ՄԱՏԹԷՈՍԻ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆԷՆ 5.17-48 «Մի՛ կարծէք թէ եկայ՝ աւրելու Օրէնքը կամ Մարգարէները: Եկայ ո՛չ թէ աւրելու, հապա՝ գործադրելու: Որովհետեւ ճշմա՛րտապէս կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Մինչեւ որ երկինքն ու երկիրը անցնին, Օրէնքէն յովտ մը կամ նշանագիր մը պիտի չանցնի՝ մինչեւ որ բոլորն ալ կատարուին”: Ուրեմն ո՛վ որ այս ամենափոքր պատուիրաններէն մէկը լուծէ եւ մարդոց ա՛յնպէս սորվեցնէ, անիկա ամենափոքր պիտի կոչուի երկինքի թագաւորութեան մէջ. բայց ո՛վ որ գործադրէ ու սորվեցնէ, անիկա մեծ պիտի կոչուի երկինքի թագաւորութեան մէջ: Որովհետեւ կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Եթէ ձեր արդարութիւնը չգերազանցէ դպիրներու եւ Փարիսեցիներու արդարութիւնը, բնա՛ւ պիտի չմտնէք երկինքի թագաւորութիւնը”»: «Լսեր էք թէ ըսուեցաւ նախնիքներուն. “Մի՛ սպաններ”: Ո՛վ որ ըսպաննէ, արժանի պիտի ըլլայ դատաստանի: Բայց ես կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Ո՛վ որ զուր տեղը բարկանայ իր եղբօր դէմ՝ արժանի պիտի ըլլայ դատաստանի: Ո՛վ որ "ապուշ" ըսէ իր եղբօր՝ արժանի պիտի ըլլայ ատեանի դատապարտութեան: Ո՛վ որ "յիմար" ըսէ իր եղբօր՝ արժանի պիտի ըլլայ գեհենի կրակին”: Ուրեմն եթէ քու ընծադ զոհասեղանին վրայ բերես, ու հոն յիշես թէ եղբայրդ բա՛ն մը ունի քեզի դէմ, հո՛ն ձգէ ընծադ՝ զոհասեղանին առջեւ. նա՛խ գնա՝ հաշտուէ՛ եղբօրդ հետ, եւ ա՛յն ատեն եկուր՝ որ մատուցանես ընծադ: Շուտո՛վ համաձայնէ քու ոսոխիդ հետ, մինչ ճամբան ես անոր հետ, որպէսզի հակառակորդդ չյանձնէ քեզ դատաւորին, ու դատաւորը՝ ոստիկանին, եւ բանտը չնետուիս: Ճշմա՛րտապէս կը յայտարարեմ քեզի. “Բնա՛ւ դուրս պիտի չելլես անկէ, մինչեւ որ վճարես վերջին նաքարակիտը”»: «Լսեր էք թէ ըսուեցաւ. “Շնութիւն մի՛ ըներ”: Բայց ես կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Ո՛վ որ կը նայի կնոջ մը՝ անոր ցանկալու համար, արդէ՛ն անիկա իր սիրտին մէջ շնութիւն ըրած է անոր հետ”: Ուստի եթէ աջ աչքդ կը գայթակղեցնէ քեզ, հանէ՛ զայն ու նետէ՛ քեզմէ. որովհետեւ աւելի օգտակար է քեզի՝ որ անդամներէդ մէկը կորսուի, բայց ամբողջ մարմինդ չնետուի գեհենը: Եթէ աջ ձեռքդ կը գայթակղեցնէ քեզ, կտրէ՛ զայն ու նետէ՛ քեզմէ. որովհետեւ աւելի օգտակար է քեզի՝ որ անդամներէդ մէկը կորսուի, ու ամբողջ մարմինդ չնետուի գեհենը»: 3

