Hello and Happy Easter! Last month was quite a month as the Full Throttle crew spent eleven days in Daytona Beach for Bike Week. If you didn’t see us, then you really didn’t see Bike Week! We had a booth on Main Street at The Boot Hill Saloon .... we had a booth in front of JP Cycles at Destination Daytona .... we had a booth at the front gate of the Iron Horse in Ormond Beach .... we hosted the Boardwalk Bike Show and we had a booth at the Rat’s Hole Bike Show. In addition, we hosted a “Welcome to Bike Week Party” and a bike show at the Grand Seas Resorts and our annual “Let’s Get Crazy Party” at the Americano Resort. Yes, we were very, very busy! Make sure you take a look at the recap inside this issue and check out our website for more photos. This month is highlighted by the annual Leesburg Bike Fest. This event has really exploded the past few years and is now one of the top motorcycle events in the State of Florida. Full Throttle will be located just off Main Street so check us out! I want to take time to wish my granddaughter Krysie a very happy birthday. She turns ten this month and is growing up to be a beautiful little lady .... I love you pumpkin! On the other side of father time, I want to wish my Dad a happy birthday. Pops turns 81 this year and I cherish every day I get to spend with him. We are best of friends and he is truly my hero. I’m also glad to announce that Georgia Boy’s wife has made a spectacular recovery and is doing fine. I want to wish the Tampa Bay Rays good luck this season as they defend their American League crown. Let’s hope we get some much needed rain in the Tampa Bay area as my lawn is screaming for water! Have a great month of April, please ride carefully and think twice before you drink and ride!
I would like to start off this month thanking a few people that I stupidly left out in the March issue. These are some great photographers who submit pictures for us to use and I forgot to put their photo credits in the magazine. First I would like to thank Jack Watson (www.jackwatsonphoto.com) who does all the great shots of Mia McKinley. Jack is one of the best studio and portrait photographers I have seen in a long time. Second is Lenny “Mumbles”, he has helped us shoot both the Biker Build Off and now Bike Week 2009. Lenny is a great guy and takes some nice stage shots. Thanks Lenny for all you hard work. Third is Chuck Carroll (www.chuckcarrollphotography.com), you might know him from Quaker Steak on Wednesday nights or just by being at events. Chuck covered the Thunder by the Bay event is Sarasota and takes some great candid shots of people having fun. Last, but not least, I would like to thank Chip Weiner (www.chipshotz.com). Chip shoots for Biker Profile and other magazines and took some great pictures at the Motorcycle Expo in January. Thank to all of you who submit pictures to us on a regular basis. We have some great stuff coming up in the next few issues…Night train is setting up some great interview’s and we have a special surprise coming for the JUNE 2009 Florida Full Throttle Magazine. Stay on your toes cause it will knock your socks off! We shot over 4,000 pictures at bike week and we won’t be able to fit many in the magazine. Make sure you go to our website and click on the event photos tab at the top of the page to see all the fun we had at Bike Week and all the other events we go to every month. We have a big event happening in May on the 22-24 called Oldsmar Freedom Fest. This is the first time downtown Oldsmar will shut down the street for an event and only have it open for bikes to ride down and park on (Kinda like Daytona) there is plenty of space for vendors and bike parking. This is a Fri,Sat and Sunday event and the best part about it….IT’S FREE!!!! Come in; ride down main street, park and party! We are lining up some great bands and some nice entertainment. This is also Memorial Day Weekend! We are getting plans in the works for our annual 5 Bridge Run and Sore Ass Run. These are fun events where it usually rains on. Seems like every year for both runs it rains, oh well, it could be snow, right? The Sore Ass run is going to end in Daytona and here is the tentative plan: New Port Richey, Crystal River, Ocala, Gainesville, Starke, St. Augustine, Daytona. If anyone has some good places in mind to stop at I am all ears. My oldest daughter Krysie turns “10” this month…man is that scary…Happy Birthday Pumpkin, Hubba Dubba! I would also like to wish my Grandfather “Pops” a happy birthday on the 18th. Make sure you ride safe and don’t drink and ride. See you at Leesburg Bike Fest!

I hate corrupt politics, almost as bad as corrupt law enforcement. Let’s try and put things in perspective. We are in a recession, and only the beginning of one. Things will get worse before they get better. If one does not perform well at their job, they are usually fired or they quit before the ax falls. All of this leads me to the definition of “conspiracy”. Conspiracy, n. An agreement by two or more persons to commit an unlawful act.

Instead, AIG should have fired some of these executives. Congress should be ashamed of their performance as well. What they have done is steal from you and me and make the rich wealthier. On the one hand we have this supergiant company known as AIG. On the other hand we have our elected Congress. Instead of letting the market control itself (this is what we are taught in economics in college, the weak companies die and the strong survive), the government steps in with your hard earned money and bails the weak AIG out. Congress drafts new laws and creates a budget (again with your money) and then hands the cash out like candy on Halloween. Now, Congress passed this bailout bill without even bothering to read it. They claim they did not have enough time. Do you send the space shuttle up not knowing how it operates? Do you buy a car for the first time without taking it for a test drive? Do you jump off the local bridge because someone tells you to? Apparently, Congress does.
