Scott and Ferg’s 250th Game Scott and Ferg’s 250th game in charge was last week. So we would like to thank them for what they have done for the club, and for their continuing efforts to bring the club as far as they can.

Dan caught up with Scott after the game and asked him some questions about the time they have been with the club.

Q - Your first competitive game in charge was a 1–0 FA Cup defeat away at Stanway Rovers back in August 2021. If you could go back to that dressing room before kick-off, what would you tell yourselves knowing what the next 249 games would bring?

A - I would say to trust in the process that we believed we could create from the first training session. Accept the lows and don’t get too exuberant with the highs.

Q- When you took the job, did either of you genuinely believe you’d still be here 250 competitive games later?

A - I definitely didn’t expect to be anywhere near 250 games. When we first joined we invited all season before squad to pre-season. And from senior players only Dan Weeks actually stayed to give us a chance.

Q - Looking back at the club you inherited compared with the Leverstock Green FC of today, what do you think has changed the most?

A - ⁠Well the first thing we insisted on was that the bar stays open past 5.30 on a Saturday. We made a conscious effort to make sure that any player we signed would buy into creating a club environment that everyone can enjoy.

That’s committee members, supporters and players.

Q- You’ve had some incredible days at the club. If you had to pick one single moment from the first 249 games that stands above everything else, what would it be, and why?

A - ⁠That’s an easy one. The play off Final. To have 1000 supporters in Pancake lane. The work everyone had to do in a few days to play the final was amazing and probably something the club will never do again. Then for the players to play the way they did in the final was just incredible.

Q - And on the flip side, what has been the toughest moment you’ve experienced as managers?

A - ⁠Probably last pre season. After staying at step 4 on last game of the season we hoped that players would want to return and push on the following season.

This was not how it happened. We only had a few players willing to stay.

Recruiting was hard due to financial constraints. Every player we approached thinks we are step 4 and loads of money like everyone else in the division.

What know realised was we got promoted on no budget and stayed up on £15 a week per player. Credit must go to the group of players that stayed because result was hard to come by but they stuck at it and trusted us as staff to get players in and turn it around.

Q - Last season saw the club achieve its highest-ever league finish. What did that achievement mean to you personally?

A - Finishing in the clubs highest ever position of 12th at step 4 was just unbelievable. As I said last pre season was tough and then to think we entered the bottom 4 of the league around about Xmas. To then finish 12th. All credit players who stayed and the new recruits we managed to get in. Ferg’s little black book and Aaron’s constant messaging of players really did the trick.

Q - You’ve been side-by-side for 250 games. What do you think is the biggest strength of your partnership and what does the other one do that drives you absolutely mad?

A- ⁠I would say our biggest strength is that we both hate losing and are passionate about football. We don’t always see eye to eye. Neither of us are yes men. We would say our point on selection of team and tactics and then between us go with what we think is best for the team for that game. As for drive me mad it has to be Ferg on the sidelines. Doesn’t matter if he is praising a player or having a go at them. It’s always in a tone that feels it’s more having a go. There is no difference. I’m sure the players always think he is having a go.

Oh also when Ferg decides to show everyone his lucky Paddy power pants.

Thats a sight no one needs to see.

Q - When your time at Leverstock Green eventually comes to an end, what do you hope people will say about Scott and Fergie’s time in charge?

A - As for after we go you hope that supporters and club staff will see that we created that environment we promised in the interview. A club everyone can be proud of. That we also achieved promotion and cup wins during our time with memories for everyone associated with the club. The truth is what people say will not bother me at all. As it will probably mean we have been sacked so people will think that we deserved to go as results not good enough.

Visiting Club History: The foundations for the Mount Grace Old Scholars (Potters Bar) Football Association were laid in spring 1960. The school's first team were having a good season, but many of the boys were due to leave at Easter. It was then that Ken Barrett; the P.E. Master of Mount Grace School asked them and old 'Scholars' to support him in raising a team.

We were accepted into the Barnet & District League on 29th June 1960. Ken enlisted Bert Wright, the school's Caretaker and Sven Hammarling and then Bill Venneear. Reserve, 3rd and 4th Teams were added in the following seasons.

