Hi ho, hi ho ... it’s off to Daytona we go ...... Yes it’s that time of the year again when we make that trip to Daytona Beach for Bike Week! With the economy the way it is, this year’s Bike Week will be very interesting. Let’s hope that bikers from across the USA still make the trip down I-75 and I-95 to Florida and spend their money here in the Sunshine State! The Full Throttle crew will be here, there and everywhere as we will have booths set up on Main Street at the Boot Hill Saloon, Ormond Beach at the Iron Horse and Destination Daytona in front of the JP Cycles store. We will also be hosting our Annual “Let’s Get Crazy Party” at the Americano Resort and host a motorcycle show and pre-party at the Grand Seas Resort. You can also see us at the Boardwalk Bike Show. For a complete breakdown make sure to see our schedule inside this issue. I want to take this time to thank everybody who participated in our Motorcycle Expo that took place January 23-25 at the Harborview Center in Clearwater. It was our best Expo ever and I am quite proud of my entire staff. Make sure you check out the recap! If you are going to Bike Week, please make sure you ride carefully. Not only do we have numerous motorcyclists who are not used to riding in large crowds, but we have auto and truck drivers who think they own the roads. Mix into that liquor and the lack of sleep and you have an instant accident ready to happen. You also know the Daytona’s Police Department has a knack of giving out tickets for the smallest offense .... be careful, try to be quiet and obey the law. See you in Daytona!!!!

I would first like to thank all of our Bike Week Sponsors for their support! Without our sponsors, we would not be able to set up at three different locations around Daytona Beach handing out magazines and all types of goodies! To check out all the sponsors see page 124 in the orange section of this month’s issue. By the way, you might want to stop by our booths between 2pm till 4pm on Friday and Saturday both weekends as we will have Playboy Model Mia McKinley back at our booth signing autographs and taking pictures with her adoring fans! Here at Bike Week we will be all over the place taking pictures, test riding new bikes, and covering the great parties that are happening all over. We have a complete schedule of events and places we know we will be at, along with some of the other major events in this month’s issue on pages 134 and 135 with a locater map for easy reference. Please try and make as many events as possible, and if I may suggest one in particular is the FULL THROTTLE LETS GET CRAZY PARTY on Friday March 6th. Let’s just say some of the adult games and prizes get a little out of hand and there are always plenty of beads to go around if you catch my drift! April and May are looking like great months for upcoming events as well with the Leesburg Bike Fest in April where we will be teaming up with Fran Haasch handing out her info at our booth on Main Street and The Citrus County Bike Fest on May 1st –through the 3rd sponsored by Crystal River Harley-Davidson and many more. You can always find us easily at events, just look for our tent and come over and say hi. We usually have some great freebies and our reps are always there to answer any questions if you may be interested in advertising. If you haven’t noticed by now you can see that Full Throttle is still keeping it’s own in the motorcycle community and we are still over 110 pages strong. That is due in large part to all of our great advertisers each and every month. We are a free magazine so we depend heavily on advertising dollars to keep printing our product to help keep you informed on all the events happening. You can get an ad in every magazine across the state for as low as $100 and a full page for as low as $700. If you are a 501c-3 non profit corp. and are putting on an event we have special pricing for you also! I would like to wish a Happy Birthday to my dad this month. The poker run is an annual fund raiser to support the local Multiple Sclerosis support group which provides assistance to our veterans and civilians with MS to have a better quality of life. MS can strike and disable anyone without notice, as there is no cure, the best we can do is provide therapy and a quality of life for our veterans with MS. This is a must read article going out to some of the “Best Friends”, family and extended family a man could ever ask for. For those of you that could not make the Friday night VIP party at the Bikers Build off, you missed one hell of a party. If I may please let me set the mood of that evening. As Paul and Tracy Allen announced the opening of the doors for the first viewing of the Biker Build Off competitors, the doors swung open for a crowd of about 300. We entered the amazing showroom of 50 of the most exotic motorcycles and displays I have ever seen. - After about thirty minuets of walking around viewing and admiring these true works of art, I heard my name announced to please come to the center of the room where everyone surrounded a motorcycle that was covered with a black silk drape. Radical Randy and John Bennett gave a heart-felt speech to the crowd about some charities and benefits I have been involved with so many people and families in need over the years. I was totally awe struck. There was a roar of applause and flashing of cameras as they pulled back the black drape unveiling the Custom “1965 Black Beauty HD Pan Head Motorcycle”. The article may sound like I just received a Grammy because that is how I felt, but please read on anyway. It was a night I will never forget for the rest of my life. - I had tears in my eyes as I tried to speak and thank everyone that put in so many hours of love in building my dream. I have been a doer and giver for most of my life with expectations of nothing in return other than a smile, hug and occasional kiss. What these old and new friends did for me was so beautiful and thoughtful. You made an evening that was beyond my wildest dreams. - Thank you to the following from the bottom of my heart: John & Tanual Bennett, Dave Simpson of (Biker Burnouts). John and Tanual assembled the team below in secrecy for 10 weeks putting in countless hours to design and build my dream bike. How you kept it from me, I will never know and will always love you for. February and March have been extremely busy for the Diva’s. For those of you who were able to make it out to the LAMA’S party this past month, it was an outstanding event with fun, games, good food and great friends. We also held our annual “yard sale” to help with the money needed for some of our upcoming events and charities that we take great pride in. Thank you to everyone who supports us and came out to make some great purchases. February was the month for our yearly “Virgin” for those who have never tackled the Skyway Bridge. The Tampa Diva Angels joined us for the ride along with many guests who had a great time. This month, the Diva Angels would like to invite ALL WHEELS to our SECOND ANNUAL COOKOUT FUNDRAISER to be held on March 14, 2009 at Reddy’s Retreat, located at 129 Lakeside Drive, Palm Harbor on Lake Tarpon. Our State’s first Greek Governor, Charlie Crist, recently signed a new law that is supposed to increase funds to help balance Florida’s budget. This money is going to come from speeders around the state who are stopped by law enforcement. The new laws include one (I’m scratching my head on this one) that is punishing bicycle riders. The problem with the law is that it will punish any bicycle rider, including your son or daughter, regardless of age. The fines for all bicycle violations are now $57.50 (regardless of your age). “Now junior, sign this ticket or I’ll have to take you to juvenile detention.”

