The Jubilee Center of Hoboken
5-Year Strategic Plan Executive Summary
Introduction The Jubilee Center of Hoboken is building for the future, expanding our programs and their positive impact on Hoboken’s children; creating a modern, safe facility that is in harmony with our mission and building a financial foundation to sustain us well into the future. In order to make these goals a reality, The Jubilee Center is embarking on a capital campaign to raise $2M over the next 3 years.
Organization Info All Saints Community Service and Development Corporation (ASCSDC) was created by the All Saints Episcopal Parish as a non-sectarian, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1995 to serve low-income families living in Hoboken’s public housing community. ASCSDC’s mission is to uplift children throughout their lives through education, enrichment, and mentoring so that they can dream of and achieve their goals. ASCSDC’s flagship program is The Jubilee Center of Hoboken. Jubilee Center’s yearround programs include academic enrichment and support, sports, fitness, arts, technology, and music to inspire and expand their world view. The Center is one of few locations in Hoboken that offer quality out-of-school programs for children living in the public housing community. Each year, the Center also provides more than 20,000 meals to children mitigating food insecurity among families. ASDSDC also operates two programs in nearby Union City. La Puerta Abierta is a bilingual program that provides afterschool care for children of immigrant families living in Union City. Parents whose first language in not English often find it difficult to access the services they need for their families. The Family Success Center provides a myriad of programs designed to protect and enrich the lives of children and families. Programs include parent education as well as parent-child activities, life skills training, fitness and nutritional programs, and information and referrals for employment, housing and healthcare services. Program services are offered in both Spanish and English.

Current Context ASCSDC serves over 650 families in the impoverished communities in Hudson County, specifically Hoboken and Union City. According to the U.S. Census, the Hudson county poverty rate is nearly 16% -- 60% higher than that of the State. For children in this community, the rate of poverty is more than 22%. In Hoboken, the Jubilee Center is dedicated to providing parents with affordable afterschool care that focuses on academic enrichment, reading, arts and STEM. As many of the families are single parent households, the center stays open until 6:30 pm to enable them to maintain full time employment. Most of the children that attend the Jubilee Center have been returning for many years and have older siblings that attended as well. As a result, there is a high degree of awareness of the program among the families that live closest to the Center. Jubilee advertises its programs on its website, social media channels and in the local community. Jubilee serves over 150 families during the school year and the summer. All 3 of ASCSDC’s programs help to strengthen the community by providing families with a wide array of programs and services that mitigate the challenges they face, and by providing children with safe, supportive and educational programs that shift their trajectory toward academic and life success. In recent years, ASCSDC has experienced frequent leadership changes which resulted in the organization’s hiring of an Interim Executive Director in 2016. This instability resulted in several major funders ending their relationship with the Jubilee Center, which caused some financial deficits that the organization is working diligently to overcome. After a thoughtful process guided by the Board of Directors, and with the assistance of the organization’s interim executive director, Jubilee recently hired its permanent Executive Director, Ms. Veronica Manning. Ms. Manning has more than 13 years’ professional experience including five years in executive and leadership roles at a multi-service nonprofit organization in Newark NJ. Ms. Manning’s experience also includes work with a corporate foundation, bringing to Jubilee unique insight that will greatly advance the organization’s capacity to attract and steward corporate partnerships, as well as repair important relationships in the surrounding community. In addition, The Board of Directors

has recently welcomed three new trustees, which has given new energy to the organization’s fundraising and communication strategies. The Board & Ms. Manning are in the midst of completing a 5-year Strategic Plan that will be published by mid-2019. This document represents a summary of the capital needs for that plan. To plan responsibly for the future, the campaign includes an endowment to support our growth and to ensure quality, sustainable programming.
