THE GATHERING

2022 BELGIUM

PEOPLE OF TOMORROW,

WELCOME HOME THE MAGIC IS ABOUT TO START AGAIN!

The wait has been extraordinarily long, friends, but here you are. Hearts fully charged with love and minds amplifying each other’s magic, you have arrived at the gates of the Holy Grounds, about to make them shine once more. The Sun’s benevolent rays may have been darkened in the past few years – but it was all for us to return to the light with even greater force. Take a moment, then, to reflect on that which is about to happen. What lies in wait once you finally make this hallowed place your own again? Some things, like the line-up, are for certain, others, such as the precise meaning of The Reflection of Love, still a secret. But surely, new

SO MUCH MUSIC, LET’S REFLECT ON IT! People of Tomorrow, are you ready to hit the Mainstage and all of the other magical dancefloors especially designed for you to reflect on love? If this is your first time here at Tomorrowland, the music programming might be a little overwhelming, which is why we are happy to offer you a helping hand. No matter what style of electronic music you love, there is always something going on that’s right up your alley, on any day, at any time. Watch out for performances by the likes of multiinstrumentalist Timmy Trumpet, Swedish EDM star Alesso and the famous American-with-spongy-mask Marshmello. Love house music? You may want to lose it when Fisher comes on. Techno heads should make sure not to miss Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, and Reinier Zonneveld’s live set. Music lovers of the world, the greatest festival is upon you, get ready to move your feet before you reflect on it!

friendships will be made and amazing stories written. The people, nationalities, and sounds coming together from all across the globe will, through the movements of every single person here, weave themselves into a spectacle of historic proportions. But all of this, friends, you will find out about tomorrow. Today, your attention is to be drawn by another show that none will want to miss – the Gathering, where for the very first time, you will experience the extraordinary feeling of togetherness that Tomorrowland is all about. Reflect the love of those around you, friends, and enjoy – you’ve waited long enough.

PEOPLE OF TOMORROW,

KEEP IT HOLY! This is your home now: De Schorre, green, clean, and beautiful. Let’s look after her the way she deserves; breathe in the fresh air, leave no trash and dance barefoot on her Holy Grounds at least once.

PEOPLE OF TOMORROW,

ENJOY THE MOMENT! If there’s one thing to agree on, it’s that it has been too long. But you’re here now, at last. With a hand on your heart, take a moment to ground yourself before vouching to savour every moment!

People of Tomorrow... Here we are again, at last. We never did lose sight of each other over the past three years, remaining locked in each other’s hearts. Like one big family, we never stopped caring for each other. But to look into someone's eyes in real life is a different story. The eyes of someone who understands you, who shares common ground with you. Today marks the day that the wait is finally over. You have arrived at the Holy Grounds, you are about to celebrate your love for music, and finally meeting your fellow ravers from around the world!

STAIRWAY TO UNITY Tomorrowland has always been about making connections – and this year, a new artwork has been added to the Holy Grounds to reflect that. Called the Stairway to Unity, it forms a new connection between the lower part of the Mainstage arena and the higher grounds behind it, towards the DreamVille exit. These steps are actually a mosaic artwork made out of about 5 million pieces of ceramic, glass, and stone, covering a total surface area of roughly 700 square metres. The Stairway to Unity was designed by Cuban artist Michel Herrera Cuello and brought to life by French mosaic expert Jean-Christophe Duperron and Italian mosaic-laying company Mosaici Moruzzi, and it depicts the gathering of over 200 nationalities, in harmony with nature and full of love for one another, at the Holy Grounds each year. To celebrate its unveiling, send us a photo of you and your friends ascending to Unity through today@tomorrowland.com, and you may win a bottle of another new edition to this year’s festival - Tomorrowland Solo Vida sparkling wine.

WISDOM CASH-FREE LIKE A BIRD

A WARM WELCOME

Pearls are the official currency at Tomorrowland, which means your everyday cash won't work on the Holy Grounds. Pearls are uploaded to your wristband to make life easier for everyone – there’s no need to carry your wallet around, which also means you can’t lose it! You can pay with Pearls for literally anything at the Holy Grounds and DreamVille, so that’s food, drinks and also fashion. Topping up can be done online and on site.

