Anxiety is defined by the American Psychological Association as an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes such as increased blood pressure.

The National Institute of Health conducted a research study in 2020 that found 25-40% of students struggle with academicrelated anxiety. Many academic related anxieties can be rooted to performance, peers, family, and self-esteem. It can be difficult to know how to best assist our children to allow them to best succeed in the academic environment. Below are a few strategies that can be beneficial to help students who’ve been struggling in this area.

Establishing an evening and morning routine, as well as keeping a consistent sleep schedule, can help build healthy habits and consistency in our children’s lives that can reduce stress responses. It is important to create a space within the home designated for schoolwork, with minimal distractions available. Using timers for schoolwork and break times can be helpful to keep students on task at home. It can also be useful to have a check in at the beginning of the week to make sure parent(s) and student are aware of due dates and assignments needed to be completed that week. Some families have found it beneficial to mark these dates on a calendar in a common area easily seen throughout the week, such as kitchen, family room, etc., so tasks won’t be forgotten or overlooked.

Another technique to remember is reflecting on how we encourage and talk to our children, especially when it relates to academic performance and expectations. It can have more of an impact than we may realize. The language we use with our children can have a direct impact on self-esteem, confidence, and negative belief systems that can form based on how we approach these areas. Positive reinforcement has shown to increase the likelihood of a behavior to be repeated in the future. For example, if you have a child who has been struggling with turning assignments in late and makes a change in this behavior by submitting an assignment on time; it is key to acknowledge that positive change to enhance the chances of this continuing. Another technique with language is utilizing compassionate talk towards our children.

It is essential to acknowledge the increase in academic related anxiety post pandemic. Mental Health Professionals are discussing the impacts of isolation and the difficulties shown for students transitioning from virtual learning back to in-person, specifically in overall academic performance, self-confidence, developmentally, and socially. If further assistance is felt needed for your child in this area, it may call for additional resources.

“The language we use with our children can have a direct impact on self-esteem, and confidence.”
Some of the resources within our community that can help assist our students to best succeed in the academic environment are Psychologists, who can conduct psychological assessments to identify mental health diagnoses, as well as any potential learning disabilities that may be impacting academic success. There are Mental Health Professionals that can help in therapy (counseling services) to provide cognitive and behavioral strategies to help reduce academic related anxiety or mood disturbances. Therapy can also be a helpful place where students can learn how to apply these tools on their own. As well, Psychiatrists, PA’s, APRN’s, and PCPs to all who can provide medication management if needed. There are additional providers that can contribute to academic success, such as occupational therapists, speech therapists, and student resource centers. Working collaboratively on a team aspect between Providers, Teachers, school staff, the student, and family can be seen as the best approach to help with academic related concerns.

        what’s your style?
          BY ALLYSON MATTINGLY

Flare. Skinny. Mom jeans. Straight leg.
We all have our tried-and-true favorite kind of jeans, but is your go-to actually the best type for you? There’s no denying jeans are a staple in any wardrobe, and slipping into a perfectly fitting pair is a feeling on the edge of euphoria. We’ve all made the mistake of picking up a pair of jeans in the store that we think will accentuate what your momma gave you, but when we try them on at home, we look more like papaw in his work pants.

There’s no better time than the spring to clean out your closet, getting rid of those ill-fitting jeans and making room for a new pair…or a few. For now, sit a spell and get ready to slip into something more you with our guide to the perfect jeans!

With a curvy lower half and a smaller upper body, it can be difficult to pick the perfect pair of denim for a pear-shaped body. To enhance your shape, and that bum, we recommend trying out curvy fit jeans. The waist is cut a bit smaller with more room in the hip, hugging you in all the right places. Boot cut and flared jeans are the most flattering, especially if you go for a pair of high rises!

For those with an athletic body type, when finding the perfect pair of jeans, the focus should be on defining the waist to break up the straight silhouette. High rise jeans are a good way to create definition at the waist, and wide leg styles are loose enough to accommodate muscular thighs. Boyfriend jeans are always a comfortable option and are the way to go if you’re having a casual night out.

Having an hourglass shape can mean jeans that gap in the waist, even when they fit everywhere else. Once you know what elements to look for in your denim, shopping for jeans will be a breeze. Like the pear-shaped body, curvy fit jeans will work the best for an hourglass body. High rise, wide leg jeans tend to hug your hips and thighs while also fitting your waist; boot cuts and flares define your curves while giving you a cinched waist.

As the name suggests, apple shaped bodies are heavier on the top than on the bottom, with characteristics like a thick waist, narrow hips, a large bust, and broad shoulders. Like the rectangle build, wide leg jeans help balance out your lower half and create a fashionable silhouette. If you’re not into the wide leg trend, straight legs or flare jeans work well for the apple shape, too. Also look for non-stretch denim to provide structure to the bottom half for a flattering shape.

            for the men

Every man needs a pair of classic blue jeans that they can bust out of the closet at a moment’s notice. A good pair of jeans is dependable and durable, all while being fashionable, yet casual. Denim should suit your body type, and most guys can rock a pair of mid-rise, slimstraight jeans. Look for a pair that fits comfortably at the hips and doesn’t have too much excess fabric around the thigh or ankles.

Whether dressing your pair up with a blazer and dress shirt or going casual with a plain white tee, a pair of dark blue jeans goes with everything. Light wash jeans tend to be more popular in the warmer months, and black or gray jeans can give you a trendy, edgier look. When in doubt, stick with the tried-and-true classic dark blue jeans, because every lady loves a sharp dressed man!

the 5 shoes every man should own...
          brown leather dre shoe

Whether you prefer a classic Oxford or a stylish loafer, you have tons of options for completing your suit looks. We love the way brown leather looks, and it can easily be dressed up or down depending on the situation.

    tennis shoes
We’re not encouraging you to become a full-on sneakerhead, but a good, stylish, clean pair of tennies will serve you well. We recommend something that expresses a bit of your personality, but isn’t too visually overwhelming. (Yes, you should have a totally separate pair for going to the gym or mowing the lawn. But we’re talking about your fashion wardrobe here, not your honey-do wardrobe.)
          ts
bOne of the great things about personal style is that there’s always leeway for you to tailor your selections to your taste. Boots are a great example! Are you a cowboy boots guy or are you more into Alpine hiking boots? Would you prefer a simple slip-on suede ankle boot or a polished lace-up dress boot? You get to choose your own adventure. Just be sure your closet has one pair of boots you’d be proud to wear out.
a dre shoe, but in black

Okay, you can’t just have one pair of dress shoes. You also need a pair in black leather. The traditional wisdom is that it’s safest to wear black shoes with a black suit or black pants, but those rules are flexing somewhat. We recommend getting these in a very different style than your pair of brown dress shoes, so you have options.

    boat shoes
Boat shoes are a classic, preppy accessory that goes far beyond the dock. They are designed to form to your feet as you wear them, and come in a variety of colorways to show off your personality. They work best with shorts and tapered-leg pants, and they’re definitely a more casual choice. If the thought should ever enter your mind that you want to put on flip-flops before you go out, we implore you to pick these up instead. Please?

