We're targeting discrimination in football. Can you help?

We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination in football. We’re calling on clubs and leagues like your own to report hate, prejudice or discrimination whenever you see it or hear it. For those people who behave in a racist, sexist or homophobic way, the message is clear. Enough is Enough. When we know it has happened, we can take the actions needed to remove discriminatory behaviour. We'll be doing so through a range of punishments: • Players will be removed from play and suspended. • Teams can have points deducted. • Grounds can be closed for repeat offenders. Together we can end hate in football. Spread the word that discrimination of all forms will be punished. Share with your welfare officers, league and club officials, and everyone across your league and clubs. We want everyone across grassroots football to know... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. TELL US, WE’LL TACKLE IT.

Scott and Ferg’s 250th Game Scott and Ferg’s 250th game in charge was last week. So we would like to thank them for what they have done for the club, and for their continuing efforts to bring the club as far as they can. Dan caught up with Scott after the game and asked him some questions about the time they have been with the club. Q - Your first competitive game in charge was a 1–0 FA Cup defeat away at Stanway Rovers back in August 2021. If you could go back to that dressing room before kick-off, what would you tell yourselves knowing what the next 249 games would bring? A - I would say to trust in the process that we believed we could create from the first training session. Accept the lows and don’t get too exuberant with the highs. Q- When you took the job, did either of you genuinely believe you’d still be here 250 competitive games later? A - I definitely didn’t expect to be anywhere near 250 games. When we first joined we invited all season before squad to pre-season. And from senior players only Dan Weeks actually stayed to give us a chance. Q - Looking back at the club you inherited compared with the Leverstock Green FC of today, what do you think has changed the most? A - Well the first thing we insisted on was that the bar stays open past 5.30 on a Saturday. We made a conscious effort to make sure

that any player we signed would buy into creating a club environment that everyone can enjoy. That’s committee members, supporters and players. Q- You’ve had some incredible days at the club. If you had to pick one single moment from the first 249 games that stands above everything else, what would it be, and why? A - That’s an easy one. The play off Final. To have 1000 supporters in Pancake lane. The work everyone had to do in a few days to play the final was amazing and probably something the club will never do again. Then for the players to play the way they did in the final was just incredible. Q - And on the flip side, what has been the toughest moment you’ve experienced as managers? A - Probably last pre season. After staying at step 4 on last game of the season we hoped that players would want to return and push on the following season. This was not how it happened. We only had a few players willing to stay. Recruiting was hard due to financial constraints. Every player we approached thinks we are step 4 and loads of money like everyone else in the division. What know realised was we got promoted on no budget and stayed up on £15 a week per player. Credit must go to the group of players that stayed because result was hard to come by but they stuck at it and trusted us as staff to get players in and turn it around. Q - Last season saw the club achieve its highest-ever league finish. What did that achievement mean to you personally? A - Finishing in the clubs highest ever position of 12th at step 4 was just unbelievable. As I said last pre season was tough and then to think we entered the bottom 4 of the league around about Xmas. To

then finish 12th. All credit players who stayed and the new recruits we managed to get in. Ferg’s little black book and Aaron’s constant messaging of players really did the trick. Q - You’ve been side-by-side for 250 games. What do you think is the biggest strength of your partnership and what does the other one do that drives you absolutely mad? A- I would say our biggest strength is that we both hate losing and are passionate about football. We don’t always see eye to eye. Neither of us are yes men. We would say our point on selection of team and tactics and then between us go with what we think is best for the team for that game. As for drive me mad it has to be Ferg on the sidelines. Doesn’t matter if he is praising a player or having a go at them. It’s always in a tone that feels it’s more having a go. There is no difference. I’m sure the players always think he is having a go. Oh also when Ferg decides to show everyone his lucky Paddy power pants. Thats a sight no one needs to see. Q - When your time at Leverstock Green eventually comes to an end, what do you hope people will say about Scott and Fergie’s time in charge? A - As for after we go you hope that supporters and club staff will see that we created that environment we promised in the interview. A club everyone can be proud of. That we also achieved promotion and cup wins during our time with memories for everyone associated with the club. The truth is what people say will not bother me at all. As it will probably mean we have been sacked so people will think that we deserved to go as results not good enough.