«Նաեւ ըսուեցաւ. “Ո՛վ որ արձակէ իր կինը, թող տայ անոր ամուսնալուծումի վկայագիր մը”: Բայց ես կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Ո՛վ որ կ՚արձակէ իր կինը՝ առանց պոռնկութեան պատճառի, ի՛նք շնութիւն ընել կու տայ անոր, եւ ո՛վ որ կ՚ամուսնանայ արձակուածին հետ՝ շնութիւն կ՚ընէ”»: «Լսեր էք դարձեալ թէ ըսուեցաւ նախնիքներուն. “Սուտ երդում մի՛ ըներ, հապա հատուցանէ՛ Տէրոջ ըրած երդումներդ”: Բայց ես կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Երբե՛ք երդում մի՛ ընէք, ո՛չ երկինքի վրայ՝ որ Աստուծոյ գահն է, ո՛չ երկրի վրայ՝ որ անոր ոտքերուն պատուանդանն է, ո՛չ Երուսաղէմի վրայ՝ որ Մեծ Թագաւորին քաղաքն է, ո՛չ ալ գլուխիդ վրայ երդում ըրէ, որովհետեւ չես կրնար մէ՛կ մազ ճերմկցնել կամ սեւցնել: Հապա ձեր խօսքը ըլլայ՝ այո՛ն՝ այո՛, եւ ո՛չը՝ ո՛չ. ասկէ աւելին յառաջ կու գայ Չարէն”»: «Լսեր էք թէ ըսուեցաւ. “Աչքի տեղ՝ աչք, եւ ակռայի տեղ՝ ակռայ”: Բայց ես կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Չարին մի՛ դիմադրեր. հապա ո՛վ որ ապտակէ աջ այտիդ, դարձո՛ւր անոր միւսն ալ: Եթէ մէկը ուզէ դատ վարել քեզի հետ ու բաճկոնդ առնել, թո՛ղ տուր անոր հանդերձդ ալ: Եւ ո՛վ որ ստիպէ քեզ մղոն մը երթալ, գնա՛ անոր հետ երկու մղոն: Տո՛ւր քեզմէ ուզողին, ու երես մի՛ դարձներ անկէ՝ որ կ՚ուզէ փոխ առնել քեզմէ”»: «Լսեր էք թէ ըսուեցաւ. “Սիրէ՛ ընկերդ եւ ատէ՛ թշնամիդ”: Բայց ես կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Սիրեցէ՛ք ձեր թշնամիները, օրհնեցէ՛ք ձեզ անիծողները, բարի՛ք ըրէք անոնց՝ որ կ՚ատեն ձեզ, եւ աղօթեցէ՛ք անոնց համար՝ որ կը պախարակեն ու կը հալածեն ձեզ, որպէսզի ըլլաք ձեր երկնաւոր Հօր որդիները. որովհետեւ իր արեւը կը ծագեցնէ թէ՛ չարերուն եւ թէ բարիներուն վրայ, եւ անձրեւ կը ղրկէ թէ՛ արդարներուն եւ թէ անարդարներուն վրայ: Որովհետեւ եթէ դուք սիրէք ձեզ սիրողները, ի՞նչ վարձատրութիւն կ՚ունենաք. մաքսաւորնե՛րն ալ նոյնը չե՞ն ըներ: Ու եթէ բարեւէք միայն ձեր եղբայրները, ի՞նչ աւելի կ՚ընէք ուրիշներէն. մաքսաւորնե՛րն ալ նոյնը չե՞ն ըներ: Ուրեմն դուք կատարեա՛լ եղէք, ինչպէս ձեր երկնաւոր Հայրը կատարեալ է”»: MATTHEW5.17-48 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, 4

until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, a and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister b c will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ d is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

“Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court.

Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ e But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

“It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

“Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. g “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ h But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor i and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others?

Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Վերջապէս, բոլո՛րդ եղէք համախոհ, կարեկից, եղբայրասէր, գթած ու բարեսիրտ: Չարիքի փոխարէն չարիք մի՛ հատուցանէք, կամ հեգնանքի փոխարէն՝ հեգնանք. այլ ընդհակառակը՝ օրհնեցէ՛ք, գիտնալով թէ ատոր համար կանչուեցաք, որպէսզի օրհնութիւն ժառանգէք:

(1 Պետրոս 3:8-9) Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

ԱՐՏԱՔՍՄԱՆ ԿԻՐԱԿԻ Մեծ Պահքի Բ. Կիրակին, այս տարի Մարտ 1-ին, Արտաքսման Կիրակի է: Այս Կիրակին կը յիշատակէ Ադամի ու Եւայի արտաքսումը դրախտէն: Աստուածաշունչ մատեանի Ծննդոց գիրքը կը նկարագրէ, թէ ինչպէս Ադամ ու Եւան իրենց անհնազանդութեան պատճառով արտաքսուեցան Եդեմական պարտէզէն եւ դատապարտուեցան մահկանացու դժուարին կեանքի: Արտաքսման Կիրակին յիշեցում մըն է, որ մեղքը Աստուծոյ կամքը եւ Անոր օրէնքը անտեսելն ու անոր չհնազանդիլն է, զոր մեզ կը հեռացնէ Աստուծմէ: Ադամի ու Եւայի մեղքի պատճառով, մարդկութիւնը հեռացաւ Աստուծմէ, բայց Յիսուս Աստուածորդին իր վրայ վերցուց ադամական մեղքը եւ մարդկութեան համար դարձաւ ճամբան, վերստին արժանի դառնալու երկնքի Արքայութեանը՝ մկրտութեամբ, զղջումով, ապաշխարութեամբ եւ առաքինի կեանքով:

SUNDAY OF EXPULSION The second Sunday of Great lent is called the Sunday of Expulsion. This year the Sunday of Expulsion falls on March 1. Since Easter is a movable feast, every year the date is determined based on Lunar Clendar.

The name of this Sunday came from the story in the Bible found in the Book of Genesis, referring to the exile of Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden (Genesis 2, 3). The Book of Genesis describes how Adam and Eve disobeyed God and tasted the forbidden fruit. This was God's first commencement to man and the first reference to fasting and abstinence.

For their disobedience, and failure to confess and repent for what they have done, Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden. This Sunday reminds us that the sin is the disobedience of God’s will. All around us, there are constant temptations to put ourselves and our wishes ahead of what God wants. And by doing so we separate ourselves from God. Because of Adam and Eve's original sin, the mankind was strayed away from God. When Jesus Christ died on the Cross, through Him and with baptism, repentance and pious life we were shown the way to return to God's Kingdom.

ՓԱԿ ԽՈՐԱՆ Բուն Բարեկենդանէն սկսեալ եկեղեցիներէն ներս Խորանին վարագոյրը կը փակուի: Ան կը բացուի քանի մը տօնական առիթներով, եթէ կը հանդիպին Մեծի Պահոց շրջանին (Տեառընդառաջ, Աւետումն Աստուածածնի, Ս. Գրիգոր Լուսաւորչին մուտն ի Վիրապն): Մեծ Պահոց շրջանը կ'աւարտի Ղազարոսի Յարութեան Յիշատակին՝ Շաբաթ օրը, եւ Խորանի վարագոյրը կը բացուի մինչեւ Խաւարման Գիշերը: Երեկոյեան, Ուրբաթի գիշերային ժամերգութենէ ետք, Խորանի վարագոյրը դարձեալ կը գոցուի, կը բացուի միայն Յարութեան Ճրագալոյցի ատեն: CLOSED ALTAR CURTAINS During Great Lent, the altar curtain remains closed in the Armenian Church. It symbolizes Adam and Eve’s expulsion from Paradise and emphasizes the spirit of repentance for the 40-day period prior to the Holy Week.

The Curtain reopens on Palm Sunday with a special Turen Patzek (dooropening) service, which symbolizing the entering of the righteous into God’s Kingdom and remains open till Moundy Thursday. After the night service the curtain closes again and reopens on Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of our lord Jesus Christ.

During Lent the Divine Liturgy (Badarak) is celebrated with the Main Altar curtain closed, The Kiss of Peace is not given.