GET YOUR PEARLS ONLINE Adding Pearls to your wristband online comes with a big advantage: you will receive an automatic refund for your unspent Pearls. Besides that, buying 60 or more of them at once means you’ll get bonus Pearls. Want to know more? Check out the My Bracelet section on the Tomorrowland website. You might know Boom as a near-mythical place, a one-off or oncea-year temporary residence. But for many, it is home year-round. It’s where their children grow up, where they go about their dayto-day business and where they welcome an influx of international spirits like yourself every summer. Mirror their open arms with an open heart; please treat your Belgian neighbours, and their hometown, with all your love and respect.

BUY PEARLS ON SITE Of course topping up your Pearls is also possible at various sites across both Tomorrowland and DreamVille. The Pearl-suspending booths accept Visa and Mastercard as well as cash. Remember that if you choose to use the booths to top up, you will need to fill out a form to get any leftover Pearls refunded.

TOMORROWLAND AT THE WHITE ISLE

Tomorrowland is like a blossoming tree planting its seeds across national borders, which is something famous Belgian brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike understand very well. They live and breathe the vibe of your beloved festival, making them its perfect ambassadors... and this is indeed their job at the heavenly island of Ibiza. From June 15th until September 21st, the two are playing a string of unforgettable poolside shows at the world-famous Balearic club known as Ushuaïa. To spruce up the nights, Dimi and Mike have invited lots of befriended artists to play Crystal Garden-inspired warm-up sets. Get your tickets through www.theushuaiaexperience.com!

DOWNLOAD THE APP OF TOMORROWLAND

The Tomorrowland grounds are vast, so finding your way around and making plans can be challenging. Over the course of these four days, the Tomorrowland App is your best friend, providing you with all the latest news and practical tips. It is also where you can listen to the Sound of Tomorrowland on One World Radio and watch the aftermovies from past editions. On top of that, the app offers exclusive mixes by artists associated with your beloved festival.

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

For a period of ten months from October 2022 to June 2023, a magical glamping oasis named Terra Solis is set to rise from the Arabian Peninsula’s desert. Stretching across 371,000 square metres at Al Yufra in Dubai, this will be the site of an endless series of parties and poolside events, inspired by the vibe that brought you here in Boom today. Centred around a paradise-like pool, Terra Solis is where you camp out in the desert without any of the inconveniences that you may normally associate with camping. The ‘rooms’ range from atmospheric tents that are fitted with beds and everything else you’d expect from a bedroom, plus a shared bathroom and toilet, to the luxurious Orion Pool Lodge, which is the top end of the Terra Solis places to stay. Dubai is halfway between Europe and many East Asian destinations, so why not chill by the pool during a layover? Daytrippers are always welcome to enjoy the best sounds of Tomorrowland plus some excellent drinks at Terra Solis. If you like dancing as well as relaxing, then you know where to book your next holiday after you’ve returned home from this one. It’s the best way to cure your Tomorrowland homesickness and you know it! Go to www.terrasolisdubai.com to book your stay. 7

SPREAD THE NEWS It's a collectible for some, but for most, it’s just a great tool to get to know their way around the festival: the Tomorrowland Today. Every morning, a fresh batch of newspapers can be found at the DreamVille District Houses, at the Farmhouse and in hotel lobbies. This year, with the environment in mind, there are fewer physical dailies available. So spread the news, pass on the paper or return it to the distribution points for others to enjoy. You can always reread it online via issuu.com/tomorrowlandtoday upon your return.

DREAMVILLE’S DAILY ACTIVITIES

DreamVille; your home away from home, this weekend’s haven and your literal go-to for some much-needed R&R in between the countless hours of dancing. How to make the most of your time here? COME TO GATHER First and foremost, never sleep on The Gathering, no matter how long the journey was before you arrived here today. All DreamVille and Global Journey ticket holders have access to Tomorrowland’s one and only official opening party. With the best (surprise!) artists and a crowd bursting with energy, it is without a doubt one not to miss. Be there on Thursday from 13h00 to 00h00. PERSONALISED PITCH Depending on which campsite area you’re staying at, some of the accommodations might look alike. This can be confusing, especially on your first night. Personalise your pitch with whatever you have on hand: create a flag from empty crisps bags or your best friend’s spare pair of trousers! MUNCHY MORNINGS If you’re a trained scout, you can probably whip up breakfast on the spot. If you’re more of an occasional camper, head to the bakery to grab a fresh loaf to sCORE bonus points with your tent-mate. Prefer the city way? Sip a fresh coffee while you order your morning munch at the Farmhouse.

