Outreach – Working with local rough sleepers to build trust and offer access to any services needed – with a focus on bringing people into safe and stable accommodation. The Elms – A 44-bed hostel providing emergency and short-term accommodation to single, homeless adults. Crash Pad – Emergency overnight accommodation offered to people when we are unable to accommodate them immediately at The Elms. Move On – Providing support for The Elms residents into more independent living in shared accommodation. Resettlement – Supporting clients moving from The Elms or Move On into council, social housing, or private rental. Scott and Ferg’s 250th Game Scott and Ferg’s 250th game in charge was last week. So we would like to thank them for what they have done for the club, and for their continuing efforts to bring the club as far as they can. Dan caught up with Scott after the game and asked him some questions about the time they have been with the club. Q - Your first competitive game in charge was a 1–0 FA Cup defeat away at Stanway Rovers back in August 2021. If you could go back to that dressing room before kick-off, what would you tell yourselves knowing what the next 249 games would bring? A - I would say to trust in the process that we believed we could create from the first training session. Accept the lows and don’t get too exuberant with the highs. Q- When you took the job, did either of you genuinely believe you’d still be here 250 competitive games later? A - I definitely didn’t expect to be anywhere near 250 games. When we first joined we invited all season before squad to pre-season. And from senior players only Dan Weeks actually stayed to give us a chance. Q - Looking back at the club you inherited compared with the Leverstock Green FC of today, what do you think has changed the most? A - ⁠Well the first thing we insisted on was that the bar stays open past 5.30 on a Saturday. We made a conscious effort to make sure

that any player we signed would buy into creating a club environment that everyone can enjoy. That’s committee members, supporters and players. Q- You’ve had some incredible days at the club. If you had to pick one single moment from the first 249 games that stands above everything else, what would it be, and why? A - ⁠That’s an easy one. The play off Final. To have 1000 supporters in Pancake lane. The work everyone had to do in a few days to play the final was amazing and probably something the club will never do again. Then for the players to play the way they did in the final was just incredible. Q - And on the flip side, what has been the toughest moment you’ve experienced as managers? A - ⁠Probably last pre season. After staying at step 4 on last game of the season we hoped that players would want to return and push on the following season. This was not how it happened. We only had a few players willing to stay. Recruiting was hard due to financial constraints. Every player we approached thinks we are step 4 and loads of money like everyone else in the division. What know realised was we got promoted on no budget and stayed up on £15 a week per player. Credit must go to the group of players that stayed because result was hard to come by but they stuck at it and trusted us as staff to get players in and turn it around. Q - Last season saw the club achieve its highest-ever league finish. What did that achievement mean to you personally? A - Finishing in the clubs highest ever position of 12th at step 4 was just unbelievable. As I said last pre season was tough and then to think we entered the bottom 4 of the league around about Xmas. To

then finish 12th. All credit players who stayed and the new recruits we managed to get in. Ferg’s little black book and Aaron’s constant messaging of players really did the trick. Q - You’ve been side-by-side for 250 games. What do you think is the biggest strength of your partnership and what does the other one do that drives you absolutely mad? A- ⁠I would say our biggest strength is that we both hate losing and are passionate about football. We don’t always see eye to eye. Neither of us are yes men. We would say our point on selection of team and tactics and then between us go with what we think is best for the team for that game. As for drive me mad it has to be Ferg on the sidelines. Doesn’t matter if he is praising a player or having a go at them. It’s always in a tone that feels it’s more having a go. There is no difference. I’m sure the players always think he is having a go. Oh also when Ferg decides to show everyone his lucky Paddy power pants. Thats a sight no one needs to see. Q - When your time at Leverstock Green eventually comes to an end, what do you hope people will say about Scott and Fergie’s time in charge? A - As for after we go you hope that supporters and club staff will see that we created that environment we promised in the interview. A club everyone can be proud of. That we also achieved promotion and cup wins during our time with memories for everyone associated with the club. The truth is what people say will not bother me at all. As it will probably mean we have been sacked so people will think that we deserved to go as results not good enough.

