Ajourney to Africa involves learning about the history and its heritage. It is the cradle of humanity and of ancient African Kingdoms. However more recently the people have suffered exploitation and have been robbed of the capacity to shape their own destiny. With resilience and selfdetermination, they have risen to independence. It’s an ongoing process and many still live with the consequences of mis-governance. Yet they are such warm-hearted and welcoming people with much hope and dignity. They are proud of their ancient heritage and are willing to show their beautiful land to those that care to see and learn. A journey to Africa will leave you inspired and grateful for the joy you experience.
At Touch Nature, we are very dedicated to conservation, nature, wildlife and the communities living within wilderness areas. We work with partners and organisations such as the African Bush Camps Foundation, who put incredible effort into restoring habitat, reducing animal-human conflict, and expanding education.
The African Bush Camps Foundation (ABC Foundation) are dedicated to sustainable development and work to empower rural populations in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana that are situated in vulnerable wildlife areas. Through education, community empowerment, community infrastructure and conservation, they aim to create these opportunities.
The desire to create a more resilient future for Africa, its people, and its wildlife resources resulted in the establishment of the Africa Change Makers movement. Every trade partner will be able to contribute a minimum of $5 USD each bed night through the #africachangemakers fund, which will be used as a “war chest” to address future challenges. Every potential traveler to Africa who does so while accompanied by a #africachangemakers partner will have the chance to contribute to the long-term sustainability of our magnificent African continent.

At our camp, we prioritize fresh and healthy cuisine, prepared with expertise over an open fire. Our kitchen revolves around the concept of using locally sourced ingredients that reflect the seasonality of Maun's offerings. As a result, our menu evolves accordingly, ensuring that you savor the freshest flavors throughout your stay. With our talented chef, Mwinga, leading the way, we take pride in creating a culinary safari experience that surpasses expectations. From exquisite dishes to generous portions, our goal is to provide you with a remarkable dining experience that caters to various dietary preferences.
To complement our delectable cuisine, we have curated a beverage selection that showcases premier brand spirits and an assortment of spirits from small boutique distilleries worldwide. Whether you prefer a classic cocktail or an innovative concoction, our well-stocked bar is equipped to satisfy even the most discerning palate.
As wine enthusiasts ourselves, we have meticulously handpicked a selection of wines from some of South Africa's finest vineyards in the picturesque Cape region. Collaborating closely with the passionate winemakers, we have chosen wines that align with our ethos of operating with a light ecological footprint. These exceptional wines are transported with care in a refrigerated truck all the way to Maun and stored in a dedicated cold room at our base. The result is a thoughtfully crafted wine list that perfectly complements our culinary offerings, enhancing your dining experience with every sip.
Indulge in the art of gastronomy and beverage excellence during your stay with us. Let us take you on a sensory journey where every meal and drink is a testament to our commitment to quality, flavor, and sustainability. From the tantalizing aromas that waft from our open-fire kitchen to the exquisite wines that grace your glass, our aim is to provide you with an unforgettable dining experience that reflects the essence of our camp and the remarkable destination we call home.
A paramount reason for your visit to our camp
Aparamount reason for your visit to our camp is the extraordinary wildlife experience that awaits you. Nestled in a secluded corner of the Okavango Delta, the Kweene River system boasts an abundance of untouched wildlife, making it a truly exceptional destination. Few places in the world can offer the level of exclusivity that we provide. As the Kweene Trails are reserved for private groups on a sole-use basis, you can relish in the fact that during our game drives, walks, or tranquil mokoro rides along the waterways, we will encounter no other humans. This complete seclusion has shaped an unparalleled safari experience, where the area feels truly wild and unspoiled. We have thoughtfully developed a network of game drive routes to preserve the untouched beauty of this remarkable landscape while still allowing us to explore the adjacent dry land habitats and witness wildlife sightings from our comfortable game drive vehicles.
However, one of the defining features of the Kweene Trails is the opportunity to embrace the essence of walking through pristine wilderness untouched by human presence. We have intentionally left a vast portion of the area inaccessible to motorized transport, reviving the spirit of oldfashioned safaris. Walking through the wildest reaches of Africa, guided solely by our senses, we immerse ourselves fully in the sights, sounds, scents, and tactile sensations of the Okavango. Our walks can range from a leisurely stroll covering a few hundred meters over several hours to more extensive treks, depending entirely on your desires and the captivating happenings in the bush on that particular day. We ensure you stay nourished and hydrated with light snacks and ample water throughout the journey.