Anybody going 6-9 miles over the limit will pay $116.00. If you are going 10-14 mph over the speed limit it will cost you $191.00. If you are going 15-19 mph over the limit your fine is $241.00. Going 20-29 mph over the limit gets you a fine of $266.00. If you are in a school zone and you go 35 mph in a 15 mph zone, you pay $416.00.

All non-moving violations are increased to $101.00.

Variety........Baseball Cards.........And The Holy Grail ! Most people who collect motorcycles tend to stay with one or two types or nationalities, they are a bit cliquish, they stay in a brand or a style or maybe two but you rarely see a Brit fan with a Jap bike or a vintage Harley collector with a Euro bike. But I met an old collector early on in my sickness who owned ten bikes at the time and I asked him"how many bikes do you really need"? to which he replied "as many as you want, but no more than you can ride" I then wanted to know what type of bikes should I collect and he looked at me point blank and said"just like the bike"and that has been my directive, ride all my bikes at least twice a month and collect the ones I like. I collect to ride them I know that some out there collect as an investment,but if you buy a motorcycle purely for the investment, you are playing a dangerous game. If you are just going to sit on it and look at it, your money is better off elsewhere. Remember this, if you buy a motorcycle only to be sold at some future auction and don't ride it, well my friend you are not getting any dividends on it, and really you didn't buy it because you liked it you bought it because you think someone else will like it in the future and you could be wrong bubba. Don't buy junk and ask yourself,"do I really like this motorcycle"? I have done this 17 times and thats my main question, before I write the check, before I wire the money, before I trade my baseball cards, its question numero uno. It's so very strange how many motorcycles everyone thinks will become collectable and never do............. Just like the bike and don't buy junk Collecting bikes is a lot like collecting baseball cards when we were kids, but now we can afford bigger cards. Its an affordable second childhood, especially if you have a vision and are handy with a wrench. I also know of collectors who have so many bikes they have lost count and then there are some who collect so others like me can't have them, and thats just plain mean, really! lol. A variety of vintage bikes lets you experience different periods of time, history and technology and while 2 or 3 are not running and you are waiting on a part being located on foot at a flea market in Italy ,you have another bike to ride! I may break even on some or maybe not, maybe one of my bikes is my 401K but thats not the point of collecting. You see for many of us its the thrill of the hunt for the Holy Grail to pull in on a original paint bike that you bought for a decent price that none of your buddies knew about and they still think its cool that you got it.......... the Holy Grail of collecting.........a barn fresh/hidden find. Its a friendly sort of competition, we keep our cards close and when a card doesn't fit our hand, we deal it to a friend. We spend hours and hours on Craig's list, ebay, walnecks, chasing down leads from neighbors and classifieds. Spending more hours driving only to find a storage unit full of junk, but enjoying the road trip and the motorcycle enthusiasts we meet. Its the thrill of the chase, of finding lost history, buried treasure, the thrill of showing up at bike night to, "where did you get that"? Its the stuff collecting ledgends are made of. My collecting is a bit more broad then most, I have enduros, sport tourers,sidecars, 1,2,3, cylinders, air cooled, water cooled, kickstart,electric start, 106cc to 1000cc, they just have to be old, unique or special and most of all I don't want to bump into another one very often. I like rarity and I like original. I enjoy my times on all my bikes for different reasons and connections, I remember the find, the repair, the first ride of them all. They all have stories and they tell them to me as I ride or as I sit on a picnic table eating lunch with my obedient steed sitting near. Oh, the stories it could tell, I think all bikes tell stories, its just the vintage bikes have more chapters and we all are writing an endless book making new stories and friends along the way. Every ride adds a little soul, a little more personality to a metal and oil machine. The true test of a bike I find is when I look down at it and say out loud"Wow this is a great bike"! or on a rainy day, I go to the garage and have a cup of coffee just to look, to observe and I am