Visiting Club History:

The Club was founded in 1892 and although first called Ware Town soon changed its name to plain Ware FC. This unassuming title makes it probably the shortest named affiliate of the Football Association and has caused problems for programme editors and journalists ever since. In fact, the Club has been anything but unassuming. It has held senior status from its very beginning, entering the Herts Senior Cup for the first time in 1893, and winning the cup on the first of five occasions in 1899 with a 2-1 win over Hitchin at St Albans. By this time Ware had been instrumental in founding the East Herts League and had won its championship on two of the three times it had been competed for. The club was to win it five more times before moving on to the North Middlesex League in 1907 and then also to the Herts County League in 1908. The Championship of the latter came that season in a three-way play-off against St Albans City and Welwyn. After the First World War the Club gained a league and cup double with a second Herts County League Championship and a fourth Herts Senior Cup win in 1922. The scenes in Ware when the team returned with the Senior Cup tell us something about the hold that football had on local loyalties at the time. The local paper reported that "Large crowds awaited the return of the special train to Ware, everybody being in high spirits. The Cup was marched through the town in front of a cheering throng." Indeed, it was later recalled that the cup was taken through the town on subsequent nights and that stops were made outside public houses where it was charged with beer before being drained by the crowd. Shortly after this Ware joined the Spartan League in which they were to enjoy several successes, winning the Division 2(B) Championship in 1926, Division 1 in 1951 with the highest "goals for" total ever achieved by a club in the Spartan League, and the Premier Division in 1952. In these later years the Club also made significant progress in the old Amateur Cup meeting many famous sides on the way. One of these was Hendon, against whom Ware drew their largest attendance of 3,800 in the 1st Round in January 1957.

Moving on to the Delphian and then Athenian League, Ware enjoyed another successful period. Two promotions, two league cup wins and two reserve championships paved the way for progress in the FA Cup. In this Ware reached the First Round proper for the first time in 1968 when they travelled to the then Third Division side Luton Town. The opposition had a 100% home record but the game was scoreless with 30 minutes to go before a judicious substitution broke the stalemate and left Ware beaten 6-1 at the final whistle. In these successful circumstances it was not surprising that Ware pressed for entry to the expanding Isthmian League. This was achieved for season 1975/76 and they have maintained their place at that level ever since. This is thanks most recently to their Division 2 Championship season of 2005/6 under manager Glen Alzapiedi which carried them into Division 1 just before Division 2 was disbanded. Alzapiedi's side brought further distinction with another FA Cup First Round appearance in 2007 which saw a narrow home defeat against Kidderminster Harriers in front of 2,123 spectators, a record for the current ground at Wodson Park. Before that a tenth Herts Senior Cup Final in 2001 and another in 2008 have emphasised the club's long history and continuity. Ware is the first of only three possible candidates to appear in this final in three separate centuries, evidence that it is still one of the county's leading clubs. Paul Halsey Ware Manager: Paul started in management as the goal keeper coach at Ware in 2007 before graduating to team manager two years later. He moved on to the assistant manager’s role at Billericay Town for the 2011/2012 season when they won the Isthmian League title. Since then he has held the manager’s post at Hoddesdon and then Hertford town before returning to Ware as manager in 2018 when he guided the club to seventh place in the table, its highest in eleven years. By the time the following season was brought to a halt by the Covid outbreak Ware were clear at the top of the Isthmian League Central Division and in each of the two completed seasons since then his sides have reached the play-off final twice and a semi-final in recent seasons.

