The Merton Shield Final was held at Pancake Lane on Thursday. The winners were Sawbridgeworth Town who won on penalties after the game finished 2 goals each against Letchworth Garden City Eagles. This was the first of three finals being held at Pancake Lane this season, the other two are the Gladwish Challenge Trophy and the Premier Division Cup both Spartan South Midlands League finals. The Under 15’s are going very well this season under Lee Robinson. Currently 2nd in the EJA Brown Division, nine points behind Berkhamsted with 2 games in hand and yet to play Berkhamsted. They have reached the final of the Peter Peters Cup. The Semi Final versus Colney Heath, which was won by a goal to nil with a goal from Shae Robinson. The final will be held on Wednesday 11th May kick off 7.45pm at Ware FC versus Welwyn Garden City. The annual Presentation night is today at 7.00pm at the club. It is just £5 a head with food from a pizza van. Tickets and information from got from our Chairman, Emma. At the bar we have added London Pride on tap to our draft beers, it comes with special beer glasses too. Also we have bottled Budweiser on special at £3 a bottle or £5 for two bottles. Sue and Michelle will be happy to serve you these products. The clubs AGM will be held on Thursday 26th May at 8.00pm at the club. All supporters, players and managers are welcome. Risborough Rangers have failed ground grading for promotion, the club has appealed to the FA. However they will not be demoted to Division One and have been given until June to complete the a F ground grading which applies to Step 5, i.e. Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

After five league games without a win, Leverstock Green returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 result over Tring Athletic in Saturday’s Dacorum Derby at Pancake Lane. It was an evenlycontested game on a warm afternoon, and both sides hit the woodwork, but Leverstock secured the points with a goal from top scorer Rawn Seale 15 minutes from time. The early stages of the game had the feel of an end-of-season affair, with little in the way of chances at either end. Leverstock keeper Alfie Bonfield made the game’s first save in the 23rd minute, turning away Ronan Hutchins’ shot from a narrow angle for a corner. Tring enjoyed something of a period of pressure at this time, with a goal line clearance from Rio Beach keeping them out three minutes later. Leverstock’s first effort on target was a shot from Ethan Mooney in the 37th minute, but it was comfortably saved by Tring’s debutant keeper Ollie Keil. Five minutes later Rawn Seale showed some great footwork inside the box to carve out a shooting chance, but Keil pulled off a good save to turn it round the post. From the resulting corner Seale connected with a header that hit the bar, and the ball somehow stayed out in the ensuing scramble. The game was goalless at half time and continued as a tight struggle in the second half. On 57 minutes Seale had a chance at a run into the box and pulled the ball back for Mooney, but his shot was blocked. Four minutes later Mooney had an even better chance when a pass from Dan Pett put him clean through, but Keil stood his ground and saved with his legs. At the other end two minutes later Bonfield had to turn a shot from Harrison Cornick round the post. Leverstock had another golden opportunity on 67 minutes when a great pass from Kian Wilkes put Seale through, but his attempted lob over Keil failed to beat the keeper. However on 75 minutes Seale had another chance when he got on the end of a long kick from Bonfield to go through on goal. It looked as though the chance had gone away when he was surrounded by defenders, but Seale showed the persistence to carry on and stab the ball home to put his side 1-0 up. Tring pressed for an equaliser and had a couple of near misses. On 82 minutes George Carbery shot across goal and wide from a good chance, and a minute later Charlie Miller hit the post with a shot from the edge of the box. A draw would probably have been a fair result on the balance of play, but Leverstock held out for the win, with the three points ensuring that they will finish at least eighth in the Premier Division table with two games to play. Alan Lee Reporting Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division Holmer Green 2 Leverstock Green 2 Saturday 19th April 2022 Leverstock Green’s last two games of the season turned out to be against two of the three sides battling to avoid relegation, and in the first of those games they were denied a win by a late Holmer Green equaliser which earned them a point that could prove to be crucial in keeping them up. Fergus Moore made a few changes for the visit to Watchet Lane on Tuesday night, bringing in 20 year old defender Temi Bankole for his debut, and giving a first start of the season to Jamie Calvin. Leverstock