We all agree that there’s no single item of clothing quite as classic and foundational to your wardrobe as a really great tee. No, we don’t mean that wonky freebie t-shirt you got from that 5K you did six years ago; we mean a thoughtfully-chosen, well-fitting, stainfree tee. If you get the right one, your tee could easily go from the office to date night with just a quick switch-up of your jacket and accessories. It’s truly the base from which great style grows!

This is the most common look for t-shirts. The round, snug-fitting crew neck is so classic, it’s appropriate for just about any occasion. If you’re looking for a style to wear under a button-up or V-neck sweater, vest or cardigan, this is the way to go. It best complements longer faces and sloped shoulders. Those with thicker necks sometimes find this style constrictive.
          V-Ne
Just as the name suggests, this style of neckline dips to form a V. It’s more loose-fitting than a crew neck and can show off just a tiny bit of your chest. These look great with an open blazer but avoid wearing them under something that also has a V-neck. Men with rounder faces and broad shoulders look great in a V-neck. In general, you want your V to extend no further than two fingers’ width below your collarbone; otherwise, it can look sloppy or like clubwear.

    Ne

SThese round necklines dip lower than a traditional crew. These offer more ventilation, so they’re perfect for athleisure. This neckline can look fairly sloppy, however, so it’s best to avoid them for professional settings. That said, more t-shirt brands are making “crew neck” t-shirts that hit just a bit lower than the traditional cut, which can be a great compromise!

This is the t-shirt you know best. They fit loosely through the chest and body while having looser sleeves. These are “classic” for a reason; they work on just about any body shape. If you get the size or length wrong, however, these tees can look boxy and sloppy.
S mThis tee was originally designed to fit slimmer physiques, but in recent years, it has become shorthand for a tee that is just more fitted through the body. These also tend to have more narrow shoulders than a classic fit t-shirt. These are more polished than a classic tee, but less forgiving.
eMCut to show off muscular bodies, these shirts have a slim fit throughout the body but with wider shoulders and sleeves to accommodate beefy arms. This is the least-forgiving cut. You’ll find that most compression tops are cut in this style.

People love to debate whether Kentucky classifies as “the South,” but you have to admit; the summer humidity definitely recommends us for the job. Suiting in the summertime can be a sweaty bother. That’s where linen comes in. This flax-based fiber dries quickly and is generally woven to be breathable and light. They’re rarely inexpensive, but fortunately, linen is extremely durable. Your linen suit will serve you for years to come.

Even if you’re one of those rare 20/20 people (we can’t relate), blue blockers can help filter out HEV blue light from your screens – computer, phone, etc. – and can protect your peepers while helping you sleep better, have fewer headaches and more. And don’t forget about sunnies! Classic shades, such as Aviators and Wayfarers, can help you look very put together when you’re out and about. If you need vision correction, invest in a pair of prescription sunglasses.

Okay, this isn’t just our love of Yellowstone talking. These have the polish of a traditional button-up with the casual flair of denim. Wear a chambray shirt with a white tee underneath, and you’re suddenly casual-cool; tucked into darker denim jeans with boots, you’ll look ranch-ready.
          watch it!
You need a watch. Yes, we know your phone can tell you the time, but watches are far less about function than style. Choose a metal that complements your skin tone (Google it if you’re not sure) and a size that feels proportional to your hands and wrist; bigger hands, bigger watch face and band.
That said, if you still want function and style, we encourage you to choose a smart watch. The benefit here? You can buy multiple bands and swap them out in a snap! We recommend having metal, braided leather and a fun strap that reflects your personality or interests. •

Not everyone enjoys wearing a thong, making no-show panties the perfect substitute to keep you line-free, all day long.

The inconveniences of menstruation include not only PMSing and cramps from you know where, but when an unexpected arrival or leaking ruins a perfectly good pair of panties, it makes you want to scream! If ruining underwear is an ongoing problem during your time of the month, period panties are the answer. These can be a more sustainable option to pads and tampons, and they offer odor control, are absorbent, and typically leak-proof. While we’re not 100% sold on the idea, we definitely want to give these a shot!

Underwear probably isn’t a top priority when crossing off your gym checklist, but a quality pair can make a huge difference in your workout. To help you round out your gym wardrobe, we recommend adding a few pairs of moisturewicking, cotton or synthetic underwear to your drawer. For the best post-gym hygiene and an ultra-comfy workout, stay away from tight materials that could cause chafing, while staying light and airy throughout your whole session.

The Gtl ’s Guide to ACCESSORIZING

    by: amanda harper

For many men, “accessorizing” is really more about utility than style. Watch, wedding band, socks, belt. Maybe a laptop bag or a tie, depending on the day ahead.

Nearly everyone agrees that a first impression is the one that counts. What impression is your outfit giving the world? For most guys, it’s a big ol’ yawn.

And it’s not your fault! Maybe you have always only looked at the things you put on as essentials. Maybe you worry that trying hard will take up more of your time.
Maybe you don’t know a thing about fashion and are intimidated by all the lingo. Or maybe someone in your life actually discouraged you from getting too “out there” with your style.

We’re here to help. This handy guide will recommend some simple ways to let your personality shine through your accessories – because, yes, everything you put on beyond the shirt and pants is an accessory! We’ll also gently nudge you away from some style faux pas to make it easy.

The Throwback Accessories Every Man Should Have 6
Don’t call it a comeback. So many men’s accessories are truly timeless; a leather wallet, a braided leather belt, a gold watch. But there are many that have fallen out of favor for no good reason. These are some retro staples that we think need to come back into rotation pronto.

            CufflinksTie barPocket square

There is no surer sign that a man understands style than a pair of cufflinks; not only do they help express your personality, they also demonstrate that you’re stylish enough to need cufflinks. (Confused?