genuinely proud to own and ride this machine. Yes,I may have too many bikes but the need to rescue them to resurrect them from their doom in that abandoned garage and to let them make new stories ,well that overpowers being sane and sensible and vintage and antique bikes are not for the sane and sensible. Some ask me what its like to own some of these bikes, but I don't really think of it as owning them it is more like being a caretaker or curator of them till their next chapter in history. Many of the bikes I have now were posters on my bedroom wall. I desperately wanted my 1976 BMW R100 sport but I was 15, so it was a 1973 Honda CB450 for me. People in their 30's, 40's, 50's can go back in time, pretty cool huh? These are time machines my friends and come with the inherent problems of time and travel , these bikes still have their quirks, their problems and issues. If you are in a hurry, if you need perfect, if you are anal about details and rattles well than you need to know the past was very imperfect, and you my friends need new bikes, but I am ok living in the past. I may have a garage full of worthless bikes or it may be a treasure trove,it really doesn't matter either way, because I like them all. Cycle collecting doesn't require the cash of the Classic car market and it attracts a different crowd most members of the vintage bike gang are not in it for the money, but because they like their bikes.. Do not get a vintage bike and try to fix or update its stock personalities and quirks, its technology is 30,40, 50 years ago. The transmissions are not as sharp, the suspension is not as stiff,and they don't start as easy and leak oil, the electrics give you fits and they run hot and don't stop as well, and this is when they drove off the showroom floor! If you have to change history or improve upon it get a new retro bike, its cool, they are great. The Biker Attorney Extraordinaire, Fran M. Haasch, did what she does best and drew an amazing crowd of over 3,000 bikes to Quaker Steak and Lube on Wednesday March 11th for her Harley-Davidson Crossbones motorcycle give-a-way. The 11th Annual Thunder By the Bay Motorcycle Festival got the new year off to a great start, netting $71,000 The Florida Center. for Child and Family Development. A “Born To Be Wild” Kickoff Party, “Bikes, Bands & BBQ” Event at Payne Park, Poker Run (raising $12,800), and Downtown Festival/Bike Show were all a part of this fun filled weekend. Estimated attendance over the entire weekend was approx. 30,000. Those who attended got a chance to test drive a new Harley at the Harley-Davidson Dealer Demo Truck in town directly from Milwaukee, WI and had a chance to see the Budweiser Clydesdale Team out of St. Louis, MO. Since this Festival first began, over $780,000 has been raised from this annual event to help local children and families in the Sarasota area. There was plenty of love in the air on February 12th when Old Town H-D had their monthly bike night in Brandon. Friends in St Petersburg and Bradenton, who rode together, decided in 1996 they wanted to make their riding more organized and turn it into something they could gain recognition on the local bike scene. Forming a club was discussed but nothing was ever decided on. That summer one of them, Carl ”Road Dog” Laury, took a long bike trip and reunited with friends from Chicago’s Buffalo Soldiers MC (BSMC) while in Denver, Colorado. After traveling on to Sturgis, South Dakota from Denver, Laury also visited Chicago and was impressed with the openness of the BSMC in their home city. Upon his return to Florida, he began to work on the idea of starting a Florida Chapter of the BSMC with his two friends and the organization was created in January of 1997. The club quickly became known for its hard riding and long distance trips throughout the southeastern United States. Their club has grown, and the original chapter has given birth to six additional chapters in Fla. During that same period they grew from 3 chapters nationwide to 77 chapters internationally. Their organization prides itself on their historic connection with their ancestors through our military. Many of the members are still active duty, but most are retired or former military. With their background, they have strong organizational skills and professionalism with a level of energy

which has prospered and set new Fla. standards of hosting annuals and fundraising. Their connections with Dept. of Defense have afforded them to conduct events on Federal property like Ft Leavenworth, Kansas and they recently were invited to the Pentagon's celebration of the Buffalo Soldier legacy. African Americans have fought in military conflicts since colonial days. However, the Buffalo Soldiers comprised of former slaves, freemen an d Black Civil War soldiers, were the first to serve during peacetime. Normally you'll find them out on the road instead of tending a clubhouse, and the longer the ride the better. Having so many chapters gives them a rich and crowded schedule of events each year. Their chapters all host local charity events and by giving, they assist young people in their search for identity. From grade school presentations to College scholarship assistance they invest in the next generation. They host a yearly event on Labor Day weekend in Tampa and have found a home with the Brandon Harley Davidson dealer. With today's current president, Roy "Seawolf" Nixon, they'll host an event in Daytona Beach at the Dickerson Community Center 30 8 S Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd on March 6th and 7th in the evening they're hosting a BYOB event which includes food. If you're in the area you have an open invitation to come and hang out with some of these folks who share the road with you. On a final note, I would like to extend a special thanks to BSMC member Orrin "Black Knight" Fredericks for coming out to the Cari Hess Memorial ride; your support is greatly appreciated!

