Our arts and culture scene is thriving, with ever-changing exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Burlington, world-renowned performers on stage at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, and numerous museums to explore. Joseph Brant Museum Transformed

The Joseph Brant Museum has been completely transformed and will be reopening this summer. The 17,000 sq.ft expansion incorporates the original Joseph Brant house into the design and includes environmentally friendly features, barrier-free space for gallery displays, and more interactive exhibits. The renewed Museum will have increased educational programming, travelling showcases and exhibitions that highlight the impressive collections. The Museum is named after Burlington’s first citizen, Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea), who represents the importance of the First Nations in shaping our nation.

Paradise Found @ Royal Botanical Gardens If you haven’t visited the RBG recently it is worth another trip. Over the last few years the gardens, trails and buildings have been transformed including an Atrium at the RBG Centre with a living wall; a huge Rock Garden restoration project with a new visitor centre, restaurant and banquet space; many new gardens and trails with amazing public art installations; and a revitalized Rose Garden. These enhancements have increased events, programs and experiences for visitors of all ages along with adopting more sustainable practices. Rediscover Paradise at the RBG.
NUVO Network NUVO Network, a former 150,000 sq. ft broadcast station, is a re-imagined workspace housing a vibrant ecosystem for entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation and collaboration. Formerly known as the Crossroads Centre, NUVO Network is a synergetic, secular space connecting entrepreneurs, content creators, and community champions, providing access to state-of-the-art multimedia facilities (podcasting, video production and recording studios) and event spaces for the community. As a community landmark, NUVO Network hosts open mic nights, lunch & learns, fundraisers and is home to the Burlington Sound of Music Festival and their future Hall of Fame.

Rest Easy at new Hotels The Burlington Courtyard by Marriott opened in late 2018. Conveniently located adjacent to the Burlington Convention Centre this upscale hotel has 135 guest rooms, a variety of meeting spaces, a salt-water pool, BISTRO restaurant and lounge and many state of the art amenities such as electric car charging stations and accessible rooms. In 2020 another two properties will be opening in the city, the boutique style Autograph by Marriott along the beautiful waterfront and the Hampton Inn north of the QEW on Appleby Line near the Appleby Ice Centre.
Historic Freeman Station

This historic 1906 Grand Trunk Railway Station has been passionately restored by local volunteers and features numerous displays, a small gift shop, and a collection of historical railway memorabilia. On the lower level, a model railway diorama depicts bucolic life in the hamlet of Freeman, now part of Burlington, in the early twentieth century. For all their efforts the Friends of Freeman Station were recognized with a Burlington Best Heritage award in 2018. The station is located at 1285 Fairview St. just east of the Burlington Central Fire Station and is open for special events including Heritage month, Canada Day, Doors Open and by group appointment.

Renewed & Renamed Centre With a recent $60 million renovation, Burlington Centre (formerly Burlington Mall) welcomed a series of new tenants into the property just in time for their 50th anniversary. New to the centre are specialty grocery store Denninger’s, Indigo and Indigo Kids with a Starbucks inside, a revamped Winners and a series of new food offerings in the renovated food court. The Centre also has a dedicated permanent community space, The Hub, which features exhibits and activities by local artists and organizations.
#BurlON Cycle Friendly The Burlington area is a wonderful place to cycle in all seasons with scenic rural roads, picturesque waterfront trails and historic downtown routes. Some of our major attractions such as Bronte Creek Provincial Park and Conservation Halton Parks also have trail networks at their locations. Burlington has been recognized with a Bicycle Friendly Community Award Silver designation from Share the Road Cycling Coalition. 11

40 Years of Amazing Music The Burlington Sound of Music Festival, the largest free music festival in Canada is celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2019. From their ticketed Kick-off Concert on June 8 featuring Bush, Live, Crownlands, and the Headstones, to the Club Series that brings local talent to the spotlight one show at a time, and of course the Grande Festival Parade, an ongoing tradition since 1980, there’s no shortage of entertainment on every corner. The Downtown Streetfest, Children’s Village, carnival, vendors and FREE concerts on five stages on Father’s Day Weekend never cease to draw crowds of all ages, from near and far.
