The City of Torrance will be charging a non-refundable fee for all credit and debit card transactions. This fee will help recover some of the costs associated with credit card fees. Please visit our website for the current transaction fee.
Fees listed represent the cost for residents/non-residents. Makeup classes are NOT offered for classes missed by students. Fees are NOT pro-rated for students that register late.
Active Military personnel and their immediate dependents are eligible to receive a 10% discount (up to a maximum of $10 per program or class per participant) on Community Services programs and classes. Torrance residents will be required to provide current proof of residency when registering for the first time, if you move to a different Torrance address, or if mail is returned. Acceptable forms of proof of residency MUST be current and will be limited to the following:
• California Driver’s License (with current address)
• Car Registration or Car Insurance Premium
• Utility Bill such as: gas, electric, Torrance water or trash, or a cable bill (telephone bills, bank statements, mortgage statements, rental agreements, and satellite bills are NOT accepted).
Torrance residents may register for classes and programs prior to non-residents. A Torrance resident is defined as anyone living within the Torrance city limits. Those living in the 90502 zip code and the 90501 zip code east of Western Avenue are considered non-residents. Non-residents are welcome to register for classes, but pay an additional non-resident fee for most classes.
Financial scholarships are available for Torrance residents and may be used for qualifying individuals under the age of 18 or over the age of 50 (proof of age is required). For more information on this program, and to obtain an application, see Forms and Supply Lists at www.TorranceCA.Gov/ClassRegistration.
Once a class is filled, participants will be placed on a waiting list. If a vacancy occurs, wait list participants will be notified by phone or e-mail in the order they were placed on the list. Please be sure the Registration Office has your correct contact information on file. If we are unable to reach you, we will remove you from the wait list.

YOQI QIGONG FLOW WITH SOUND BATH MEDITATION
Qi” means “life force energy”. YoQi Qigong Flow is a moving meditation. Join the fun this school year! The After School Club (ASC) Program is a partnership between the City of Torrance Community Services Department and the Torrance Unified School District. This recreation-based program provides a safe, engaging environment for students after school.
Participants enjoy homework time, arts and crafts, games, sports, community service projects, and walking field trips. The program follows the Torrance Unified School District calendar.
Program Locations:
ASC is available for students in 1st–8th grade on school days from August through June, ending at 6:00 PM.

The Victor E. Benstead Plunge is a 50 by 20 meter heated outdoor pool. The pool is divided into two 8-lane, 25-yard and 26 meter sections, and offers a variety of aquatic programs. Men’s and women’s locker room facilities are available for day use with restrooms and showers.
Proper swim attire is required to enter the pool and deck area. T-shirts, shorts, and street clothing are not allowed. Attire for more complete coverage such as a rash guard is permitted. Please refer to the Pool Rules for additional information. No toys allowed.
Each child (under 7 years old and under 50 inches) must be accompanied in the pool and on the deck, by an adult (18+), within arm’s reach (maximum of one child per adult) for a 1:1 ratio of child to adult.
For all instructional classes and programs – A late pickup fee of $10 will be charged for every 15-minute interval (or portion thereof) for students that are picked up late. The clock at the facility is used to determine the time.
The pool may close without notice in the event of lightning, unhealthy air quality, mechanical issues with the pool or staffing issues.

Adaptive Swim Lessons for Special Needs
Adaptive lessons are designed for students with special needs. After registering, participants must contact the Aquatics Department to discuss the student’s individual needs. A parent or personal care assistant (PCA) is required to be in the water with the participant. Requests for refunds, credits, or transfers must be made at least one (1) week before the class begins.

Dive into fun while mastering all four competitive strokesfreestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly! Swimmers receive hands-on coaching focused on proper technique, starts, and turns. Through interval training, participants build strength, endurance, and confidence. While not a formal team, swimmers are encouraged to support one another, set goals, and celebrate progress together.
Prerequisite: Participants must be able to swim 100 yards of continuous front crawl, 50 yards of backstroke, and 50 yards of breaststroke with proper form. We recommend attending a summer swim assessment on Sunday, May 3 from 1:152:00pm, prior to registration to ensure your child meets the skill requirements for this class.