Hopefully you made it over to LAMA Tampa’s, 2nd Anniversary party; it was a great turn out!! There were plenty of people, awesome food, great music, vendors and they even had a jungle gym for the little ones! I really want to thank them for the certificate of appreciation; it’s you guys we appreciate! For those of you diehard supporters, the Cari-On Memorial ride was another great success! Even though threats of 80% chance of rain, we chose to CARI-ON…and had a great turnout! I want to especially thank the Pink Posse gals for their kind words. I was brought to tears and speechless, yes I SAID SPEECHLESS! Even though many called and although could not make it the

run, we appreciate your support. Support is what it is all about, and without it we could not do the things we do! On Saturday, February 14th, Main Street Zephyrhills, Inc. presented Music and Motorcycles. This event is known in the Biker Community and was very well attended. The day was beautiful, and as usual Zephyrhills held another blow – out affair with plenty of food, ice cold libations, live entertainment, great vendors, a kid zone and Bike Show. The Bike Show, sponsored by Nick Athanason, Attorney at Law, was a 12 class ride-in show with 2 additional categories added ------- Pro and Non-Pro Best of Show. The Bikes were spectacular and the trophies outstanding. Professional judging was done by Rev. Jim of Preachers Cycle Promotions. The Non-Pro Best of Show was won by Frank Long with his 1940 Indian, and the Pro Best of Show was won by Jerri Exner from Jerri’s Springers with his 2007 custom. This was the first time that I’ve attended this event, but it won’t be the last. See you at the next show on May 9, 2009.

S andy ’s Snapshots MUSTANG SALLY’S BACKYARD BASH Mustang Sally’s held their grand re-opening on February 7th with a Backyard Bash. This Biker owned and operated bar is one of Pasco’s favorite waterin’ holes. Carrie and her staff made everyone feel at home and did a great job. This was a sunny, full day event that started at 1PM and went on into the wee hours. There were BUD girls with ice cold beverages, lots of giveaways, a delicious Cowboy Cookout, live entertainment, and of course Riders and their incredible two-wheeled machines that thundered in from all over the area. As the day progressed, we were all having a rockin’ good time as we simultaneously ate, partied and were entertained by Crackers (The Musical Ambassadors to the Motorcycle World) and the Marshall Law Band. The crowd thoroughly enjoyed both groups. So remember, the next time that you’re out for a ride, stop in to see Carrie and her staff. This is a place where all Bikers are welcome.

FLETCHER’S H-D OLD TIME SWAP MEET On Sunday, February 8th, Fletcher’s Harley-Davidson held their Old Time Swap Meet at the “Lube”. There was a large group of vendors present, with all types of Motorcycle Stuff for sale that they have been collecting. But this worked out well, because there was a great crowd of buyers looking for that special treasure to buy. As usual, Dick Pritchard of Fletcher’s H-D did a good job getting the Bike Swap Meet together. So when you think about it, what more could a rider want. The day was brisk and sunny, new and used items were available for sale, the music was playing, the wings were HOT, the beer was COLD, and a GOOD TIME was had by all.

Ted here! After another month "On the Town." With little space and so much to cover, I'll make it quick. February 14th brought me to Black Widow Harley-Davidson/Buell for their 4th Anniversary Bash and Valentine's Day Celebration. What a Party! Full Throttle was there in full force with t-shirts, ball caps and tons of other goodies! I had the extreme pleasure of being set up across the way from The Dirty Girls' Mud Hunnys. These sexy Cupids were on hand to help with the day's festivities which included "Pin the Bar on the Shield" (Black Widow's own spin on "Pin the Tale on the Donkey,") and their Now Famous Tricycle Races! The day ended with audience participation as judges for The Best Chest and Hot Buns Competition. The event was a total success. Every vendor spot was filled and Black Widow had to create more bike parking as there were so many bikers in attendance. The Stonewall Band kept the music going, but what made the entire event so successful was the fact that there was always something new going on during the course of the day. Honda has introduced a motorcycle that doesn’t

look like a Honda! The 2010 Fury was unveiled in January at the New York International Motorcycle Show and the bike features a 38-degree rake and has the longest wheelbase of any motorcycle the company has ever produced. Frankly ... it looks like a chopper! The bike will be available in late March or early April and will retail for a very affordable $13,000. Last month I went to the Florida State Fair and had a great time riding the rides, playing games and eating, eating and eating! The best “viddles” I found included fried cheese on the midway, chocolate eclairs from Alessi Bakery, Scandinavian potato chips with melted cheese and (of course) strawberry shortcake. The weirdest item I found was chocolate-dipped bacon!! Say what?? It was a different taste that was salty, sweet, meaty and chewy all at the same time.