    Google “French cuffs.”)
This classic accessory deserves its day in the sun once more. Yes, it helps keep your tie looking neat and orderly, but it also adds just a little flare to your suit. Not having one is a wasted opportunity to show off a little personality!
If your jacket needs a little extra oomph, nothing does the trick quite like a pocket square. Coordinate with your tie or contrast; it’s up to you! Never sure if the look works? Ask an expert at your favorite men’s store for guidance.
          Hat Boutonnière Leather Bag

Used to thinking of these as strictly wedding attire? Think again; even James Bond rocks this accessory! Sometimes referred to simply as “flower lapel pins,” these blooms add a stylish little touch to your blazer, tux or suit coat.

Who doesn’t secretly envy the days when hats were a necessary outfit staple? Find a hat that works with your face shape. Most importantly? Actually commit to wearing the darn thing – outside of the blustery winter months.
We won’t go so far as to insist you have a briefcase, but we do think you need a leather bag that could seamlessly go from the office to the weekend. High-quality leather will last you years to come and take you anywhere you want to go.

MYTH: a scent labeled as a“cologne” doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a men’s fragrance. That term refers instead to the concentration of the fragrance oils, which is actually lower than a perfume. So why are so many men’s colognes so much stronger than perfumes? They rely on powerful, bold notes like cedar, patchouli and amber to pack a punch!
You probably don’t think of your fragrance as a style accessory. Most guys pick one cologne and wear it every single day. While there’s nothing wrong with having a signature scent, it’s important to consider whether that fragrance matches your overall look.
A strong, bracing cologne with enormous throw is basically a boardroom power move, but is it really appropriate for every day at the office? Does it make any sense at all to wear something so heady in warm weather? (No is the correct answer to both.)
And if you haven’t changed your cologne in the last five years, it’s definitely time to give something else a shot.

You deserve a little luxury. High-quality jewelry should be a staple of any man’s wardrobe. Unfortunately, so many men get short-changed when it comes to baubles. We think you should go have a little treat yourself moment, king!
          Wat Your Tone
Most men’s jewelry defaults to stainless steel, silver and white gold or platinum. But that may not necessarily be the right metal for you; these materials best suit those with cooler skin tones. Many men with warmer complexions look great in yellow gold, copper and brass. Even after Googling, you may still be confused about which might work for you. In that case, either select pieces with both white and yellow gold or aim for pieces that have warm leather alongside cool metals.

    Longevity

Some metals and stones aren’t suited to wear and tear. Work with your jeweler to select pieces that might be appropriate for your lifestyle. Men who work in physically-demanding industries may need pieces made from alternative materials that are safer and/or stronger, for instance.
          Importt Proportions
Men with larger frames need larger, more visually “heavy” jewerly. On a man with a smaller frame, big pieces are downright overwhelming – bordering on gaudy. Then again, men with longer hand and arms might need a more visually arresting watch while a man with short arms needs something more simple. It’s important to select pieces that have a good balance with your body’s proportions. A jewelry expert can help you choose well.
          Timeless Style

Good jewelry is an investment. Classic, clean, sophisticated pieces will always be in fashion; it just makes sense to select something that will pass the test of time. Jewelry made from high-quality materials will be with you for years to come.

If you want to follow some trends or get something a little more funky, don’t feel as though you have to pick the best-quality materials. You’ll be wearing this less and for a shorter period of time, so just get what appeals to you!

Even if you’re scared of accidentaly overdoing it, that’s sometimes better than wearing no accessories at all. A nice belt, a patterned tie, a gold bracelet or a clean bag can go a long way to helping you look polished.

MYTH: What’s “out” today will not necessarily be “in” again in a few years. Even when fashion recycles old trends, there tend to be updates to the old look. Don’t hang onto stuff just because you think it might be cool again sometime in the next 20 years. •

    “
Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.“
Richard E. Rogers leans on a foundational lesson he learned early on to deliver thoughtful, and effective legal advice in the legal and real estate fields to his valued clients today.
“I learned at an early age in life what most people consider to be their greatest assets: their families and the homes or farms in which they live,” Rogers recalled. “This understanding in combination with my longing to help others, is what led me to a career in the fields of law and real estate. As poor of an analogy as it might be, I can literally help anyone with a tailored experience from cradle to grave, no matter what their situation may be.”
Practicing law privately in the specialties of real estate, estate planning and probate; serving as in-house counsel for Foundation Title & Escrow Series, LLC; and as acting Principal Broker of Rogers & Co. Real Estate; Rogers offers holistic legal services in some of the region’s most important sectors, advocating for clients and acting as their closest ally along the way.
“The culminating philosophy behind the organizations I am proud to be a part of is quite simple,” he explained. “We strive to challenge conventional thinking by enhancing the customer/client experience, while also bettering the lives of our colleagues, customers and clients, along with all of those whom we share experiences, relationships and transactions.”
Rogers has been driven not only by the foundational lessons of his early life, but also by the example his parents set. Rogers and his siblings were taught that, no matter what they achieved personally or professionally, the most meaningful accomplishments were in how they served others. Rogers has found that he is most able to fulfill that example today by combining his growing expertise in the fields of law and real estate.
“Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person,” he reflected. “Law and real estate are ever changing, as are the people and professionals within the industries. As cliché as it sounds, the industries I currently work in truly are relationship driven. That is why I pride myself on being able to relate to as many people as I possibly can, whether it be as an attorney, fiduciary, realtor or friend.”
This emphasis on relationships, and genuine passion for serving as many different people as he can, is what makes this the place that Rogers feels most comfortable and driven to deliver his expertise.
“I love the diversity of the Lexington area, the people who call it home and the many rare attributes that make it what it is today,” he said. “It’s truly an eclectic mix of people, beautiful geography unlike any other in the world, and the many rare qualities it possesses are what make me proud to now call it home.”

Anyone who uses self tanner knows there are two extremes: absolutely amazing, a glowing goddess; or “bless her heart” that girl is orange! Though self tanner is a far better option than exposing your skin to the harsh rays of a tanning bed, it can go real south, real quick. If you’re trying to get that pre-vacation, natural glow, it’s important to approach sunless tanning with patience, the right tools, and maybe even a friend to help get those hard-to-reach spots.
To help you achieve your bronzed babe status, we’ve stuck our hands in the mitt and found the best self tanners for an easy, streak-free experience. Don’t want the hassle of applying sunless tanner? Lucky for you, dear reader, we’ve also thrown in some of our favorite go-to bronzers, for the days when you want a summer glow without the self tanner!

