Whataprivilegeitistoservethis church!Ihaveafreshappreciation ofPaul’sloveforthoseheserved ashewroteintheopeningof Colossians:Ihaveseen“yourfaith inChristJesusandtheloveyou haveforallGod’speople…”for “thegospelisbearingfruitand growingthroughoutthewhole world—justasithasbeendoing amongyousincethedayyou hearditandtrulyunderstood God’sgrace”(Col1:4,6).

Whatayear!Ilovetherealnessof sharinginthegospelanddoing lifewithyou.Whiletheresidual effectsofthelastcoupleofyears linger,ithasbeenofgreat encouragementtohaveregularly gatheredwithsuchjoyanda desiretoserveandgrow.Godhas beendoingagreatworkoffilling usuptooverflowinganditisajoy tomeetonSundaysandin between.Iamexcitedfornext yearandcanseethatthereis

muchopportunitywith,God willing,anewfulltimeAssistant Minister,newStudentMinisters anddirectionsthatGodhasbeen showingustogethertofocusour energies.Allthisis,ofcourse, underGod.Wehavelearntover theselastfewyearsthatour prayerfulplansreallydohappen only“iftheLordwills”,forwedo notknowwhattomorrowbrings. ButwhatwedoknowisthatJesus isLordovertomorrowandHeis preparinggoodworksforusto do!

Thegrace ofJesusunitesandtransformsustoworshipGodwholeheartedly, loveeachotherdeeplyandserveourcommunityboldly. 264adultsand144youthandchildrencurrentlycallTAC home. AugustandSeptemberhavebeenourbusiest monthsfor visitors thisyear,withmost newcomersatthe10.45amservice. Overthepastyear,morethan100peoplehave checkedoutTACandmorethan30havedecidedto callTAChome. Aquicksnapshot 72%ofouradultmembers areina GrowthGroup. 61%ofouradultandyouth membersare serving. TOONGABBIE ANGLICAN CHURCH

Howdowemobilise themission?

AsdisciplesofJesuswe seektoserveHimand others.Wehaveallbeen giftedinvariouswaysand calledintounityasweuse thediversityofourgifts. Weorganiseourselvesby various“portfolios”thatwe believehelpclarifydifferent aspectsofbeingthe

church.Someoftheseare expressedin congregationallife,others morebroadly.Wehopeit helpsyoubothbeserved bytheministryofTAC,as wellasseevariouswaysto expressyourpartinthelife ofTAC.

Thisyear,ithasbeen incredibletoseetheSpiritof Godatworkintheheartsof manybyHisword.Weran boththeHopeExploredand ChristianityExploredseries. Throughouttheyear,ten peoplemadeitalongtoour evangelisticcourses.Wegive Godthanksforeveryperson whoHehassentourwayand yetwecontinuetohavea greatlongingformanymore fromourareatocomeand hearthemessageofChrist andbebroughtfromdeathto life.GivethankstoGodthat therehavebeenpeoplewho havecometotrustinJesusin thepastyear!

Oneofthegreathighlightsof ouryearwasMissionMarch!It wassuchagreatopportunity tospendtimefocusingon

whatGodisdoingoutsideof ourownbackyard.Wegotto hearfromourMission Partners–SamandEmilyLoaFerreiraservinginPortugal andRyanandLynneVerghese abouttoserveinSeychelles–andabouttheworkof Compassion,particularlyin thePhilippines.Laterthisyear wealsoformallypartnered withourownTACmember, GeoffWong,ashereaches manywiththegospelthrough hisworkatGlobalRecordings Network(GRN).Mission Marchwasawonderfulshot ofenergyforustokeepcaring andprayingforourpartners. Hearingfromourpartners alsogivesusagreater boldnessintakingthenext stepinsharingJesuswiththe peopleweknow.

Wheneverwegatherwewantto MAGNIFYHim.Weworshipan extraordinaryGod-ourLord andSaviourJesuswhohas madeknowntoustheFatherin thepoweroftheSpirit(Eph 1.17).Wearedrawnintothelife ofGodandwe,together,are builtupinHim(Eph2:19-22).It’s aprofoundthingtoconsider whatGodisdoinginusand throughuswhenwegather. Thisispartofwhatwemean whenwesay‘ordinarypeople encounteringtheextraordinary God’. Thisyearwehavesoughttogive expressiontoallthisina numberofways.Ithasbeen especiallyrichtodosohaving hadourcorporategatherings andfellowshipsodisruptedin pastyearsandyet…westarted thisyearacknowledgingthat,in ourweakness,God’sstrengthis madeperfect(2Cor12:9)! WhenwecametoTACin early2016,wewere withoutahomechurch,so wewerejustcheckingout TAC.Imustsaywefelt verymuchathome, especiallyconsideringwe don'tcomefroman Anglicanbackground. Duringamissionmontha fewyearsback,wewere challengedtousetheHoly Spirit'sgivengiftsin church.Inmycase,this

wassinging. Thisfeltlike startingfromthebottom up;nobodyinthemusic ministryreallyknewme.I havenowbeendoingitfor years.Iamgratefulforthe opportunitygiven,towork withagroupoftalented andcommittedmusicians ofdifferentagesand backgrounds,whosemain purposeistoglorifyGod.

