JOIN THE TOWN’S NEWEST AND GREENEST PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM! The Town of Superior is looking to partner with businesses, local communitybased groups, and individuals to help support our zero-waste community events and other sustainability efforts. These groups will form Green Teams as a part of a first-of-a-kind Town partnership program.

Why form a Green Team partnership with the Town? •G reen Teams will receive unique incentives and/or recognition specific to your organization or group’s needs based on tiers of services. • Support the Town of Superior’s municipal goal to keep 65% of waste out of the landfill by 2025 through reducing consumption, recycling, reusing and composting. • Increase the community’s understanding and execution of zero-waste efforts. • Town of Superior Green Team T-shirt for all Green Team members. • Special Green Team recognition at the Town’s volunteer celebration event.

CULTURAL ARTS

The Town of Superior Cultural Arts and Public Spaces (CAPS) Advisory Committee brings a wide range of creativity to the community in the form of small events, workshops and the selection of artworks for the public art collection. Check out the Cultural Arts webpage for more information.

SUPERIOR EN PLEIN AIR PAINTING FESTIVAL Painting in Purple Park is back! The CAPS committee is proud to host the 2022 En Plein Air Painting Festival on Saturday, October 1, 10 a.m. to 1:00 PM at Purple Park, located at 1310 S. Pitkin Avenue. Plein air painting, the act of painting “live” outdoors, was essential to many impressionist artists such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. During the event, the public will be invited to stroll around the park to watch over a dozen artists create their masterpieces. Additionally, a separate activity station will be available for youths and other participants who would like to try their hand at making art. Music, food and other activities will also be available at this artful fall event.

HIDDEN TREASURES

The CAPS committee recently purchased the sculptural series Hidden Treasures by artist Scottie Burgess -- and treasures they are! The series of 7 cast bronze hands holding large gem crystals were initially on loan to the Town as part of the ARTery pilot project. Residents have come to adore locating the hidden artworks that are installed both inside and outside the vicinity of the Superior Community Center. Come treasure hunting to find them all!

Come Play!

Autrey Park Pickleball Courts

Come play at Superior’s six pickleball courts at Autry Park. If you are a beginner and would like to try out the sport but don’t have a paddle, come and check one out from the Superior Community Center. (Quantities are limited to first-come, first-served). Courts are open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, and operate on an Open Play system. Please visit superiorrec.com for drop-in “Open Play" hours.

OPEN PLAY “Paddle Holder” SYSTEM When all courts are full and other players are waiting: All games will be played to 11, win by 1. Waiting players place a paddle for each player on the paddle rack. When a game finishes, players announce “Open Court”. The court is then vacated for the waiting players with paddles on the rack. When players move to the court to begin play, they have a 5-minute warmup period and then begin play to 11, and win by 1. Waiting players advance their paddles forward on the paddle holder and will play on the next available court. The process repeats as long as others are waiting to play.
