ՊՕՂՈՍ ԱՌԱՔԵԱԼԻ ԿՈՂՄԷ ԵՓԵՍԱՑԻՆԵՐՈՒՆ ՈՒՂՂԱԾ ՆԱՄԱԿԷՆ 4.17-5.14 Ուրեմն սա՛ կը յայտարարեմ ու Տէրոջմով կը վկայեմ, որ դուք այլեւս չընթանաք այնպէս՝ ինչպէս ուրիշ հեթանոսները կ՚ընթանան, իրենց միտքին ունայնութեան մէջ: Անոնց միտքը խաւարած է, եւ իրենք ուծացած են Աստուծոյ կեանքէն՝ իրենց մէջ եղած անգիտութեան եւ իրենց սիրտին կուրութեան պատճառով: Անզգայ դարձած՝ անձնատուր եղան ցոփութեան, որպէսզի ամէն տեսակ անմաքրութիւն գործեն ագահութեամբ: Բայց դուք ա՛յսպէս չսորվեցաք Քրիստոսը, եթէ իսկապէս լսեցիք զինք եւ սորվեցաք իրմէ՝ Յիսուսի մէջ եղող ճշմարտութեան համաձայն՝ որպէսզի թօթափէք ձեր նախկին վարքին վերաբերող հին մարդը,- որ ապականած է խաբեբայ ցանկութիւններով,- նորոգուիք ձեր միտքին հոգիով, ու հագնիք նո՛ր մարդը, որ ստեղծուած է արդարութեամբ եւ ճշմարիտ սրբութեամբ՝ Աստուծոյ պատկերին համաձայն: Ուստի՝ թօթափելով ստելը՝ ճշմարտութի՛ւնը խօսեցէք իրարու հետ՝՝, որովհետեւ մենք իրարու անդամներ ենք: Բարկացէ՛ք, բայց մի՛ մեղանչէք. արեւը թող մայր չմտնէ ձեր բարկացած վիճակին վրայ, ու տեղ մի՛ տաք Չարախօսին: Ա՛ն որ կը գողնար՝ ա՛լ թող չգողնայ. այլ մանաւանդ թող աշխատի՝ իր ձեռքերով գործելով ինչ որ բարի է, որպէսզի բան մը ունենայ տալու կարօտեալին: Ո՛չ մէկ վատ խօսք թող ելլէ ձեր բերանէն, հապա՝ ինչ որ բարի է, շինութեան կարիքին համեմատ, որպէսզի շնորհք տայ լսողներուն: Եւ մի՛ տրտմեցնէք Աստուծոյ Սուրբ Հոգին, որով դուք կնքուեցաք ազատագրութեան օրուան համար: Ամէն տեսակ դառնութիւն, զայրոյթ, բարկութիւն, գոչիւն ու հայհոյութիւն թող վերցուին ձեզմէ՝ ամէն տեսակ 3