Visiting Club History:

Though formed as recently as the summer of 2017 the roots of Beaconsfield Town FC stem from Beaconsfield SYCOB which was founded in 1994 following a merger between Beacons- field United and Slough Youth Centre Old Boys (hence the “SYCOB” in the Clubs name). United datedback to 1921 and were themselves a coming together of two local teams whilst Slough Youth Centre formed their first football team in 1938. With Slough Youth Centre Old Boys unable to progress due to a lack of ground provisions and United themselves struggling on and off the field at the time the decision was taken to amalgamate the two clubs and so Beaconsfield SYCOB was born. Initially playing in the London Spartan Premier Division, and with Fred Deanus as Chairman, Beaconsfield SYCOB chalked up a series of Top Five finishes before finally winning the league in 2000 / 01 under the guidance of Simon Delahunty. However they were refused promotion to the Isthmian League due to some harsh technicalities over the terms of their lease. A further three seasons were spent in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division before Beaconsfield SYCOB again won the league in 2003 / 04 and this time gained promotion to the Southern Football League (Division One East). The Rams made solid progress in their early years at Step 4 and over three seasons played in three different leagues – Division 1 East, Division 1 West and finally Division 1 South & West from where they were relegated in 2006 / 07. How- ever the appointment of ex-player Jamie Jarvis, ably assisted by Peter Scott and with Bob Breen as Chairman, saw The Rams not only win the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division at the first attempt but also win the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy and the Premier Division League Cup, a fantastic treble of silverware. Promoted to Division 1 South & West, the club finished a highly creditable fourth place and made the Play Offs before losing out to AFC Totton. Moving to the Southern League Midland Division for 2009 / 10 and with Fred Deanus re- turning as Chairman, Beaconsfield SYCOB then went through a succession of managers, players, highs and lows until finishing in bottom place in 2010 / 11.

Only a reprieve and a league restructure saved The Rams from the drop but since then they have gone on to over achieve for a club of its size. Under the guidance of Byron Walton they finished fifth in the 2011-12 season and lost out in the Play Off Final to Bedworth United. The following season and with James Pritchard at the helm they again finished fifth but lost out to Rugby Town in a Play Off Semi-Final though the season did finish with some silverware following a fine win over Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup. 2013-14 saw Gary Meakin take over as manager just five days before the start of the season and with only five players on the clubs books – to finish 8th and reach the Quarter Finals of the League Cup was a fine achievement as was a runner up spot in the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup, Chesham United gaining revenge for defeat twelve months earlier. The 2014-15 season saw a partnership with the FAB Academy who provided the bulk of the teams players under the stewardship of Andy Hurley and Nas Bashir. That partnership continued into 2015-16 season with Geoff Warner as manager as The Rams finished in a respectable ninth place whilst the 201617 season saw them under the joint stewardship of Andy Hurley and Leigh Wooldridge and ended with a 16th place league finish though a run to the Fourth Qualifying Round of the F.A. Cup was a “Best Ever” for SYCOB. The 2017-18 season saw the return of Gary Meakin as the first manager of the newly named Beaconsfield Town, with Chris Coyle as Chairman. The Rams had virtually a whole new team and, helped by an amazing away record, they kept in touch with the League pacesetters to finally gain top spot on the last day of the season and claim the Evo-Stik League South, East title. Competing at Level 3 for the first time in their history in the newly formed EvoStik League South Premier South division, The Rams achieved a highly credible 12th place finish as well as reaching the First Round of the F.A. Trophy for the first time in their history, losing out to eventual finalists Leyton Orient. The truncated 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons saw plenty going on off the field as the club expanded with the establishing of an Academy as well as Under 23 / 18 / 17 and 16 teams and plans in place to add further age group sides as well as a Ladies team. A brand new 3G playing surface was commissioned over the summer of 2021 as The Rams look to build for the future both on and off the pitch. Come On You Rams !

Leverstock Green

1 vs 1

Milton Keynes Irish

Leverstock Green added another point to their total, but they are still looking for their first league win of the season after a 1-1 draw against MK Irish on Saturday. It was a game that offered few clear-cut chances for either side. In the 18th minute Leverstock keeper Ryan North did well to gather a cross from Cairo Taylor that took a deflection in the six yard box. At the other end two minutes later a long throw from George Mitchell-Gears was headed back across goal by Joe McCarthy to Jack Allen, who couldn’t get a clean strike on the ball. The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute from a free kick that was given away unneccesarily. The ball into the box was caught by North but he couldn’t hold onto it and as the ball fell from his hands it hit MK’s Clinton Zawe and deflected back into the net. The equaliser came from another free kick in the 41st minute. Carmicheal Uchenna delivered to ball towards the far post where Callum Neal came in unchecked to head home his third goal of the season, making him currently Leverstock’s top scorer. The second half saw Leverstock have most of what chances there were. In the 48th minute Ademide Baruwa put the ball across the face of goal but it just eluded McCarthy sliding in. Three minutes

later Iker Noguera Leon made a run into the box but his shot was over the bar. North made a good save in the 63rd minute when Nathaniel Emond was through on goal for MK, deflecting the shot over the bar. There was almost a second goal for Neal in the 79th minute when he got a glancing header at the near post from Uchenna’s corner, but it was cleared off the line. In the 85th minute Ashton Corder got on the end of a cross from Neal with a volley that looked like it was heading in but took a deflection off a defender to go wide. 1 vs 2

Leverstock

The Under-18s continued their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 win at neighbours Hemel Hempstead Town in their second SCFYL Corinthian Division match. Ashton Corder opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Finley Clark made it 2-0 just before half time. Hemel pulled a goal back in second half stoppage time but Leverstock held on for the win.

