Students discuss away game plans, expectations By AMY CUNNINGHAM La Vida Editor
For the fourth away game of the 2014 football season, some Texas Tech fans will travel beyond the Lubbock city limits to Texas Christian’s Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth and watch the two Big 12 teams compete. Jeremy Jones, a senior marketing and management dual major from Justin, said he thinks it will be cool to experience a different atmosphere from what he is used to on game day at Jones AT&T Stadium. “I’m looking forward to being in an environment that’s different from Texas
Tech,” he said. “I’ve never gone to an away game before, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what TCU students do at football games and what they do differently from us.” With his hometown located near the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Jones said going to the game against TCU gives him an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Jonathan Medina, a junior marketing major from Fort Worth, said attending the game will be a convenient trip home for him as well. “I was already planning to go home that weekend,” Medina said. “Having Tech play
TCU there solidified my plans to go home for sure.” Medina will drive to Fort Worth with fellow members of his fraternity, he said. It costs about $72.28 for a round trip drive to TCU from Tech. Medina and his friends planned to purchase tickets sometime Wednesday evening. Jones bought his ticket more than a month in advance, he said. As of Wednesday, more than 1,400 tickets were still available for purchase at Amon G. Carter stadium for Saturday’s game, according to StubHub. Tickets ranged in cost from $59 to $899, according to the website, with the
least expensive tickets available near the south end zone. “I’m going to go about my usual business and support my school at the game as well,” Medina said. “Hopefully I’ll be able to see our school win.” Zachary Coomes, a junior geography major from Denton and member of the Goin’ Band, said the band will not be in attendance at the game. The pep band, which has about 100 people, was originally scheduled to perform at the TCU game, he said. “It was on the schedule at the beginning of the year,” Coomes said, “but we got a new schedule and it wasn’t on
there. I don’t really know why we aren’t. It’s definitely a lower cost trip, but it still didn’t happen.” Although he was looking forward to attending, Coomes said he is thankful to have a weekend off. As a band member, Coomes said he does not have to pay for hotel and other costs most fans endure when traveling to an away game. For those who check in Saturday and leave Sunday, the average hotel cost in Fort Worth is $111 per night, according to Expedia. ROAD TRIP continued on Page 3➤➤
Tech hits the road to face red-hot TCU By JEREMY KRAKOSKY Staff WritEr
At 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Amon G Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, the 3-4 Texas Tech football team will attempt to win its second straight game as it takes on 5-1 No. 10 Texas Christian, the highest ranked team in the Big 12 Conference. Tech is 30-23-3 all time against TCU dating back to the 1926 season. Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Saturday will be the Red Raiders toughest game so far this season and his players

have to be prepared for that. “(We) are going to have to earn it,” he said. “(We) are going to have to beat them physically to make a play because schematically they’re going to have you picked up.” Since entering the Big 12 two seasons ago, the Horned Frogs have been defeated by the Red Raiders both times they have played. In 2012, Tech traveled to Fort Worth and escaped with a triple overtime win behind wide receiver Eric Ward’s three touchdowns. TCU continued on Page 6➤➤