չարամտութեան հետ: Եւ քա՛ղցր եղէք իրարու հանդէպ, գթած, ներելով իրարու, ինչպէս Աստուած Քրիստոսով ներեց ձեզի: Ուրեմն նմանեցէ՛ք Աստուծոյ՝ սիրելի զաւակներու պէս, եւ ընթացէ՛ք սիրոյ մէջ, ինչպէս Քրիստոս ալ մեզ սիրեց ու մեզի համար ընծայեց ինքզինք Աստուծոյ՝ որպէս պատարագ ու զոհ, անուշաբոյր հոտ ըլլալով: Բայց պոռնկութեան եւ ամէն տեսակ անմաքրութեան կամ ագահութեան անունն իսկ թող չյիշուի ձեր մէջ, (ինչպէս կը պատշաճի սուրբերուն,) ո՛չ ալ լրբութեան, յիմար խօսակցութեան կամ խեղկատակութեան, որոնք չեն պատշաճիր. այլ փոխարէնը շնորհակալութի՛ւն յայտնեցէք: Քանի որ գիտէք՝՝ թէ ո՛չ մէկ պոռնկող, կամ անմաքուր, կամ ագահ, որ կռապաշտ է, ունի որեւէ ժառանգութիւն Քրիստոսի եւ Աստուծոյ թագաւորութեան մէջ: Ո՛չ մէկը թող խաբէ ձեզ ունայն խօսքերով, որովհետեւ այս բաներուն պատճառով Աստուծոյ բարկութիւնը կու գայ անհնազանդութեան որդիներուն վրայ: Ուրեմն բաժնեկից մի՛ ըլլաք անոնց, որովհետեւ ժամանակին դուք խաւար էիք, բայց հիմա լոյս էք Տէրոջմով. ուստի ընթացէ՛ք լոյսի զաւակներու պէս, քանի որ Հոգիին պտուղը ամէն տեսակ բարութեամբ, արդարութեամբ ու ճշմարտութեամբ է: Քննեցէ՛ք թէ ի՛նչ է Տէրոջ հաճելին, եւ ընկերակից մի՛ ըլլաք խաւարին անպտուղ գործերուն, այլ փոխարէնը կշտամբեցէ՛ք զանոնք: Որովհետեւ անոնց ըրած գաղտնի բաներուն մասին խօսիլն իսկ ամօթ է. բայց ամէն բան որ կշտամբուած է՝ կը յայտնաբերուի լոյսին միջոցով, որովհետեւ լոյսն է որ կը յայտնաբերէ ամէն ինչ: Ուստի կ՚ըսէ. «Արթնցի՛ր, դուն որ կը քնանաս, ու կանգնէ՛ մեռելներէն, եւ Քրիստոս պիտի փայլի քու վրադ»: ՂՈՒԿԱՍԻ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆԷՆ 16.1-31 Իր աշակերտներուն ալ ըսաւ. «Հարուստ մարդ մը կար՝ որ տնտես մը ունէր. ասիկա ամբաստանուեցաւ անոր առջեւ՝ որ4

պէս թէ կը փճացնէ անոր ինչքը: Ուստի կանչեց զայն եւ ըսաւ անոր. “Այս ի՞նչ է՝ որ քու մասիդ կը լսեմ. տնտեսութեանդ հաշի՛ւը տուր, որովհետեւ ա՛լ չես կրնար տնտես ըլլալ”: Տնտեսը ըսաւ ինքնիրեն. “Ի՞նչ ընեմ, որովհետեւ տէրս տնտեսութիւնը կ՚առնէ ինձմէ. չեմ կրնար հողագործ ըլլալ՝՝, կ՚ամչնամ մուրալ: Գիտե՛մ ինչ պիտի ընեմ, որպէսզի երբ հեռացուիմ իմ տնտեսութենէս՝ ընդունին զիս իրենց տունը: Եւ իրեն կանչելով իր տիրոջ պարտապաններէն իւրաքանչիւրը, ըսաւ առաջինին. “Դուն ո՞րչափ կը պարտիս իմ տիրոջս”: Ան ալ ըսաւ. “Հարիւր մար ձէթ”: Ըսաւ անոր. “Ա՛ռ մուրհակդ, ու շուտո՛վ նստէ՝ «յիսո՛ւն» գրէ”: Յետոյ ըսաւ միւսին. “Դո՛ւն ո՞րչափ կը պարտիս”: Ան ալ ըսաւ. “Հարիւր քոռ ցորեն”: Ըսաւ անոր. “Ա՛ռ մուրհակդ եւ «ութսո՛ւն» գրէ”: Տէրը գովեց անիրաւ տնտեսը՝ որ ուշիմութեամբ վարուեցաւ. որովհետեւ այս աշխարհի որդիները աւելի՛ ուշիմ են իրենց սերունդին մէջ՝ քան լոյսի որդիները: Ես ալ կ՚ըսեմ ձեզի. “Բարեկամնե՛ր ըրէք ձեզի անիրաւ մամոնայէն, որպէսզի երբ ան պակսի՝՝, ընդունին ձեզ յաւիտենական բնակարաններու մէջ”: Ա՛ն որ ամենափոքր բանին մէջ հաւատարիմ է՝ շատին մէջ ալ հաւատարիմ կ՚ըլլայ, եւ ա՛ն որ ամենափոքրին մէջ անիրաւ է՝ շատին մէջ ալ անիրաւ կ՚ըլլայ: Ուրեմն եթէ անիրաւ մամոնային մէջ հաւատարիմ չըլլաք, ճշմարիտ հարստութիւնը ո՞վ պիտի վստահի ձեզի: Եթէ ուրիշին բանին մէջ հաւատարիմ չըլլաք, ձե՛րը ո՞վ պիտի տայ ձեզի: Ո՛չ մէկ ծառայ կրնայ ծառայել երկու տիրոջ. որովհետեւ կա՛մ մէկը պիտի ատէ եւ միւսը սիրէ, կա՛մ մէկուն պիտի յարի՝՝ ու միւսը արհամարհէ: Չէք կրնար ծառայել Աստուծոյ եւ մամոնային»: Փարիսեցիներն ալ՝ որոնք արծաթասէր էին, այս բոլոր բաները լսելով՝ կը քամահրէին զայն: Եւ ըսաւ անոնց. «Դո՛ւք էք որ մարդոց առջեւ կ՚արդարացնէք դուք ձեզ, բայց Աստուած գիտէ՛ ձեր սիրտերը. որովհետեւ մարդոց մէջ բարձր գնահատուածը՝ գարշելի է Աստուծոյ առջեւ: 5