In 1965, the Barnet & District and Finchley & District Leagues merged to form the North London Combination. By 1967/68 we had won the Premier Division and the Reserves the Division 1 title and were admitted to Division 2 of the Herts County League. In 1976 Bill Venneear and Clive Cavalier stepped down and Peter Waller, then the 3rd Team manager, was ‘persuaded’ to take over.

In 1978 many recommended the closure of the Club, but we continued and our three sides were relegated. But from the experience grew a desire never to repeat the mistakes again.

Micky Holson became Manager and in 1981/82 we were in the Premier Division, as Division One Champions.

Clive Cavalier rejoined in 1979, and Peter Waller planned the new clubhouse and changing rooms. Construction started in July 1982 and in six months, with Frank Bentley's considerable involvement and help from members, the clubhouse opened on the 9th January 1983.

In 1990/91, we reached the FA Vase 3rd round, before we came back from a 24-point deficit to win the Herts Senior County League Premier Division and the Aubrey Cup.We accepted promotion to the South Midlands League and changed our playing name to Potters Bar Town FC, to reflect the growing stature of the club and promote the Town. Don Newman stood down as Chairman after 11 years.

We installed the Floodlight system in 1993, the Youth section was reformed in 1993/94 and FA Cup football came in 1995/96. At the end of that season, Peter Waller stepped down as Secretary, after twenty years, to become Chairman.

In 1996/97, the South Midlands Premier Division title was won, but we knew there was too much work to do to apply to the Isthmian League.

The following season, 1997/98, the club reached the quarter final of the FA Vase, going down 2-0 to Kidsgrove Athletic, only conceding in the second period of extra time. We

were Runners-up in the league, but won the Challenge Trophy and the South Midlands Floodlight Cup. The Reserves went one better, winning Reserve Division One. In 1998, Peter Waller and Eddie Harvey, secured a new 21-year lease on the ground, Sadly, we lost Bill Venneear in November 2000, a victim of cancer. The 150-seater Main Stand was added in May 2001.

For Season 2001/02, Steve Smart became Manager and by 2002/03, with Paul Surridge, we achieved 3rd place in the league and won the Herts Charity Shield. The Potters Bar Charity Cup followed in 2003/04, but 2004/05 was the most successful of his 3-year reign, winning four trophies; the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division and the Premier Division Cup, Herts Charity Shield and Potters Bar Charity Cup. The club went on to take the title by sixteen points, remaining unbeaten in the final 19 league matches, including sixteen victories.

Off the pitch, in 6 weeks Club members and Players carried out major improvements and we passed the FA Ground grading and earned promotion to the Southern League Division 1 East for season 2005/06. Steve Smart stepped down; Kevin Lucas was appointed, and then replaced by Andy Milne. Though we were bottom for six months, we would not give up. Andy Leese agreed to join us in February 2006 and with new players our fortunes changed and we survived, finishing 16th. The club was devastated that season by the death of Ken Woodward, who had spearheaded the ground improvements.

For 2006/07, we were moved to the Ryman League Division 1 North. We enjoyed a most successful FA Cup run, losing 3-2 to full-time Woking, of the Conference National, in the 4th qualifying round, after wins against Waltham Abbey, Wealdstone, Maldon Town and Margate with a 1-2 away win. We won the Herts FA Charity Cup for the first time, but lost Kevin Wilmot as Secretary. Andy Leese left in May 2007 and we appointed Steve Browne, though he resigned in December 2008.

In the summer of 2007, a spectators covered area was added and a turnstile block. All four turnstiles have a unique history, as they were all in use at the old Wembley Stadium, until it closed in 2000. Adam Lee was appointed in 2008 and for 5 years served the Club with great distinction and commitment, always improving our league position and reached the Herts Senior Cup Final in 2012/13 for the only time.

In May 2010, to celebrate our 50th year, many former players returned, including 9 who had played in the very first match in September 1960! Bert Wright, one of our 'founders', received the FA 50-Year Service Award. To commemorate the occasion, the Club reverted to Maroon shirts, the same colours that we wore in June 1960. In January 2012, Bert Wright died at the age of 93, having given the club 52 years of service. In his honour, we renamed the Main stand after him.