Well, here it is another month, and another article to write. This month has been a busy one for the Cap’n. Unfortunately it did not include much riding. When the weather was nice, I had to work. Oops there’s that “W” word…. Yep it too is a four letter word. Because of the Bike Week issue we have to put the magazine to bed early, so most of the events that I have on my plate for Feb. have not yet happened, so I guess I will have to dust off my crystal ball and gaze into the future a bit. For me this weekend is the Swamp Cabbage Festival in LaBelle, it should be a great time, and I am looking forward to it. Then of course there was the bike nite at RJ Bones on Highway 80, and Goodtimes here in Lehigh Acres. Check out their ads in the Blue Section. Speaking of Lehigh, when the President was here in Ft. Myers, I was searching for some used parts for my 4 wheeler, and I got a chance to watch as the Motorcade drove by on the way to the airport, with flags flying from the fenders, many Motorcycle cops, and of course the Secret Service. No matter what your political leanings are it is still pretty exciting to watch the big black Limo go by. Let’s see, another one bites the dust. A long time bike night staple here in Estero, Wing City, had to close

their doors. I was making the delivery of the Feb. issue, and there was a sign out front…”thanks Estero, we are closed.” My understanding is that there was some fiscal skullduggery. Wow, why am I not surprised in this day and age. The grand opening of a new venue, which I have talked about before is the end of February, I plan on being there to welcome Christian and his wife, both riders….to the Ft. Myers area. Look for the ads to come for Bourbon Street. A biker friendly, full service, bar& grill, lots of entertainment, and according to the owners special deals for Bikers. I will talk about it more next month. Well everyone that is going to Daytona, ride safe have fun, drink a beer for me at Boot Hill, stop by the FT booth and see Tony and crew, plan on going to one of the best partys in my opinion, the Leesburg Bike Fest….. If you're out riding here in SW florida, stop by at the Iron Rhino on 41 south of Maro, at the intersection of 41 and the road to Goodland, where by the way Sunday mornings is Stans, a fun time and a nice ride. Well I think Tony is chomp’n at the ol bit for some words of wisdom from the ol Cap’n, so as always ride safe to ride again, and my motto, Live to ride and ride to live. It was January 23rd 2009 at 8:30am. My client and I left Pinellas for a “Wild Hog”style adventure to the Keys. All bundled up due to a brutal 35F temperature, we departed. We were cruising until my rear tire picked up a 3” flat bolt. We were in the middle of nowhere between Miami and Naples on Tamiami Trail in the Everglades. Found out the closest HD dealership was Harley Davidson of Naples. It was about 3pm. These guys came, picked me up and changed my tire and the “Wild Hogs” were back on the road by 6pm. What amazes me is that these guys literally turned the dealership upside down to find me a tire it appeared was no longer in stock so I could get back on the road before closing time. These guys did not know me from Adam and Eve and they went beyond the call of duty like I have rarely seen in my forty some years of lifetime. An hour and a half of towing, a brand new tire and labor for a mere $298.00. Kevin Smith (my tow truck driver), Ralph Galietti (Sales Manager), Kenny Fell (Service Advisor), Mike Healey (Service Manager) and Alan Woolf (Mechanic) thank you!!! You guys rock! Good to know there are still people out there we can count on. Oh and I forget! If you are on Tamiami Trail, check out Iron Rhino Saloon!!! A little oasis for the two wheeled vagabonds in us! I had the opportunity to ride along with Kyle and Austin Petty during their visit here to south Florida. Kyle was attending a Red Cross event at Donald Trump’s Mar Largo Mansion on Palm Beach. Through a mutual friend I was able to get the chance to show the local area to Kyle and his son, with the help of Treasure Coast Harley-Davidson as they provided 2 motorcycles for the Pettys to ride. Members of the Enforcers MC Mother Chapter Flounder, Cheap, Thor and my self did the escort/tour guide duties. First thing we did was get Kyle and Austin out onto US1 for the ride up to Jupiter for a Coffee Stop. Thor the road captain took us through A1A along the beach crossing at Singer Island onto A1A ending at PGA Blvd. Turning on US1 heading north, once we hit Juno Beach we took a chance on A1A. PLEASE TAKE NOTE..... There is a LOUD Exhaust trap on A1A as soon as you hit Juno Beach. Signs stating that LOUD EXHAUSTS ARE PROHIBITED greet you at each end of