In 1967, the flagpole, which previously stood in front of the Industrial and Textile Engineering building, was moved to Memorial Circle.

In 2001, the Student Sen-

ate decreed that students should avoid walking on the circle’s grass as a means of paying respect to Tech veterans. Pfluger Fountain was added to the circle in 2002.

In 2005 the SGA began a scholarship campaign that allowed donors to purchase inscribed bricks for the creation of a sidewalk stretching from the Administration building to the circle.

n 2019, Chris Beard led the men’s basketball team to the National Championship game for the first time in program history. The team advanced to the Elite Eight in 2018.

Beard was named Texas Tech’s 17th head coach on April 15, 2016.

In 2018-2019, Beard was named Associated Press National Coach of the Year, Big 12 Coach of the Year and the

USBWA District VII Coach of the year.

Beard spent 10 years at Tech almost a decade ago, first as an assistant coach under Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight and as an associate head coach under Pat Knight.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in education from Abilene Christian University.

Features include a TV lounge and access to the new Chitwood/Weymouth Learning Center. Limitless laundry

lounges are available for all residents. All rooms are furnished with built-in furniture including chests of drawers, pull-out beds, desks, chairs, closets with overhead storage and a sink. All rooms have individual thermostats.

n 2018, the Texas Tech volleyball team recorded its second straight winning season, with the team’s 17 wins a program best since 2001.

With six conference wins the Red Raiders recorded their best conference record since 2004.

In his third season as head coach, Tony Graystone holds a

36-28 record over the last two seasons and recently signed a three-year contract extension through 2023.

Sophomore Brooke Kanas was just the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team.

he Texas Tech Red Raiders men’s basketball team competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association and as a member of the Big 12. The Red Raiders play their home games at the United Supermarkets Arena.

Chris Beard, the team’s 17th head coach, has led the team

The Red Raiders logged their most historic season in 2018-2019, playing in the National Championship game of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. The team won its first Big 12 Conference regular-season title and earned 31 victories.