For 2013/14 we were back in the Southern League. In late 2013, Adam Lee stepped down, succeeded by Jack Friend, and then in early 2015, by Steve Ringrose. Our Free Season Ticket Offer was launched for 2014/15 and made the national press. Sadly, we lost Eddie

Harvey. In 2015/16 we reached the semi-final of the League Cup, and then in 2016/17 we made the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup for the second time, including a replay win at Bath City on penalties (our best result against a team from a higher level).

In Summer 2017 the Clubroom was refurbished and in August 2018, after raising £100,000 ourselves and 3 years’ work by John Gibbs, our new Changing Room complex was opened. For 2017/18 we were back in the Isthmian League Division 1 North. In September 2017, Peter Waller, celebrated 50 years of service to the Club and received an FA Award. Steve Ringrose 'promoted' James Duncan to Head Coach and several experienced players arrived.

We started with another successful run in the FA Cup, losing to National South Play Off Finalists Hampton & Richmond Borough, whilst in the FA Trophy we fell to Southern League Premier Division Champions, Hereford, both after replays. We then targeted the Play offs, being 8th in January.

However, in our remaining 22 fixtures, we won 15 and drew 5 and came through to take 2nd spot and promotion, with a win on the final day. As a result, we proudly started 2018/19 in the Premier Division.

The 2018/19 season was to present two challenges: One: Make the necessary ground improvements to reach the next level ground grading requirements which meant the addition of two new stands - one a 100-seater and the other a 100 standing. This was achieved on time thanks to the hard work of club members, supporters, fund-raising and grants.

Two: Establish ourselves at step three. This we did, finishing 16th in the in the Bostik Premier League despite the departure of our management team in the season, but we again promoted from within with Lee O'Leary stepping up to player/manager, joined by Scott Cousins as joint manager. It was another season of significant progress.

The shortened 2019/20 season was another successful one as the club solidified its position at Step three and gained national interest as we took Barnet to a replay in the FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying, whilst the home game being shown on the BBC with a crowd of 2011 in attendance.

The 2020/21 season was also curtailed, with the last game being played in October, a 3-1 loss against Leatherhead. The season’s termination did not prevent us from continuing to make progress on and off the pitch however, as on the pitch we were able to enjoy 3-0 wins against both Cheshunt and Cray Wanderers, the latter ending our opponent’s 17 game unbeaten run.

Off the pitch, further improvements were made to the stadium, as a state-of-the-art sprinkler system, a perimeter barrier around the pitch and a new draining system were all

installed, whilst the main grandstand was changed to a maroon and white, with new seats and a repaint in order to match the new club colours.

The 2021/22 season saw a return to football and a season completed. We went out of the FA Cup in the first qualifying round away to Stowmarket Town but enjoyed our best run to date in the FA Trophy before losing 3-1 away to Braintree Town of the National League South in the second round proper. With an unprecedented wet winter, the club was hampered by having a number of home game postponed due to a continuing waterlogged pitch which put us behind in league fixtures -a lot of mid season work was put into the pitch to aid its recovery.

Lee O’Leary resigned as manager, but the club appointed the experienced Sammy Moore which saw a change in the team’s performances and the Club achieved a final position of 13th with 53 points, their best yet at step three.

Moore oversaw a strong start to the 2022/23 season that left the Scholars shocking the league at the top of the table, a position the team stayed in as late as November. Moore left the Club after 10 months in charge, and Lee Protheroe was promoted from his role as coach, taking his place in the dugout. His tenure was short lived, as he resigned in March with the team safe and in our first ever Velocity Cup final. It was left to Max Mitchell and Liam Hope to manage the team to the final, which ended 3-0 to Aveley on a difficult night for Bar, but wins against Carshalton and Margate to end the season left fans feeling optimistic, after equalling our best finish of 13th and 53 points.

In the 2023/2024 Season the Scholars from the re-named Lantern Stadium had a poor start to the season, a good middle and a poor end. At one stage we had an outside chance of making the playoffs, but because of drainage issues with the pitch we had to play so many games in a short time span that we ended up 15th in the table with 51 points.

We started the 2024/2025 season playing our home games at Kings Langley FC where we had the clubs’ best points total at step 3 of 57 points finishing 14th in the table. We return home this season to play on our new 3G pitch and have a considerably upgraded ground now with a capacity of 3000.