Hertford Town

1 vs 1

Leverstock Green

Leverstock Green are still finding their first league win of the season to be elusive as they picked up their fourth draw from seven games in Saturday’s visit to Hertford Town. Leverstock led at half time but suffered from questionable decisions from the match officials in the second half. The Leverstock squad is now facing life without Carmicheal Uchenna, who has been snapped up by National League side Wealdstone this week, and it was the home side who made the running early on with Kieran Barnes striking the bar with a shot in the 2nd minute, and hitting another shot just wide in the 9th minute. Iker Noguera Leon had a run at goal in the 11th minute but hit his shot high and wide. In the 19th minute Ashton Corder broke away and passed to Leon, who had another effort at goal which was much closer, going just wide. Leverstock keeper Ryan North produced the first of several great saves in the 34th minute to keep out a Ben Herd free kick, and again in the 39th minute to turn away a shot when Olu Quadri broke away down the right. However, it was Leverstock that opened the scoring a minute before half time, as Ademide Baruwa’s pass set up Leon to slot a shot under the body of former Leverstock keeper Josh Bowler.

Leon went close to a second goal in the 51st minute as he attempted to chip Bowler from near the halfway line, but it landed just wide of the goal. However, things were soon to turn sour for Leon. A minute later he was cautioned for an off-the-ball incident in a clear case of mistaken identity, as he was nowhere near the incident. As Leon continued to protest his innocence, the Leverstock bench attempted to substitute him with Joe McCarthy, but with McCarthy on the field, the referee consulted his assistant and then decided to show Leon a second yellow card and cancel the substitution, meaning that Leverstock were down to ten men. McCarthy eventually came onto the pitch in the 63rd minute to replace Corder, and three minutes later he was through on goal and onside, but elected to square the ball for Baruwa, who had a much better chance, but as Baruwa put the ball in the net he was flagged for offside, despite having likely been behind the ball when McCarthy passed. Instead of being two goals up, they were brought back on level terms in the 69th minute. Another free kick was given away just outside the box, and this time Hertford player/manager Herd curled his free kick beyond the reach of North for the equaliser. Leverstock’s ten men were somewhat under the cosh for the remainder of the game, but North produced two great saves in the 71st and 72nd minute, and Hertford had a

couple of good chances from close-range headers but both were off-target as the Green side held out for the point, which was the least they deserved from the match. Hertford Town (0) 1 (Herd 69) 1. Josh Bowler, 2. Albert McGregor, 3. Jesus Mendoza, 4. Kieran Barnes, 5. Harry Watson (15. Fraser Findlay 75 mins), 6. Ben Herd, 7. Ayo Quadri (17. Shay TaylorDarcheville 64 mins), 8. Leverstock Green

5 vs 0

Ware

Leverstock Green finally put their first league win of the season on the board at the eighth attempt, and they did it in style with an outstanding team performance and a 5-0 win over Ware, who earlier in the season had put five past Leverstock in an FA Cup tie. The two teams went into the game as the only remaining teams in the division without a win, and it was a slow start to the game before the chances started coming. The visitors went close with a glancing header in front of goal that went wide in the 20th minute, while Ademide Baruwa had a run at goal in the 30th minute but shot straight at keeper Fred Burbidge. Three minutes later Burbidge pulled off a great save at his near post to keep out a shot from George Mitchell-Gears, and at the other end Ryan North did well to turn a flick from Josh Hutchinson over the bar. In the 35th minute Marcus Warren’s pass gave Iker Noguera Leon a run at goal, and the Spaniard took the ball past several defenders and Burbidge before slotting home to put Leverstock into a 1-0 lead. Two minutes before the break Ware were reduced to ten men when Max Granville was shown a straight red card, not for the tackle that brought down Ademide Baruwa but for words said afterwards.