This self tanner is the holy grail of all self tanners, providing long-lasting, beautiful results. Not only is it a breeze to spread all over your skin, but it doesn’t leave that icky sticky feeling we’re all too familiar with. And, with a delicious coconut scent, you won’t be inhaling that self tanner smell all day!

Coola Gradual Tan Dry Body Oil

It may be a bit pricey, but this Coola Gradual Tanning Oil is worth the splurge! This oil mist absorbs quickly, while keeping your skin feeling moisturized with ingredients like argan oil and aloe. We love that this is a vegan product, contains no GMOs, and is cruelty free. Some users claim this is harder to use than a lotion, but with a bit of practice, you’ll be a bronzed babe in no time.

Rest easy knowing you’ve successfully avoided chemicals with this natural self tanning lotion. Packed with moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, you can build a light, medium, or dark tan and still have a natural looking glow. Because this tanner is chemical-free, many users apply it to their face for a sun-kissed look. Some say it does have the tendency to turn orange in fine lines and wrinkles, so make sure to keep an eye on it after application.

Drugstores are packed with various self tanners, all doing their best to catch your eye. We love this option from Jergens, as it’s easy to apply, is scented with coconut and passionfruit, and doesn’t leave any pesky stains on your clothing. While we love this self tanner for its low price, it can get a little orange for folks with red and pink undertones. We recommend reserving this for the gals with olive-toned complexions to get the best, natural results. It’s also not the most long-lasting, meaning you’ll have to reapply every few days.

            EXOTIC ELEGANCE in Lexington

BY FRAN ELSEN PHOTOS BY STEPHANIE GILMORE

As a kid growing up in Bardstown Kentucky, Jeremy Delk grew up loving beautiful cars and always dreamed of one day owning one himself. Today, now with several of his dream cars in his portfolio, he wanted to build a community where car enthusiasts and dreamers like his younger self could come together, up-close with easy access; where you really felt like you were part of it; this is when Lex Exotics became a reality.

Lex Exotics is a private members-only club centered around the love of classic and exotic automobiles. Lexington has quite a strong car community with hundreds of people showing up the first Saturday of every month at Cars and Coffee to admire, show, and converse. Now, with Lex Exotics, individuals can have access to some of the most exotic cars with varying levels of membership. For as low as $245 per month (includes one guest who can split the investment). This is less than the cost of one Starbucks coffee a day! Members are able to hang out and admire over $1 million in cars while enjoying their favorite UK game or F1 Race on one of two 85” TVs. Additionally, they can get their laps in on the complimentary RedBull Racing F1 Simulator or play a game of poker with friends and other members. Pebble Beach as well as 30 other courses from around the world are also available on the state-of-the-art Foresight Golf Simulator. The club membership includes 100% complimentary drinks and snacks as well.
The club can also be reserved for private parties by members for a nominal charge both during the week and on weekends. Beyond the social memberships, car aficionados can also store their pride and joy in a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled car vault that includes a video monitored security system.

“There’s truly no experience like Lex Exotics in the state of Kentucky” Jeremy says.

“If you’re a car lover we offer a great environment for car enthusiasts to be able to hang out while sharing their passion. Some owners don’t have the space, nor want to invest the $100,000s of dollars into facility like this just for themselves. This also gives car owners the opportunity to store their vehicles at the club with 24/7 access + all club amenities for less than $400 a month… less than $300 if you have one more vehicle to store. Most Lexington storage facilities are dusty garages storing RVs and boats. We have a high-quality, temperaturecontrolled video surveillance car vault. To call this a great “alternative” is a HUGE understatement”.

The Clubs first members only launch party May 13th will include special guest and member future Wildcat DJ Wagner and other special guests.
Jeremy’s biggest inspiration is his wife and kids. He enjoys being able to share his passion with his son while growing the community and sharing more events like this with the public. “We offer a unique, one-of-a- kind experience with Lex Exotics. I can’t wait to see all the fun we will have! See you at Lex Exotics!

After months spent indoors avoiding the frigid temperatures, it’s time to get out and soak up the delicious sun! Whether you’re heading to the tropics or enjoying a relaxing staycation, getting your summer body ready for sand, sun, and surf can feel like a daunting task. Fortunately, we’ve created a guide to a variety of detoxes and cleanses for the summer, so you can flaunt your new teeny-weeny polka dot bikini wherever you are!

Drinking too much alcohol can not only make you feel bloated, but it can also prevent your liver from carrying out normal functions, such as detoxifying. Cutting out wine, beer, and cocktails is one simple way to reduce bloating and even lose a bit of weight before summer. Instead of reaching for a beer, try drinking green tea to boost your metabolism or lemon water to kickstart your digestive system.

    Eat Fresh

A nice, juicy cheeseburger may sound tantalizing, but high fiber, protein-rich foods are the way to go when detoxing. Foods like salmon, sweet potatoes, dark chocolate, walnuts, and quinoa all contribute to a healthy diet with plenty of health-supporting attributes.
Eating foods high in prebiotics is also important for keeping your detoxification system in check. Good food sources of prebiotics include bananas, oats, garlic, tomatoes, asparagus, and more. These foods can also help your immune system, keeping you happy and healthy!

    Get More Sleep

Adequate sleep is critical to supporting your body’s health, and can even cause toxin build-up if you don’t get enough z’s during the night. Getting 7-9 hours each night allows your brain to recharge from the day while simultaneously eliminating toxins. A good night’s sleep can even help control your appetite throughout the day, so no more overeating!

          Pulp & Press
If you’re a fan of green juices, Pulp & Press is your bread and butter. The company has four different cleanses, and offers the option to choose cleanse duration. The best part is, if you’re not wanting to complete an entire cleanse, you can order individual juices, wellness shots, and smoothies, all made with high-quality ingredients.

With five different juice cleanses, and two fat-burning latte cleanses, there is something for everyone! Many of Lemonkind’s juices contain powerful superfoods and nutrient-dense botanicals, which come in easy, single-serve pouches. Plus, if you have food allergies or just don’t like an ingredient, Lemonkind offers a customizable cleanse.
While juice cleanses are a popular way to reset your body, there are varying opinions on the health benefits of doing a juice cleanse. You should talk to a doctor before implementing a large change in your diet, and always listen to your body and what it needs!