got off to a fine start in the match, taking the lead in the 10th minute when an in swinging corner from Dan Pett was met with a glancing header from Rawn Seale into the net. There could have been a second goal in the 25th minute when Seale won the ball off a defender and ran at goal, but his shot was blocked, as was a follow-up effort from Calvin. Holmer’s most dangerous player looked to be forward Alex Dimitrijevic, who had threatened a couple of times before bringing a great save out of Alfie Bonfield with a shot in the 30th minute. There was another chance for Leverstock on 38 minutes when a Dan Weeks free kick was flicked on by Calvin to Jack Allen, who tried to lob the keeper, but it didn’t come off. A minute later at the other end Dimitrijevic was denied again by a goal line clearance. Leverstock took their 1-0 lead into the break, but didn’t make the best of starts to the second half. In the 48th minute a Holmer free kick was floated to the far post, where Oskar Evans came in with an unchallenged header to level the scores at 1-1. However, the scores were only level for two minutes. Seale and Sean Walsh exchanged passes on the edge of the Holmer box before Seale played a square ball across the box which was missed by a defender and landed at the feet of Calvin, who suddenly found himself in space with only the keeper to beat, and he did just that with a low shot into the corner of the net to put Leverstock back in front at 2-1. There could have been further Leverstock goals. Bankole shot just over the bar from a Pett free kick on 53 minutes. On 61 minutes an overhead pass from Ethan Mooney put Seale through on goal, but he pulled his shot wide. On 68 minutes Seale tried unsuccessfully to chip the keeper after some neat footwork in the box. Calvin was substituted in the 78th minute after a fantastic performance in which he won every ball in the air and proved a real handful up front. A minute later Leverstock gave the ball away in the opposition half and were hit on the break as Dimitrijevic sent a lob over Bonfield from distance to level the scores at 2-2. That was how the game finished, and by the end Holmer were playing to hang onto the point, knowing that it would send London Colney to the bottom of the table with one round of matches to play, and it is London Colney that Leverstock face at home in their final game on Saturday. PREMIER DIVISION Risborough Rangers moved level on points at the top of the Premier Division standings with a 2-0 home success against Harefield United, Rangers have a game in hand. Over at Oxhey Jets visitors Hadley assured themselves of third spot with a dogged 2-1 win. At the bottom of the standings both Crawley Green and London Colney picked up useful wins to keep their hopes of staying up, Green defeating visiting Broadfields United 4-0 while Colney won the big six-pointer 2-0 against Holmer Green in a game played at Colney Heath FC due to the floodlight issues at Cotlandswick, for Colney it was their first league win since the 7th December and sees them leap-frog their opponents to move into the third from bottom spot. Three goals in the first fourteen minutes set Baldock Town on their way to three points against visiting Ardley United on Wednesday evening, the hosts eventually running out 4-2 winners. DUDLEY LATHAM MEMORIAL (PREMIER DIVISION) CUP Quarter Final (Sponsored by S & T Sales and Marketing) Hadley reached the semi-finals of the Dudley Latham Memorial (Premier Division) Cup with a solitary goal success at Risborough Rangers on Thursday night, Hadley will now host Tring Athletic for a place in the Final. DIVISION ONE Stotfold claimed the Division One title in front of a crowd of 482 on Tuesday night when they defeated local rivals Shefford Town & Campton 3-0, the result leaves the visitors still looking for the three points to clinch a play-off spot. Winslow United, already assured of a play-off spot, won 2-0 at Langford on Wednesday evening thanks to a goal in each half. DIVISION ONE CUP Quarter Final Stotfold, missing several first team players who were attending a wedding, squeezed into the Division One Cup semi-finals with a 3-2 win at Wellingborough Whitworth on Thursday night to set up a home tie with Winslow United as they remain on course for a quadruple of trophies. DIVISION TWO Aston Clinton climbed to third place in the Division Two standings with an impressive 7-2 win at home against neighbours Tring Corinthians AFC thanks to a five goal haul from Ryan MacDonald, with games against Old Bradwell United and Bovingdon to come this month it makes for an interesting race for the title. Eynesbury United’s hopes of promotion took a blow on Thursday night, 3-1 up at the break they allowed their hosts, struggling Buckingham United, off the hook and were beaten by the odd goal in seven. For Buckingham it was their first win since the end of January.

