Todd Johnson has been working as a mortgage lender since 1991. At first, after graduating from Oregon State with degrees in engineering, Todd went to work as a technical sales and design engineer. But when he was offered a promotion requiring him to leave behind his beloved Pacific Northwest and relocate, Todd decided to change careers instead. Over the ensuing 29 years, Todd has established himself as a trusted guide through the world of real estate lending whose unparalleled expertise and compassionate attitude lead to positive results for his clients.

As Sales Manager/Senior Mortgage Advisor at Commerce Home Mortgage, Todd and his team serves Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California and Arizona, spending half his time in Sunriver/Bend and the other half in the Willamette Valley. Over 90% of his business is repeat and referral, resulting from the strong relationships he has built with past clients, builders and real estate industry contacts. One of Todd’s team members, JD Campbell, manages the team’s social media outreach and other marketing approaches to bring in new business.

When I can help a first-time homebuyer who couldn’t even conceive they would be able to qualify for a home purchase and own their own home, it’s very rewarding.” Todd also helps homeowners restructure and eliminate debt, greatly reducing their out-of-pocket costs. “It substantially changes their world and puts them in a better place.”

In addition, Todd uses his deep knowledge of the market to help homeowners open up tax-free income streams. “I help people look at their current asset base and liabilities to maximize tax deductibility,” he says, “then reposition assets to acquire other leverage-type investments to create tax-free cash flow. If there’s somebody who has substantial assets, but don’t qualify for traditional financing – typically as they are not showing enough income on tax returns - I can use specific financial platforms to create a qualified income stream without spending any of the asset.”

Todd and his team believe in the importance of giving back to their community. They are involved in Cast and Blast, an annual charity event that includes guided fishing, skeet shooting, dinner, live music and an auction, which raises tens of thousands to support veterans and their families via Forward Assist and American Warrior Initiative. When he’s not working or giving back, Todd loves to

spend time being active in the outdoors: golfing, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, mountain biking, hiking, camping and skiing—you name it, Todd does it. His two daughters, ages 21 and 23, frequently join him on his outings. “My goal has always been to have fun first and make money second,” Todd says. “I want to continue building on what we have, streamline our processes/systems, help people and hopefully along the way make some new friends and have fun every day”