            No Time? No Pressure.
When warm weather rolls in and it comes time to enjoy the great outdoors once again, it can be easy to put off any number of chores or cleaning todos. But pressure washing is a process worth investing in at this time of year, as it offers a wide range of benefits for our homes and businesses beyond just a deep clean:

    1. A WHOLE NEW LOOK
It’s worth underscoring that a pressure wash does not merely clean surfaces, but it grants homes and businesses brand new looks with shocking visual differences. Pathways that were once covered with dirt and siding that was once caked with grime will look completely new, maybe even sporting brandnew colors, following a thorough pressure wash.
And this new appearance of a home or business isn’t just nice for their owners: People will judge the value of a home or the quality of a business based on their outer appearances. Don’t you want to put your best foot forward by demonstrating the true quality of yours?

          2. PREVENTING SURFACE DAMAGE
Pressure washing is critical for mitigating the damage that grime or dirt build up can have on homes and businesses, so it’s clear that the practice is needed not just for appearances, but maintenance as well.
But it should be noted that inexperienced pressure washing can do more harm than good. Pressure washers typically have a range of settings and best practices for handling, so it’s not uncommon for users to crack, chip or scratch as they work. Inexperienced users can even hurt themselves or others with such powerful tools.
Luckily, professional handymen are able to avoid those mistakes with detailed knowledge of how best to leverage pressure washers of all kinds and ensure clean surfaces, without any risk of damage.

    3. THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB
It might seem obvious that a pressure washer is the best tool for cleaning home or business surfaces, preserving value and preventing damage (especially if you’ve made it this far into the article), but getting your hands on the right washer for your needs is easier said than done. Should you buy one? Rent it? And what specifications should it have exactly?

Finding the right tool for a pressure washing job can be more trouble than it’s worth, so consider hiring a service with the expertise and equipment needed to provide the benefits of a good pressure wash with none of the complications. A qualified handyman can bring the best tool for the job, along with the knowledge of how to use it, and leave your home or business looking better than ever.

Fringe is all over the runways, but interestingly enough, it’s also popping up in our backyards. When we saw the Dolly Parton-themed rooftop bar, White Limozeen at The Graduate in Nashville, we knew it wouldn’t be long until this trend made its way to our homes. Fringe on patio umbrellas is such an unexpected look! It’s a little bit country, a little bit tropical and a whole lot of fun.

With that, more outdoor pillows, throws, umbrellas and cushions are also getting the tassel treatment. Tassels are absolutely timeless, but they’re a fun detail that helps your outdoor space feel elevated. We love pairing this trend with other textures and bold patterns for a custom look.

Plants can be your secret weapon for a lush, cozy backyard experience. Plants trained to a trellis, arch, wall or pergola can offer tons of beauty alongside both shade and privacy.

A lot of homeowners worry that garden walls can sometimes take years to fill out. That can be true, but the wonderful thing about these structures is that they can be stunning even when they’re bare. This means your winter will still be beautiful.
If you love the look but don’t have the time, many potted plants can be trained to a smallersized trellis. And, of course, don’t forget about the uniquely Southern joy that is a well-placed topiary!

“With multiple outdoor seating areas, it’s a great place for food and drinks,” explained Mama Tequila’s team. “At night, the restaurant transitions to a bar and dance space, bringing in live music and DJs for weekend performances.”
Open for brunch, lunch and dinner and serving food and drinks every day of the week, Mama Tequila specializes in the perfect patio foods. For instance, diners crave the pollo jalisco: grilled and juicy chicken topped with chorizo, grilled onions and melted cheese, served with rice, beans and corn or flour tortillas — paired with a mango chamoy margarita, of course.
“Mama Tequila is the sister restaurant of El Rancho Tapatio,” the team added. “Between the two, we’re able to offer many of the classic recipes that Lexington has loved for years and do it in a hip, downtown location.”

          Orange Wine

No, this isn’t wine made from oranges! Also known as skincontact wine, these varieties are essentially white wines made using a similar technique to what’s used to produce red wine. It’s an interesting flavor that fans of wine will love, but the nuance may be lost on an unseasoned palate.
Our pick: Gerard Bertrand Orange Gold
          Rosé
Rosés are popular for a reason; they’re easy sips, even for folks who don’t normally gravitate toward wine. They’re bright, refreshing and often lean a tad sweet – perfect for enjoying with the lighter fare of May. It has an undeserved reputation as “basic,” however; rosés can be surprising and exciting!
Our pick: Chenault Vineyards Flower Shop Rosé

    Catawba
Catawba is an unusual red. This hybrid grape offers both robust flavor and sweet notes that balance beautifully. That makes this wine perfect for grilling season! It’s strong enough to hold up to the deep flavor of the grill, but not so aggressive that it will overwhelm more delicate sides. This will be a new favorite!
          Our pick: Talon Winery Afterglow

Optional: place cheese, olive oil and a pinch of sea salt to a food processor, and puree until smooth. Stir in chives.
When ready to top pizza, spread it with sauce (if desired), and add cheese mix- ture. Top with onions and sliced fig, and warm through.
When ready to serve, top with fresh herbs.
TIP: this recipe is easily adaptable. If you like firmer cheese, place it directly on the pizza without making the puree. If you want softer figs, grill them lightly before adding them to the pizza. Sauce or no sauce. Drizzle with olive oil, balsamic vinegar or leave it plain. Throw on some prosciutto, bacon, sauteed mushrooms or chicken. Add your favorite herbs, microgreens or arugula... or not! Get playful with this delicious pie.

            Avocado
Avocados are widely considered a superfood, as they offer tons of vitamins and minerals, including potassium, folate and vitamin C. They’re low in sugar and high in fiber. They may be high in fat, but it’s the “good” fat that can help you lower bad cholesterol – when eaten in moderation.
Most avocados are grown in Central America; in the US, they’re primarily grown in California and Florida. US-grown avocados are in season from April through the summer.

          Poke Bowl Rice
          1 1/2 c. sushi rice
          1 tsp. salt
          2 T rice vinegar
Poke is a traditional Hawaiian dish (“poke” means “to slice” or “cut crosswise into pieces.” It rhymes with “okay.”) Generally, poke includes seasoned raw fish, making it a popular staple in sushi restaurants. In fact, most poke served today has been influenced by Asian cuisine, incorporating soy sauce, seaweed, sriracha and more.) Most poke bowls you’ll see today include avocado, as it adds an interesting texture to the mix, as well as its signature bright green hue!
If you’re looking for an exciting alternative to a boring salad this summer, we suggest whipping up a poke bowl. They’re cool, refreshing and much easier to make than they look. You can mix and match ingredients, or even invite your guests to build their own.