So let’s go back to the definition of Conspiracy and fine tune it for the sake of this article. Conspiracy, n. An agreement between Congress and AIG to commit an unlawful act. There are some things you don’t need and a bright red Ducati supersport is one of them, but I want one and there are times I’m certain I need one and that my Kevlar covered friends is what makes them dangerous. Yes, Mr. 300 has decided to buy a modern era sportbike but one still connected to history, a look at me bike, a bike that can turn heads, a bike with a soul. I’m not talking about just any bike, but a Ducati the most dangerous bike the world has ever produced (insert argument against this here!) Its needy, its expensive, its a torture rack, I need one. So the story starts with my mental state, a kind of biological clock that said if your body and mind were to experience all these bikes can offer, a true track style sportbike .............. now was the time . I will always have my antique and vintage bikes and their are many “old guy” sport tourers out there that await me. So, my superbike freak friends, I had a decision ahead and it was this, what sportbike would I be tortured with? It was quickly narrowed down to the country of Italy (as you all know I have Moto Guzzis and a Gilera in my stable). You see I don’t need 175-200 MPH straight line speed.You can make a turd do 200MPH if you put enough HP in it and make it light. I wanted handling and I wanted torque, we all love torque don’t we my aerodynamic friends? And I Mr. 300 with my stable of one of a kind antique and vintage bikes and dashing good looks, I like to be noticed by all. When you buy a Ducati, its only one color for me.....Ducati calls it red-red (a color so cool they named it twice!) when you see it you’ll know why. Don’t buy yellow, don’t buy silver blue or white(its the same with a Ferrari a 4 wheeled torture rack). I did look at Aprilias, the big 4 of Japan, of course Moto Guzzi and me being a big fan of the BMW brand those also. But I also wanted a connection to history and the racing bikes of the past but also have a modern love of the bike. So it fell to Ducati, the bike that looks like its doing 90MPH sitting in your garage! The first time you ride your Ducati you hear low voices at stop lights, “hey, there’s a Ducati” fingers point at you from across the street people young and old take pictures of it like its art hung in a museum. I would have never thought a modern era sportbike could do this like my vintage bikes do.......did I mention its red-red my decal covered bubbas ? This rocketship has handling, torque and opposite sex appeal. Its the total package its not just about horsepower its the balance of the total machine. This bike is not just fast, its quick and responsive, from 4000-6000 in 3rd. it will take you from 65-90 in 2 seconds this bike is a performance machine not a trophy hunter ! I settled on a 2000 Ducati, 750 supersport, the 750 supersport of 1972 took Ducati, from a company that built small low cc motorbikes into racing history, it made Ducati the racing legend it is today. You need to google “Paul Smart and the 1972 Imola 200 mile race” its worth the read my carbon fiber buddies. So, the pieces were coming together. I wanted, no needed a Ducati, a red-red one, a 750 supersport. My research also showed I wanted a year2000 or newer bike as this was the first year of fuel injection (Mr. 300 wants to be in the modern love times) I also settled on the 1/2 fairing vs the full since i’m not a top end junkie the 1/2 fairing runs cooler in the city and in Fla. road driving. The 750 SS is an air- oil cooled creature, more air flow equals more cool, did I mention its a cool color? Yep, its red-red. It makes your wrists, neck and back ache, a couple hour long tour may be the max in this rock hard seat/suspension combo, true pain and pleasure. this bike may be the best fun you can have with your clothes on. Seems all things beautiful out of Italy are expensive, maintenence intensive and cause a lot of excitement, that Italian exchange student I dated named Alessandra comes to mind also!But its all clear to me now going fast in 6th. gear on a mile straight First Ride Ever away is one thing, but On 2 Wheels! real speed in 3rd. gear on a sandy, sharp curve, with great lean angle and perfect suspension geometry is another........then my squids it all comes together, doesn’t it? This bike is a dangerous pleasure. When I first saw it, I wasn’t sure of
what to do with it. At first I thought my enemies had delivered it to me to inflict harm. Some told me aliens had sent it and others told me not to stare directly at the red-red devil bike. As I looked at it I was sure it was a 140 MPH racebike and some mental case had accidently put a Florida tag on it to disguise it as a street bike. When I sat on it my suspicions were confirmed I and my biggest friend couldn’t get the suspension to budge, Racetrack set up I was told, and the bike came with a dyno sheet, woo hoo ya don’t get those with blue platers! (antiques). This is fine Italian machinery! the first time I started the bike it had soul. I heard the “song of the Ducati” its legend doesn’t do it justice. The foot controls confused my feet, the shift lever and the brake are in an alien position, called rear sets, I sit stretched out over the red- red tank my wrists already hurt........What a bike! My first ride was all of the above writing put together. I put 46 miles on “Wolfie”(I name all my bikes, remember?) so far and its 46 miles I wouldn’t trade for anything. I hope to get amazing lean angles, learn to get the weight off my wrists, know when to screw down the torque monster in an out of turns. You know when I am riding this bike a famous quote used by my motorcycle idol, Steve McQueen comes to mind. “Life is Racing, all the rest is just waiting”..........