It was worth it, as we returned home for 2025-26 to play on our new 3G pitch and had a considerably upgraded stadium now with a capacity of 3000. The season unfortunately saw us relegated as our stay in step 3 came to an end. Max Mitchell’s tenure as manager came to an end in November, he was replaced by the returning Sammy Moore, but he also left in March, the season’s conclusion was overseen by interim manager Jack Pridmore.

A renewed sense of optimism surrounds the club ahead of the 2026-27 season though, as Jimmy Martin takes on the role of manager and will be hoping to have a strong season in the Southern League Division One Central.

Jimmy Martin – Manager Jimmy Martin became the Club’s new First Team Manager at the start of the 2026-27 season.

Jimmy joins the Club following an impressive spell with Biggleswade Town FC, where he has built a reputation as a highly competitive manager, with a strong knowledge and understanding of football at Step 4. Over recent seasons, Jimmy has consistently shown his ability to organise competitive sides, challenge strongly within the division and drive high standards both on and off the pitch. His experience within the Southern League, combined with his understanding of the non-league game and player market, made him an outstanding candidate throughout the recruitment process. Jimmy is also a highly qualified coach, who places huge importance on preparation, detail, coaching standards and continual improvement.

Graeme Tomlinson - Assistant Manager Tomlinson enjoyed an impressive playing career, playing for the likes of Manchester United, Bradford, Wimbledon, Luton and Macclesfield before heading into non-league. Having played at non-league level with St Albans City, Bedford Town and Stotfold, Tomlinson gained great knowledge on football in the area, which will be key for the club moving forwards. In his coaching career, Tomlinson was first an assistant manager at Bedford Town between 2020 and 2022, later becoming manager between December 2022 and May 2023. In 2022 Tomlinson was part of the Bedford Town side which secured promotion to the Southern Central Premier Division as champions, showing his quality in Step 4. Tomlinson has also been a coach at Corby Town he now works alongside Jimmy Martin at the Lantern Community Stadium.

Dean Harrison – Coach Dean Harrison joins the club having previously been the assistant manager at Ware, proving his experience working in Step 4. He was also the caretaker manager at Kent United in the 24/25 season, taking the club from 3rd bottom to 6th at the end of the campaign.

Lemar Houslin - Physio Physio Lemar Houslin joined the club from Biggleswade Town in the summer, reuniting with Jimmy Martin where the pair first worked together.

Vikrant Dogra – Data Analyst Data Analyst Vikrant Dogra joined the club in the 24/25 season, and is entering his third campaign working at the club. Vikrant's impressive attention to detail and high-level analysis has made him a vital member of the coaching staff.

Jack Berman Top quality goalkeeper who has experience in Step 3 returns to the Bar, as Jack Berman signs for the Scholars! Berman has worked with Jimmy Martin together since he was a youth player at Stevenage, highlighting the strong relationship between the two. The goalkeeper has been a reliable option for Martin, and played 31 times for the Waders last season, as the team made the playoff semi-final.

Jacques Kpohomouh The right back often known by supporters as Kpog, he played 42 times for the club in 2022, where he played a key role in keeping the club in the division, and our rise to the top of the league in November of 2022, He returned to the club in December 2025.

Kyri Antoniou Antoniou joined us from our Pro-Direct Academy last season. A versatile wide player, he is continuing to make his first steps in senior football at the Bar and is an exciting prospect who we are pleased to be welcoming to the First Team.

Haziz Kone Midfielder Haziz Kone arrived at the club from St Albans City in the summer. He impressed at Alylesbury United in the 2024/2025 season playing 35 times and scoring 3 goals.

Cyrus Babaie Cyrus Babaie returns to the Bar! Babaie is a versatile player who played up front for the Scholars in his last stint at the club in 2023. His penalty against Cheshunt in September 2023 sent us to the Herts Charity Cup final. Since leaving the club, Babaie has enjoyed successful seasons, mostly under the stewardship of Jimmy Martin at Biggleswade Town. Babaie scored 11 times for the Waders in Step 3 in the 24/25 season, before moving to Kettering Town and Redditch United. He also made 37 appearances for Biggleswade Town last campaign, scoring five times.