          4 radishes, sliced 1/4 c. edamame
          1/4 c. carrots, shredded
          1/4 red cabbage, shredded
At least three hours ahead of time, add tofu to vegan Soy Marinade and refrigerate, covered. In a seperate bowl or Ziploc bag, add vinegar to cucumber; toss to combine and refrigerate, covered.

          1/2 mango, cubed
          4 radishes, sliced
          2 scallions, chopped seaweed salad
At least three hours before serving, toss cucumber with rice vinegar and refrigerate, covered.

At least 3 hours before serving, toss fish with Soy Marinade; cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Assemble bowls as above, each with a nice scoop of gauc!
Notes: Ahi tuna is great here. Yes, we know this is ridiculous. Have fun with it!
          1 T sugar
Rinse sushi rice in a strainer until the water runs clear. Prepare according to package instructions, cooking until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed. Cover and let sit 10 minutes.
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine salt, vinegar and sugar; warm until sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute, and stir.
Transfer rice to a large plastic bowl. Sprinkle vinegar mixture over the rice, and stir with a rubber spatula for about 2 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
          (adapted from Food Network)
Note: this makes enough rice for approximately four poke bowls, depending on how much rice you prefer with your bowl!
          Sriracha Mayo Sauce

          3 T sriracha juice from 1/2 lemon

Combine ingredients. Refrigerate until use; can be refrigerated for up to 4 days.
Notes: to make this recipe vegan, use vegannaise and agave nectar. The sweetener tempers the heat of this sauce; if you like things spicy, skip the honey/agave entirely.

          2 T soy sauce
          1 T sesame oil
          1 T rice vinegar

Combine ingredients. Toss protein with this sauce to coat.
Notes: to make this recipe vegan, use agave nectar instead of honey.

1 large bunch fresh basil, stripped
          2 avocados, peeled and pitted
          1/2 c. walnuts
          2 T lemon juice
          3 cloves garlic
          1/2 tsp. salt
          1/2 c. olive oil
          Pasta
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
In the bowl of a food processor, combine basil, avocado, walnuts, lemon juice, garlic and salt; pulse until finely chopped. Drizzle in olive oil and pulse until combined, then process until a thick paste forms. (adapted from Eating Well)
Prepare your favorite pasta according to package instructions. Add 1/4 c. of pasta water to food processor, and process until fully combined.
Toss pasta with pesto and crushed red pepper flakes.
Optional: top with a squeeze of fresh lemon and your favorite chopped fresh herbs.
Note: if you want to store extra sauce, press a piece of plastic wrap directly against the surface of the pesto in an airtight container; this will prevent the sauce from browning. This pesto can be refrigerated for up to 5 days.
This recipe is an easy vegan alternative, as the avocado stands in for cheese. Many people use Zoodles instead of traditional pasta for an extra dose of veggies. •

We asked the PDR team what sets them apart:
“Our philosophy here at PDR is simple…it’s not about us, it’s about you. We take that to heart when beginning a new client project. We ask a lot of questions to get to understand your needs and wants so we can parlay them into a finished product you will love. We know the tried and true decorating rules by heart, but aren’t afraid to throw them out the window when the time is right.
All of our projects begin with an initial meeting where we discuss the scope of work and all the details- budget, timeline, etc. Once we have those key points nailed down, we agree upon a plan of how to move forward together. Each project is unique, so this plan varies from client to client.”

I cannot put into words how much this school means to us. Our son wakes up every morning, excited to go to school. The empathy he’s developed toward others and his respect for wildlife and plant-life developed tremendously while at The Nature Schools. My daughter gained so much knowledge, wonderful memories, and hopefully lifelong friendships during her experience at The Nature Schools. Her teachers have loved her every step of the way, and we are so grateful for each f them. As we conclude our experience at The Nature Schools, my tears are mostly happy tears, but truthfully, they’re a bit sad as I think about this wonderful chapter of her life closing.

    LOCAL SPOTLIGHT
Whether it was a total lifestyle change in taking on her family’s beer distribution business, deciding to develop a Thoroughbred operation because she’d always wanted a horse, being a vocal activist for Smart Growth in her Community, or now heading up the leadership for the fundraising and day to day operation of Town Branch Park, she is untrammeled by any of it.
Growing up in Lexington in the heart of Chevy Chase, Ann attended Sayre School, went on to St Mary’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina and then the Atlanta School of Fashion Design. She never intended to take on the beer distributorship that her father had started in 1948.

By 1997 her father’s business had grown from two brands of beer with a couple of trucks to becoming the distributor for the entire line of Anheuser-Busch products. However all the while, Ann had been involved in helping her father with his real estate investments and it was this operation that she fully expected to assume, whilst her brother was pegged to take over the beer business. But decisions were made along the way, and as a result of varying career choices, Ann ended up taking the helm of Kentucky Eagle in 1997.

Her first challenge was to prove herself capable of handling the business in what has traditionally always been a very male world. This was only the beginning of a string of challenges that would span the next twenty-two years and three months – a timeline she provided – adding, “but who’s counting?” During that time not only was she the proverbial cork always bobbing to the surface in troubled waters, but when she handed over the reins of the distributorship to her daughter and son in 2018 the company had expanded from beer to a total beverage company. In her transition she was determined not to be a flyover owner of the company, I wanted my children to take it and run with it,” “They are doing an amazing job,” she said. “They did a big rebranding when they took over and they’ve just hit a big deal and are now the distributors for Sazerac throughout the whole state,” she said with obvious maternal pride. Our beer footprint is just central Kentucky, but now we are now statewide with Sazerac.”