2009 BIKE WEEK DAYTONA Unfortunately I did not make it this year due to previous engagements, however several people sent me emails with reports and concerns about this year’s event. Personally I still think they need to change the name to “ Trailer Week “. It just seems like every year it is getting more commercialized, and the attendance of local bikers are getting lower. I have been going to Daytona for Bike Week and Speed Week for the past 30 years. With the revenue collected you would think they would cater to the local bikers, after all we are the ones who started this event from nothing. The hotels are always booked at triple the price. Price gouging on gas, food, novelties, souvenirs and parking have skyrocketed. For the most part the law enforcement officials with the size of the crowd handled things to the best of their ability. I do not envy their job in the least. Kudo’s to them and their volunteers for keeping it safe and organized for all. The death and accident toll was at it’s all time lowest this year. 2009 Bike Week Report / By: Keven Duke Daytona’s Bike Week is a motorcycle spectacle of the highest order, serving up a cornucopia of radical bikes and eccentric characters. It’s a pilgrimage of bikers that kicks off the springtime motorcycle season, bringing in an estimated $300 million to the local economy of Daytona Beach and the surrounding area of Florida. The chatter, surrounding the 2009 edition of Bike Week centered on how the current dismal economy would affect attendance at Daytona. In its best years, Bike Week drew in somewhere up to 500,000 riders and race fans. Although official (and/or accurate) figures are impossible to come by, this year’s event definitely saw a reduction in attendance. The majority of hotels along the beach’s A1A had vacancy signs illuminated, which wasn’t the case a few years ago. NUMBERS ARE GROWING / By Don (BOOMER) O’Day Greetings my fellow riders. I hope that you all had a good time in Daytona for those of you that braved the chill in the air. This month’s article is about the growing numbers
of motorcyclist that have met their maker before their time. I know this is a sad subject but we all must face some facts. According to the State Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles there were 9,205 serious motorcycle accidents in the state in 2007. In 1998 there were 4,332.That is more than a 100% increase, and out of those numbers 158 were fatal in 1998 and 517 fellow riders passed on in 2007.These numbers are a sobering fact and seem to be increasing as time goes on. As most of you know most accidents involving a motorcycle are caused by a car or truck making a left turn in front of the rider. This has happened recently in Pinellas County multiple times. Riders that do not wear a helmet are three times more likely to be permanently disabled or killed than those that do wear one. Alcohol is another offender that rears its ugly head on a consistent basis also. We all have the right to toss a few back now and again but common sense should tell you that if you need to drink don’t ride or drive. I see countless numbers of people at bike nights that over do it on the booze then get on their bike and ride off banging gears to make an impressive exit. Unfortunately these riders take up a large percentage of the fatal numbers. Experience and caution are your best defense. In today’s busy world, we need to brush up on skills as well as stay alert on the road. If you have not taken an experienced rider course I highly recommend doing so. The information that you will receive is priceless and they will put you through your paces on the motor course. When I took it I learned a lot about my level of expertise, I needed to practice the maneuvers I so rarely call upon so I would be ready when the time came. I never did that before I took the course and learned a valuable lesson that contempt prior to investigation is ignorance. I thought I knew it all. We all love to ride and as the population increases so does the risk .I hope that this article has heightened your awareness and stimulated some thought on safety. Addiction.... some people acquire it when they get their first ride on two wheels in the open air, and some people are born with it. I think my friend Millie was born with it. She is married to my friend Dan who is also a two wheel addict, as he owns many bikes, races etc. He found Millie and decided she would put up with his addiction since she was born with it also here is a picture of her mother, Doris (McCarthy) Lyons on her father’s Pope motorcycle, 1911-1918 it was a 61 CI, overhead valve v-twin, before World War 1. HarleyDavidson produced its first 61 CI engine in 1936 and called it the Knucklehead. Millie’s mother Doris passed away in 1994 she was 78 years old. You can meet Millie at the Webster Bike and Car Swap Meet first Sunday of every month hanging out at the Full Throttle booth.
Georgia Boy has not come to Webster the last two months as his wife had a bad sick spell and he has not had the money to make it. We hope things get better with his wife and finances soon. I am proud to hear that my friend Ed Tooley won first place in the Super Radical Class at the Rat’s Hole in Daytona Beach at Bike Week, at Biff Burger’s Anniversary Party and at the Hard Rock Casino Bike Shows. Please don’t call the 800 number, It’s a porn service! I have been a writer and Photographer for the motorcycle world for many years. I have traveled the nation and met just about everyone who is anyone in the industry. While in Daytona last month I had another photographer ask me why I didn’t start a referral service for the motorcycle community. “You know everybody and everybody knows you, and they like you! Most importantly, they trust you.” He told me. This made me think about how many times I have been asked by people where to go for various items and services. One of my virtues is that I refuse to lie. Also, people like to tell me about the type of service they received by a business. Maybe this is because I do know so many people and as a reporter they believe I can make it known, good or bad. I also value the fact that I refuse to break a confidence. I have met every kind of person that you can imagine in my travels. I once had a Bandido threaten to beat me up because I would not share information on another club member. “Don’t threaten me with a good time. My Dominatrix name is Mistress Veronika.” I told him. He just sneered and walked away. I have tried just about everything in my 39 plus years. This means that I have had a few failures. If you ask me advise I may b e able to tell you what not to do! A great example is the fact that my Little Red Corvette is eleven years old and everything you can imagine has broken or is about to break! I asked Chris from the Little Garage That Can what was causing my gear shift to hang and refuse to come out of Park. He told me it was the brake pedal. I took it to another mechanic and guess what! Eight Hundred Dollars later I learned that his simple verbal diagnosis was right! I'm sorry I didn't go directly to him the first time! Patients used to call me when I was in denistry and ask for a

diagnosis over the phone. I always told them to hold the phone right infront of the tooth that was hurting. You would be surprised how many people really did that! So if you want the scoop on where to go to get that headlight for your 58 Panhead or your 55 Chevy, call me! If your mechanic just can’t get that knock out of your EVO I might know one that can. If you want to grab a drink at the new bar you saw in the magazine and wonder about their service or prices, call me. If you need a Doctor, Lawyer or Indian Chief, call me. I get no kickbacks, no payments and no comps from any of these people. I just want to help out the good ones by referring good customers. The economy is so bad that small businesses are hurting. Only the strong will survive, the ones with good reputations in the motorcycle community are the ones that have been earned. THE LEGEND RIDES AGAIN • THE INDIAN
History tells the story of an American legend that refused to die. It began in Springfield, Massachusetts, over a century ago. George Hendee, a champion racer, and Oscar Hedstrom, a gifted inventor, gave America it’s first motorcycle. Hendee was a successful bicycle racer who went on to excel in business and build the world’s largest motorcycle company along with his partner Hedstrom. Hedstrom’s engineering skills were responsible for giving their early motorcycles a reputation for solid construction and excellent reliability and helped catapult the company to the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles, which came to be known as the Indian Motorcycle Company. These two men put into their bikes everything that is great about America --------- a desire for freedom, a love of open spaces and a pioneering attitude. You could swing your leg over the machine they created and ride off into the sunset. Now 108 years after the first Indian Motorcycle came to life, and including some setbacks, those legendary motorcycles that graced the highways and country back roads, have been re-born. Today that story continues. In July of 2006, the newly formed Indian Motorcycle Company announced it’s new home in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, where it is resurrecting the iconic Indian Motorcycle Brand. The new Indian Chief motorcycles are produced in limited numbers, with the focus on outstanding quality, performance, and exclusivity. The limited production 2009 Indian Chief features a redesigned 105 cubic inch Powerplus V-Twin powertrain with electronic closed loop sequential port fuel injection. A new charging system provides increased capacity for the EFI. Engine cylinders are Nikasil plated, eliminating the need for cast iron liners. A new crankshaft eliminates “scissoring”. The exhaust system is a new design with integrated 3-way catalytic converter and heated oxygen sensors. All body parts are e-coated and the frame and swingarm are e-coated and powder coated for enhanced corrosion protection. A Baker six speed transmission delivers power through the belt drive to 16-inch wheels out back. Stopping is achieved via Brembo 4-piston calipers, with 11.5” dual rotors up front. Standard 5.5 gallon tank helps extend
cruising range. Seats are all-leather and built to exacting specifications. The different Models available are the Standard, Deluxe, Roadmaster and Chief Vintage. Primary differences between models are in the levels of trim, seating configurations, fender design, paint combinations, and included accessories. Two local bikers, Greg Reaster and Steve Story founded BIKERSCAP, which is an acronym for Building Intelligence, Knowledge, Education, Resources, and Schooling with a Computer, Acquisition Program!! This program provides complete home computer systems to disadvantaged children. That is the concept. They are concerned members of our “Biker” community that is committed to providing this tool through complete computer system donations, from a mouse to a printer, for educational purposes! Greg started building & donating computer systems in 2001, after becoming a certified computer technician. He put an ad in the paper that a “student” was looking for old computers, well, he ended up with a lot of systems working; in which he had decided to donated them to our local children in need. These children are referred through an application process, which is opened to academically excelling children that cannot afford a computer. On March 15th I was invited to a ceremony where two 9 year old young ladies, Jacy and Debra, were to receive a great surprise. Both girls had no idea, and it was incredible! The girls are two fourth graders that couldn’t wait to get home on Sunday and work on their new systems. They are very smart young ladies, and their grades definitely show for it. Their only obstacle with school was not having a home computer. They are currently in negotiation with Brighthouse and Verizon for internet access for theses donations either at a reduced cost or free access for a time period for the recipients. They are in the process of becoming a 501 © 3, as an origination on a mission to provide computer systems to educate our children that otherwise would not be afforded the opportunity of this tool, in which in today’s world has become a necessity. HarNessing Steelhorses
Referred to as “The King of Choppers”, Arlen Ness has built what is considered by many an empire right from scratch. His business, Arlen Ness Enterprises Inc. (ANEI) (www.arlenness. com) grew from his small garage at home to a 70,000 sq ft head office at 6050 Dublin Blvd, Dublin, CA 94568. There is probably little in this column you will not have already read that has not been said or written before. Books have been written about the man and about his work. Countless magazines have published everything and anything about Arlen and his work. Arlen has also been featured in the famous Discovery Channel “Biker Build-off” show. His clients are the envy of other custom builders. His son Cory says that his dad has nothing else to prove. Heck he even built a jet engine propelled custom bike for Jay Leno, a Ferrari bike, and a custom bike for Hulk Hogan called Hulkster. His most recent achievement is the “Top Banana” bike. Arlen is a very private and busy man. Almost too private for my column. He is a family man. Besides the quality of his work, Arlen is known for his loyalty and his integrity. Arlen has been married to Bev for 50 years. Both Arlen and Bev were raised by parents who were part of the working class. Sherri, his daughter and Cory, his son both work for the company. Even Zach, Cory’s son now works in the family business and has had a few projects of his own. Arlen was never actually “hooked” into riding. He simply always loved motorcycles and everything that was customized. It was “in him” right from birth. For Arlen it all started with the purchase of a 1947 Knucklehead. Arlen paid $300 for that bike. The bike had a suicide clutch system. He did not even know how to operate the thing. He brought it home and Bev was not impressed. For a couple days afterwards he got the cold shoulder. Arlen remembers once when he got carried away a little; he drove his car back home too late for Bev’s tastes. He intended to switch from the car to his bike. She welcomed him with a full bucket of cold water. Arlen calmly proceeded to put some dry
clothes on and when he tried to start his bike he realized Bev had cut every wire she could see on the bike. Arlen did not go anywhere. He just smiled and went right to bed (now ladies calm down out there and don’t you go and copy that behavior! I don’t want an army of guys looking for me at our next event). Arlen worked for his father moving furniture. He also made some cash as a semi-pro bowler. Arlen would set bowling pins for $0.10 a game in San Lorenzo CA. He spent his evenings and his weekends customizing his Knucklehead. He worked on other people’s bikes making parts here and there. People got curious and started to drop by. The quality of his work was noticed and the word got around. Arlen was a good worker and produced quality results because he loved what he was doing. To him it does not feel like work so long as you love what you do.
It all goes back to the late sixties and early seventies when movies like “Easy Rider” and “The Wild One” came out creating frenzy for motorcycles. Then a few magazines (not going to say who) came out and highlighted Arlen’s work. This is in a very small nutshell how the embryonic stages of today’s multibillion dollar custom motorcycle industry started. Arlen was at the right place at the right time. His hard work brought quality results. Most importantly, Arlen’s driving force is what has always put him ahead of the pack: “Innovate, Don’t Imitate”. That is the one piece of advice he told me to share with current and future custom builders. Arlen never touched drugs. He also recently stopped
drinking altogether. He says “It drags you down and makes you less perky”. He was always smart enough to listen to Bev (for the most part) and stay away from real trouble. At one point they had their own motorcycle club; “Questionmarks M/C” with patches and all. The club grew to a point where the local notorious Hell’s Angels M/C recruited some of the Questionmarks club members. That is when Arlen and many others hung up their patches. Arlen graduated from high school and says he was happy to get out of there. He never went on to further his education and admits he should have. Arlen is surprisingly approachable for a man of his profile. He however keeps his cards close to his chest. For example when I asked him to describe his spirituality he replied “I believe in God” but when I asked him who he thought God is he declined to elaborate. On the question of abortion: Is it a “choice” or is it a “life”? Arlen also (understandably or not) declined to respond. On the political question: “Blue” or “Red”? Arlen also deferred the question.
One thing I noticed about the man and his work is that contrary to many maledominated sectors of businesses out there, he is not using attractive images of women bringing them to the same level of mere products in order to attract buyers. This sends a strong message; the man is confident enough in his work not to use marketing tricks many of us out there now consider as old and passé. Sure it works to a certain and limited extent but I myself am a marketer with 20+ years experience (I do have a real job), and I have found that if you have to use this old trick to attract prospect buyers, dude you need to “Innovate not Imitate”!