Callum Wilson The top quality left back signs for the Scholars, as we welcome Callum Wilson to the Bar! Wilson has a superb working relationship with Jimmy Martin he has worked alongside our manager for six years of his career. The full back was a leader in the squad at Potton United when Jimmy was first the manager there, and he moved to Biggleswade Town with him in June 2023, where he has been promoted out of Step 4.

Ebenezer Addo-Kufuor The 23-year-old can play in full back areas or across the wing, he was very effective in front of goal last term, scoring 13 goals and registering 15 assists in 37 games. Addo-Kufuor played for

Albie Hall A clinical striker who won the Golden Boot in our division last season, we welcome Albie Hall to the club! Hall scored an incredible 37 goals for Barton Rovers last term in just 42 games, highlighting his quite superb ability in front of goal. A captain, Hall also has leadership qualities which will prove priceless to the club.

Tami Ogunnowo An exciting and dynamic winger Tami Ogunnowo has joined the club! Ogunnowo has played for many local sides, including Hertford, Redbridge, Kings Langley, Waltham Abbey and Enfield FC. He played 11 times for the Es last season, being part of Waltham Abbey's playoff campaign in the 23/24 season, scoring in extra time in a game which eventually saw Waltham Abbey reach the playoff final on penalties, where he scored the winning penalty.

Max Davis A talented midfielder with an eye for goal, Davis began his career at Tottenham and Stevenage as an academy player and began his senior career with London Lions aged just 16. The 23-yearold secured promotion to Step 4 with London Lions in the 24/25 season, and his superb campaign saw him pick up the Manager of the Season, Players' Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season and even the Golden Boot scoring 19 goals. He played 44 times last season, including 38 appearances in the league at Step 4 level with London Lions, scoring 13 times, proving his quality at Step 4.

Tom Baggaley A physically dominant centre back Baggaley has played for Barton Rovers and Biggleswade Town, where he played under the stewardship of Jimmy Martin, who he will now be reuniting with. The defender played 27 times for Barton Rovers between August and December 2025, and the nine more times for the Waders, meaning he played 36 games in the Southern Central League Division One last campaign. In his nine games for Biggleswade Town, he scored three times including two goals in an 8-1 win over AFC Dunstable, showing the threat he provides in front of goal as well.

Connor Tomlinson A striker who is clinical in front of goal the 25-year-old has his name in the history books at Luton Town, as the youngest player to ever make an appearance for the club, aged 15 years and 199 days old when he came on as a sub in an EFL Trophy game against Gillingham in August 2016. Since then, the striker has had a successful career in non-league, starting on loan at Hemel Hempstead, and then at Bedford Town between 2019 and 2023. In 59 appearances for Bedford Town, Tomlinson scored 25 times, highlighting his quality in front of goal. Tomlinson later signed for Nuneaton Borough, and Barwell, and has also had a second stint at Bedford

Town as well as two stints at Corby Town, his most recent club. He has been promoted out of Step 4 with Berkhamsted. Tomlinson scored eight goals last term and will be in the same team as Tyrone Lewthwaite as the pair played together at Corby.

Andrew Bennett A midfielder with technical quality in abundance, Bennett played for Ware before spending a few years in America, later returning to the UK and playing for Jimmy Martin at Biggleswade Town. He made 14 appearances for the Waders last season. Bennett is well known for his superb passing range, but he is also able to make challenges and act as a physical presence.

Damani Hunter A promising young defender who can also play along the front line, Hunter has a strong relationship with manager Jimmy Martin, having played for him at Biggleswade Town, signing for the Waders in 2023. The 22-year-old is a graduate of Watford's academy, and has also played for Grays Athletic. He also made 35 appearances for Biggleswade Town last season, showing his experience in the Southern League Division One Central.

Tyrone Lewthwaite A physical striker with a superb goalscoring record Lewthwaite scored 22 goals and got seven assists last season highlighting his quality in front of goal, ending the season in Step 2 with Leamington. The striker has also played for Kettering Town, Corby Town and Bromsgrove Sporting, where he has gained a reputation for being a natural goal scorer. He has even played a key role in FA Cup history, as it was his goal that broke the record for Kettering Town as they became the highest scorers in FA Cup history in the 23/24 season.