A1A. Being it was the coldest morning of the year Lighthouse Dinner in Jupiter seemed like the go coffee break stop. Service was good and the coffee hit the spot - not a bad place to grab something quick. The group decided to head north for our un announced arrival at Treasure Coast Harley-Davidson. We pulled in and parked in the front lot, once Kyle removed his helmet heads started to turn. What was Kyle Petty doing riding around with Enforcers??? We were privileged to provide escort and guide the Petty’s along with security. Kyle is a down to earth guy and his son Austin is a polite young man. Customers did finally realize it was Kyle Petty when we had the staff photographer take some photos of the visit. James Labar and Pat Murphy were there to great the Petty’s and give them complimentary shirts from the dealership to remember the day. Kyle accommodated every customer that asked for a autograph and answered questions. All the time he smiled and was having a great time inside the dealership. After seeing the Ridley Bicycles and watching Pat Murphy exhaust himself peddling it with the gas turned off..... we decided to head off to grab a bite to eat down at Shorty’s BBQ on PGA BLVD. before riding back around Palm Beach to drop them off for the Red Cross fund raiser. Petty is active in many charitable causes, such as the Victory Junction Gang Camp for terminally-ill children, which he established to honor his late son, as well as an annual charity motorcycle ride across the country called the Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America. Here we are into March already and Daytona is just beginning..With so many bike nights, poker runs ,charity and limited writing space it is difficult to decide which one to write about as they are all for a great cause. One not to miss is the “Annual Church Crash” hosted by the Messiah’s Messengers at the Ft.Myers Foursquare Church. Well known for their “Champion of the Universe” slow races(both male and female) we go back each year hoping to win the title! In the female race, Chrome Diva Liz Demski has defended and held her title for 3 years and Doc. Fox from Sarasota has been the male champion for ever. Wow, it’s Bike Week already? Let’s get caught up, at the end of this past January, there was a huge swap meet held in Green Cove Springs. Love 2 Ride Bikers Consignment Shop and The Rehab Saloon held their 1st Annual Bikers Swap Meet. When I arrived, there must have been close to 100 bikes parked out front, and I was there early! I later found out that over 400 bikes had been through. My first stop was the Love 2 Ride Bikers Specialty Consignment Shop, Ike and Dee had just finished getting the store all set up, when the adjoining spaces became available. In about one month’s time, the store has tripled in size. Now there is plenty of room for all the parts, accessories, clothing, leathers, collectibles, nostalgia, I even saw a couple of r/c motorcycles and a jigsaw puzzle. They have also added a “for sale by owner” showroom! Outside, in the parking lot, Cripple Dog Hot Rods had some of their custom work on display. While I was in the store, Dee was fitting a customer with some riding chaps, turns out the chaps were a bit too long in the legs, so, out came the scissors, and in a few short minutes, another happy, properly fitted, well attired rider. That’s customer service, the way it is supposed to be! The Rehab Saloon is just about next door to Love 2 Ride, formerly The Rose Garden Pub, owners Clyde and Diane have instituted a new “3 Step Program”, and I’ll have to agree, it’s a good program to get into. Behind the Rehab, there was plenty of space for people to set up and sell/swap their ‘stuff’, and there was all kinds of ‘stuff’ available. I saw seats, pipes, parts, doo-dads, shirts, knives, knick-knacks, engine parts, thing-a-ma-jigs, artwork, tail lights, chrome, headlights, small appliances, but I didn’t see any ‘Ka-Nooten Valves’. There was a stage out back for the live entertainment, and a covered pavilion where there was some mighty fine eatin’ happening. Inside The Rehab, ‘therapy’ was in session and going strong, the front porch was just about full and the parking lot was filling up fast with chrome and iron. Permission was obtained from the owner of the adjacent field for cars and trucks. All in all, I’d have to say this was one great event, and look forward to the next one. February gave us a few chilly days in the beginning, but that didn’t last too long. It got nice real quick and the streets were soon resonating with that beautiful v-twin song. Just remember that when you are stuck driving your car or truck, keep a watchful eye out for other riders, they count on you just as much as