Not sure which swim level is right for your child? We’ve got you covered!
Join us for a Swim Level Assessment, where our aquatic staff will evaluate your child’s skills and recommend the appropriate class level before registration.
Assessments are quick (about 5 minutes) and take place at the back gate of the pool. The final assessment begins at 1:45 PM. Please bring a towel, and a swim cap and goggles if desired.
If you’re unable to attend, please register based on the level descriptions provided. Participants enrolled in the incorrect level will be removed from class and are not eligible for refunds, credits, or transfers.
Please note: Participation in a swim assessment does not guarantee enrollment in swim lessons.
Make a splash this season with our Youth Swim Lessons for ages 4–17! Our comprehensive learn-to-swim program is designed for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced swimmers. Participants must register based on both age and ability level to ensure the best experience.

This class helps children become comfortable in the water as they develop a readiness to swim. Parents and instructors work together to help children adjust to the water, learn skills and have fun. PALS Social Club (People Actively Learning and Sharing)
This is a Social Club for teens and adults with special needs. Members receive a monthly newsletter that includes a listing of the activities offered. The PALS annual membership fee is $20 residents/$25 non-residents and covers January-December. The PALS fee includes the Adaptive Sports Programs.
Adaptive Sports
This inclusive sports program is designed for individuals with special needs and their peers. Adaptive sports offerings include basketball, bocce, lap swim, pickleball, soccer, softball, and tennis. The annual fee of $20 covers the PALS membership and must be paid before participating.
Special Olympics
This is a competitive sports and training program for individuals with special needs. Sports are offered on a seasonal basis. Torrance Adaptive Registration, Special Olympics registration, and medical releases are required prior to participation. Sports offered include basketball, swim, soccer, softball, and golf. Times and locations will vary according to assignment. Participants are responsible for their own transportation.
The City of Torrance Community Services Department, Recreation Division, will again be offering its Leadership Training Program for students entering grades 10, 11, and 12. The program is designed to provide the participants with job training opportunities while working on various programs in the Recreation Division. The job opportunities may consist of working with children in a park or Day Camp setting, Office Work, Youth Sports working with children, seniors at a Senior Citizen facility, or at the Nature Center, learning about nature and environmental issues.
Fees include training, training materials, T-shirts, and a badge. Only applicants available to participate for most of the summer will be accepted into the program.
This is an excellent opportunity to serve the community and receive on-the-job training experience. The skills learned would be: how to effectively work with people, and see what preparation is needed for a job in a Recreational setting. In addition, this valuable training will provide you with the skills to apply for a part-time position within the Recreation Division.
Pre-registration is required and only a limited number of participants will be accepted into this program. Applications for Torrance Residents will be accepted from May 19-June 1 and for non-residents from May 26-June 1. Do not send payment with your application.
All applicants and parents MUST attend a MANDATORY meeting on Monday, June 1 at THE ATTIC from 5:006:00pm. Participants will be notified of their acceptance into the program at that time and will make payment to the Registration Office by Friday, June 5. NO refunds, credits, or transfers will be issued for this program.

This course is designed for middle school youth interested in learning the fundamentals of safe and responsible babysitting for children ages 3 and up. Participants will gain valuable skills including basic first aid, indoor and outdoor safety, general childcare techniques, and fun recreation activities to keep children engaged.
Each participant will receive a notebook with class materials, a babysitting tote bag, emergency contact sheets, business cards, and a Certificate of Completion. By the end of the course, participants will feel confident and prepared to care for children—giving parents peace of mind. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes and bring a sack lunch and drink each day.

The Torrance Fire Department has been providing disaster preparedness training to community members since the early 1990s. More than a thousand residents have completed the 24-hour, three-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy.
CERT is a FEMA-designated program that teaches participants how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from large-scale emergencies. These skills are especially critical when city resources are stretched and immediate assistance may be delayed.
Participants must attend all sessions to receive a backpack filled with emergency supplies, generously provided by the Torrance Refining Company. Ages: 18+

A visit to the Madrona Marsh Preserve is truly a unique experience. The Marsh is thought to be the last remaining vernal marsh in Los Angeles County. All dogs in the City of Torrance are required to have an active license tag and up-to-date rabies vaccination. Please note, there are no exceptions and no special licenses for service animals. Pet owners have the responsibility to license their pets with the City of Torrance through DocuPet, the official pet licensing services provider.

• Mail: Download, print, and complete the Application Form found on the City’s Website under “+How to Purchase a Pet License” . Send the form, check payable to DocuPet Corp., and any documents required (a copy of your pet’s vaccination certificate and/or neuter certificate) via regular mail to:
