September is here .... kids are back in school, the weather should start cooling off a bit and footballs are in the air! The state of Florida is a national "hot bed" for football. On the college side we have the Florida Gators, FSU Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes, USF Bulls and Central Florida Knights ... and that’s just naming the bigger schools! In the pro ranks, seasons start for the Tampa Bay Bucs, Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jags! No matter where you live, football is close by! Take a look at my "Fearless Predictions" inside this issue. September is also a month to remember the tragedy that crippled our nation on 9/11/01. We will be hosting a 9/11 Poker Run that will start at Brandon Harley-Davidson, travel to Tampa HD, Stix Billiards, Gulfcoast HD and end up at Zephryhills Music & Motorcycle Festival. Cost is $10 per hand (three for $20) and we will raise money for the Gold Shield Foundation (a charity that helps the families of fallen police officers and was started by George Steinbrenner). Sign up will be 10am til noon and include a few nice door prizes along with an early 50/50% raffle. I want to welcome Tony and the FT Midwest boys back from their trip to Sturgis. The photos were fantastic and the stories even better! I know it was an excursion that Tony will never forget and you’ll want to see his recap inside this edition! Thanks go out to Don, Jimmy and the rest of the FTMW gang for everything they did to make the trip a success! Make sure you keep an eye on our Cruisin’ Calendar as we have multiple events from now until the end of the year! This is the time when events start piling up and you will want to make sure you have your weekends planned out in advance. Good luck to all the state football teams and let’s not forget good luck wishes for the Tampa Bay Rays as they march into the 2010 World Series!

I finally made it to Sturgis for the first time ever! When the opportunity came up and we were sitting around in my office, I thought it would never happen. Steve, Don and everyone at Midwest Full Throttle Magazine said they would get my bike to St. Louis and I could ride with them. We put out thinking caps on and found a way to make it happen! I asked a few of our best advertisers and my closest friends if they would help me as a sponsor. We figured out a budget, how much we were looking for from each sponsor had four sponsors on board within an hour. That’s when it hit me that I was really going to Sturgis on the trip of a lifetime. My trip started in St. Louis and ended in Las Vegas. After talking with my mom, who had to be in Vegas for a convention, I decided to make the two day trip (almost 1100 miles) and meet her there. I made plans with Freight Center to get my bike shipped home and I flew home to get back to work and get this magazine to the printer. I was gone for two complete weeks, slept in a tent, rode across the continental divide, through mountains, in canyons and through the desert and had a total of just under 2800 miles for the trip. Ken at Cycle Ward serviced my bike and it made it with no problems, thanks Ken! I am truly grateful to all my sponsors who helped me make this happen. I can never express how much this trip helped me in both my business and personal life. Not everyone can do a ride like this, heck, some people thought I was crazy to ride by myself from Sturgis to Las Vegas. But I did it, I liked it and I feel victorious for completing it. I would like to take this time and thank my Dad for letting me go on this trip that had both business and personal sides to it. Being gone two weeks from work is a long time. Thanks Pop’s, love ya! I have hundreds of pictures, a bunch of video’s and some great stories from this trip. If you want to hear some of the fun stuff that happened, you can always chase me down at Quaker Steak on Wednesday nights at bike night under the Full Throttle tent. I will be posting all my pictures on our website and on our facebook page for everyone to enjoy. I would like to say the pictures do this trip justice, but they do not. Words and pictures will never be able to explain the beauty of the mountains and the feel of the spray from the waterfall in Spearfish Canyon. So enjoy my pictures and start making your plans for vacation time next year in August. I would like to say Happy Birthday to KMC and I am very excited that my two girls are doing great in school so far! Krysie is having fun in Middle School and Ash is really enjoying Kindergarten and loves her teacher. But best of all, September means football season is back and the holidays are right around the corner. Ride safe, be smart and have fun!

“I DID IT MY WAY”.............REFLECTIONS.... and........REMEMBERING

show a few chapters in a friend’s life. I’m not going to get “wordy” here for they say “A picture is worth a I had this month’s Classic Ramblings ready to thousand words” and they are corgo, great piece I thought and one I think you, my 56 loyal rect. Writing a $1 a month article has readers, would like. its perks and I’ve used one here. My But I realized I don’t make “new” close friends that friend Vince has been a big part in often (I am often told I don’t play well with others also ) In my chase to be MR 500 and became fact most of my friends are from decades ago. And I know a valued friend in the process. We all too well that in these last years we have lost so many have watched “Easy Rider” together, of our friends and brothers, riders and soldiers. I truly gone to bike week and shared each believe that everyone we have lost deserves a paragraph other’s bad jokes. This is not just for Vince but for all the or two and a photo , no they deserve a page, actually they friends, family and riders we have lost, I wish I knew them deserve an entire book on their life and times but in this all, and they could all have their stories told. So as you modern world of ours sometimes it does not happen. gaze at these pictures of Vincent and some of his “times” There’s so many stories to be told, anecdotes to be think of the loved ones you have lost. For you see our shared and photographs to be looked upon. And my friends, our brothers and sisters, they are never gone as friends its up to us, those still here to see that they long as you tell that one story again, or pin up that one are thought of,that they are still relevant. I think a picture on your mirror, your work bench or if these pages person’s success should be judged by the people make you pause and think of them right now. Everyone that miss them when they are gone. It seems to me who has passed from our lives, anyone that we miss, they we have lost a lot of successful people. My friend Vinare only gone if we stop remembering, so my friends......... cent “Batman” Campbell was one of them, so I have DON’T STOP............ decided to use the 240 square inches Full Throttle Thanks for the memories Vince. MR. 472 has given me to select some photos and quotes that

“Youth comes but once in a lifetime” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“We live but a fraction of our lives” Henry David Thoreau

“I don’t like to commit myself about heaven and hell - you see I have friends in both places” Mark Twain

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it”

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years” Abraham Lincoln “Winning takes talent, to repeat takes character” John Wooden

What's the story behind the name "MANX"? The Manx TT is an amateur road race held on the public streets of the famous Isle of Man road course, and is the longest running race of its kind. We're all street riders and track enthusiasts as well as long time Isle of Man fans. When we were considering names, Manx seemed to typify what we're most passionate about; Building reliable performance bikes that can be enjoyed on public roads and racetracks alike. Our first project bike, featured on the cover of this issue, here exemplifies that. Keep an eye on our website and watch as we continue progressing with upcoming projects. What made you guys decide to open up a shop in this economy? We went to a lot of shops and did a lot of research and saw what the industry was lacking. As long time cyclists we are looking to combine all the best elements we have seen into one location, plus we added a few of our own ideas to give it that personal touch. So are you strictly a sport bike shop? NOT AT ALL!! We are about anything on two wheels. From sport bikes to cruisers to dirt bikes and everything in between. What does MANX offer their customers? We offer the highest quality pre-owned motorcycles and the finest parts and apparel available to the industry and a broad in stock selection of the parts you need to keep your bike on the road. Performance to maintenance, WE HAVE IT ALL. Everyone is welcome here no matter what you ride. We have a biker’s lounge which features a big screen plasma TV. Enjoy a Moto GP or other race oriented DVD or kick back and play some Moto GP on our PS3. Our shop is a place for anyone from novice to expert level riders. Come join the MANX family! Meet life long friends and fellow riding partners. Don’t forget to ask about our up coming Manx Motorsports track days at Jennings GP as well as many more sure to be remembered events.

P.S. Grand Opening early October 2010, stop in or check our website for details. Its going to be BIG!!!

I wrote a few months back about red light cameras that if we try to stop and the guy behind us doesn't our heads could become hood ornaments. I am happy to say that the City of Brooksville in Hernando County has done away with the red light cameras so us bikers, friends and family can quit boycotting the City of Brooksville and the businesses in the City of Brooksville. We should keep on boycotting other businesses in other cities with red light cameras to put the pressure on the City Council's to get rid of them. The County Commissioner in Brooksville said that the cameras reduced t bone type collisions but it increased rear end collisions. Thanks to the City Council of Brooksville, FL. I would like to talk about swap meets for a little bit since it is one of my favorite things in life. The original and largest biketoberfest and bike week swap meet is put on by Jam On Productions. They were at the Volusia County Fairgrounds for years but they have moved 5 miles from Main Street. The directions are 92 West (International Speedway

Boulevard) turn left at Tamoka Farm Road and the swap meet is ½ mile on the left. It will be Oct 14-17, 2010. There is still a swap meet at the fairgrounds but people are complaining about it. The complaints are gambling and other things – is that really a swap meet? If you want the original, go to Jam On Productions. I don't know if any of you made it to the 500 mile yard sale – I didn't, but if you did, I hope you found a lot of good things. Speaking of swap meets, I am still at Webster meeting new people and having fun. Even with the hot weather, I am still having a good time. The girl Cindy who was helping me went to Kentucky to get away from the heat – it is hotter there. She will be back soon. Spooks and Scoots has changed their dates to the 1st 2nd and 3rd of October. As we all know, it was the #1 voted biker event in Florida. I haven't missed it in years and hope to be there this year. This is the 30th year. For further information about the event, please call 813-968-6621. See you soon, Sue and thanks for the helping with the dogs.

COULD THIS BE TRUE? In a shocking statistic that came from the Massachusetts-based Schott Foundation for Public Education, stated that Pinellas County fi nished at the bottom of their four-year study by only graduating 21 percent of black males in 2008. The same study said that 50 percent of white males graduated. The Pinellas County School Superintendent is saying the study is inaccurate.

BOSS MAKING A COMEBACK Look out car buff s ... Ford is bringing back the Boss 302 Mustang. The original model made its debut back in 1968 and the company says they are trying to create a successful, race-bred, worthy successor to the original. That means a stiff er body, enhanced aerodynamics, a higherrevving V-8 engine, better air intake, 19-inch racing wheels and tires, wider in the back than in the front and a boost in horsepower from the original 412 to 440. Look for the Boss 302 in the spring.

WHO’S HAVING SEX? In a very interesting study presented by the American Sociological Association, teenagers who have had sexual relations get lower grades and have more school-related problems than kids who abstain from sex. The study also stated that nearly half of all high school students reported having sexual intercourse and 14 percent of those have had four or more partners!

Laurence Fishburne is not proud of his nineteen year old daughter. The star of the television series CSI: Las Vegas and the Matrix movie trilogy, was not impressed when he found out his daughter did a porn movie. Montana Fishburne (aka: Chippy D) starred in a movie that was produced by Vivid Entertainment. The movie sold out its initial 25,000 copies and Vivid is talking to her about a long term movie deal. Daddy seemed overly upset with the fact that she used her real last name in the movie. Take it from us, she’s much better looking than her dad!

PUTS MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH IS... Think what you want about Bubba The Love Sponge but the man puts his money where his mouth is! Last month, Bubba gave the widows of slain Police Offi cers David Curtis and Jeff ery Kocab individual checks for $26,500 from his foundation. Bubba may ruffl e a few feathers along the way, but he has proved numerous times that he is a good hearted, generous, charitable man!

Scientists say they have developed a fuel for cars from the waste that is produced distilling Scotch whisky. Researchers at Edinburgh Napier University produced a fuel called butanol using leftover grain and the liquid residue found in copper stills. It is entirely made from waste products and does not require anything to be grown. It can be used in regular engines without any adaptations or changes. A patent has been fi led and the product will be tested in England.

WHY SO LOUD? Is there anything in the world louder than those new Sun Chip bags? They are made out of biodegradable plant material instead of plastic and they are the loudest things I have ever heard! There is actually a Facebook group called “Sorry But I Can’t Hear You Over This Sun Chips Bag” that has attracted over 30,000 fans. If you have never heard the noise that is generated from these bags, you gotta buy a bag of Sun Chips and fi nd out for yourself .... my favorite is the cheddar cheese variety!

HE’S A “SURVIVOR” The CBS television show “Survivor” will have a very noticeable face as one of the castaways this fall. Jimmy Johnson, 67 year old, former head coach of the Miami Hurricanes, Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys football teams will be one of twenty people on the show this season. He spent a good part of the summer in Nicaragua fi lming the reality show. Johnson said, “I can’t say I really enjoyed it, but I’m really glad I did it. It was a great adventure but at times it was miserable”. Look for “the man with the perfect hair” to return to his normal role on Fox Sports.

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside. “That laundry is not very clean”, she said.”She doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.” Her husband looked on, but remained silent. Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments. About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: “Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this.”

The husband said, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.” ***************************************** Charley was a retiree, and even though he didn’t need to get a job, he was bored so he got a job as a greeter at Wal-Mart. However, he just couldn’t seem to get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp minded , very neatly dressed, a real credit to the company, and obviously demonstrating their “Older Person Friendly” policies. One day the boss called him into the offi ce for a talk. “Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang up job, but your being late so often is quite bothersome.” “Yes, I know boss, and I am really working on it.” ‘’Well good, you are a team player. That’s what I like to hear. It’s odd though your coming in late especially since I know you’re retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you if you came in late there?” Charlie smiled and said, ‘’They said, ‘Good morning, Admiral, can I get you coff ee, sir?’ ‘’

A little boy was sitting on the walking path with a bottle of Turpentine. He was shaking it up and watching all the bubbles. A Priest came along and asked the little boy what he had. The little boy said, “This is the most powerful liquid in the world, it’s called Turpentine.’ The Priest said, “No, the most powerful liquid in the world is Holy Water. If you rub it on a pregnant woman’s belly, she’ll pass a healthy baby.” The little boy looked up at the Priest and replied, “Well, if you rub turpentine on a cat’s ass, he’ll pass a Harley Davidson!”

Stiffer Penalties are Needed for Careless & Negligent Drivers On August 11, 2010 Paul Sermon stood before the Judge in Sumter County FL yet again. This time it was only a th Status Hearing as he had already pleaded “Not Guilty” to his March 13 killing of four bikers. Luckily, he’s currently off the roadways while he is held on a $202,500 bond facing nine charges including four DUI Manslaughter and four Vehicular Homicide charges. Oh yeah, he was also driving on a suspended Driver’s License at the time of the fatal crash. Sermon will be back in court on October 13th, since the medical examiner’s and other reports weren’t back in time for today’s hearing. ABATE of Florida, Inc. members from Sumter, Seminole, Lake, Freedom, Nature Coast, and Marion County chapters, as well as “Doc”, ABATE of FL’s State President, and many other bikers were there with th the families at Sermon’s arraignment; ABATE members were there on August 11 , and we’ll be there in October. This is not an isolated case by any means. On March 6, 2010, Pamela Knight wasn’t paying attention while she was driving in Pensacola, FL. She failed to yield the right of way to Pastor Gary Laird on his Harley Davidson Ultra Classic (not a small bike by any means). Knight’s careless driving caused Pastor Laird to strike her vehicle; he was pronounced dead at the scene. ABATE of Florida members and other bikers were over 100 in numbers at her first court appearance on June 11, 2010. On July 16th 2010, the presiding Circuit Judge Joyce Williams held Knight’s arraignment. Knight, having prior Careless Operation violations, pled “No Contest”. This allowed for immediate sentencing, and the Judge allowed Debbie Laird to offer a Victim’s Impact Statement, as well as ABATE of Florida’s Gulf Coast Chapter President “Satch” to educate the Court on our Stiffer Penalties initiative and what we are about. After Satch’s dissertation, Judge Williams stated on the record that she supports Stiffer Penalties in cases similar to this. Knight was found guilty, received $1,166 total in fines, 6 months suspended of her Driver’s License, 50 hours of community service in a Trauma Center, and is required to attend the same motorcycle endorsement course that new riders must take, at her own expense. Many past violators in cases like this have only received $87 tickets! Although the Judge handed down a heavier sentence than the typical $87 ticket in these all-too-often cases, after numerous violations and finally killing someone, Pamela Knight is still essentially a free person. We applaud Judge Williams’ application of available penalties, but this case is another example of the need for stiffer penalties to be available to the Courts. For the last few years ABATE of Florida has been attempting to get a Stiffer Penalties Bill through the Florida Legislature, one with jail time guaranteed to those killing motorcyclists. We almost succeeded in this past Legislative Session, but Senator Oelrich (who is up for re-election in the Alachua County area) essentially killed our Bill. If you feel that motorcyclists’ lives are worth the same as any other motorists’, pay attention to who you vote for this election season. If you feel that motorcyclists’ lives are worth more than an $87 ticket, or even more than $1,166 in fines, contact your elected officials and let them know. If you are outraged at the lack of value “the system” puts on motorcyclists’ lives, join us in our fight. These are just some of the battles ABATE of Florida, Inc. fights.