EASTER WEEKEND HEADLINES Division Two side Bovingdon attract two big home crowds over the weekend. Ampthill Town and Shefford Town & Campton assure themselves of play-off places in Division One. The Easter weekend brought about 140 goals from the 35 games (an average of 4.00 per game). Eric Lopes (Broadfields United),Kobi Bivens (Wellingborough Whitworth) and Tom Brazier (Buckingham Athletic) all netting hat tricks. The Easter weekend Stats: 35 games played of which 18 were home wins, 13 away wins and 4 draws. PREMIER DIVISION Risborough Rangers returned to the top of the Premier Division standings on Saturday with a 4-1 win against visiting Holmer Green while morning leaders New Salamis were held to a 1-1 draw at third placed Hadley, Rangers lead by two points with a game in hand and could lift the title before the two sides meet on the final day of the campaign. At the bottom just one point separates the bottom three as Crawley Green won 3-1 at Dunstable Town while London Colney were beaten by a solitary goal at home against Harpenden Town. Elsewhere Broadfields United scored five for the first time since 2019 when defeating visiting Flackwell Heath 5-1 while Harefield United went down by the odd goal in three at home against Oxhey Jets. Baldock Town won the battle of tenants v landlords with a 3-0 success against Arlesey Town while Ardley United edged out visiting Aylesbury Vale Dynamos by the odd goal in five. Saturday’s other Premier Division fixtures saw Leverstock Green winning 1-0 at home against neighbouring Tring Athletic while it was honours even between Leighton Town and Milton Keynes Irish as they battled out a 2-2 draw at Bell Close. On Monday Leighton Town secured all three points with a 4-3 win at Broadfields United having survived a late onslaught by the hosts who trailed 0-4 with thirteen minutes left. DIVISION ONE Following the midweek title celebrations the party went a bit flat for Stotfold on Saturday as they were beaten for the first time since November, hosts Ampthill Town claiming the points with a solitary goal win and in doing so clinched their play-off spot. Shefford Town & Campton also made sure of the play-offs as they fought back from 0-2 down at the break to defeat visiting neighbours Langford by the odd goal in five. At the bottom Kidlington Reserves did their chances of finishing in the bottom three a world of good as they won 3-2 at second placed Winslow United and more on this later in the ramblings while for the two relegated clubs below them there were heavy away defeats, Irchester United lost 1-7 at Northampton Sileby Rangers and Burton Park Wanderers were soundly beaten 0-8 at Wellingborough Whitworth, for the winners the race for the final play-off spot remains. Elsewhere Long Crendon were comfortable 4-1 winners at home against Buckingham Athletic while Raunds Town enjoyed a 2-0 home success against Rushden & Higham United. Thame United Reserves edged out hosts London Tigers by the odd goal in three with in the other Division One fixture played on Saturday Letchworth Garden City Eagles won 4-1 at home against Bedford and as one groundhopper witnessed it wasn’t just football that took centre stage on the pitch – LGC scored first at 19 minutes in, even though B looked the stronger team in the first half. LGC turned up the pressure in the second half, putting another 3 past the B GK. With a short pause in play when one of the LGC bench staff ably removed some fox poo from the pitch. Twenty four hours earlier on Friday night Penn & Tylers Green entertained Amersham Town and the bank holiday local ‘derby’ served up a cracker for P&TG’s largest crowd of the season with the hosts winning by the odd goal in five. On Monday Buckingham Athletic were the day’s biggest winners with a 6-0 win at relegated Burton Park Wanderers while champions Stotfold edged out visiting Penn & Tylers Green by the odd goal in three. Raunds Town drew 0-0 at home against London Tigers while there were Bank Holiday away wins for Letchworth Garden City Eagles (4-1 at Kidlington Reserves) and Amersham Town who won by the odd goal in three at Shefford Town & Campton.

DIVISION TWO The big game in Division Two on Saturday saw third placed Aston Clinton travelling to second place Bovingdon, with both sides still in the hunt to win the title it was no surprise it attracted a large crowd (175). Aston, currently the form team, secured the points from a hard fought battle with a solitary goal win and as a result the clubs swopped league positions with Aston now six points behind the leaders Old Bradwell United with two games in hand and the sides meet at the end of the month, for Bovingdon the defeat has virtually killed off their hopes of being crowned champions. Eynesbury United moved back into the top five and a promotion place with a 2-0 home win against bottom club Tring Corinthians AFC, both goals coming in the first half while elsewhere on Saturday Sarratt edged out Codicote by the odd goal in three and Totternhoe enjoyed a 3-1 win at The 61FC (Luton). On Monday another large crowd turned out at Bovingdon (225, the season’s highest for Division Two) and they witnessed the hosts hammer struggling Buckingham United 8-0 with eight different goalscorers while Aston Clinton closed to within three points of leaders Old Bradwell United with a 3-0 win at bottom club Tring Corinthians AFC. Elsewhere Milton Keynes College Football Academy won 41 at neighbours New Bradwell St Peter and the local ‘derby’ between Totternhoe and Pitstone & Ivinghoe ended all square in a 1-1 draw. DIVISION TWO CUP Semi Final Milton Keynes College Football Academy reached the final of the