Օրէնքն ու Մարգարէները մինչեւ Յովհաննէս էին. այդ ատենէն ետք Աստուծոյ թագաւորութի՛ւնը կ՚աւետուի, եւ ամէն մէկը կ՚արտորայ մտնել անոր մէջ: Աւելի դիւրին է՝ որ երկինքն ու երկիրը անցնին, քան Օրէնքէն մէ՛կ նշանագիր իյնայ: Ո՛վ որ կ՚արձակէ իր կինը եւ կ՚ամուսնանայ ուրիշի մը հետ՝ շնութիւն կ՚ընէ, եւ ո՛վ որ կ՚ամուսնանայ իր ամուսինէն արձակուած կնոջ մը հետ՝ շնութիւն կ՚ընէ»: «Հարուստ մարդ մը կար՝ որ ծիրանի ու բեհեզ կը հագնէր, եւ ամէն օր փառահեղ խրախճանք կը սարքէր՝՝: Ղազարոս անունով աղքատ մըն ալ կար՝ պալարներով ծածկուած, որ պառկած էր անոր դրան քով, ու կը ցանկար կշտանալ հարուստին սեղանէն ինկած փշրանքներէն. նաեւ շուներն ալ կու գային եւ կը լզէին անոր պալարները: Այդ աղքատը մեռաւ, ու հրեշտակները Աբրահամի գոգը տարին զայն: Հարուստն ալ մեռաւ եւ թաղուեցաւ: Մինչ դժոխքը՝ տանջանքի մէջ էր, իր աչքերը բարձրացնելով՝ հեռուէն տեսաւ Աբրահամը, ու Ղազարոսը՝ անոր գոգը հանգիստ նստած: Ուստի գոչեց. “Հա՛յր Աբրահամ, ողորմէ՜ ինծի ու ղրկէ՛ Ղազարոսը, որպէսզի ջուրի մէջ թաթխէ իր մատին ծայրը եւ զովացնէ լեզուս, որովհետեւ կը տանջուիմ այս բոցին մէջ”: Աբրահամ ըսաւ. “Որդեա՛կ, յիշէ՛ թէ դուն կեանքիդ ընթացքին ստացար բարիքներդ, նմանապէս Ղազարոս՝ չարիքներ. հիմա ան (հոս) կը մխիթարուի, ու դուն կը տանջուիս: Այս բոլորէն զատ՝ մեր եւ ձեր մէջտեղ հաստատուած մեծ անդունդ մը կայ, որպէսզի ասկէ ձեզի անցնիլ ուզողները չկարենան, ո՛չ ալ ատկէ մեզի գալ ուզողները՝ անցնին”: Ան ալ ըսաւ. “Ուրեմն կը խնդրեմ քեզմէ, հա՛յր, որ ղրկես զայն հօրս տունը, քանի որ հինգ եղբայր ունիմ. որպէսզի վկայէ անոնց, որ անոնք ալ չգան այս տանջանքի տեղը”: Աբրահամ ըսաւ անոր. “Անոնք ունին Մովսէսն ու մարգարէները, թող անո՛նց մտիկ ընեն”: Ան ալ ըսաւ. “Ո՛չ, հա՛յր Աբրահամ. հապա եթէ մեռելներէ՛ն մէկը երթայ անոնց՝ պիտի ապաշխարեն”: Իսկ ան ըսաւ անոր. “Եթէ 6