Over the years, some of my information has not been as accurate as it could be. When I’m rushing for my dead line. Some times you take what information you can get. In last month magazine, I gave the wrong weekend of the month for a monthly swap meet. Big Shots, at 3934 49th Street in St. Pete. has its Swap Meet the 2nd Saturday of each month. That means if you read my article and came by the first weekend and didn’t see much. I’m letting you know to get some friends and come back by on the right Saturday. The second Saturday of the month. The weather is coming along nicely for springtime in Florida. Great Riding Weather. Great Partying Weather. It’s time to get out side and ride to some swap meets or any bike event going on. Not too Hot, Not too Cold. A light jacket when you start out in the morning and for the ride home if the sun goes down. I loved it when I moved back to Florida and had bike event right down the road, Like Daytona and Leesburg. Then Zephyrhills came along with it’s three times a year Music and Motorcycles Event. Even closer to home for me. Then right next door to me, Cotee River Bike Fest put together a kick ass event in Oct. Now in my back yard. We have the Tarpon Springs Bike Fest at the Sponge Docks going on each month. It’s great. My bike doesn’t even get warmed up. I have to take the long way around just to heat my oil. And the outside temperature has been in the 80s. GOD I LOVE FLORIDA. The way the dates fell. I was able to make it to the first and second Tarpon Springs Bike Fest before press time. At the second one I had the honor to meet the Mayor of Tarpon Springs, Beverly Billiris. What a wonderful lady. We could have another biker friend moving up in the government. She really wants this bike event to turn into something great for the city of Tarpon Springs. I hope the snowbirds that come down here can walk up and see the people and motorcycles that they don’t see out on the road. May be after they meet some of us. They may look out for us on the streets. But as for us. We have a nice ride down to the sponge docks. Hear some biker music and check out the vendors that cater to a biker’s way of life. Right on the water you have some great local history. Some of the
best places to eat at in the area. And I hear they may have some new biker things coming in the next few months. Look for the news here. It’s not going to happen this month because of a Greek Holiday. But look for the date in next months Full Throttle. Or ask me if you see me. My lady DJ Patti had a gig to do for the ICMC St. Patrick’s Day Party. I can’t show all the pictures I took; after all, we are not Night Moves Magazine. We all had fun. Every one had their fill of food, beer, mix drinks, and fun. Even if the vendors didn’t sell out of everything. The club put out great food, and DJ Patti had everyone going with music and games. The pole on stage got a work out too. That’s all I’m going to say about that. You should try to make it to the next MC party in your area. I believe you should help support your local biker. Hello again, Ted here, man there's so much going on around town & out of town I don't know where to start. We had a poker run that was “my baby� for Hospice that we started at Willies and we ended up at Gators with Frank putting on a wall to wall party where we all had one hell of a blast. Our hearts went to out to Hospice. Frank even came out with a couple extra bottles to be auctioned off. We auctioned off a massage package for $100, 50/50 and door prizes. When we were all done the total amount that was raised was $450.00. The weekend after that I spent out at the Nav-a-gator which we had the best bike contest, a hot bikini contest and a shoulder tattoo contest. This event started on Saturday and rolled over to Sunday where we had our favorites come back to be judged again in the bikini contest and the best bike. We had such a close call and a tie for best bike that Dennis, the owner, decided that it couldn't be decided so we ended up giving $200 to each of the top three bikes. We were all lost in the hot bikini contest also, so he did it again and gave all 3 runner up's a cash prize of $200 to each of the top three bikini finalists. I know that was the highlight of the day, it was mine for sure. Then we started judging the best shoulder tattoo which won a $100 prize. He was sporting Mark Davenport's work on his shoulder. We all had a good time the sun was nice. We had live music all weekend, the beers were ice cold the food was great. I had a great weekend and would like to thank Frank and Gators for having our poker run. It was his choice to use Hospice as the charity we donated the money to. I would also like to thank Dennis for having our two-day weekend Sun Splash. We look forward to seeing y'all at our next event. Happy Spring from my corner in the Cape! I'm sure happy to see the warmer weather arrive as I was getting pretty tired of freezin every time me and "Stella" would leave the garage. However I just went more and wore more. On Sunday, March 15th, the 1st Annual "Pat Eakes"Memorial Poker Run was held to benefit Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Inc(ACT) which is a private, not for profit agency committed to serving victims of domestic violence and sexual,assault. Pat Eakes, known to the biker community as "MA MA SEZ" was tragically killed on her motorcycle in August of 2006. She was a Mom,Grandmother, Sister, Friend and a dedicated employee at ACT. Kathy Johnson, along with the help of Dave Barbur and Becky did a great job putting this event together. A host of friends stepped up to assist along with Alternative M.C of Pt Charlotte and the Ft.Myers/ Cape Coral Chrome Diva's to make this day a great success! I would like to welcome Jane Lopez from the Beltone Hearing Center to Full Throttle. Jane has three locations to visit in the Lee County area. In the US, and Canada, it's traditional for two motorcyclists passing in opposite directions to give each other a little wave. Sometimes just a lift of a finger, but it is the thing to do. Sometimes they don't wave back. Here are some reasons why: Top Ten Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave Back 10. Afraid it will invalidate warranty. 9. Leather and studs make it too heavy to raise arm. 8. Refuse to wave to anyone whose bike is already paid for. 7. Afraid to let go of handlebars because they might vibrate off. 6. Rushing wind would blow scabs off the new tattoos. 5. Angry because just took out second mortgage to pay luxury tax on new Harley. 4. Just discovered the fine print in owner's manual and realized H-D is partially owned by Honda. 3. Can't tell if other riders are waving or just reaching to cover their ears like everyone else. 2. They look way too cool with both hands on the bars or they don't want to unbalance themselves while standing on the tank. 4. Their skin tight-Kevlar-ballistic-nylon-kangaroo-leather suits prevent any position other than fetal. 3. Raising an arm allows bugs into the armholes of their tank tops. 2. Make sure to mark your calendars for some of these upcoming dates. Get everyone motivated - yourself included - for the upcoming Freedom Ride in Tallahassee on Monday April 13th we will leave from the Monticello KOA Campground (located at exit 225 and I-10, call 850-997-3890 for directions only) with a line up starting at 8am and then pulling out at 9am on this escorted ride. This is the most important ride of the year for all motorcyclists throughout the state. It is imperative that we have a strong turn out and show our solidarity. Invite everyone you possibly can and please make certain they realize that membership to ABATE of Florida, Inc. is not needed to participate. We need you to help make a strong showing in supporting our rights as motorcyclists and to let our representatives in Tallahassee know that we are out there. If you are looking for a place to stay Sunday night and have a tent join us there, it is free camping to anyone attending this ride. When you see the line of bike pulling up to the capitol and parking on the grounds you will never forget the experience. Also during bike week we had a booth set up and our legislative aid spoke at MaraVila’s 1st Annual Sport Bike Party. It was a great turn out she did an outstanding job. Update on the 2009 session in Tallahassee, we had our first committee hearing on the stiffer penalties bill that was held in the house. We also have put an amendment to the transportation bill for later in the session on the vertical license plate. We are working constantly to offer Safety and Awareness classes thru out the state. We have joined up with some of the Harley Dealerships as well as schools and community organizations to get the word out for everyone to watch out for those of us on 2 and 3 wheels. We held our first of what I hope will be many bike nites at Mickeys. The weather was great and all had a great time. We had some vendors set up with their goods, and some donated items for giveaways.There were lots of drawings of prizes including Full Throttle tee shirts and patches and different liquor paraphenelia. Andy G and his boys rocked the place all nite long with good music.There was plenty of free food including sausage and peppers prepared by Lisa and Sher Bear made several trays of lasagna. I even made some macaroni salad. The highlight of the nite however was the games we played. We had two contests set up. One for the women and one for the men. The game for the women was a balloon drop. We set up a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet seat on top of it. We had a race format with two women per race.The winner advanced and the loser was done. Each woman would place a water balloon between her knees and hobble to deposit the balloon in the toilet. First one to drop the balloon was the winner. It was hilarious and the women had a blast. At first people didn't really want to sign up but once the games started everyone wanted to play. Through several eliminations, Nan won the contest. She won a $25 bar tab for her efforts. The game we set up for the men was a tire toss. It is basically horseshoes with a pylon and a motorcycle tire. Once the game got started several women decided to join the competition. Surprisingly the women were very competative. So much so,that the contest was won by a woman. I believe it was Donna who won and she also won a $25 bar tab. Looks like the men need to pick up their game to beat the women because next time we'll have some smaller tires for the women. Good luck guys. This bike nite will take place at Mickeys on the fourth Saturday of each month. We expect this bike nite will get bigger and better each month.We will add more games and giveaways. Whaddya mean it's April already? Where did March go? Well, I hope everyone survived Bike Week! I have been going 3 directions from sideways lately and the days are just flying by. Once again, our deadline for publication came a little earlier this month, so, coverage of CrossCreeks Bike Nite Kickoff, and the Bike/HotRod Cruise In down at Love 2 Ride will be in next month's issue. Despite all the stories of a 'bad economy', there are still plenty of things to do, and more coming! I stopped in at CrossCreek Steakhouse a couple of Saturdays ago to check out the 'building of the beer bong' for their world record attempt at the kickoff party on March 21st. Paul offered up free bbq and ice cold beer to all who showed up to help out. I got there early and a few other folks showed up and went straight to work, marking, measuring, drilling, and tapping the pvc piping. Paul also told me that he had been taking 'reservations' in advance for this event and had just about 'filled the book' with 2 weeks to go! Later on in the week, I met up with The Yankee Slickers. Brothers Jason and Paul Ivey, along with the rest of the band have been tearin' it up at the local nightclubs with their own brand of music. I had checked their Myspace page, listened to a few of their original songs, and have to say, "I am impressed". Being a musician myself, I really like their sound, "real" is what comes to mind. See their ad for some local gigs, and visit their myspace page for more info, go check them out when they play near you. I was invited to 'sit in' and jam a few tunes with them at an upcoming gig, and will do so when my schedule permits. Coming up in April, the 3rd thru the 5th is St. Augustine's Rhythm & Ribs Festival. Held at Francis Field, right off US Hwy 1, about a mile or so south of SR 16. Award winning BBQ, live music all 3 days, vendors, and more. Leon Russell is the headliner for Saturday; I'll be there, working the sound crew all weekend. Over in Green Cove Springs, from April 2nd til the 11th, it's The Clay