Division Two Cup with a hard fought win over current table toppers and holders Old Bradwell United. College, in their first season in the SSML, were 2-0 up at the break and had to weather a second half fight back from their visitors before winning by the odd goal in five to set up a date next month against either Tring Corinthians AFC or Totternhoe. AND FINALLY COMMITTEE AWAY DAYS League Board member, Bob Flight, travelled to Winslow United and sends this report:On Saturday Winslow United welcomed strugglers Kidlington Reserves to the Gate for an expected home win. However, it did not turn out that way as the visitors left with all three points. Kidlington began well and it was no surprise to the watching crowd when they scored on 12 minutes when Sam Jenkins converted a right wing cross at the far post. Whilst Winslow plugged away, their best effort was a cross cum shot that hit the visitor’s crossbar and bounced away to safety. Just when Winslow though that they had survived the half with just a goal difference, Kidlington scored again on 40 minutes when Ryan Jackson shot the ball home from just inside the penalty area. The second half was better for the home team although they shot themselves in the foot when a player was sin binned on only 55 minutes. Kidlington scored a rather fortunate third goal on 61 minutes when a shot was blocked but the ball looped up and fell nicely to Sam James to volley into the home net. At last, Winslow now started to play much better and they were given a lifeline from the penalty spot on 66 minutes. But the weak kick was saved by the Kidlington keeper but as the ball bounced back into play another Winslow player was on hand to score. Winslow had another effort well saved and shot that went just over the bar. However once again they pressed the self-destruct button when they had Lucheus Lawrence sent off for foul and abusive language. Thus they had to play the remaining 15 minutes with ten men. To their credit, Winslow pressed forward and this was rewarded on 87 minutes when they scored when a player ran through the Kidlington defence to put the ball past the visiting keeper. Whilst Winslow continued to press in the final few minutes of the match, including injury time, for the equalising goal, it was too little too late and Kidlington held out for an important win. This result still leaves Winslow in a play-off position and eases any relegation fears for Kidlington. London Colney FC Club History
London Colney Football Club was formed in 1907, playing at Whitehorse Lane until moving to its present ground at Cotlandswick, London Colney in 1976. The Club played in the Mid Herts League until the mid-fifties, when it joined the Herts County League. The Club has enjoyed many successes over the years with the 1st team winning the Premier Division League 3 times between 1986 and 1990, and the reserves winning the Reserve Division 4 times between 1987 and 1992. Season 2017/18 saw a new consortium headed up by Chairman Gareth Davies along with former Peterborough, Watford and Birmingham centre forward Ken Charlery agreeing to become the new custodians of the club which was perilously close to folding. The season started brightly with the Blueboys top of the league after the first 6 games which were a remarkable achievement considering the club had no players with less than 4 weeks to go until the season started. With a very young inexperienced squad (no less than nine under 19s) the early pace could not be maintained and the club finished the season in 13th place while also reaching the semi-final of the League cup before going out to Risborough. Leverstock Green FC History & Honours 1919 - 1921 28th August 1920 - the following note on Leverstock Green’s Football Club appeared in the Hemel Hempstead Gazette: Mr.. L.R. Seabrook is this year the Secretary of the Leverstock Green Football Club whose headquarters will be at “The Leather Bottle”. Last year’s secretary Mr.. D. Cox is assistant secretary; H. Gentle is Captain and A. Hobbs “vice”. The club are anticipating a good season and have entered the following competitions: West Hertfordshire League (Div.II), Minor Cup, Webster Cup and the Hertfordshire Junior Cup. VICE PRESIDENTS CLUB 2021-22 Leverstock Green Football Club would like to thank the Vice Presidents for their help and assistance pledged for last season. Alan Brett, Colin Bull, Bill Dawes, Peter Dennis, Jim Doble, Peter Frasier, Phil Gray, P Isaacs, Tony Smart, Roger Stokes and Sue Hollick As in previous seasons the donations made by our Vice Presidents have assisted us in providing many improvements. Step 5 and Step 6 Promotion and Relegation Changes have been made to the promotion and relegation guidelines given in the summer for Step 5 of the FA’s National League System. This is due to vacancies that have arisen in the NLS for a variety of reasons. At Step 4, the 8 Clubs finishing 4th bottom and 2 clubs ending 3rd bottom with the highest PPG now do not have to take part in the Inter-Step Play-Offs. This leaves 6 eligible Step 4 Clubs for the Play-Offs and 16 eligible 2nd placed Clubs at Step 5. As a result, the Clubs finishing in 2nd position at Step 5 are ranked on PPG with the 10 highest being automatically promoted. The 6 remaining Step 4 Clubs and 6 remaining Step 5 Clubs are placed into geographical groupings and paired by PPG as per the Play-Off Criteria 12 Clubs finishing in the bottom two across Step 5 will now be reprieved from relegation ranked on PPG. It has to be noted that the above situation is the current position and could change if the Committee feels there is a valid reason in the best interest of the NLS.