մտիկ չեն ըներ Մովսէսի եւ մարգարէներուն, պիտի չհամոզւին՝ նոյնիսկ եթէ մէկը մեռելներէն յարութիւն առնէ”»: EPHESIANS 4.17-5.14 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and 7

compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. a Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.

Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

LUKE 16.1-31 Jesus told his disciples: “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’

“The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed 8

to beg— I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’

“So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ “ ‘Nine hundred gallons a of olive oil,’ he replied.

“The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.’

“Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do you owe?’ “‘A thousand bushels of wheat,’ he replied.

“He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it eight hundred.’

“The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are shrewder in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.

You cannot serve both God and money.”

The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.

“The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it. It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law. 9

“Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

“Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

THE SUNDAY OF STEWARD This Sunday is the forth Sunday of Great Lent, the Sunday of Stewart (Dendesi Giragi). Today the Parable of Dishonest Manager' is read, which is found only in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 16:1-9). This parable is about a rich man and his Steward.

“There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about 11

you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’ “The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg—I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’ “So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ “‘Nine hundred gallons of olive oil,’ he replied.

Jesus used this parable not to condone the behavior of Steward, but rather to illustrate qualities, that have a necessary place in the life of everyone: our accountability before God. Since we are the stewards of the world, we are accountable to our Lord for the use of talents we were given to do good. Also we are accountable for the care of all thing, that were entrusted to us by our heavenly Father.

«Երկրի վրայ գանձեր մի՛ դիզէք ձեզի, ուր ցեցը եւ ժանգը կ՚ապականեն, ուր գողերը պատ կը ծակեն ու կը գողնան: Հապա երկի՛նքը գանձեր դիզեցէք ձեզի, ուր ո՛չ ցեցը եւ ո՛չ ժանգը կ՚ապականեն, ու ո՛չ գողերը պատ կը ծակեն եւ կը գողնան: Որովհետեւ ձեր գանձը ո՛ւր որ է, ձեր սիրտն ալ հո՛ն պիտի ըլլայ»:

ՍԵԲԱՍՏԻՈՅ ՔԱՌԱՍՈՒՆ ՄԱՆԿՈՒՆՔ Այս տարի Մարտ 13-ին Հայց. Առաքելական եկեղեցին կը նշէ Սեբաստիոյ 40 Մանկանց տօնը: Այս տօնը յիշատակումն է Դ. դարուն Սեբաստիոյ մէջ նահատակուած Քառասուն Մանկունք սրբացեալ զօրականներուն, նոյնպէս տօնն է այդ անունը կրող եկեղեցիներուն: 4-րդ դարու սկիզբը նահատակուած Քրիստոսի 40 վկաները Փոքր Հայքի տարբեր քաղաքներէն էին եւ զինուորական ծառայութեան մէջ մտած էին Սեբաստիոյ կայսերական գունդին: Լիկիանոս կայսեր հրամանով Կեսարիոյ դուքս Լիւսիանոսը կը հարցաքննէ զինուորները անոնց մէջի քրիստոնեաները յայտնաբերելու համար: Անոնցմէ 40-ը, կը յայտարարեն իրենց քրիստոնէական հաւատքը, որու համար կը բանտարկուին։ Անոնք հաստատուն կը մնան իրենց հաւատքի մէջ եւ Լիւսիանոս որպէս պատիժ անոնց մերկ վիճակի մէջ, գիշեր ատեն, ձմրան ցուրտին սառուցեալ լիճի մէջ կը նետէ: Լիւսիաս լիճի ափին տաք բաղնիք մը պատրաստել կու տայ, որպէսզի երիտասարդները գայթակղե ցնէ , որ անոնք ներս մտնելով փրկուին: Բայց 40-էն մէկը միայն չի՛ դիմանար սառած ջուրին մէջ, դուրս գալով կը մտնէ տաք բաղնիքը ու կը կնքէ իր մահկանացուն 13

ու կը զրկուի թէ՛ երկրային և թէ՛ երկնային կեանքէն: Ուշ գիշերին, երկնային լոյս մը կը ճառագայթէ լիճին վերեւ եւ լուսեղէն թագեր կ’իջնեն նահատակ սուրբերու գլուխներուն: Պահապան զինուորներէն մէկը, տեսնելով այդ, կը լեցուի Քրիստոսի հաւատքով և նետուելով լիճը, պսակակից կը դառնայ 39 զինուորներուն: Աստուածային հրաշքով վկաները դիմացան ձմեռնային ցուրտին, բայց առաւօտեան նահատակուեցան Լիւսիանոսի զինուորներու ձեռքով։ Անոնց նշխարները կ’ամփոփուին Սեբաստիոյ մէջ , ուր յետագային կը կառուցուի «Քառասուն մանկունք» 40 գմբեթանի տաճարը, որը կ’աւերուի Լէնկթիմուրի արշաւանքներուն ընթացքին: 40 զինուորներու պատմութիւնը մեզի կը սորվեցնէ, որ ամէն բանէ անկախ, միշտ հաւատարիմ մնանք Քրիստոսի հաւատքին եւ մեր հաւատքով յաղթահարենք աշխարհի գայթակղութիւնները: THE FORTY HOLY MARTYRS OF SEBASTIA On March 13 the Armenian church commemorates the Forty Holy Martyrs of Sebastia. They were martyred approximately in 320 AD. They were Christians from various towns and cities of Lesser Armenia who served as soldiers in the royal regiment of Sebastia.

Upon the decree of Roman Emperor Likianos, Lucias, Duke of Caesarea, organized interrogations to identify Christian soldiers among the regiment. Forty of the soldiers remained steadfast in their faith, defying the judges by their brave answers, and therefore were imprisoned. One cold winter night the soldiers were thrown into a lake near Sebastia, to freeze to death. One of the 40 soldiers, unable to endure the torments, came out of the water to find salvation in a bathhouse built on the bank.

The lone soldier died, deprived of both earthly and heavenly life. At the dawn, halos were seen around the heads of the remaining soldiers.

Witnessing this miracle, one of the guards accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and threw himself into the lake to be martyred along with the remaining 39 soldiers. In the morning, it became apparent that through a divine miracle, the 40 soldiers have been saved from freezing. This infuriated their captors and subsequently executed all them.The martyrs' remains are buried in Sebastia, where subsequently a 40-domed Cathedral was built. The Cathedral of Sebastia stood for nearly 1,000 years, until the invasion of Tamerlane and the Mongols at the end of the 14th century.