Reece Beckles-Richards: Striker. Despite only joining Ware after the start of the 2025/6 season Reece went on to make forty appearances for the club, several as captain, and scored 24 league goals to finish as our leading scorer. He has played for several clubs including Woking and Kingstonian though his longest stays have been at Cheshunt and Wingate & Finchley. We are hoping he will continue to make his mark at Ware. Fred Burbidge: Goal keeper. Having originally joined from then Step 3 Hendon for the 2022/3 season Fred made 137 appearances for Ware up to the start of the current campaign. He played in every match of his debut season though injuries interrupted his run in the next two. After a break he returned to Ware in January 2026. Khale Da Costa: Midfielder. Khale is in his second spell for Ware. Having left at the end of the 2015/6 season after making 109 appearances and scoring twelve goals he played for a number of clubs in Kent as well as Enfield Town and most recently Cheshunt. Always a skilful player he is welcomed back to Ware in anticipation of another good season. Rechan Esprit: Midfielder. Rechan is a product of Ware’s youth teams. He made his first team debut in August 2021, scoring in the 5-1 league win over Kidlington. After two seasons away he returned to Ware at the start of last season and has now amassed 104 appearances and has scored fourteen, often spectacular, goals. Leon Theodoropoulos: Forward. A member of last season’s under-18 side Leon made his only appearance from the subs bench in the home victory over MK Irish on 29th November 2025. Max Granvile: Midfielder. Max made his debut on August 10th 2024 against Thame United having previously been a member of the Stevenage academy. He had a good season and the club was pleased to retain him for 2025/6. Unfortunately he had an injury interrupted season and will hope for better fortune in the current campaign which he starts with 80 appearances and one goal. Jack Grosvenor: Team captain and central defender. Debut in January 2024 and soon showed himself to be a fine player. Two significant periods of injury in 2025/6 limited his appearances but he has still achieved a total of 60 games for the club along with four goals. We hope for an injury free season and making it to one hundred appearances this time round.

Josh Hutchinson: Forward. Josh joined Ware just before Christmas in 2025, making his debut in the home game against London Lions. He went on to make 17 appearances and score four goals by the season’s end. Potters Bar figure largely in his CV but he has also played for Billericay and Wealdstone amongst others. Myles John: Defender. Myles started at Enfield Town in 2019 before leaving for sides at Step 5. 2024/5 saw him make 44 appearances for the other Enfield at Step 4. He played against Ware in both league matches scoring in our 1-1 away draw. Myles was captain of Woodford Town in the Essex Senior League last season. Theo Ofori: Wide midfielder. Skilful going forward and committed to tackling back, Theo is tenacious and not easily robbed of the ball. He scored on his debut in November 2022’s 2-0 league win over Berkhamsted. Since then he has accumulated 116 appearances and 52 goals before the start of 2026/7. Jack Taylor: Midfielder. Jack made his debut in the 1-0 win at Flackwell Heath on December 6th, 2025. He had played against us for Enfield earlier in the season and went on to complete 21 appearances for Ware before the end of the season. Josh Okotcha: Defender. Another ever present in Ware’s back four Josh arrived from Enfield Town for the 2024/5 season. He made his debut in the season’s opener on August 10th against Thame United, a 2-3 home defeat. Since then he has made 83 appearances and scored three goals, one of which was the late, late goal in the 5-4 home victory over Stotfold. Jay Rolfe: Defender. Jay made his debut on 12th October 2024 in the 1-1 home draw with Beaconsfield Town since when he has become a trusted member of Paul Halsey’s defence. He hadn’t scored until contributing to April 2026’s win over Flackwell Heath but he did it again three days later in the game at Biggleswade. Jay starts 2026/27 on 62 appearances. Leigh Rose: Midfielder and assistant manager. Leigh may well be concentrating on his management duties this season but is still likely to improve on his 214 appearances and maybe too his 55 goals. He made his debut in the 3-1 league defeat at Cheshunt on New Year’s Day in 2011. Leigh is a survivor of our two more recent play-off finals. Gucci Soulya: Midfielder. Gucci seems to have dropped the Osekanongo part of his surname this season which is a help to reporters. He played his first game for the club in November 2024, coming on as a substitute in the 4-0 league win over North Leigh. He scored his first goal in the next game, a 3-2 win at Kings Langley. He starts the current season on 54 appearances and 12 goals. Finlay Titchmarsh: Full back. Finlay made an immediate impact from his first game at Bedfont Sports in September 2020. Such an impact that he was soon tempted away to Royston Town

