ԳՈՐԾՔ ԱՌԱՔԵԼՈՑ ԳԻՐՔԷՆ 2.1-21 Երբ Պենտեկոստէի տօնը հասաւ, բոլորն ալ միաբան՝ մէկ տեղ էին: Յանկարծ շառաչ մը եղաւ երկինքէն՝ սաստկաշունչ հովի մը ձայնին պէս, ու լեցուց ամբողջ տունը՝ ուր նստած էին: Եւ բաժնուած լեզուներ երեւցան իրենց՝ որպէս թէ կրակէ, ու հանգչեցան անոնցմէ իւրաքանչիւրին վրայ: Բոլորն ալ լեցուեցան Սուրբ Հոգիով եւ սկսան խօսիլ ուրիշ լեզուներով, ինչպէս Հոգին իրենց խօսիլ կու տար: Երուսաղէմ բնակող Հրեաներ կային, բարեպաշտ մարդիկ՝ երկինքի տակ եղած ամէն ազգէ: Երբ այս ձայնը եղաւ, բազմութիւնը համախմբուեցաւ ու շփոթեցաւ, որովհետեւ կը լսէին թէ անոնք կը խօսէին իրենցմէ իւրաքանչիւրին սեփական բարբառով: Բոլորն ալ զմայլած էին եւ կը զարմանային՝ իրարու ըսելով. «Ահա՛ ասոնք բոլորն ալ՝ որ կը խօսին, միթէ Գալիլեացի չե՞ն: Ուրեմն ի՞նչպէս կը լսենք՝ մեր իւրաքանչիւրին սեփական բարբառով, այն երկրին՝ որուն մէջ ծնած ենք. Պարթեւներ, Մարեր ու Եղամացիներ, եւ անոնք որ կը բնակին Միջագետքի, Հրէաստանի, Կապադովկիայի, Պոնտոսի, Ասիայի, Փռիւգիայի, Պամփիւլիայի ու Եգիպտոսի մէջ, եւ Կիւրենէի մօտ՝ Լիպիայի կողմերը, նաեւ Հռոմէն գաղթած Հրեաներ ու նորահաւատներ, Կրետացիներ եւ Արաբներ, կը լսենք թէ անոնք կը խօսին Աստուծոյ մեծամեծ գործերուն մասին՝ մե՛ր լեզուներով»: Բոլորն ալ զմայլած էին, ու տարակուսած՝ կ՚ըսէին իրարու. «Ի՞նչ կրնայ ըլլալ ասիկա»: Ոմանք ալ ծաղրելով կ՚ըսէին. «Անոնք լի են անոյշ գինիով»: Բայց Պետրոս կանգնեցաւ տասնմէկին հետ, բարձրացուց ձայնը եւ ըսաւ անոնց. «Ո՛վ Հրէաստանցիներ, ու դուք բոլորդ՝ որ կը բնակիք Երուսաղէմ, սա՛ գիտցէ՛ք եւ մտի՛կ ըրէք իմ խօսքերս. որովհետեւ ասոնք ո՛չ թէ արբեցած են՝ ինչպէս դուք կ՚են3

թադրէք, քանի դեռ օրուան երրորդ ժամն՝՝ է, հապա ասիկա ա՛յն է՝ որ ըսուեցաւ Յովէլ մարգարէին միջոցով. “Վերջին օրերը,- կ՚ըսէ Աստուած,- իմ Հոգիէս պիտի թափեմ ամէն մարմինի վրայ, եւ ձեր որդիներն ու աղջիկները պիտի մարգարէանան, ձեր երիտասարդները տեսիլքներ պիտի տեսնեն, ու ձեր ծերերը երազներ պիտի տեսնեն: Իմ ծառաներուս եւ աղախիններուս վրայ ալ այդ օրերը իմ Հոգիէս պիտի թափեմ, ու պիտի մարգարէանան: Վերը՝ երկինքը՝ սքանչելիքներ ցոյց պիտի տամ, եւ վարը՝ երկիրը՝ նշաններ, արիւն, կրակ ու ծուխի մառախուղ. արեւը պիտի փոխուի խաւարի, եւ լուսինը՝ արիւնի, դեռ Տէրոջ մեծ ու երեւելի օրը չեկած: Եւ ո՛վ որ կանչէ Տէրոջ անունը՝ պիտի փրկուի”: ՅՈՎՀԱՆՆՈՒ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆԷՆ 14.25-31 Այս բաները խօսեցայ ձեզի, քանի դեռ կը մնամ ձեր քով: Բայց Մխիթարիչը՝ Սուրբ Հոգին, որ Հայրը պիտի ղրկէ իմ անունովս, անիկա՛ պիտի սորվեցնէ ձեզի ամէնը, եւ ինչ որ ըսի ձեզի՝ պիտի յիշեցնէ ձեզի: Խաղաղութիւն կը թողում ձեզի, ի՛մ խաղաղութիւնս կու տամ ձեզի. ես չեմ տար ձեզի ա՛յնպէս՝ ինչպէս աշխարհը կու տայ: Ձեր սիրտը թող չվրդովի ու չերկընչի: Լսեցիք թէ ըսի ձեզի. “Ես կ՚երթամ, բայց դարձեալ պիտի գամ ձեզի”: Եթէ սիրէիք զիս, պիտի ուրախանայիք՝ որ ես կ՚երթամ Հօրը քով, որովհետեւ իմ Հայրս ինձմէ մեծ է: Եւ այժմէն՝ դեռ չեղած՝ ըսի ձեզի, որպէսզի երբ ըլլայ՝ հաւատաք: Ա՛լ շատ պիտի չխօսիմ ձեզի հետ, որովհետեւ այս աշխարհի իշխանը կու գայ. բայց ո՛չ մէկ հեղինակութիւն ունի իմ վրաս: Սակայն աշխարհը թող գիտնայ թէ ես կը սիրեմ Հայրը, եւ կ՚ընեմ ա՛յնպէս՝ ինչպէս Հայրը պատուիրեց ինծի: Ոտքի՛ ելէք, երթա՛նք ասկէ»: 4

ACTS 2.1-21 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues a as the Spirit enabled them.