REST & RECUPERATION Don’t worry, most dancing legs have had insufficient training lately. Woke up a bit sore or are you in need of some mental downtime after meeting so many new faces? Head to the DreamVille Chill Out Area to do just that: chill out & wind down. MEET A MATE What is Tomorrowland without the People of Tomorrow? Yes, that is indeed a rhetorical question. Get in on the action and befriend your fellows. Learn to say ‘good morning’ in your neighbour’s mother tongue, pass on this paper when you finish it with a hand-written note in it, or grab a coffee for the friend you’re yet to meet. BE YOUR BEST It’s not like you need it, of course. But if you feel like getting pampered, reserve a spot at Angels of Beauty. They do festival looks like nobody’s business! DreamVille’s official hair and beauty salons can be found at Marketplace and Montagoe. Get selfie-ready and book ahead.

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

CHILL-OUT AREA DreamVille’s Chill-Out is where exercise, entertainment and eating meet. Start your day here with a healthy breakfast and a tennis match, or stop over for a post-festival cocktail and hammock sesh. New this year is the Padel area. This relatively new and very popular sport is an intensely fun workout for 2x2 players. The padel court is available for 24 Pearls per hour, including rackets and balls for four players.

BALANCE AREA Head to the football field (right by the Chill Out Area) for some restorative movement. Prefer it nice and slow? A Yin Yoga class will hit the spot just right. It’s also a great first introduction to yoga for newbies. Like it a little rougher? Join one of the Power Yoga or Hatha Yoga classes for an intense workout for body and soul.

RECOVERY AREA Blend in with the fit crowd during your choice of group classes. Organised by Les Mills, Life Fitness and Pinkboxing, the variety of ways to move your bum are endless here. Get your blood pumping with a class of Bodypump, or reminisce about your childhood ballerina dreams with a Les Mills Barre class. Looking for last-minute inspo? A Sh’Bam class might teach you a dance move or two to try on the Holy Grounds after.

BELGIUM 2022

BE NICE TO YOURSELF Drink a lot of water. DreamVille can be a hot place and it’s the middle of summer. You’ll dance and walk a lot and drinking water will help you recover.

HOW TO CAMP IN HARMONY Loving yourself, the people around you as well as the animals and the plants is not just easy, it is good for everyone, as we all benefit from a healthy planet. Be kind, empathetic and considerate while you camp, so that we can all live in Harmony here at DreamVille and beyond – because living the good life at Tomorrowland will make your life journey more in tune with nature afterwards. Can you tick all of the boxes on this page? Of course you can!

RESPECT BOUNDARIES & ASK CONSENT

Detox with vitamins. There will be a wide variety of fruit juices available at the Farmhouse and the Marketplace.

Contribute to a great atmosphere by making sure everyone feels safe – check in by asking friends as well as strangers if they’re OK!

Eat healthily; we all want some grease sometimes, but why not try some vegetarian options and greens? They’re better for planet and body!

There’s a gym between the Farmhouse and the Marketplace. Give it a try - but don’t go too hard on yourself after a night of raving…

Feel like jogging? Come to the Farmhouse at 10 a.m. to meet up with fellow sporty campers for a morning run.

EVERY DROP COUNTS Don’t shower too long, you can’t get any cleaner at some point anyway!

Don’t leave taps running without using them.

Meat dishes require a lot more water to produce than plant-based food, so consider this when you order a meal.

Ride-share or use public transport to get to and from DreamVille whenever possible.

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

Use the recycle bins provided so materials can be reused as much as possible.

Bin broken things right away so no one gets hurt.

Don’t drink too much, though. Drinking more than 3 litres can be dangerous!

The Chill Out area offers morning yoga for beginners and pros alike. It’s a great way to start the day!

MINIMIZE YOUR FOOTPRINT

Fancy someone? Make 100% sure that the other person also fancies you before you do anything beyond a friendly chat. It’s as simple as asking, and only yes means yes. Being nice and friendly to people always makes life better. Help someone pitch their tent and make friends for life!

Travel light so you don’t have to carry too much back home when you’re feeling a little rough on Monday. Take everything with you, including the small things such as tent pegs!

We’re printing fewer copies of Tomorrowland Today this year. Don’t throw it away once you’re done reading it, but share it with others instead!

NEVER WASTE FOOD Only buy as much food as you’ll want to eat. Give your leftover food to someone who’s still hungry – not to the bin.