Co. Fair, Jacksonville's own Big Engine opens for .38 Special on Wednesday, the 8th, and I'll be playing with Southern Rukus on Friday the 10th, and Saturday the 11th. I so hope everyone had a safe and glorious month. Mine started on Feb, 21st at the Gainesville Harley with a hot wing cook off on one of the most gorgeous days I have seen in a while. Calico Jacks, Kazbors Grill, Beef O’ Brady’s and Domino’s Pizza showed for the contest. It was a great turn out of people and the Chrome Diva’s were there with Core playing in the background the whole day. I had to try all the wings to see for myself which was the best. My preference was for Calico Jacks but seems that Kazbors was the hit for the day and won the cook off. My next adventure was Bike Week in Ormand Beach. I started the week early on Sunday with a ride over with my son. He has never been to the Iron Horse before and since I had to go over to pick up my friend who flew in from England I took him for the day to get a taste of what Bike Week is all about. He had a great time. I have many friends who don’t live in FL and got to visit with a few from and a few not from FL on Monday. They came to my place and we all heading out to lunch at a local place here in Lake City, was so nice to spend time away from all the crowds with a good group of friends. On Wed. we headed out to the Cabbage Patch for the cole slaw wrestling. Floozie had never seen such a site and don’t think I remember having so much fun. Got to see my good friend Jen from Tattudio, they were there hosting the tattoo contest, always nice to see her and Craven. I also got to meet a MC group called BACA, Bikers Against Child Abuse, and let me tell you after talking with them wish someone like this had been around when I was a child. Thursday night took us to the Broken Spoke to see Toy, and the Kentucky Head Hunters. I saw these guys when their first album came out in Orlando and let me tell you they can still put on a heck of a show, was nice to see them again. Friday we spent most of the day at the Iron Horse area. Last Biketoberfest I got to listen to a new band for me called Jasmine Cane, and they were back again this Bike Week. This band is out of Tenn., and let me tell you they can play some awesome tunes. They are mainly rock new and old when I have heard them. This time I got to talk with them and take a pic, even got their cd’s and let me tell you if you can find them you have got to listen, they are awesome. Saturday, we went to the BON meet & greet and the Iron Horse. This one was the biggest I have seen yet, we had the complete back bar full of BON members so from as far away as New York. Was a bit miffed at the security there, I can understand some of why they didn’t want us to stand on the tables but they wouldn’t even let me or the photographer from Easy Rider stand to take pics of the crowd and I had a press pass on, go figure. Think maybe next meet & greet needs to be held some place larger for the crowd we seem to be accumulating. I met many people this trip but the most memorable was the guys we met from Holland, the band Jasmine Cane, and I finally got to personally meet and get a photo with David Allen Coe. That was such a thrill for me you’ll just never know. I have been listening to him since I was a young child and to finally get to meet him omg!!!!!!!!! Well, April will be the Rock-N-Wheels up by me at the Spirit of the Suwannee, sure hope to see some of you there and please come say hey to me I would so luv to meet my readers. Tripp!!!!

How in the world could two of our country’s Navy vessels collide in the Straight of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf? On Friday March 20, the amphibious assault ship the “USS New Orleans” spilled 25,000 gallons of diesel fuel into the gulf as its fuel tank was ruptured when it collided with the “USS Hartford” a nuclear-powered submarine. With all the technology we have, all the radar and sonar, all the seamen on duty and in the middle of an active war zone .... how could this happen? The New Orleans was just a month into its maiden deployment but the Hartford is an experienced 15-year-old vessel. The sub was submerged at the time of the collision. Both vessels were sent to Bahrain for repairs. That beautiful, buxom, blonde Barbie turned fifty last month and to celebrate the occasion, Mattel decided to give the doll a new tattoo! The new Totally Stylin’ Barbie doll comes with temporary tattoos for both Barbie and the kids! So now, your daughter can give her doll a new tat as well as herself. I can see it when she turns sixty .... maybe a new piercing? If you have an extra $28million put away, you can purchase the world famous “Playboy Mansion” from Hugh Hefner. Here’s a law that I can’t believe the State of Florida actually had to make. As of now, the Sunshine State is one of 16 states in America with no law against having sex with animals! That’s right, it is not against the law to have sex with your pet! Animal-rights activist and State Senator Nan Rich was shocked when she heard about a Panhandle man who was suspected of accidentally asphyxiating a family goat that he held by a collar during a sex act. The new bill is expected to pass later this year so you might still have time to wine and dine that special sheep you’ve been eyeing! A Florida Atlantic University researched has called the United States the “Fattest Society in the History of the World”. After a world-wide study that spanned an estimated 40-years, the results stated that Americans are increasingly unhealthy and getting worse. If that doesn’t make you want to eat a big, juicy, greasy double Big Mac, I don’t know what will! There are multiple big movies scheduled to hit the big screen this month including the 4/3 release of “Fast & Furious” starring Vin Diesel. This is the third installment of the series so expect the same fast car spins, squeals and crashes! 4/10 is the date that “Hannah Montana: The Movie” hits the screens so make sure your ten year old daughter is ready to rock! That same day Seth Rogan’s comedy “Observe and Report” is scheduled to be released .... wow a movie about a mall security guard, how original! On 4/17 “State of Play” will premier starring Ben Affleck as a US Senator. Last but not least, look for “17 Again” also released on 4/17. The movie stars Matthew Perry and teenage heart-throb Zac Efron.