Daniel Tagoe A Step 4 winning centre back has signed for the Bar, as we welcome Daniel Tagoe in an exciting signing for the club. Tagoe won the Southern Central Division One last season with Leighton Town, showing his credentials as a winner in this league. A technical player who can keep possession and play the ball out from the back. He is also 6'5 tall, which makes him an aerial presence in both boxes. The 23-year-old defender played 27 times for Leighton Town last season, keeping six clean sheets in his last seven appearances, proving his talent and ability at Step 4. Tagoe has also played for AFC Dunstable and AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Johnny Allotey A talented winger with an abundance of Step 3 and Step 4 experience is back at the Bar, as we welcome back Johnny Allotey! Allotey has played for Hitchin, Harrow Borough, Wingate & Finchley and has made over 50 appearances for Ware, making him an experienced at the level despite still being a young player. In his first stint at the Bar in 2023, Allotey played five times

and returns to the club as a real threat in front of goal, having scored 12 and assisted 10 in his first 40 Ware appearances.

Ibrahim Nagheeb A leader in the middle of the park Ibrahim Nagheeb was the captain for Biggleswade Town last season, showing his leadership qualities and his strong relationship with manager Jimmy Martin. He played 26 times for the Waders last term, as they reached the Southern Central Division One play-off semi-final. Nagheeb has also played for Harrow Borough in Step 3, and for Biggleswade Town at that level. The box-to-box midfielder is known for his dynamism and hard work on and off the ball.

Max Rinder A talented young midfielder, Max Rinder signed for the club in March last season, and played five times, impressing with his performance away at Welling United. In his second season at the club, the technical midfielder will be hoping to try and play a significant role in Bar’s attempt to have a strong season in Step 4.

Ethan Lack A reliable defender who played a key role at Thame United, Ethan Lack arrived at the club in the summer. Lack is a full back who can play in the centre of midfield. He reached the playoff semi- final in Step 4 last term losing out to eventual playoff winners Hitchin Town. The 23-yearold has also played for King's Lynn Town, has won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup twice, and having been pivotal in both runs to winning the trophy, Lack has shown his credentials as a winner.

Hussein Issa Forward Hussein Issa arrives at the club from Loughborough Students, also known as the Scholars. Issa played over 50 times for Loughborough Students and was clinical in front of goal.

Match Reports Leverstock Green 1 vs 2 London Lions Leverstock Green have yet to start a league campaign with a win since their elevation to Step 4, and that run continued as they were beaten 2-1 at home by London Lions on Tuesday night in their opening game of 2026/27.

It was the visitors that made the stronger start to the game, with Jack Mattey proving a threat down the right and hitting a shot across goal and wide in the third minute. In the 21st minute a cross found Max Kyte in front of goal, but his header was saved by Leverstock keeper Ryan North.

A minute later Leverstock had their first chance of the game when a shot from Joe McCarthy was turned away by Lions keeper Sam Meisel. Five minutes later Ademide Baruwa had a good chance from a corner but headed wide. In the 30th minute Jack Allen just failed a reach a ball across goal from Vladyslav Karuchok.

The visitors took the lead in the 31st minute in an almighty goalmouth scramble following a corner. North

made a good save from the initial chance, but Leverstock could not clear the ball from their six yard box and eventually Ben Bellman forced the ball home.

Leverstock went close to an equaliser on 41 minutes when Callum Neal got on the end of a cross from George Eldridge but his header was tipped over by Meisel. However, as the first half went into stoppage time Neal was in the box again, this time meeting a cross from McCarthy with a diving header that found the corner of the net for the equaliser.

But having levelled the scores, Leverstock conceded again further into stoppage time. Having seconds earlier been denied a good shout for what looked like a backpass handled by Maisel, they were caught on the break and Adam Burchell finished from close range to put the visitors back in front.

It could have been 3-1 in the opening minute of the second half, but Daniel Creese’s shot hit the post and rebounded across goal. For the remainder of the game it was Leverstock on top as they attacked down the slope, but were unable to create the chances their pressure merited. The best chance came in the 56th minute when a free kick from Carmicheal Uchenna found Allen, but he headed over the bar. As the game

went into stoppage time Leverstock had a series of free kicks and corners, but the visitors defended well.

