How to Get the Biggest Recharge Out of Your Lunch Hour

When things get busy, it’s typical to find a grab-and-go lunch and keep plugging away on the tasks at hand. While some days demand this kind of hustle, your lunch hour can be a valuable window in which to recharge and set the tone for the latter half of your day. In fact, taking a mindful break at midday can create mental space for extended productivity and provide the morale boost necessary to take on a new task for the afternoon. But how do you maximize that hourlong reprieve amidst a busy schedule? Here are a few ideas for inspiration, no matter what your tastes or preferred habits may be.

Taking a mindful break at midday can create mental space for extended productivity and provide the morale boost necessary to take on a new task for the afternoon.

GET MOVING Just ten minutes of light exercise can get your blood pumping and your energy renewed. Step outside and take a brisk walk around the block, or walk to your favorite sandwich shop instead of hopping in your car. Find ways to incorporate light exercise into your lunch hour routine and you’ll not only enjoy a chance to stretch your legs and get your eyes off of screens, but you’ll also reap the health and mood benefits of endorphins. Even extended stretching or mild calisthenics can provide rejuvenating relief in short order.

PLAY CATCH UP Sometimes catching up with an old friend or family member can brighten your day and give you a morale-boosting outlet beyond the office. During your next lunch hour, why not combine a jaunt around the block with a call to catch up with your sibling or college buddy? Shifting your focus from work and centering instead on a comforting interpersonal relationship can really boost your mood and reinforce your personal values.

SOAK UP THE SUN If you’re tempted to eat your lunch at your desk while staring into the same computer screen that you’ve been working on for hours—think again. Sure, a busy schedule sometimes means making that sacrifice, but when your schedule and weather permits, try to take your lunch outside and disconnect from your office setting. Soak up the sun, feel the breeze, and lift your gaze to the horizon instead of toward your phone or computer screen. The mood-boosting benefits of time spent recharging outside are well-documented, and a change of scenery can give you the boost you need to power through your afternoon to-do list.

CHANGE YOUR TUNE Use your lunch hour to treat your senses. As you eat or get active, try queuing up your favorite music or the latest episode of your favorite podcast. If you focus on the same tasks and stimuli for too long, your brain will fatigue and your focus will erode steadily over time. Shift gears and treat your mind to some music or stimulation outside of your daily tasks. You’ll help yourself relax, recharge, and create a natural transition point for your ensuing afternoon workflow.

Your lunch hour isn’t just about being purely functional. If you want to maintain a steady rate of productivity and leave the office satisfied by the progress of your day—use your lunch hour wisely. As important as it is to nourish your body, also consider nourishing your mind. No matter what your chosen outlet may be, don’t overlook the power of a well-spent lunch hour and the positive benefits that are sure to follow.

DIANA C. HART California Loangoddess

Having worked in the mortgage industry for over 23 years, Diana Hart runs her own personal business out of her home in Murrieta, California, with a book of clients stretching across the state.

While some might view the mortgage brokerage industry as being primarily concerned with sales, California Loangoddess Diana Hart takes a different approach. For her, being a mortgage consultant is all about helping people achieve their dreams. “For many people, homeownership is part of the American dream,” Diana says. “Every day I get to help guide people through one of the biggest decisions they make in their lives so they can achieve that dream.”

After starting off in the industry as an appointment setter for a mortgage shop,

Diana quickly worked her way up, and within six months was running her own department. After a couple years she went to work for a direct lender, before deciding that she wanted to go independent. Now she runs her own personal business out of her home in Murrieta, California, with a book of clients stretching all across the state. With a kind and helpful attitude, Diana has built herself a stellar reputation as one of the go-to mortgage brokers in her community. Having worked in the mortgage industry for over 23 years, Diana has a wealth of experience she can draw on when assisting her clients. While her brokerage works with all the standard financing options, Diana also has experience assisting clients who have recently suffered bankruptcy or are in other unique situations. “Recently I had a very unique property in Northern California that had 20 acres on it and nobody was able to finance the loan,” Diana explains. “But

“I really am relentless. If a lender tells me no, I just move on to the next lender, which is something we are able to do in the broker industry that big banks can’t. ”

I got in there, reached out through my network and was able to get it financed.”

Diana credits her tenacity and consistency as being the primary catalysts of her success. “I go the extra mile for every transaction I’m involved in. I want my clients to be confident in my work. If the agents involved are impressed with my services, then they may give me referrals down the road,” Diana tells Top Agent. “I really am relentless. If a lender tells me no, I just move on to the next lender, which is something we are able to do in the broker industry that big banks can’t. I’ve even taken files as far as directly to Fannie Mae or HUD in order to get approval on a loan that other lenders wouldn’t touch.”

Clearly this approach resonates well with people, as all of Diana’s business comes from repeat clients or referrals.

When Diana isn’t working, she loves to spend time with her family, loading up the trailer to head out camping. She loves attending baseball games and Rock concerts, and encouraging her son’s

baseball enthusiasm. In addition, she is a huge advocate for foster kids within her community, and is currently raising an eight-year-old and caring for a 15 year old special needs child in her home. “I love everything related to kids. Every year me and my family get involved with efforts to buy Christmas presents for underprivileged youth or struggling families within

our community. Everyone who knows me knows that I require crowd participation,” Diana says with a laugh. “I always get all my friends and family to chip in on whatever cause I’m involved with, because I believe it takes a village.”

Looking to the future, Diana is excited to grow her business while continuing to help people in her community. “My goal is to always help people save money, and to help people who never thought they could obtain homeownership get into the home of their dreams.”
