Raiatea-Taha’a Ra’iatea the ‘sacred island’ and Taha’a the ‘vanilla island’ are encircled by a common lagoon. The area has naturally become one of the top locations for sailing, deep sea fishing and scuba diving.

Ra’iatea, meaning “faraway heaven” and “sky with soft light,” was first named Havai’i as is considered by many to be the spiritual seat of the Polynesian Triangle. Recognized as the most sacred island in the region, the green-carpeted mountains rise to the cloud-capped peak of the celebrated Mt. Temehani. As the first Polynesian island to be populated, Ra’iatea shelters the most spectacular and first international marae of the Polynesian triangle, called Taputapuatea. The expansion of Polynesians throughout the Pacific began on Ra’iatea from this exact site. After offering blessings through sacred ceremonies and celebrations, outriggers with original settlers ventured north to Hawaii and New Zealand - entire tribes sailing off to colonize new shores.

Just across the lagoon, Taha’a will sweep you away into the traditional, tranquil life of the Tahitians.

The flower-shaped island’s simple beauty comes in soft mountains, surrounded by tiny motu with bright, white-sand beaches. Vanilla-scented air wafts on breezes that flow down the hillsides from numerous vanilla farms, and these soft aromas ride the ocean breezes announcing the soul of the island long before you even see it on the horizon.

Jet Ski and Vahine Island - Private Full Day inc Lunch A different way to visit the island of Tahaa is to do it from the water! On your jet-ski and with your guide, you will be exploring this very untouched island.

First stop is the Champon Pearl Farm where you learn bout this gem from our waters. Not only will you receive information on the farming of this gem, but you will learn about its history.

This is a rather special experience as most of the pearl farms are located in the Tuamotu & Gambiers Islands.

There will then be a snorkelling stop with the sharks, in the lagoon followed by a Vanilla farm visit.

The Tahitian Vanilla is among the most fragrant of all but it is also very special. Unlike other flowers, the Vanilla orchid is pollinized by hand, which requires skilful hands. Once the pods are collected, they are dried out in the sun and massaged everyday to ensure the beans are all throughout the pod. The cost of Tahitian Vanilla is pretty high, but knowing how they are grown justifies the price.

Leaving Taha’a Island, you will venture across the waters to the nearby island of Vahine Island, with a snorkelling stop at the Vahine Island Coral Garden. Lunch is served at the Vahine Island. After lunch, it is possible to visit the rum factory. (This is upon request, no additional fee.)

Then finish off the day with a fun and adventure cruise on your Jet Ski back to Taha’a.

You can also explore Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu on a guided hike or Jeep Safari tour.

Since water is a way of life on the island, popular lagoon excursions include snorkeling, diving, cruising, fishing, paddle boarding, kitesurfing, Jet Skiing, and of course, shark and ray feeding.