having scored one goal in the 6-1 win over Harlow, our final game of a covid disrupted season. He returned via Potters Bar during the 2025/6 season by the end of which he had made 33 appearances. Herbie Townsend: Midfielder. Herbie, a former member of the Ware youth system returned to the club from Hertford in 2025/6 and soon became seemingly indispensable. Unfortunately a shoulder injury dogged him for much of the season and he eventually took time off for surgery. Now fully recovered, he looks forward to better times this season and adding to his 19 appearances and one goal. Gabriel Ward: Full back. Gabe is another former Ware youth member though he arrived in the first team on loan from St Albans City. He made his debut on 29th November in the 3-0 win over Milton Keynes Irish and completed 14 appearances up to the end of 2025/6. Anthony Wordsworth: Midfielder: A product of the Colchester United youth system, Anthony graduated to make 177 appearances in the first team before moving on to Ipswich Town. His career has since taken in a number of clubs including Chelmsford City for whom he played against Ware in the 3-3 FA Cup draw of 2023 and one game for Cheshunt in which he lined up alongside Reece Beckles-Richards. Ekow Coker: Central Defender: Ekow, a tall centre back, returns to Ware after diversions at Bedford Town and King Langley. He starts 2026/7 on 23 appearances for the club and two goals. Ekow made his debut on the 11th November 2023 in the 4-1 league defeat at Waltham Abbey. Sam Mayuma: Wide midfield: Sam debuted in the Herts Charity Cup match at Cheshunt at the start of the 2024/5 season and soon became a fixture in the side offering good running down the wing and the ability to cut in and score when the chance arose. By the end of the 2025/6 season he had made 71 appearances and scored 18 goals. Zack Braverman: GK. The former Watford academy player joins on loan from Chesham United. He made his debut in the FA Trophy game against Brightlingsea Regent on 29th August 2026. His saves in the penalty shoot-out took Ware into the next round.

Leverstock Green’s impressive run in the FA Youth Cup continued on Thursday night as two players scored hattricks in a 7-1 victory over Rayners Lane in the First Qualifying Round. Finlay Clark opened the scoring in the 13th minute, and Ashton Corder doubled the Leverstock lead in the 22nd minute. Samuel Brewster then took over, scoring in the 35th, 50th and 52nd minutes for his second hat-trick in successive games. The visitors pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute, but Corder then completed a hat-trick with goals in the 88th and 89th minutes. The draw for the Second Qualifying Round will be released on Friday.

Leverstock Green added another point to their total, but they are still looking for their first league win of the season after a 1-1 draw against MK Irish on Saturday. It was a game that offered few clear-cut chances for either side. In the 18th minute Leverstock keeper Ryan North did well to gather a cross from Cairo Taylor that took a deflection in the six yard box. At the other end two minutes later a long throw from George Mitchell-Gears was headed back across goal by Joe McCarthy to Jack Allen, who couldn’t get a clean strike on the ball. The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute from a free kick that was given away unneccesarily. The ball into the box was caught by North but he couldn’t hold onto it and as the ball fell from his hands it hit MK’s Clinton Zawe and deflected back into the net. The equaliser came from another free kick in the 41st minute. Carmicheal Uchenna delivered to ball towards the far post where Callum Neal came in unchecked to head home his third goal of the season, making him currently Leverstock’s top scorer. The Under-18s continued their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 win at neighbours Hemel Hempstead Town in their second SCFYL Corinthian Division match. Ashton Corder opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Finley Clark made it 2-0 just before half time. Hemel pulled a goal back in second half stoppage time but Leverstock held on for the win.

