Restaurant aleje3 located within the National Museum in Warsaw is not only a new culinary landmark in the center of the city, but one which stimulates the artistic appetite as well. With its minimalist interiors and walls decorated by the subtle works of John Dobkowski the famous contemporary Polish artist, and with its location within the prestigious museum, the expectation for something special to arrive from the kitchen becomes elevated as well! This is absolutely the case with a creative menu that features classic dishes from varied cultures suffused with Polish accents; the steak tartar served with baked potatoes and mixed green salad; baked salmon served on romaine lettuce with prawn sauce; and the chicken breast served with Dijon mustard sauce are all outstanding. And desserts such as the meringue with mascarpone become the exclamation point for a terrific dining experience!

AleGloria Restaurant Plac Trzech KrzyĹźy 3 Warsaw 00-535 phone: +48 22 584 7080 www.alegloria.pl
If one was ever in the need to suffuse romance into life, a visit to AleGloria would be very much in order! The bright interiors are the tasteful amalgamation of cream and strawberry, appeal of candle light, polished wood, and gleaming white laced table linen embellished with flowers. Famous restaurateur Magda Gessler is at the helm of affairs; her insights, her creativity, her culinary design, have made this place one of a kind where she has taken Polish cuisine to a new dimension. Tradition has been fused with modern ideas; the otherwise staple beetroot soup, barszcz, is elevated here multiple degrees with raspberry vinegar, black currant syrup, and served with white bean filled ravioli! With a vast selection of wine from its cellars, and an extensive selection of drinks, AleGloria is indeed Polish hospitality at its modern-day finest. An experience in a monumental setting!
AKADEMIA SMAKU NAZWA RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
Located in Warsaw’s center, Akademia Smaku emanates its own culinary “education” informing guests on what excellent Polish cuisine is all about. The name which translates to “academy of flavors” is appropriate; indeed in its impeccable interiors, one is exposed to an impressive array of Polish flavors. The menu truly delights with its high level of authenticity, quality, and freshness. Items such as the scallops with chorizo and broad beans; duck with soba pasta and seaweed salad; classical beef sirloin steak with pepper sauce, fries, and arugula; the halibut with parsnip, capers and croutons; and for dessert , cheese cake with chocolate sauce, are all excellent. With impeccable service, Akademia Smaku isa wonderful part of Warsaw’s culinary curriculum!

NAZWA A. BLIKLE RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
A. Blikle Restaurant Nowy Świat 33 Warsaw 00-029 phone: +48 22 826 64 50 www.blikle.pl
If there is a famous Polish cafe that defines history then one needs to visit. A.Blikle, in existence since 1869. Nowadays, more of a café cum brasserie, this institution which has been run by the Blikle family for five generations offers a synthesis between Polish and French cuisine. While its “café aspect” needs no introduction with its wide spectrum of offerings – desserts, famous donuts, cheesecake with raspberry, fine coffees and teas, its brasserie is demonstrating the same sense in its food offering. The mushroom soup with dumplings: the wheat and buckwheat pancakes served with salmon, caviar, or herring; duck in various recipe formulations and the St. Jacob mussels are good selections. Breakfast served all day. A.Blikle always lives up to a quality experience.
BISTRO WARSZAWA NAZWA RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
Bistro Warszawa, located in the Old Town’s Main Square has clearly met its uniquely positive objectives very well indeed. These include being a place not falsely laden with “oldness” as are most in this area, instead being a modern venue with a bistro-like feel serving outstanding Polish fare which may also qualify as fine international cuisine! The menu includes excellent items such as the duck breast served with cucumber, mango and pomegranate; and the homemade pierogi stuffed with goose confit served with raspberry sauce. This place satisfies at all levels—refreshing interiors spread over a large space, an outstanding terrace on the Square, friendly service, and besides a terrific menu a lovely stockpile of wine, drinks, and innovative cocktails. Live music on occasion, makes this place a true event of going out with friends, family, or business colleagues!