With the family business successfully transferred to the next generation, Ann found herself at one of life’s crossroads. “It was then that Mayor Gray approached me about working on the Town Branch Park project,” she said. “It was perfect timing; I was getting ready to step down from Kentucky Eagle and needed something to keep me busy. I’m not a good retired person,” she added. Mayor Gray told her the city would be undertaking the “trail piece” of the Town Branch Commons project but that they were looking for a partnership with someone who would take on the “park piece”. This sort of partnership didn’t appeal to her, but Ann was intrigued enough to stick her neck out and suggest that if she was going to raise money for a park for her community she wanted it to be controlled by an independent non profit so it could be held to the highest standards possible. She told Mayor Gray “if you want to separate it and have it be where the community builds it, and the community takes care of it, then I’m interested.” This was the deal that was struck.

            a park for the people
Lexington has never taken on a philanthropic project of this scope and size, and many people still are confused and fail to realize that the “park piece” of Town Branch Commons isn’t being funded by the city. It is being funded mainly by gifts from the community. Town Branch Park was formed as a nonprofit organization and will be Lexington’s first true park conservancy – which simply means it’s the first park in Lexington that is and will be operated independently by a nonprofit. However, it is a model that has been increasingly used elsewhere with much success – New York’s Highline, Louisville’s 21st Century Parks, and Waterloo Park in Austin are examples.
Rather than start with a dollar figure that needed to be raised, the organization began from the position of how much would they be able to raise from this community. A fundraising feasibility study was performed to determine this amount and the result indicated that $31M was realistic for a city the size of Lexington. “There were a lot of naysayers early on,” said Ann. “Honey, I mean nobody thought, absolutely nobody thought this amount could be raised.” Their very first gift was from a young girl, now a senior in high school who brought in her piggy bank savings to donate. “The hardest part of fundraising,” said Ann “is that we’re not Louisville. We don’t have Humana or UPS. We don’t have these big corporations.” But with her characteristic enthusiasm and optimism she considers fundraising fun. “We’ll talk to individuals about the project, and you’ll just see them light up,” she said. 70% of the money raised so far has come from individual citizens eager to be a part of this community project.
It is easy to see when talking to Ann how her passion and excitement for this project could fire up even the project’s wettest blankets.
Since 2016 when this project was seeded, and then in 2019 when the non-profit sprouted, costs have sky rocketed. Not only has there been a pandemic, with all the global chaos that that brought about and the subsequent inflation and corresponding cost of living increases, but a major redesign was required when unexpectedly the primary entrance to the park had to be relocated from Main to High Street. All this necessitated a recalibration of the fundraising target and the original goal of $31M for Phase One was adjusted up to $39M.

    182 TOPS | May 2023
Phase One will cover all the construction design, engineering and operations involved in getting the park built and opened. Phase Two will be the ever-ongoing fundraising efforts related to park programming and maintenance. Undaunted by the additional millions now needed, and like The Little Engine That Could, Ann and her team pressed on and now they are just shy $3.3M of that new total. The intention is that this financial gap be closed by the anticipated groundbreaking later this summer. “We’re coming down the home stretch,” said Ann. “We’ve just over $3M left to raise out of $39M, we are almost around the bend, and this sucker is going to be built and opened by 2025,” she said emphatically.
In addition to determining the fundraising capacity from the community, the group went to the community to ask what they wanted featured in their park. “This is a park built by the community, for the community so it made sense to ask them what they wanted,” Ann said. The response was overwhelming with more than 1600 suggestions submitted via various forums and survey opportunities.
Early in the planning phase, a Knight Foundation Grant paid for a group to travel to Copenhagen and other places throughout the United States on fact-finding and information gathering trips. “Before we got started, we went to visit other similar parks to learn their best practices, but more than anything I wanted to find out their oopses, you can learn a lot from the oops-es” said Ann. What they found was the single biggest oops occurred when design decisions had been made before the programming had been determined. This resulted in a lot of costly and unnecessary adding and subtracting of facilities.
“So, we knew to start with deciding on our programming and then designed the park around those decisions. We shall have a park built to accommodate the things the community said they wanted,” Ann said. A dog park, yoga classes, a splash park play area, cooking classes, and plein air painting opportunities are all part of the planned programming and annually there will be over 600 free events for the public to enjoy. The state-of-the-art amphitheater will accommodate 4,000 to 5,000 people and will be the official home for Lexington Philharmonic’s much loved summer performance Picnic with the Pops. If everything proceeds according to schedule this event could well be the park’s inaugural one in 2025.
“Urban parks are very different to neighborhood parks or even suburban parks,” said Ann. “There is a very different feel and there is typically much more active programming taking place. There will be some passive space, but it will be a highly programmed, high-energy park. An active park is a safe park,” Ann said almost in anticipation of the next question.
Although the park will not be locked at night, many events are anticipated in the evenings, the 10 acres of public space will be well lit and patrolled by private security. Park signs will be pictorial in consideration of the over 200 languages spoken in Lexington’s diverse community. So much has been thought through to the finest of detail.
Equally exciting is that the park will feature the famed namesake Town Branch Creek. “It’s the only place in Downtown Lexington where the creek is going to be opened up, it will be 24 feet wide and spectacular” said Ann who sounds almost giddy with delight at the idea.

“Being involved in this project has really been a blessing for me,” said Ann. “This community has been so good to me and my family. I mean my dad started our company in 1948 so we’ve been around a long time. Now I have an opportunity to be involved and play a small role in such a project that’s going to be around for generations to come. This is what I was looking for. This is my next chapter in life. I’ve done the business part and now I’m doing what I’m passionate about and giving back to my community. That’s been very important to me,” Ann said spoken with philanthropic sincerity and generosity of spirit.
Yes, indeed this is the home stretch Lexington, the finish line is in sight, and all bets are on Ann Bakhaus.

            Ask Abby Vaughn
          IS 2023 ANOTHER 2008?
HI ABBY: There’s been a lot of buzz this Spring about bank failures. It’s scary how companies that have been around for years could collapse in a few days. I can’t help but think this sounds like 2008 and I just wanted to ask, are financial institutions secure? How does this impact your firm specifically?

    —INSECURE IAN
HI IAN: Thanks for asking this question! I’m sure many are wondering the same thing after reading all the headlines. First, I want to say that your concerns are valid. I also want to assure you that this is very different from 2008. We’ve had a number of post-crisis reforms put in place that have strengthened our financial system over the last 15 years. Let’s take a look at a few things that contributed to recent headlines and some key items to look at when it comes to financial institutions.
It’s important to note that depository institutions, such as those in the news, are
financial institutions that accept deposits from customers and use those funds to make loans and investments. Non-depository institutions, such as American Trust Wealth, do not accept deposits but instead provide fiduciary services such as investment management and trust services. Assets held in custody and trust at American Trust Wealth are completely segregated, meaning client assets are always available, and the financial strength of American Trust Wealth is not affected by any level of customer asset withdrawals.
In addition, our fiduciary oversight and compliance measures are extensive. We are examined routinely with independent annual audits and our investment management practices are examined by the Center for Fiduciary Excellence (CEFEX) for fiduciary best practices to ensure complete transparency and protection for your assets.