Leverstock Green are still finding their first league win of the season to be elusive as they picked up their fourth draw from seven games in Saturday’s visit to Hertford Town. Leverstock led at half time but suffered from questionable decisions from the match officials in the second half. The Leverstock squad is now facing life without Carmicheal Uchenna, who has been snapped up by National League side Wealdstone this week, and it was the home side who made the running early on with Kieran Barnes striking the bar with a shot in the 2nd minute, and hitting another shot just wide in the 9th minute. Iker Noguera Leon had a run at goal in the 11th minute but hit his shot high and wide. In the 19th minute Ashton Corder broke away and passed to Leon, who had another effort at goal which was much closer, going just wide. Leverstock keeper Ryan North produced the first of several great saves in the 34th minute to keep out a Ben Herd free kick, and again in the 39th minute to turn away a shot when Olu Quadri broke away down the right. However, it was Leverstock that opened the scoring a minute before half time, as Ademide Baruwa’s pass set up Leon to slot a shot under the body of former Leverstock keeper Josh Bowler.

Leon went close to a second goal in the 51st minute as he attempted to chip Bowler from near the halfway line, but it landed just wide of the goal. However, things were soon to turn sour for Leon. A minute later he was cautioned for an off-the-ball incident in a clear case of mistaken identity, as he was nowhere near the incident. As Leon continued to protest his innocence, the Leverstock bench attempted to substitute him with Joe McCarthy, but with McCarthy on the field, the referee consulted his assistant and then decided to show Leon a second yellow card and cancel the substitution, meaning that Leverstock were down to ten men. McCarthy eventually came onto the pitch in the 63rd minute to replace Corder, and three minutes later he was through on goal and onside, but elected to square the ball for Baruwa, who had a much better chance, but as Baruwa put the ball in the net he was flagged for offside, despite having likely been behind the ball when McCarthy passed. Instead of being two goals up, they were brought back on level terms in the 69th minute. Another free kick was given away just outside the box, and this time Hertford player/manager Herd curled his free kick beyond the reach of North for the equaliser. Leverstock’s ten men were somewhat under the cosh for the remainder of the game, but North produced two great saves in the 71st and 72nd minute, and Hertford had a

By Matt Badcock Editor, The Non-League Paper JUST the mere mention of the upcoming international break sends colleagues from our sister title The Football League Paper into a cold sweat. The thought of two Saturdays without any Championship football along with less than half of the scheduled League One programme is enough to induce sleepless nights as they contemplate quite how to fill all their pages. To make it worse, even some League Two games have been postponed because of call-ups, so how much longer will it be before National League games are under threat too? The good news is The FLP team will produce great papers worth reading in the new reality of two international breaks – September and October – squashed together. The move was approved in March 2023 with the later than usual 2026 World Cup finish because the tournament

expanded – remember that bright idea – to reduce the number of journeys around the world so many players have to take. It means England and Wales will be playing four games in this window rather than the usual two and the shutters come down on the top two divisions in England effectively for three weeks. Step into the limelight. Non-League football. We all know about the rip-roaring success of Non-League Day, founded by James Doe to encourage fans to their local Non-League club when both the Premier League and Championship are on hold. This upcoming break is a great opportunity to get out the NonLeague Day textbook and entice fans through the turnstiles. A lot of match-going fans will be starved of their usual fix but still keen to see some live action. It has to be said, watching Non-League football – particularly in the National League – is becoming more expensive in some cases. Many Step 1 clubs charge north of £20 now – and car parking fees seem to be on the rise too! You have to go a bit further down to Pyramid fulfil the cliched twenty quid gets you in the ground with change for a burger and a pint.

Of course, costs have gone up across the board. All businesses are feeling the pinch and it’s never been more expensive to run a football club. But great value days out still reign supreme in Non-League. So let’s see top special offers, the ‘kids go free with an adult’ deals, the extra events around the game that draw supporters in. Forward-thinking clubs are working out how to get fans to their grounds earlier and keep them there longer. While Wales’ weekend games are on Sundays, England do play on Saturdays but, crucially, at 7.45pm and 5pm – ideal to get people in the ground for a 3pm game, then keep them on for a couple of pints and some evening football on the box (starting with England v Spain tonight), while bringing in valuable revenue before the winter months. And also keep showing what a great level of the game this is.