The word brasserie implies a relaxed, upscale setting, professional service, white linen, a simple yet comprehensive menu. Brasserie Warszawska is of course more than that, and is reflective of the combined traditions of Warsaw and Paris, suffused perhaps with elements of the new European modernity. The dishes on the menu, such as the beef fillet with dauphine potatoes and spinach, emphasize simplicity; yet simultaneously reinforce the focus on quality of ingredients, methods of preparation, elegance of appearance, and heavenly flavors. The staff here is passionate about what they do; there is an implied guarantee of service and genuine hospitality. The restaurant has an outstanding bar with original-design stools, champagne and fine cocktails; there is a private room ideal for groups of 12 to 24 guests as well. Brasserie Warszawska is surely an uptick on Warsaw’s culinary map!
BUTCHERY & WINE RESTAURANT
Butchery & Wine has become the only restaurant in Poland to be awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand, which implies good value for money and which represents a favorite of the Michelin Guides. Speaking to owner Daniel Pawelek it is abundantly clear that his objective is for Butchery & Wine to be known as a place in Warsaw’s center where guests can enjoy outstanding food from a thankfully short menu—this aspect is extremely uncommon and intelligent. Appetizers and dishes such as the roast bone marrow, a classic; seared scallops with boudin noir; Bavette steak with shallots; and cote de boeuf, are all outstanding, perhaps to be followed by dessert such as the spiced pear and apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream. A comprehensive wine list, and friendly service make Butchery & Wine a top selection!

Café Bristol Krakowskie Przedmieście 42/44 Warsaw 00-325 phone: +48 22 551 18 28 firstname.lastname@example.org www.lemeridien.pl www.cafebristol.pl
The legendary Café Bristol, situated in the very heart of the city, is an integral part of Le Meridien Bristol Hotel. For years a favorite meeting place for both Warsaw’s visitors and its locals, it has welcomed patrons since 1901. With interiors styled in Viennese elegance, this is the place where one can enjoy outstanding coffee and desserts from its own in-house bakery throughout the year. The menu changes with the seasons; late autumn-early winter is a time for the stuff of Polish orchards, so cakes with apples, plums and pears are outstanding, as well as there is a greater an emphasis on salads, fruits, and light meats. No surprise therefore that this place has come to be a place where social and business meetings always go well! Note: Breakfast starts at 8 am, and in December, Christmas dishes will be available for takeout.
CASA NAZWA PABLO RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
Casa Pablo is redefining the idea of Spanish cuisine in Warsaw. In a non-clichéd setting - vintage, inspired, composed of objects and furniture from Spain - creative Spanish cuisine is served under the watchful eye of owner Pablo Martin Delgado. While not a traditional Spanish restaurant, dishes are prepared using Spanish techniques and products flown in from the country. Culinary creativity is reflected in items such as the homemade foie gras coated with toasted kikos, served with fig compote and raspberry pebbles or the duck breast burger served with sansho ko pepper caramelized onions, mahon cheese, arugula, raspberry ketchup and truffle mayonnaise. An outstanding bar reflects the culture of Spain, and the space exudes a warmth that appeals to a wide range of customers - couples seeking a romantic evening, business-folk, as well as those seeking a chic place to have dinner or drinks with friends.

CZERWONY WIEPRZ NAZWA RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
The last secrets of communist cuisine
Czerwony Wieprz, or the Red Hog was in its historical past a restaurant for the communist party elite, where surrounded by chandeliers, portraits, and flags, once feasted the likes of Lenin, Breżnev, Fidel Castro, and Mao Tse Tung! The walls are replete with portraits of old communists, and the dishes have names such as Delicacies of the Polish People’s Republic, a selection of pate, luncheon meat, blood sausage, and kielbasa; varied pierogi “made from rationed flour”; and Baltic herring and game pate for the “Dignitaries and Bourgeoisie”. This is Polish cuisine in fact at its very best, with main dishes that are outstanding--examples include the oven roasted duck, served with cherry sauce, roasted apple, and beetroot. The restaurant’s fame continually attracts celebrity guests; important government leaders, various sports personalities, and you!

The menu emphasizes wholesome authenticity—the chicken soup with homemade noodles; roast duck with apples and potato pancakes; and the cheesecake made with cottage cheese— all evoke love at first bite! During the summer, the place accommodates as many as 300 guests, in its main space, two VIP rooms, a large courtyard, and front terrace on Nowy Swiat itself. FOLK GOSPODA RESTAURANT
Polish village in the heart of city
The word Gospoda means “inn” and Folk Gospoda is one of the oldest and more treasured restaurants in Warsaw with a history going back to the 18th century. Having won numerous awards for its traditional Polish cuisine, within its warmly illumined, rustic interiors the mind is most definitely transported to a rural Polish setting. The menu of course is replete with country wholesomeness with the use of fresh and local produce, confectionery, and even home-baked bread. Appetizers such as highlanders’ style oscypek, or smoked sheep’s cheese from the Polish mountains, served with cranberry; pierogi with various fillings; dishes made with wild game; the roasted pork with garlic and plums, are all true to their flavorful traditions. Guests from all walks of life and parts of the globe are often here, to a place which delivers tradition, wonderful food, and great fun!

