When people are looking for a house, they often treat the process as a quest for “the one” house that will fulfill their dreams of living in the house of their dreams. Don’t be fooled. It is always a search for “the one”, at least when it comes to helping a couple or family find a home.

When you look at your client’s search for a home in this manner, then you might begin to notice some pretty obvious similarities

between shopping for a home today and online dating. In this day and age most people live a substantial part entire lives online. People socialize with their friends on Facebook, they meet potential friends in forums and online communities, and we now even search for our perfect mate online. Help Your Clients Maintain Their Dream Home & Ensure a Lifetime of Happiness You can’t just disappear after the transaction is finished. Become their realtor for life by showing your clients how to maintain their dream home. Act as their resource for other professionals they may need to maintain the house such as handymen, plumbers, electricians, etc. Show them how to keep up with home maintenance so they don’t ignore problems that surface and end up with a much larger issue than they started with. Most top real estate agents find ways to welcome their clients to their new home. A common theme is a bottle of wine and some wine glasses for that first post-threshold toast, or a bouquet of flowers to brighten up that empty living space until the furniture arrives.

But are you truly being as creative as you can with your appreciation? Here are some innovative gift ideas that will truly keep you front of mind with your valued customers and assure their gratitude and repeat business, not to mention a slew of referrals.

1. How about a streaming video device, like a Roku

or Amazon Fire Stick? There’s a good chance your clients will not have their cable service up and running for a few days, and this is an excellent way for them to enjoy their television before they get that connection going. Bundle it up in a basket with some DVD’s for the kids, and don’t forget all necessary cables.

2. Matching bathrobes and Bath kits: Fleece or ter-

So when it comes to gifting your buyers, the trick is to be creative. A bottle of wine lasts one night, and the flowers wilt in a few days. Try coming up with something a little more creative that will remain with your clients in their day-to-day lives and remind them of you consistently. After working as a foreign language teacher at a local high school, Elizabeth Martin decided to join forces with her father—who had retired his construction business in NJ, —and purchase an apartment complex together in north Georgia, which started her on a path into real estate. In 2010, she saw an opportunity to take advantage of the foreclosure market and began flipping homes with her husband in the Cherokee County area.

I look out for the best interest of my clients and I really listen to what they are looking for in a home.” On the listing side, her staging experience from flipping homes comes into play and she will be honest and advise them on what improvements or updating will be necessary to sell their home quickly. “Most of my listings sell within 2 weeks, some in just a couple of days and at top dollar because they show very well. I actually have a dedicated storage area in my home full of various staging items that I use regularly for my listings.” In order to stay in touch with her clients even after a transaction is over, she has a quarterly magazine that she sends out to them and even delivers thoughtful gifts throughout the year.

Elizabeth also stays busy by being involved in her community. Besides being captain of an ALTA women’s tennis team for several years, she also is Chairperson of her neighborhood tennis committee tasked with rebuilding the tennis program.

Aside from having two college aged daughters, Elizabeth and her husband also fostered a teenager last year. When she does have time off, she loves to travel, especially to Europe, where she can get in touch with her roots. For quick weekend trips, she likes to take her family to their lake front home on the beautiful Lake Chatuge. “Real estate can be very demanding and getting away for a couple of days up in the Georgia mountains helps me recharge.”

In the future, Elizabeth’s goal is finding a business partner and growing a team of agents, and one day become a Red Barn managing broker with her own office. You have around 7 seconds to convince a person to like you after you initially meet them. That is how long it takes them to decide when they meet you. After that a person is simply spending the rest of the conversation justifying that initial reaction they had. You can make sure you make a good first impression by having strong posture, a firm handshake, a warm smile, and open shoulders.

BE FEARLESS Successful people know that to give in to fear is a choice. They don’t let the fear take over, instead focusing on the rush of euphoria that comes with conquering fears.
