Youth Club

The youth groups were one of the first activities Tonic Health established at the Hub. Since starting the youth groups, they have gone from strength to strength We run two groups: Tuesdays for ages 6 to 12 years and Fridays 12 to 17 years.

My aim for the future would be for the staff to be C-card trained and to provide a safe space for youth to be able to openly discuss their problems and be able to guide them and help them with safeguarding.“

The members have the run of the building, so can take advantage of everything in the sports hall - football, netball, table tennis, archery (foam!), indoor curling etc etc They can also use the Lightspeed Digital Den for all their gaming needs, as well as sitting in the cafe style area, playing pool and making use of the tuck shop. There are always plenty of craft activities and also access to laptops/tablets should they need them.

During the Holiday Activities Fund we provide entertainment and activities for the children and young people We plan and deliver routines for them to promote fitness and team building, arts and crafts, sports like football, dodgeball and stem projects. They also make use of the Lightspeed Digital Den playing on the gaming consoles and using the virtual reality kit. This programme is also a fun way to meet other friends and to socialise.

SociABLES

Sociables started on September 14th, 2022, for adults with additional needs or learning disabilities. Due to day centres closing because of Covid, there was a need for a group in Holbeach and the surrounding areas

We have many fun activities, including different arts and crafts, such as painting, card making, beading and sewing to name a few. We also offer digital skills, this can be learning how to email, write a CV for those who are looking to get back into work, or just playing games or watching You Tube. We also offer inclusive sports, such as rounders, cricket or ball games to encourage health and wellbeing and a garden that is their responsibility to maintain. We have had Halloween, Christmas and Easter parties which we played games, enjoyed party food and had prizes for best costume and hunt the bats. We borrowed a sleigh for the Christmas party for those who wanted to take a pic.

“We continue to grow in numbers and have over 80 participants on our books, with new participants joining most weeks, with word of mouth and referrals becoming more prevalent. We have seen some of our participants move over to the volunteering sector, in youth groups, sociables and the HAF, as their confidence and social skills grow.”

DigitalDen

Lightspeed Broadband kindly provided full fibre broadband connection to the Holbeach Hub, and as part of their wider support, sponsored our Lightspeed Digital Den by providing gaming consoles and equipment, comfortable chairs, sofas and beanbags. Such is the speed of the fibre connection, we can have five gaming consoles running at the same time, without interfering the wifi connection to other devices being used across the rest of the building!

Additional Activities

The Hub continues to work and has worked with with a lot of organisations to the betterment of the community, Sport2day/Social Prescribers/Park Road Medical Centre/Littlebury Medical Centre/Football Fun

Factory/Shine/Holbeach Growing Together/CPSL Mind/Fleet Walking Football/Spalding Cricket Club/Chosen/Boxes of Hope to name but a few.

The Holbeach Hub is also ‘home’ to:

Holbeach Army Cadet Force

Holbeach Farmer’s Market

as well as available for private hire, catering for local sports teams, groups, individuals, parties and events

We are indebted to the staff and volunteers who have helped manage the building, to the Community Service team for repainting the sports hall and much of the outside garden maintenance, and to local businesses and organisations who have all contributed in various ways.....showing community spirit is very much alive in Holbeach!

Future plans...

We have learnt a great deal in the first year of operating from the Hub, starting afresh in a building which had not been occupied for a couple of years and having to start everything from scratch. From this learning, new contacts established and new ideas emerging, we are looking forward to an exciting and even more ambitious year 2!

Here are just some of the exciting ideas and events coming up:

Additional youth club, Mondays after school, for children with SEND.

We support people of all ages and backgrounds, especially those who are not considered ‘well’ enough to support themselves in society, but not ‘bad’ enough to receive statutory support from others.

We do this largely through peer-led groups, and “sector-specific” activities. This includes support for people with their mental health, early-onset dementia, Veterans, youth clubs and adults with additional needs. Many of our project support staff and volunteers come from a place of lived experience, making us well placed to offer non-clinical support to those in need.

We operate from three main sites in Spalding, Holbeach and Surfleet as well as utilising satellite centres across the wider South Holland and Boston region, and we attract funding through project-specific grants, commercial activities and donations We strive to be the go-to organisation for health and wellbeing support in our community.

Vision:

"Creating healthy, supporting local communities together"

Mission:

"Improving the physical and mental health and wellbeing of South Lincolnshire's communities through: bringing people together; collaborative work and partnerships; and shared spaces."