HOZA RESTO & WINOBAR
Warsaw’s culinary trajectory has definitely lifted with Hoza By Mondovino, a restaurant opened by Margaret and Tom Budyta in partnership with Chef and Warsaw’s fine-meat purveyor, Martin Gimenez Castro. This trio has created a special place in the city’s heart in a 1900 building which miraculously survived the war; this is an ambience encouraged by exposed brick walls, industrial period lamps, and befitting artwork. This place indeed reflects the historical bearings of the city combining it with young, casual trends, and the sound of Latin jazz! Martin serves Argentine-style steaks and super-fresh seafood complemented by a collection of over 150 wine labels stocked in its cellar. Spread over four rooms, a bar with over 40 whiskeys, a club room, and a delightful private room for up to 10 guests; the place also has its own garden and parking in the inner courtyard. An outstanding venue where positive energy and friendly service make the culinary delights even more so!

The sweet-to-the-ear term “cheese monger seems a little quaint, but how wonderful indeed for Warsaw to have one! Welcome to La Fromagerie--a cheese, and fine foods and wine retailer located in a must-visit location at Burakowska Street, once the site of an old lace factory. Offering top quality cheese produced by small, artisanal producers in England, France, and from other countries, one finds adorning the shelves here items such as Italian Parma Ham, Spanish Chorizo, French sausages and other gourmet specialties. With a seating area guests can savor both the products, aromas, and the ambience here. This is indeed an original idea for a casual meeting; a working breakfast here, for example, would be ideal. With its own gourmet coffee blends and a selection of freshly baked baguettes and croissants directly from the oven, La Fromagerie delights on several levels!
LECKER RESTAURANT & WINESHOP

With the menu changing each week, this is indeed a thoughtful combination of food and wine coming together in a harmonious manner. The salient fact about Lebanese cuisine is that it is truly Mediterranean, with healthful ingredients and preparations that emphasize the use of fresh ingredients. Le Cedre is the only Lebanese purveyor in Poland of its class, with a 16-year history at Aleja Solidarności 61. Offering a diversity of flavors--cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, and mint--one can actually get a fine sense of Lebanon’s culinary traditions here. Le Cedre is not only a place for a delicious cuisine but also which offers a virtual excursion to a resort country--a large collection of Lebanese wines, original interior design, and Arabic music in the background, all contribute immensely to the feeling! What matters here ultimately is that the food is absolutely top in its composition, immensely healthful and refreshing, and served in a traditional setting which completes this Lebanese experience.
LE CEDRE NAZWA 84 RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
Le Cedre, the only Lebanese purveyor in town, now has a newer branch at Aleja Solidarności 84, which is located closer to the city center. No surprise therefore that this newer venue is a favorite place for discussing business over lunch for the city’s corporate bigwigs, dinner with family, or simply partying with friends! Lebanese cuisine is indeed a symbol of its people’s hospitality, where nothing strengthens the human bond more than eating together. This refined Mediterranean cuisine delights and refreshes with its healthful ingredients, the menu here replete with Lebanese classics such as an array of cold and warm mezze. With Lebanese wines on the menu, ingredients flown in from Lebanon, Le Cedre 84 is a class act through and through!

Warsaw restaurateurs Agnieszka and Marcin Kręglicki have produced yet another masterpiece of a restaurant in the form of Opasły Tom under the stewardship of master chef Agata Wojda. This impressive history is now well inherited by this new incarnation where an evolved menu is served based on Polish “Slow Food” products. Items such as the cream of celery with white chocolate and Bursztyn cheese; pumpkin cream soup with sliced oscypek cheese; the duck leg confit served on a bed of black currant sauce with baked potato tart; and desserts such as the pear in chocolate cake with sorbet on the side, are all innovative and overflowing with flavors. And a quick and informed wait staff make the experience all the more positive!

The time frame begins in 1947, the moment of intense cultural exchange, and ends in 1959 at the height of the thawera. The context is the changing political map of the world, freshly emerged from the disaster of World War II, now confronted by nuclear crisis. The dynamics of those changes are driven by East-West rivalry over influence in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. On the one hand, the colonial system is collapsing while, on the other, the Soviet Union pusruses a policy of colonization in both its own republics and in the satellite countries that have found themselves in its sphere.