Substitute Enoch Folorunsho had a half-chance for an equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time but could not keep his shot under the bar.

Barton Rovers 1 vs 1 Leverstock Green Leverstock Green got off the mark with a deserved point from their second league fixture away to Barton Rovers on Saturday. As with last Saturday’s FA Cup tie they trailed for a long time but found an equaliser in the last ten minutes of the game.

Leverstock were unlucky not to take the lead in the 17th minute. Joe McCarthy got to the bye-line and pulled the ball back for George Mitchell-Gears, who hit a good shot but it came back off the inside of the post.

The home side had showed little threat early in the game, but a momentary lapse in concentration from the Leverstock defence allowed Powfil Raposo to run through on goal and slot past Ryan North to put Barton into a 24th minute lead. Leverstock went close to an equaliser in the 30th minute when Jack Allen got on the end of a corner, but his header was wide.

Barton went close to a second goal in the 51st minute as Tyrone Shiham put the ball over the bar from a close-range shooting opportunity, but it was Leverstock who had more of the pressure early in the second half, winning a series of corners and having some promising attacks, but the ball would not fall for

them inside the box. Their best chance came in the 63rd minute when Allen burst clean through on goal, but his shot was kept out by the legs of keeper Matt Boylan.

North made a great save in the 72nd minute, diving at his near post to turn away a shot from Ayman Assas and keep Leverstock in the game. That proved crucial as Leverstock, having made all five substitutions, finally found the equaliser. Ashton Corder had been on the pitch since the 55th minute and had already made some impressive runs down the left, but in the 83rd minute the 16-year-old picked up the ball in the middle of the Barton half and drove forward before drilling a low shot past Boylan into the corner of the net to level the scores with his first senior goal.

It could have been an even more sensational story for Corder when he had another run at goal in the 89th minute but this time Boylan saved his shot. Barton put on some pressure over the closing minutes and could have won the game themselves, but former Leverstock striker Rawn Seale headed wide of the mark from close range in stoppage time. In the end a point apiece was the right result.

Tring Athletic U18 0 vs 2 Leverstock Green U18 Leverstock Green’s U18 played their first competitive match of 2026/27 on Wednesday night, and progressed in the FA Youth Cup at the expense of Tring Athletic.

Charlie Henson headed Leverstock in front in the 34th minute, and Ashton Corder sealed the win with a stoppage time goal at the end of the game.

Leverstock now face Broadfields United at home in the Preliminary Round on Thursday 3rd September.

Ware 5 vs 3 Leverstock Green Leverstock Green’s hopes of extending their FA Cup run were ended as they fell to a heavy defeat at divisional rivals Ware in the Preliminary Round. After a first half that was mostly evenly-matched, Leverstock found themselves 5-0 down before pulling back some respectability with three late goals.

Leverstock gave a first starting appearance to Ashton Corder, and the 16 year old again looked impressive as his pace and skill gave the home defence some problems. They had a chance in the 15th minute when Ware keeper Fred Burbidge couldn’t hold onto a corner under challenge from Archie Quinlan, but Carmicheal Uchenna’s shot from the loose ball was blocked on the line. Ware broke away and almost scored themselves as Samuel Mayuma headed over the bar from close range.

Ware were forced into a change in the 38th minute as Burbidge was injured in a collision with a teammate, and after five minutes of treatment was unable to continue and was replaced by sub keeper Marco Cavedaschi. However, it was the home side that took the lead in the 41st minute when Rechan Esprit was

allowed to run far too easily through the Leverstock defence before slotting past Ryan North.

Leverstock almost equalised three minutes later when Uchenna hit a superb shot from the edge of the box, but it hit the underside of the bar and came down on the wrong side of the line, and nobody could put away the rebound. Deep into the time added on for Burbidge’s treatment, Ware added a crucial second goal as Josh Hutchinson headed home a corner from close range to give Leverstock an uphill task for the second half.

Ware should have had a third goal four minutes into the second half when Khale Da Costa had a free header from close range, but it was blocked. However, a minute later they did score the third as Ekow Coker came in unchallenged round the back of the Leverstock defence to send a header looping over North.

