We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up or fight like hell. Unfortunately, at the young age of 44, Dawn lost her battle but by only working together can we win the war.
£1000 will kit out a PhD student with everything they need to beat cancer sooner, helping to train the researchers of tomorrow.

Leverstock Green exited the Premier Division Cup at the second round stage as they were unable to find a way past a resolute Colney Heath defence after conceding an early soft goal in Tuesday night’s tie.
The visitors started the stronger side and were denied a goal in the 5th minute as Austin Byfield tipped a header from Jack McShane over the bar. In the 13th minute Leverstock were caught on the break from their own free kick. Hesitation between defender and goalkeeper allowed Kemal El Maghur to nip in between them and take the ball past Byfield, eluding the two defenders who had scrambled back to slot the ball into the empty net.
Leverstock came close to an equaliser in the 22nd minute as Lewis Collins made a run into the box and exchanged passes with Chris Blunden before hitting a shot that came back off the inside of the post, with nobody able to get onto the rebound. A foul on Elgeniy Daalberg in the 26th minute gave Leverstock a chance from a free kick in a central position, but Blunden’s effort was comfortable for keeper Connor Sansom. Blunden hit a better long range effort in the 38th minute, but it flew just over the angle of post and bar.
Colney Heath went close to adding a second goal in the 56th minute with a long range effort from Harry Shepherd that went inches over the bar, while Leverstock again had a chance for an equaliser in the 62nd minute, but a fierce shot from Rio Beach took a deflection off a defender and went just wide. At the other end Byfield produced a couple of good saves to keep Leverstock in the game, and they went agonisingly close again in the 82nd minute. Radu Mihai Stefanoaica cross from the bye line was headed back across goal by George Mitchell Gears and Blunden slid in to finish but was denied by a point blank save from Sansom.
Leverstock pushed everything forward over the closing minutes and won a succession of corners, but the Colney Heath defence held firm, and they held out for the win which takes them into the quarterfinals. Leverstock finished the game with ten men after Scott McGleish was sin binned during stoppage time.

The Emirates FA Cup dream came crashing down on Saturday for Shefford Town & Campton, the Bedfordshire club in their debut campaign in the competition were beaten 0 5 at Anstey Nomads in front of a healthy crowd of 735.
Bottom of Division One Burton Park Wanderers forgot about their league worries as they knocked out unbeaten Division Two side Aston Clinton in the Gladwish Challenge Trophy, the hosts winning 4 1 while in an all Division One tie Northampton ON Chenecks recorded a solitary goal success against visiting Amersham Town (more on this later in the ramblings).
Crawley Green remain top despite suffering a 0 3 defeat at Stotfold, the hosts producing a stunning second half display after being level at the break. St Panteleimon move up to second following their 4 3 win at Potton United while third placed Leighton Town proved too strong for visiting Biggleswade United, the hosts running out 5 1 winners in front of the season’s largest league crowd to date, 403. Bottom club Arlesey Town doubled their points tally with a 1 1 home draw with unbeaten Leverstock Green while Aylesbury Vale Dynamos saw a 2 0 interval lead disappear after the break as they were defeated by the odd goal in seven at Hoddesdon Town, the hosts recording
their first league win of the campaign. Elsewhere Tring Athletic saw off the challenge of visiting Baldock Town 4 1 while Dunstable Town overcame hosts Colney Heath by the odd goal on three. Moulton FC climb to second after a 4-0 win at Rushden & Higham United while Northampton Sileby Rangers are fourth after a 7 0 home success against lowly Raunds Town. At the other end of the standings Thame United Reserves were beaten 0 3 at home by Eaton Socon, all the goals coming in the second half while Holmer Green picked up three useful points following their 2 1 win against visiting Wellingborough Whitworth. Elsewhere a goal in each half was enough for Letchworth Garden City Eagles to record a home win against Buckingham Athletic while Rugby Borough returned home from their trip to London Tigers with the full quota of points following a 6 0 win. The day’s other action saw Winslow United record a 3 1 home success against Langford.
No changes at the top of the Division Two standings as both the top two enjoyed 4 0 wins on their travels, leaders Old Bradwell United winning at AFC Caddington while Totternhoe were successful at Buckingham United, a result that was to see the hosts part company with their manager the following day. Leighton Town Development climb to third following their 5 2 win at Eynesbury United while New Bradwell St Peter move up to fifth after a 4 1 success against visiting Berkhamsted Raiders. At the foot of the table The 61FC (Luton) remain rooted after suffering a 0 5 defeat at Sarratt while also pointless Potton United Development lost 1 3 at Risborough Rangers Development. Elsewhere Codicote secured a 3 0 win at Bovingdon while Pitstone & Ivinghoe edged out visiting Milton Keynes College Football Academy by the odd goal in three.
SSMFL Board & Committee member Bob Flight was at Northampton ON Chenecks and pens the following report: In the first round of the Gladwish Trophy, Northampton O.N. Chenecks hosted Amersham Town in front of a Billing Road crowd of 56. In an entertaining game, it was the Chenecks that narrowly won the tie 1 0. The first half was a fairly even affair with neither side able to create a clear cut chance to score. However, Chenecks were fortunate that an early defensive slip, which allowed a Town player to go through on goal, was not punished as the home keeper made a good save. Further disappointment came for the visitors as the referee waved away their appeals for a penalty in the first few minutes of the game. With the Chenecks forwards being constantly caught offside their attacks were unsuccessful. Thus, the half finished goalless with the spectators wondering if there ever going to be a goal. The second half began well for the home team, and they had several chances to score, and they even missed a penalty on 62 minutes when their player struck his shot against the Town crossbar. Little was seen of the Town attack as they struggled against the home teams press. The game turned on 70 minutes when a Town player talked himself into the sin bin and during this time Cheneks scored the all important goal. Following several corners, finally one reached the head of George Barnell who headed the ball into the net on 76 minutes much to the relief of the home supporters. This seemed to wake up Town who began to pressure the home defence and now back up to the full eleven players they created several late chances. One was just over the bar; another was headed over the bar from a corner and another chance hit a post and bounced clear. Chenecks realised that they had to respond to protect their slim lead and they themselves managed to hit a post with a shot just before full time. Chenecks managed to see out the remaining few minutes and overall, they were the better team and just about deserved the narrow 1 0 win and go into the next round.

As in previous seasons the donations made by our Vice Presidents have assisted us in providing many improvements.

Changes have been made to the promotion and relegation guidelines given in the summer for Step 5 of the FA’s National League System. This is due to vacancies that have arisen in the NLS for a variety of reasons.
At Step 4, the 8 Clubs finishing 4th bottom and 2 clubs ending 3rd bottom with the highest PPG now do not have to take part in the Inter Step Play Offs.
This leaves 6 eligible Step 4 Clubs for the Play-Offs and 16 eligible 2nd placed Clubs at Step 5. As a result, the Clubs finishing in 2nd position at Step 5 are ranked on PPG with the 10 highest being automatically promoted.
The 6 remaining Step 4 Clubs and 6 remaining Step 5 Clubs are placed into geographical groupings and paired by PPG as per the Play Off Criteria
12 Clubs finishing in the bottom two across Step 5 will now be reprieved from relegation ranked on PPG. It has to be noted that the above situation is the current position and could change if the Committee feels there is a valid reason in the best interest of the NLS.