Leverstock took their lead into the second half, and in the 55th minute a pass from Leon to Joe McCarthy should have been dealt with, but confusion between Burbidge and a defender allowed McCarthy to take the ball past both and run it into the empty net for a 2-0 lead, the first time Leverstock had scored twice in a league game this season. North produced another good save in the 59th minute to keep out a Ware free kick, with Kombe Kawimbe blocking an effort from the rebound, producing shouts for handball from the Ware players but nothing from the referee. There could have been a third goal in the 74th minute when McCarthy broke away from his own half before laying off to Leon, but his shot was blocked by a defender. The third goal arrived in spectacular style in the 80th minute when substitute Timi Bada received a pass from Warren and hit a superb strike from the edge of the box to notch his first goal for the club within two minutes of coming off the bench. It got even better for Leverstock as the game ticked into stoppage time. Firstly Leon notched his second of the night, controlling the ball and squeezing in a shot at the near post after Burbidge had parried a shot from Ashton Corder, and a minute later Jack Allen added his name to the scoresheet with an emphatic finish from six yards to complete a superb 5-0 result.

By Matt Badcock Editor, The Non-League Paper FA CUP replays - specifically the lack of them - has been a huge talking point in recent years. They’ve been gradually phased out of the proper rounds so that all results are decided on the day. No more holding on for a draw and a second pay-day for Non-League clubs. It’s extra-time and penalties now, all wrapped up before Strictly Come Dancing starts. Replays, however, do live on in the qualifying rounds and they certainly delivered in the second round qualifying. No fewer than half a dozen clubs from the National League South were humbled by lower league opposition in replays.

Maidstone United and Farnborough both succumbed to 2-0 home defeats to Step 3 Cray Wanderers and Uxbridge respectively, while Hemel Hempstead Town lost 2-1 away at Wingate & Finchley. Hampton & Richmond Borough and high-flying Westonsuper-Mare were both humbled by Step 4 opposition; the Beavers going down 3-1 at Crowborough Athletic and the Seagulls shot down on penalties by Tim Sills’ Wimborne Town after a 1-1 draw. Crowborough host Wimborne this weekend and boss Sean Muggeridge was excited about another big day. “Sometimes it’s harder because the expectations have gone up a bit,” Muggeridge told The NLP. “Wimborne are a good side, I know they are. If they’re even drawing with Weston-super-Mare they’re going to be a very good side. “We haven’t become Man City overnight! We won that game on Tuesday night with pure determination – and absolutely brilliant goals. “Let’s embrace and enjoy this moment, however long it lasts. We’re not going to win the FA Cup – so let’s embrace and get some enjoyment out of it because this is what the game is all about.

“I’d said to the chairman it’s going to be entertaining this year. There’s going to be goals. I just can’t tell him at which end!” And in the biggest shock of the night, Step 5 Cirencester Town, 11th in the Hellenic League Premier, knocked out Farnham Town 2-1 on the road, thanks to Harlie Price’s brace and last-minute winner. Ciren travel to Truro City aiming to cause another upset and reach the fourth round qualifying where the Step 1 clubs enter the fray. “We’ve had our highs and lows over the years,” manager James Mortimer-Jones told The NLP. “The club took voluntary relegation three years back now and that was obviously a low for people who have stuck around. “We started a team from scratch. We took a few drubbings. In my first FA Cup game we lost 7-0 to the local rivals. To have that flip round and go on a great run with the people who were there for those days makes it feel that bit more special.”

A few words about KitAid KitAid is a charity set up by, Derrick Williams MBE, who visited Tanzania on a WaterAid supporters’ trip in 1998. Derrick, being a mad footie fan, was amazed at the reception he received from children and adults in remote villages just because he was wearing one of his favourite football shirts (he follows Watford, Liverpool and Chesham Utd). After two weeks in Tanzania, a flame was lit in Derrick’s heart, and he was on a mission to provide kit and equipment to the bare-footed children playing with footballs made of tied string and plastic bags. Twenty-one years on, KitAid has lots of volunteers and to date we’ve sent out 900,000+ kits to children and adults in 55 different countries across the world. How to donate If you’d like to support the KitAid cause, the easiest way to donate your unwanted football kit, in order for us to find it a new home. Alternatively, if you don’t have any unwanted kit, but would still like to support us, we’re very grateful for any donations which will help to fund our annual costs as well as support other partnership charities where possible. We thank you for all your support. In working in some of the most under-privileged countries around the world, The Football Association is no stranger to seeing the impact the donation of something as simple as a shirt or a pair of shorts can make. KitAid has brought an enormous amount of pleasure and enjoyment to young and old alike through the gift of football kit and has shared the spirit of British clubs and the England team with communities in all corners of the globe. We are proud to be associated with KitAid and wish them all the best in their endeavours for the years to come. Jane Bateman, Head of International Relations, The Football Association