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, b Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.

These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

Even on my servants, both men and women, 5

I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.

The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

JOHN 14.25-31 “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

“You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’

If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

“Come now; let us leave. Բայց Սուրբ Հոգիին ձեր վրայ եկած ատենը՝ զօրութիւն պիտի ստանաք, եւ ինծի համար վկաներ պիտի ըլլաք Երուսաղէմի մէջ, ամբողջ Հրէաստանի ու Սամարիայի մէջ, եւ մինչեւ երկրի ծայրերը»: (Գործք 1:8) “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

ՀՈԳԵԳԱԼՈՒՍՏ Այս Կիրակի Մայիս 23-ին Հայ Առաքելական Ս. եկեղեցին կը նշէ Հոգեգալստեան տօնը: Հոգեգալուստը հայ Եկեղեցւոյ կարեւոր տօներէն է եւ կը խորհրդանշէ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի համբարձումէն յետոյ, Ս. Երրորդութեան Երրորդ անձի`Ս. Հոգւոյ էջքն աշակերտ-

ներուն վրայ: Համբարձման օրը Յիսուս հրամայեց աշակերտներուն Երուսաղէմի մէջ սպասել մինչեւ Ս. Հոգին ընդունին (Ղուկաս ԻԴ.

49): Այդ խոստումը կատարուեցաւ Ս. Զատիկի յիսուն օրերու լրանալէն ետք, երբ Ս. Հոգին կրակէ լեզուներու տեսքով իջաւ առաքեալներու վրայ եւ անոնք լեցուեցան շնորհքներով եւ այլ լեզուներով խօսելու կարողութեամբ: Յիսուսի Յարութենէն ճիշդ յիսուն օր ետք, երբ տեղի կ՛ունենար Հրաշալի Հոգեգալուստը, հրեաները կը տօնէին Պէնտէկոստէն, որը կը յիշատակէ Սինայ Լերան վրայ՝ Աստուծմէ Մովսէս Մարգարէին տրուած պատուիրական օրէնքները ստանալու առիթը: Այս տօնն 7

ալ Զատկին հետ 35 օրուան շարժականութիւն ունի եւ Մայիս 10-էն Յունիս 13 կրնայ հանդիպիլ: Հոգեգալստեան տօնով կ'աւարտի նաեւ Ս. Յարութեան տօնախմբական շրջանը՝ Յինունքը:

FEAST OF PENTECOST This Sunday May 23, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the fiftieth day following the Feast of the Glorious Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The descent of the Holy Spirit happened on the Jewish feast of Pentecost, that commemorates the receiving of the Law from God by Moses on Mount Sinai. The event is described in the Acts of the Apostles: “When the day of the Pentecost came, all the believers were gathered together in one place. Suddenly there was a noise from the sky, which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak. (Acts 2:1-The feast of Pentecost has a 35 days’ movability and meets for May 10 - June 13. With this feast the 50-day period of Hinounk is concluded.

ԵՂԻԱԿԱՆ ՊԱՀՔ Հոգեգալստեան Կիրակիի յաջորդ օրը կը սկսի Եղիական Պահքը կամ ամառնամուտի պահքը: Ինչպէս բոլոր Եղանակային պահքերը, այս պահքը եւս կը տեւէ 5 օր՝ Երկուշաբթիէն մինչեւ Ուրբաթ, եւ կը կոչուի Եղիական, քանզի ան կը նախորդէ Եղիա մարգարէի յիշատակութեան տօնը: Հայ եկեղեցւոյ սահմանած Եղանակային պահքերն են. Եղիական կամ ամառնամուտի պահքը, Վարագա Ս. Խաչի կամ աշնանամոււտի պահքը, Սուրբ Յակոբի կամ ձմեռնամուտի պահքը եւ Մեծ Պահքի 2-րդ շաբթուայ կամ գարնանամուտի պահքը։ Թէեւ Ս. Ներսէս Շնորհալին կարգադրեց Հոգեգալստեան տօնին յաջորդող ամբողջ շաբաթը՝ ի պատիւ Հոգւոյն Սրբոյ տօնակատարել, բայց կերակուրներու պահքը չվերցուց:

EVE OF THE FAST OF ELIJAH The Monday, following the feast of Pentecost, is the first day of a weeklong fasting called the Fast of Elijah. which is one of four seasonal fasting periods of Armenian church. It is called the fast of Elijah, because it ends before the feast of Commemoration of Prophet Elijah the next Sunday. The seasonal fasts precede the beginning of each of four seasons and are as followed: Fast of Elijah before Summer, Fast of the Cross of Varak before Fall, Fast of St. James of Nisibis before Winter and the Fast of the Second week of Great Lent before Spring.

Even though St. Nerses Shnorhali prolonged the Pentecost celebrations from 1 day to a week, but the fasting remained.