We are committed to providing the highest standards of fiduciary protection and transparency in all our operations. Reach out to us to find out more ways to safeguard your assets.
          —ABBY V.

American Trust Wealth is headquartered in Lexington, KY and a legal duty of dedication and best practices, so that you can rest assured knowing that your goals will always be our goals.

by a group that originally included fashion designer and community activist Soreyda Benedit Begley, The Lexington Fashion Collaborative was, and still is, a grassroots organization that encourages and provides opportunities for upcoming designers to showcase their creations, increases awareness, and offers education for the fashion community. The Collaborative grew out of the recognized need for a local support group as well as a space to independently develop and share unique creative ideas in a world where retail and mass production of clothing dominate the marketplace.

Designers, models, photographers, makeup artists, stylists, and other community partners came together to create the first Future of Fashion show in Lexington in May of 2009. In 2013, they decided to broaden their scope and become a statewide event, and so changed the name to Kentucky Fashion Week. And since then, until the year before COVID struck, it has been produced annually.
“Even though people don’t associate Kentucky with fashion, we have one of, if not THE major fashion events in the country, and that is, of course, the Derby,” said Edd Mackey, who has been involved with the organization since its inception, and although - he is quick to stress – he isn’t a designer, is passionate about the mission and sees himself as an incredible organizer. Not wishing to be perceived purely as a self-serving group of fashion designers and creatives – and eager to stay relevant and connected – over the years, the Collaborative has taken on several community projects. One of these was an installation of commemorative and interactive wayfinding markers along the entire 12 miles of the Legacy Trail that provide information about the 15 winning Kentucky Derby African American jockeys. Although at first glance this project may seem disconnected from the world of fashion design, it was in fact inspired by a fashion show during a Juneteenth event at Cemetery #2 where models had portrayed these jockeys and created the segue for this Legacy Trail project. “In the long run,” said Mackey, “we realized we couldn’t just do fashion shows, that we needed to reach out and do some things that were more sustainable, that would benefit the community, but at the same time keep our focus.”

The Lexington Fashion Collaborative has provided the presenters at the Lexington Music Awards, which is now in its eighth season. These models, all members of the Collaborative, appear on stage in full-length gowns and tuxedos. The gowns are all original, locally designed creations. “The audience really loves this because it brings a sense of style, excitement and creativity just like the Oscar gala,” Mackey said.
Everyone involved in the Collaborative is “involved from the heart,” said Mackey, and this is his way of explaining the passion that exists within the group members, all of whom are volunteers.

Several of the Collaborative designers have gone on to great success, having spent time incubating with this organization. Mackey cites Chandra Peyton from Louisville, who now has her own fashion house, House of Dauphine Couture. She has shown her fashion lines in New York and Paris, and fourth-generation Lexington seamstress Samantha Jean Moore who is a full-time fabric collage artist and multimedia producer. Moore uses found objects, vintage fabric, discarded

But with an eye to the future, the Collaborative has realized that in order to get Kentucky Fashion Week back on its feet, they would need the help of another entity who could give it their full attention. As a result, they have teamed up with Lexington’s fashion house Albert Couture and licensed them to produce Kentucky Fashion Week - but still within the guideline of the LFC. For the time being, Albert Couture is focused on opening their second location in the new boutique hotel The Manchester, but once settled in, it is there that they plan to revive and produce Kentucky Fashion Week in 2024. “Not with just female models,” said Mackey, “men wear clothes too, and my goodness, some of them are serious shopaholics.”
“Although we are a small grassroots organization, we want people to know that there have been some significant fashion moments for Kentucky,” said Mackey. “We couldn’t be more excited about working with Albert Couture and having the opportunity for the Collaborative to present a Lexington/Kentucky line of fashion every year. •

            The Russell Influence

Former Kentucky track standout Chloe Abbott still remembers what it was like when Abby Steiner and Masai Russell got to Kentucky during her junior season. She ran on a relay with the two freshmen and loved spending time with them.
“Those are my girls. I still keep up and talk with them,” Abbott, who is now a professional runner and is also competing on NBCTV’s “The Voice” this season, said. “I remember when they were freshmen talking to me about dreaming of winning a NCAA or SEC title. Those were huge goals for Masai and breaking records was not something she even talked about. Now she has arrived and knows there is still more to go get.”
Russell, a fifth-year UK senior, arrived in a big way this season when she broke the collegiate record for the 60-meter indoor hurdles Jan. 20 in Lubbock, Texas, with a time of 7.75 seconds (the previous mark was 7.78). The UK record was 7.87 by Keni Harrison, an eventual Olympic medalist, in 2015 when she won the NCAA championship. She won gold at the SEC Indoor Championship in 7.77 seconds to give her the top two collegiate times in the 60 hurdles and was second in the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Russell, already an 11-time All-American, is on the watch list for The Bowerman, the top award in track and field, that Steiner won during her remarkable 2022 season at UK. She started the outdoor season by finishing the 100-meter hurdles in 12.36 seconds to break the collegiate record set by Brianna Rollins eight years ago. Russell did ballet/gymnastics like a lot of young girls do before she tried track at age 8 and she was hooked. “It’s the only sport I have done competitively my whole life. Actually, track is my life,” Russell said.

She was an eight-time national champion in high school in Maryland who verbally committed to Texas A&M only to have her scholarship offer pulled one day before national signing day. She signed with Tennessee mainly because of assistant coach Tim Hall. When he left for Kentucky, she came to Kentucky without ever making a visit. “It ended up being one of the best decisions of my life,” Russell said.
Russell is a social media superstar with 192,000 followers one Instagram along with 480,000 followers on TikTok. Her YouTube channel has 29,000 subscribers. “None of that was ever really planned,” Russell said. “I think it was just meant to be. I love what I do on and off the track.”

“Social media is just a part of my life. That is who I am. I did get into trouble early recording some things I shouldn’t have. My parents have always told me once you put something out there you can’t take it back. I decided to take a clean route (with social media postings). I want people to know who I am as an athlete and as an influencer.”
She even had a yearlong partnership with WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) and went to the company’s performance center in Arizona. She’s still in contact with WWE employees. She even got a “shout out” from WWE retired superstar Triple H, a Hall of Fame and 14-time world champion.
“WWE was something to think about and sounded cool at the time but at this point in my career I don’t see myself doing that,” she said. “It’s not like I had a free pass into WWE but the NIL program with them would bump me up in auditions if I did decide to try that route.
“But right now it is all about track because I truly believe I have a lot more to give and a lot more to do.”