ՊԱՀՈՑ ՇՐՋԱՆԻ ԺԱՄԵՐԳՈՒԹԻՒՆՆԵՐ Հայ եկեղեցին տարբեր դարերուն ունեցած է տարբեր թիւով ժամերգութիւններ: Այժմ անոնք ինն են՝ Գիշերային, Առաւօտեան, Արեւագալի, Ճաշու Երրորդ ժամի, Ճաշու Վեցերորդ ժամի, Ճաշու Իններորդ ժամի, Երեկոյեան, Խաղաղական և Հանգստեան: Այս ժամերգութիւններէն իւրաքանչիւրը կը կատարուի ի դէմս Ամենասուրբ Երրորդութեան Անձերու՝ Հօրը, Որդւոյն եւ Ս. Հոգւոյն: Մեծ Պահքի շրջանին ծոմապահութեան եւ աղօթքին առընթեր կը կատարուին Արեւագալի ժամերգութիւնը եւ Հսկումի արարողութիւնը, որը միացումն է Խաղաղական ու Հանգստեան Ժամերգութիւններու: Արևագալի ժամերգութիւնը Կը կատարուի ի դէմս Սուրբ Հոգւոյ եւ կը խորհրդանշէ Քրիստոսի Յարութիւնը, որ երեւցաւ աշակերտներուն: Արեւագալի ժամերգութեան ճիշտ ժամը արեւածագի պահն է: Արեւագալի ժամերգութիւնը հինէն եղած է Առաւօտեանի մէկ մասը: Եզր Ա. Փառաժնակերտցի (7 դար) կաթողիկոսը զայն զատած է իբրեւ առանձին ժամերգութիւն: Խաղաղական ժամերգութիւնը Կը կատարուի ի դէմս Սուրբ Հոգի Աստուծոյ: Կը կոչուի Խաղաղական, քանզի կը խորհրդանշէ, որ Յիսուս թաղուեցաւ, դժոխք իջաւ՝ հոգիներուն խաղաղութիւն բերելով: Խաղաղական կը կոչուի նաեւ, որպէսզի երեկոյեան ժամին Տէրը խաղաղաութիւն բերէ մեր հոգիներուն եւ գիշերը հանդարտ պահէ մեր միտքն ու հոգին: Խաղաղական ժամերգութիունը կը յաջորդէ Երեկոյեան ժամերգութեանը ու սովորաբար կը կատարուի Մեծ Պահքի շրջանին: Հանգստեան ժամերգութիւնը Օրուայ վերջին ժամերգութիւնն է, որով կ'աւարտի օրը: Այս ժամուն աղօթքը՝ ի դէմս Հայր Աստուծոյ, կը կատարուի գիշերը պառկելէ առաջ, եւ կը կոչուի Հանգստեան (նաեւ Եկեսցէ, որովհետեւ կը սկսի «Եկեսցէ» Սաղմոսով): 9

LENTEN CHURCH SERVICES The Armenian Church has nine daily services: Night Service, Morning Service, Sunrise Service, Third Hour Service, Sixth Hour Service, Ninth Hour Service, Evening Service, Peace Service and Rest Service. Each of the daily services is addressed to one of the persons of the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit.

During Lent the Peace Service, the Rest Service, and the Sunrise Service are performed more often than at other times of the year.

The Sunrise Service Is an early morning service that is unique to the Armenian Church and reminds us that God is the giver of the light of the morning and the light of salvation. It is dedicated to the praising of the Holy Spirit. It is offered at sunrise and is identified with Christ’s Resurrection. Catholicos Ezr I (630-641) separated this service from the morning Service, and in the 12th century it was enriched with hymns of St. Nerses Shnorhali (1173).

Even though during the Lent the Church takes on a mournful demeanor, the Sunrise Service is quite joyous where the main theme is the “light,” that represents our Lord.

Peace Service Is performed in the late evening and contains prayers for peace at the end of the day. It is dedicated to the Holy Spirit and symbolizes Christ’s descent to Hell and liberation of the righteous people from torments. It is offered after sunset. The prayers remind us that God is with us even in the face of trial and temptation.

Rest Service Is dedicated to God the Father. In early times it was the continuation of the Peace service. It is offered before retiring for the day and contains prayers asking Gods continuous protection throughout the night.

During Lent, the Peace & Rest Services are celebrated together.

A SERIES OF LESSONS TO SERVICE AT THE ALTAR The Pastor and the Pastor's Assistant of Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church are happy to announce that soon special sessions will start in order to prepare young volunteers to serve at the altar, will begin on March 12, 2020 and continue until June 11, 2020, every Thursday evening from 7:30 to 8:30.

During these sessions the youth will not only learn the sections that they will be singing during the Liturgy, but will receive Christian education and create Armenian friendships.

Through the service offered by your children, your families also earn heavenly grace and blessings.

Dear parents, it is our wish that you encourage your children by awakening in them the love of serving at the altar of our Lord.

Please note that reading Armenian is not a necessary condition to join these educational sessions.

At the end of the training, Sunday, June 14, 2020, during the Divine Liturgy and by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Canada Bishop Abgar Hovakimian participants will receive acolyte degree.