We’vereflectedonhowthis helpsuswelcomeothersto ourgatheringstobelonghere, asmembersofthisfamily.We arestillsomewhatinour infancyasateam,andweare hopingtobuildonthissolid foundationforyearstocome. Givethanksforthereadiness ofourMembershipTeamto serveandbeequippedin servingandforsystemsof follow-up,whichhavebetter allowedustocareformany. thisyear,withover30adults pluskidscomingalong.Ithas beenwonderfulseeingmany differentpeoplefromour churchpitchinconsistentlyto showcaretothosewhoare new.Anencouragementfor ourteamhasbeenthe consistentlypositivefeedback fromnewpeople.Manyhave sharedhowtheyweregladly engaged,encouragedand rememberedonaSunday.

Aminataisanewishperson aroundTACwhorecently sharedherexperienceof comingalongtoourchurch ataWelcomeLunch.Witha beamingsmile,sheshared ofthewelcomeshehad receivedfromstrangers. Therewasalotgoingonin herlifeatthetimeandshe wasquiteunsurewhatshe waswalkinginto.Asshe

heardthe gospel,therewas agreatsenseofrelief,a feelingofhopeandasense ofhome.AmemberofTAC hadaprofoundimpacton Aminata;sherecallshow shechattedwithhereach week,prayedwithherinher strugglesandgladlyhadher overforlunchafterthe service.

I’mthankfulforthemany opportunitiesweallhavenot onlytoprovide‘care’,butin caring,bringthewordofGod intopeople’slives.Ihaveseen peoplewelcomedin,andthe gospelhasbeenabletobe wiselyshared.Someofthe thingsthattheCareTeamhas beeninvolvedinoverthelast yearinclude:providing transport,cleaning,meals, contactingpeoplewhoarenot well,homeandhospitalvisits, runningserviceswithinaged carefacilities,providingadvice andfoodforthoseinneed,etc.

AsIwriteagainaboutthe ChristianCareTeam,Iamagain confrontedwiththefactthat ChristianCareisnotforthe‘few’ butforthe‘all’.Itisa demonstrationofthelifethat wehavereceivedfromGod. Thisisthebeautyandrhythmof genuineChristianfellowship.Of course,theprimaryplaceof

carenaturallyhappensthrough ourGrowthGroups,aswe connectandshareourlives. I'venotmademuchofthe ChristianCareTeamduringmy timehere,becauseIdon'twant ustothink,‘it'snotmyjobto care’,orit's‘someoneelse’sjob tocare’.Thatsaid,thereare timeswhenwerunoutof steam,orstruggletocareas wewouldlike.TheChristian CareTeam,aswellasawider circleofhelpers,aremembers ofthechurchwhoarekeento supportothers.Theydothis, notjustinapracticalways,but alsobystrengtheningothersin theirwalkwithJesusthrough theupsanddownsoflife,by beingtherewiththemintimes ofstruggle,andministering God’swordtothem.

Godcontinuestobeso gracioustoTAC,working throughthegiftsHehasgiven manyinourchurchfamilyso thatwecanbuildeachother upinmaturityinChrist.Aswe seektobea‘familyonmission’ toreachourcommunityand worldwiththegoodnewsof Jesus,avitalbuildingblockis continuingtogrowinmaturity anddepthofknowingGod throughWord,prayerand fellowship.Wehaveseen manyexamplesofGod workinginthiswayinthepast year. OurGrowthGroupshave continuedtoprovide opportunitiestogather aroundGod’sword,careand prayforeachother,andshare lifetogether.I’mverythankful forourdedicatedteamof leadersandthemanygroup membersthatmakeour

groupsasuccess.Ifyouare notpartofagroup,I encourageyoutoconsider becominginvolved. Wecanalsobeverythankful forthegiftofprayerthatGod sofreelygivesusand encouragesustouse!Earlier intheyear24-HoursofPrayer wasagreatencouragementto bringeverythingbeforeGod. TherecentPrayerandPraise Nightwasanotherreminderof howmuchwehavetobe thankfulfor,andhow dependentweareonGodin prayer.I’mthankfulforthe PrayerSupportTeamwho havebeenworkingbehindthe scenestospurusoninall sortsofwaystopray–prayer events,PrayerMateprayer feed,weeklyprayeremail…We areasmallbutenthusiastic teamandwewouldvaluea fewmoremembers!

Thewordsministryand ministercomefromthewords forservingandservant. Ministryisjustusordinary peoplecaringforotherordinary peopleasweserveand encountertheextraordinary Godtogether.AtTAC,ouraimis toempoweryoutouseyour God-givengiftstoserveothers, bothinourchurchandthe broadercommunity. Ourchurchbuildingisfirstand foremostus–thepeopleGod hasgatheredtodwellamongst! Whataprivilegethatis. Hehasbeengatheringmany andovermanyyears,youhave seenthisandtheneedtobuild aphysicalbuildingtoenable thechurchtokeepgrowing!Itis along,slowprocess,with momentsofexcitementaswe glimpsewhatmightbepossible.