Leverstock made some substitutions and pushed forward to try to get themselves back into the game, but they left themselves vulnerable to Ware’s swift counter-attacks. In the 65th minute Mayuma broke away and took on Quinlan before squaring for Da Costa to slot home a simple fourth goal. In the 72nd

minute Gucci Soulya was played clean through to score the fifth as Ware threatened to run riot.

With four minutes to play Leverstock scored what looked to be a consolation goal when Uchenna ran through to slot past Cavedaschi. But there was more to come in the 88th minute when Cavedaschi was caught out dribbling across his own box by Enoch Folorunsho, who had a tap-in to score a second Leverstock goal. And in the third minute of stoppage time Dan Pett played a ball forward to George Eldridge, who beat a defender before shooting home a goal to make it 5-3. With so little time left there was no chance of Leverstock completing an unlikely comeback, but it raised the question of what might have happened had they tested Cavedaschi earlier.

By Jon Couch WHEN The NLP’s very own columnist Tony Incenzo visited Fulwood Amateurs for their North West Counties First Division North game against Thornton Cleveleys on Easter Monday, he completed a truly epic groundhopping quest.

Fifty-four years after attending his very first Non-League match, broadcaster Tony, 63, had become the first journalist to visit all 2,000 grounds in the English National League System, earning him huge acclaim.

But it Tony’s own words in his NLP column last week, the life of a Non-League groundhopper is “akin to painting the legendary Forth Bridge”. Once you achieve your targets it is time to start all over again.

Such is the ever-changing landscape of the great English pyramid, Tony was suddenly presented with another 22

new Non-League grounds to visit ahead of the start of 2026-27 season.

A groundhopper’s work is never done, it seems.

One of Tony’s first missions this season is the visit new, or modified grounds, of clubs he has already visited among his 2,600 or so ventures. Three to be exact.

Take NPL Premier side Workington for example.

Whilst a state-of-the-art £16 million stadium is being built for the West Cumbrian outfit to replace their famous old Borough Park, they are playing at nearby Fibrus Community Stadium (Derwent Park) for the next two seasons or so. It is the home of Workington Town Rugby League club and has held a record crowd of 17,741 in years gone by.

Then there’s, North West Counties League First Division North side Woolton. They have reverted to their Simpson Sports Ground headquarters after bringing it up to Step 6 standard.

They spent 2025/26 – their first season as a NLS club – groundsharing at nearby South Liverpool.

I notice Simpson has a 3G synthetic pitch so I’ll probably leave it until wintery weather kicks in before venturing there.

And finally, the third is a new Non-League ground currently under construction, just outside Aveley’s Parkside Stadium.

A one-time Sunday League pitch with some covered spectator accommodation, the ground is due to be fully enclosed to provide a Step 6 graded home for both Brimsdown and Lymore Gardens, of Eastern Counties League First Division South.

Of the 40+ teams promoted to the NLS this season from the various Regional Feeder Leagues, Tony needs to visit 19 to complete the set once again.

But it’s going to require plenty of miles on the clock with 300+ mile treks to South West Peninsula League Premier West Division sides Hayle AFC and St Mawgan on the ‘to-do’ list. Still, there are worse places to visit I suppose.

Naturally, Tony’s already on the case and up and running for 2026-27.

Two of the freshly promoted Step 6 clubs have been visited – the most recent of which, an FA Vase First Round Qualifying round match at Hemsworth Miners Welfare with Dearne & District the visitors.

The Northern Counties East League Division One team have developed a new ground next door to their previous pitch which didn’t meet NLS football requirements.

And then earlier in the month, he watched Anstey Town beat Birmingham OJM 5-0 in the Midland League Division One. Anstey play at a nice set-up within De Montfort University at Beaumont Park in Leicester.

With the games coming thick and fast, Tony is out and about most nights of the week – except, that is, when it coincides with a QPR home game. Tony hasn’t missed his beloved Rs at Loftus Road for 53 years!

His ground tally now sits at 2,715 with every match logged in his now famous handwritten scrapbook.

He’s also a jolly nice bloke, so if you see Tony at a game near you then say hello. I’m sure he’ll have a tale or two to tell.
