The Committee

The aim of the committee, under section 17 (4) regarding collaboration with China, is to ensure political anchoring of the Chinese collaboration, which has proved to span across several of the existing committees. The committee will ensure strategic progress and operational execution of the collaboration with China. A committee under section 17 (4) is a temporary political committee, which a municipal council can form to attend to special tasks or to function as an advisory committee. Such a committee has not been established before by Danish municipal councils for the collaboration with China.

Nyborg Municipality builds bridges between China and Denmark

Kenneth Muhs – mayor and member of the committee. “Nyborg Municipality sees its role as part of a bridgehead to China where, depending on the wishes and interests of the Chinese, one can mediate contact and networks to potential partners throughout Denmark.

Nyborg Municipality works very closely together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about all the specific projects and agreements with many local companies”.

Examples of results to the benefit of Denmark and China: 1) Agreement on the Chinese purchase of the property, Sølyst, in Nyborg in order to create a Chinese business and culture centre.

2) Agreement on the purchase of a Danish biogas plant.

3) Agreement on collaboration between educational institutions and Chinese students’ study visits to Nyborg.

Nyborg Forsyning og Service (NFS) is Nyborg Municipality’s utility company. A large part of the district heating supply comes from surplus heat from several specialised companies within the waste area, just like biogas is produced.

There are two local breweries in Nyborg Municipality which produce a number of special products which, besides several different types of special beer, also include whisky and soft drinks.

In Nyborg, focus is placed on education with, among other things, an IB international line and many local opportunities for continuing education for adults - at university level as well.

Nyborg Municipality is working towards having a CAMPUS established, which will gather a number of education programmes into a particularly unique teaching environment.

Nyborg Municipality works so that the municipality’s extensive experience in the care of the elderly can be used for the building up of collaborations with interested parties in China within health care and elderly care.

Nyborg Municipality collaborates with many higher education programmes on study assignments and tries to promote the dialogue between business and education at all levels.

Choose an active summer holiday at Nyborg Upper Secondary School when we open the doors to an instructive Summer School. Nyborg is a pleasant fortress town dating to the Middle Ages built on the orders of royalty and shrouded in plenty of history.

The network of streets is the same as they were back then, which creates a cosy atmosphere in the town centre. Here you will find 19th century Renaissance buildings, bumpy cobblestones, a moat and many shops.

The shops offer a broad selection within clothing for all age groups, footwear, electronics, delicacies, art ware and much more.

Nyborg Municipality highly prioritises the development of Nyborg Castle as a candidate for Unesco’s World Heritage list and allows the past to gain value for the present and the future.

Nyborg Municipality and East Funen’s Museums are working together with a number of state institutions on a project regarding the establishment of a new wing for Nyborg Castle as well as the remodelling of the tower, bridge and square.
