up by the bonfire and admire the twinkling lights across the water.

The city’s Cultural District buzzes all season with new exhibits at museums and galleries, WHL hockey games at Prospera Place, live music and winter markets at Sandhill Winery, and plays and musicals at community theatres.

Comfort food abounds, too. Pop into a cozy café for a cappuccino, sip a hearty stout at a craft brewery, or dig in to warming, seasonal fare at one of the many restaurants and tapas bars in the core. For a more

elevated dining experience, visit one of the winery restaurants such as the newly-opened Home Block at CedarCreek Estate Winery, which offers spectacular panoramic views of the lake.