you count on them when you do ride your bike. Let’s watch out for each other, ok ? Don’t forget, Saturday March 21st, Cross Creek Steakhouse, on Lem Turner, just south of I-95 kicks off the Saturday Bike Night with a world record attempt at the largest beer bong. Also planned is a bikini bike wash, a bikini contest, live music, vendors, food, and drink specials. The fun starts about 6pm, I hope to see you there. Hello to all from Lil' Bit. It has been a very busy month and it looks like the start to an even busier March. The weather for the most part has cooperated even though it has been at times crisp & cold, with a lil' bit of the liquid sunshine mixed in too. But now it seems to be making the swing to warm beautiful days, which could only mean one thing, more seat time. BikesandRides.com has put together the 3rd Annual Mystery Dinner Ride which will take place rain or shine on April 18th. Go to there website for more details. Some friends & I took advantage of the great weather after 'church' @ Murray's Tavern and rode down to St. Augustine. The one good thing about riding with a group of good friends, is that they are there to lend a hand when things don't go quite right, thanks Shep. We stopped at several places during the ride, one being the world famous Oasis. The food and service simply second to none, thanks to Hoover & his staff. After leaving there, we stopped at the

Bar None Saloon. There, Neil made sure we were right at home - chilled trips to Mexico. There I met this wonderful lady named Sandra. She owns a very unique consignment shop called Clothing Xchange NF located at 260 SR-16, St Augustine, FL 32084. Great news for The Bayard Rooster, it's under new management. Steve Benaski and his staff inside the first week of taking it over has given the place a tremendous makeover. Be sure to stop in & see the changes & simply show some love. Hey everyone, hope it was a good month for ya’ll! Mine was quiet. I did have a benefit run on Jan 24 with APCNF & Columbia County Cycles. Turned out to be a beautiful day and not cold. They had about 65 bikes show for this run, and it brought in $1000 for Another Way. This is a good service these people do for battered women, so I was happy to help with the event. Listing all Bruce Rossmeyer has accomplished will take two thirds of my column but it is so impressive I ask you to bear with me as I share some of his accomplishments. Bruce’s face should be familiar to you - there are billboards of his Harley dealerships all along Florida’s highways. Bruce certainly was not “fed with a silver spoon”. Be it shoveling snow or mowing grass or whatever he could do, he always worked. One of his first ventures was when he sold ice cream on the beaches while he had a leg in a cast at age twelve. Bruce is not a complicated man. He sticks to basics, says what he means and does what he says. The man only owns sixteen (16) Harley Davidson dealerships across the nation, with the Ormond Beach location being the largest in the world. If you look it up and unless I am mistaking, you need a minimum of two million dollars in liquid money available just to qualify as a potential dealer for each dealership you want to own. There is a waiting list and there is no guarantee you will be approved even with loads of cash. Besides that, you need to buy your land and your building which is required up front. There is no denying this man has done a few things right. In February 2002, Bruce added a custom motorcycle shop to his empire by partnering with legendary Arlen Ness - creating Arlen Ness Motorcycles. This complements his Harley-Davidson

dealerships by expanding the types and models of bikes offered. With American Ironhorse, Texas Choppers, Rucker Performance, Daytona Boss and Arlen Ness custom creations, you will surely find one that is right for you if you prefer something other than a Harley-Davidson. Bruce being held solely responsible for Bike Week and being a key contributor of Biketoberfest, the place was busy like a bees’ nest when I walked into the Ormond Beach dealership to meet with him. Several staff members probably had to wipe my drool off the floor and a few bikes for sure (especially the Night Trains and a few Thunder Mountains!). I was cordially welcomed by Mandy (Bruce’s daughter). So I am waiting in the office and out comes the familiar, friendly face I saw on the billboards, modestly dressed with jeans, black running shoes and a t-shirt. The man is focused! I received a good old bear handshake and was promptly invited in his office. Framed pictures of Bruce with celebrities adorned his huge office as well as thank you letters or certificates of all sorts coming from community organizations from all over the place. Bruce is a founder and serves on the Board of Directors of Camp Boggy Creek, a Division of The Hole in the Wall Camps founded by Paul Newman. The biggest fundraising event that benefits the Camp is his very own “Daytona Harley-Davidson Ride for Children”. This charity motorcycle ride starts at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach and takes you on a scenic route to Camp Boggy Creek. Bruce made a commitment to raise $1,000,000 in ten years for the Camp and after the 10th Annual Ride

was over, he had raised $1,800,000 for the kids. The 14th Annual Daytona HarleyDavidson Ride for Children was held October 12, 2008, with over $3,700,000 raised to support the Camp. Bruce also serves on the Board of Directors for Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties. His involvement has led to the creation of naming rights to specific B & G Club locations. The Boys & Girls Club located in Holly Hill has been named “The Rossmeyer Family Unit” after Bruce committed $100,000 to the Club. He is actively seeking other corporate commitments from area businesses for naming rights to other clubs located in Volusia/Flagler counties. Bruce has been a major partner in the fundraising efforts for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. The Ft. Lauderdale Toys in the Sun Run is held the first part of December every year and benefits the hospital. This twenty-five mile Toy Run attracts over 30,000 bikers. Broward County completely closes major highways down for the police escorted ride to the park. Once arriving at the park, there are rows of vendors, eateries and major bands performing during the biggest one-day bike event in Florida. The Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital named a family sleeping room at the Visitor’s Clubhouse in “Bruce Rossmeyer’s” honor for his continuing efforts to help the children. Bruce also serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of

Broward County. His main bike related involvement includes being the cocreator and sponsor of the VQ Bikers Ball held during Bike Week in Daytona and Committee Chair and Title Sponsor of the Bikers Bash held the weekend of the Ft. Lauderdale Toys in the Sun Run. These events have raised over $2,000,000 since their inception for the benefit of Boys and Girls Clubs. Bruce wants to leave a legacy so his peers remember and respect him for his love of what he does. Most importantly, Bruce yearns to help the less fortunate hence his nick-name “The Big Man with the Huge Heart”. I personally prefer “Bear Soul” because it really sums him up: raw genuine soulful being, strong willed, generous, dignified and not to be messed with. I would bet my Night Train when kids see him; they probably just throw themselves at him for some major bear hugs. Heck! By the end of our chat, I even felt like hugging him myself but that would have looked a little funny. Bruce is the first one to admit his family more often than not got the short end of the stick when it came to his work and community obligations. Despite that, Bruce’s family is #1. A private man all around in that respect, Bruce is clearly proud of his children and grandchildren. Says his wife (Sandy) gave him a mandatory monthly Sunday church service to go to. Or else! Speaking of church, I said to Bruce that the poetic book of Job in the Bible deals with Job being very wealthy. That is, enough to buy Harley-Davidson altogether several times and sell it at a loss and not even feel it. Job had a beautiful family and was a good faithful man whom God himself took pride in for his loyalty. Then Satan comes and challenges everything and God allows Satan to attack Job whereby Job loses everything i.e. wealth, family and even health except his own life. The whole thing happens to see if Job will “curse” God which Job never does. Job however ends-up suffering so much that he starts “complaining” and feeling sorry for himself (I think many of us can relate to that one). Then Job is put back in his place by God Himself and Job repents. The end of the story is that God completely restitutes Job multiple times what he had before this whole ordeal. Much like Job, Bruce is

