An organic synthesis experiment produced a small explosion in the Chemistry building Friday evening, resulting in some property damage but no injuries. “The lab was unattended at the time of the explosion,” said Taylor Eighmy, vice president of research, in an official university statement. “There were some damages to the chemical fume
A few cows got loose by the Texas Tech Meat Lab and wandered off campus onto the streets of Lubbock on Friday morning. Kenny Evans, assistant chief of police for the Tech Police Department, said there were about 10 officers trying to secure traffic and get the cows off of the roadway. “I was told they were offloading the cows on campus, and a few of them got loose before they could get them in the building,” Evans said. “There were a couple of vehicles with minimal damages, and one of the cows broke the front glass window on a building on Avenue Q.” Evans said he was not sure of the name of the building with the broken front window. “No one was injured,” Evans said, “but the cow that went through the window had a couple of cuts.” The officers spent the morning trying to corral the cows so they could be taken back, he said. The cows were loaded back onto the trailer and returned safely to campus. Carder Mccoy, a sophomore business major from Richardson, said he

I thought she was gonna kick my ass!” Chase Haddock, a sophomore restaurant, hotel and institutional management major from Charlotte, N.C., was with Mccoy when the cow chased him. “I was just walking to my truck with Carder (Mccoy) and we both heard footsteps,” Haddock said. “We turned around, and there she was. I started laughing until the thing tried to buck us.” Haddock said he saw the cow buck right at Mccoy. “I remember thinking, ‘Only in Lubbock,’” Haddock said.

The Texas Tech Upward Bound program hosted its annual Parent/Student Orientation on Saturday at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.
