Raiatea-Taha’a Ra’iatea the ‘sacred island’ and Taha’a the ‘vanilla island’ are encircled by a common lagoon. The area has naturally become one of the top locations for sailing, deep sea fishing and scuba diving.

Ra’iatea, meaning “faraway heaven” and “sky with soft light,” was first named Havai’i as is considered by many to be the spiritual seat of the Polynesian Triangle. Recognized as the most sacred island in the region, the green-carpeted mountains rise to the cloud-capped peak of the celebrated Mt. Temehani. As the first Polynesian island to be populated, Ra’iatea shelters the most spectacular and first international marae of the Polynesian triangle, called Taputapuatea. The expansion of Polynesians throughout the Pacific began on Ra’iatea from this exact site. After offering blessings through sacred ceremonies and celebrations, outriggers with original settlers ventured north to Hawaii and New Zealand - entire tribes sailing off to colonize new shores.

Just across the lagoon, Taha’a will sweep you away into the traditional, tranquil life of the Tahitians.

The flower-shaped island’s simple beauty comes in soft mountains, surrounded by tiny motu with bright, white-sand beaches. Vanilla-scented air wafts on breezes that flow down the hillsides from numerous vanilla farms, and these soft aromas ride the ocean breezes announcing the soul of the island long before you even see it on the horizon.

Your Taha’a native guide, is excited to share his passion for his home land to the rest of the world. From exceptional panoramic sites from the peaks, to the shorelines of the island, you will learn about the botany of Taha’a, its plants, and endemic tree species.

You will visit a local rum distillery where they will unveil the secrets of fabrication from sugar cane to bottle, and of course you can’t visit a rum distillery without rum tasting! Then you will visit a working Vanilla Plantation to discover the history of the vanilla, and how to produce this black gold with ancestral techniques combined with modernization.

Next you will also be introduced to pearl farming! Taha’a has some sites that have the reputation of producing pearls with brilliant luster, particularly bright, intense colors, including very rare copper red. In the idyllic and wild setting of the southern tip of Taha’a within a pearl farm that exploits more than 100 000 pearls and produces 20 000 pearls, harvest your own pearl!

Alongside an experienced diver, you will swim near the pontoon, only 5 meters deep, above a white sand bottom is the mother of pearl spat. Choose your pearl oyster in this extraordinary clear and luminescent lagoon. When you come out of the water, the mother of pearl will be opened in front of your eyes. This pearl will have an indefinable charm because you will have harvested yourself. You can mount your pearl on leather. Silver, white gold, yellow gold or neoprene mounts are an optional extra.