obviously wealthy materially. Most importantly, Bruce is also wealthy in the sense of the beautiful family he has. Lord forbid I said to Bruce but if everything was taken away from you, how would you handle it? Simply put, Bruce would rollup his sleeves, get back up to the grind the moment he could and carry on. With

that said, Bruce volunteers the fact he believes in God and that “A man can only receive what has been given to him from Heaven” Jn 3:27. Strangely enough, Bruce says he has never read a book in his life. Maybe Job would be a good start? Then he proudly says “…but I am good with numbers!!!”. I bet he is. Bruce’s favorite ride is a 2003 100th Anniversary Custom Harley Davidson Road Glide. When he was seventeen, he bought his first Harley Panhead and hid it at his brother’s place until his dad saw him riding it down the street. He either had to sell it or move out. He sold it. Kids today have it way too easy Bruce believes. They don’t want to do anything. They are spoiled and believe everyone owes them everything. There is no discipline. Teachers will be sued today just for raising their voices at a kid when the kid misbehaves. With the way society is setting the stage for kids these days it becomes too easy for them. They end up missing out on basic fundamental life values and survival skills. They are taught [when they want to be taught] how to get to the lake but not how to swim across it. As a kid and even now, Bruce always had to work harder than most because he felt

he was not as smart as the others. Hard work and good ol’fashion discipline is what got Bruce where he is. Paradoxically, this comes from a man who’s massive philanthropic activities are geared predominantly for thousands of children that are less fortunate. Bruce is proud father of five children and grandfather of nine grandchildren. He admits that if his own children would have behaved the same way his grandchildren sometimes do, he would have [lovingly] “smacked them”. So how should we read Bruce’s stance on this? Many believe Bruce has a balanced view of the good that can come out of “healthy and caring discipline”. Hardships can be good if we are willing to learn (kid or not) - they develop character in us. I believe Bruce would agree that making things too easy for our loved ones probably isn’t really helping them in the long run. Bruce is heavily involved helping children. He believes many people are in positions where they could do something but they don’t and they are missing out big time. Kids are our future and we need to invest in them not only with our dollars but with our time. Bruce has some sage advice to kids thinking about their career choice and their desire to accomplish something (I believe this applies to adults too): find what you really love to do and pursue it relentlessly not because everyone else loves it or wants you to do it or because it’s cool but because you love it. Support yourself pursuing it and success and peace of mind will come because you will do something you like. Personally I agree with this. I think it is better to die happy supporting yourself pursuing your love than to die miserable never even giving yourself a chance to try something you love. There is a good book about this approach called “What Color Is Your Parachute” and it changed many lives for the better including mine. Bruce believes you cannot define “success”. It is relative to everyone’s own objectives. One who pursues being the best he can be - whether being garbage truck driver or race car driver or teacher - and achieves it will be just as successful as one who pursues being an entrepreneur and manages to survive doing it. As for “failure”, Bruce believes it

Can you smell it? Bike week, sunshine-----no helmets-----can't wait to be in Florida with all my crazy friends. I've been all over: Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina.... My son is in Bagdad, I want him to come home,as I do all of our soldiers. I am grateful for them and pray for their safety and the welfare of their families. In some ways, emulate Bruce’s “best life practice� in our own communities and in our own life. Bruce has been married to Sandy for forty-five years. He freely and readily admits that Sandy put up with him through all these years, supported him and backed him up. Bruce is a family man who will be the first one to admit a lot of the good he

does is also for self interest. Now that is an honest statement! Many critics may frown upon this but at least Bruce is out there doing the good instead of criticizing the motives of those who do good. Bruce is not sitting on his laurels enjoying life’s leisurely pleasures and ignoring those who are in need. Worse of all would be for anyone to dwell on their own misfortune or feel sorry for whatever life throws at them and do OPUIJOH UP MFBE CZ FYBNQMF &BTZ GPS NF to write and say I know but those who care for me will quickly remind me of the words I wrote in this column if I ever was sucked into wallowing and feeling sorry for myself and doing nothing. Mr. Rossmeyer, I salute you for your genuineness, your sense of purpose, your values, your drive and your example. May you be blessed for the ripple effects of your accomplishments. Continue to remember however, acknowledge and consider Him who you claim to pray to every night. Him who has sustained your life and gifted you to accomplish so much and I believe the blessings will continue to flow. Lord forbids but should they cease? I believe as you said that you would simply carry on as it would be granted to you so others could continue to learn from you even in the tough times.