During certain periods, typically from May to August, we have the opportunity to explore the Kweene River system using traditional Mokoro dugout canoes. These age-old river crafts perfectly navigate the shallow waters, allowing us to glide peacefully while absorbing the enchanting atmosphere of this water wonderland. Our experienced guides expertly pole the mokoros from the back, while you sit in comfort, marveling at the surrounding beauty. Along the way, we may pause to explore captivating islands or, for the adventurous souls, take a refreshing dip in the chilly winter waters of the Okavango—always in safe areas, of course!
The greater Okavango region offers an astonishing array of diverse experiences, some of which we can unlock by incorporating a helicopter into our adventures. Whether for a day or a few days, the presence of a helicopter enables us to explore the region from an entirely different perspective. With the pilot seamlessly joining our safari team and staying in camp with us, we enjoy the luxury of flexibility, soaring through the skies whenever and wherever we desire. Prepare for an extraordinary wildlife immersion where the untamed beauty of the Okavango Delta becomes your playground. The Kweene Trails are your gateway to unforgettable encounters, rich in biodiversity, and guided by our commitment to preserving this pristine wilderness for generations to come.
What should I pack?
When packing for your trip, keep in mind that luggage is usually limited to 20kgs, so it's advisable to pack light. Laundry services are provided at all our camps, but please note that camp staff will not wash underwear. Opt for comfortable, casual, and semi-casual "wash and wear" clothing that blends into the bush. Classic safari colors like khaki and stone are recommended, and they can be paired with taupe, pecan, or cadet colors as long as they remain neutral to the environment. Avoid wearing white when walking in the bush, as it stands out and quickly shows dust and dirt. It's also advisable to pack a warm jacket for early morning game drives, sandals, and a pair of safari boots or trainers. Essential items to pack include mosquito/bug repellent, suntan lotion/sunblock, and a pair of polarized sunglasses. If you wear contacts, bring contact lens solution and extra sets of disposable lenses. Visit our website for a more detailed packing list.
What vaccinations are required?
Visit a travel clinic or your doctor's office at least 4 to 8 weeks before your departure to allow time for immunization to take effect. Consult your doctor for any other vaccines that may be required, such as typhoid, hepatitis A and B, and rabies, which are usually recommended.
While the chances of contracting malaria in our camps are slim due to their remote locations, it is strongly advised to take preventative measures as you will be traveling in malarial areas. Protect yourself with malaria prophylaxis.
Do I need a visa?
The need for a visa depends on your travel destination. Generally, a valid passport with enough blank pages is required, along with all necessary visas obtained prior to departure (unless available on entry). Visa requirements can change over time and vary from country to country, so it's important to double-check this information with your agent or the nearest embassy/consulate before you travel.
What currency is used?
During your time in the bush, our camps are fully inclusive, so you won't need any money. However, if your safari itinerary includes a third-party lodge or hotel, there may be additional charges for meals, drinks, and souvenirs that require cash. Consult your itinerary or confirm with your travel agent for specific details on what is included at the lodges you'll be visiting. When flying out of Zimbabwe, there is an airport departure tax that is not included in the cost of the safari, so ensure you have the exact amount of US dollars in cash before leaving your home country.
The local currencies used in Botswana and South Africa are Pula and Rand, respectively, but the official legal tender in Zimbabwe is the US dollar (though Rand is also accepted). Carrying up to US$100 in smaller denominations is advisable, as it is widely accepted in the region.
What is the policy for staff gratuities?
Staff gratuities are at the guest's discretion, but we can provide a brief guideline to assist you. For guides, a minimum of US$5-10 per guest per day is recommended if they have done a good job. If you have a specialist guide accompanying you throughout, US$15 per guest per day is recommended. For camp staff, we suggest about US$5-10 per guest per day, which can be placed in a communal tipping box for equal distribution among all staff members. In restaurants and hotels, a 10% gratuity is customary if you are satisfied with the service.
What facilities are available for electronics and charging equipment?
Depending on the properties you are visiting, it's advisable to check the availability of electronic charging facilities. Some of our camps do not have permanent power and therefore do not offer private charging facilities in each room