Consume your cold drinks quickly, before they go off !

ENJOY THE WEEKEND The most important tip of all: making an effort to do good will actually feel good in the end. Enjoy your stay at DreamVille!

THE WORLD OF TOMORROW

The past few years have been tough for many, but even more so for the vulnerable. With immense social distance and schools closing all over the world, Tomorrowland Foundation’s focus on supporting children and youngsters felt more urgent than ever. They have been working hard in making a positive difference for the future generation, and through them, the world of Tomorrow. Having supported the first Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts School in Nepal in 2018 and supporting the independent non-profit organisations Cunina, Mobile School and Ek Tara, the generosity of the People of Tomorrow is allowing for even more growth now. This year, two more Music & Arts Schools will open their doors, one in Kolkata, India, and one in Mbarara, Uganda. In Uganda, the first stones have already been laid for the Cunina Adullam Primary School. Vinita Saraf, founder of the Kolkata-based learning centre Ek Tara, shares what the Music & Arts School will add to their organisation. 14

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

TOMORROWLAND TODAY

BELGIUM 2022

Hi Vinita! Tell us why you started Ek Tara? “Being both born and raised in Kolkata, we were confronted every day with the precarious situation in which some girls and women here live. The slums of Kolkata are amongst the biggest in South-East Asia. Imagine: seven people living in a singleroom shack, on a monthly average budget of $70 max. Survival, not education, is their priority. Especially girls are victims of this, due to a deep-rooted patriarchal mindset: it is the start of a vicious circle of poverty and vulnerability to domestic violence and sexual abuse. We wanted to change this, which is how Ek Tara came into existence.” And then? Where do you start? “We started in 2011 with a group of only 30, training mothers in livelihood skills. Gradually, they understood the need to educate their daughters to secure a future for them. The fathers remained skeptical at first, almost to the point of threatening the existence of the organisation. But over the years, after seeing the impact and the dedication from our team, that shifted. Before we knew it, 1,500 girls and young women were attending classes with us, and there is a huge demand from the community to admit more.”

How do people benefit from Arts & Music classes? “They always have been an important part of our curriculum, as we don’t want to focus on just basic skills. Co-curricular activities, which enhance social confidence and take their minds away from the stresses of their lives at home, are of vital importance. Music and art lessons help them to fully express themselves, build self-esteem, stimulate creative thoughts and help them learn to stand up for themselves. It happens often that they discover a hidden artistic talent! The comprehensive development of a child would be incomplete without these types of classes.”

“We are the People of Tomorrow. We live today, love tomorrow and unite forever.”

What does the collaboration with the Tomorrowland Foundation mean for Ek Tara? “A lot! Tomorrowland’s support helps us spread the message of transforming marginalised communities through education and empowerment of girls. The problems we are working on, and the precarious situation in which many girls and women have to live, are issues faced across urban slums all around the world. With Tomorrowland championing this cause, we hope that more and more people will work towards eradicating this problem. Specifically, the support of Tomorrowland allows us to create a whole new and dedicated Music & Arts floor, equipped with state-of-theart teaching materials, and transform our rooftop into an open-air auditorium. Here, the children can show their skills to the world. Ek Tara means ‘a star’: we believe every child has the potential to shine when given access to education and opportunities for selfdevelopment. We’re so happy we will be able to extend our classes to many more children and bring out each of their talents.”

FEELING GOOD, LOOKING BETTER Three years of living apart never felt like not-together. It is a special connection that the People of Tomorrow share. More than meeting at the Holy Grounds, they are united in their love of music, their wild freedom and unstoppable positivity. All these elements come together in the TML by Tomorrowland collections, which luckily remained available all over the globe. Even when distance felt far and wide at times, in all corners of the world, you remained visibly part of this unique tribe through your choice of apparel. This weekend, finally, you will see it with your own two eyes: you all remained united, forever.

LTE EVENT COLLECTION If you’re looking for something unique as a gift to yourself or to a special someone, check out the LTE Event Collection. This exclusive line brings you true collector’s items, as the shirts, hoodie and gym bag are limited editions and feature this year’s incredible The Reflection of Love artwork. The black and white event shirts and hoodie are special items that will bring home all the warm emotions of your time at the Holy Grounds.

ICONIC COLLECTION Called Iconic Collection for a reason, the 2022 line of summer essentials is quintessential Tomorrowland. Featuring the Tomorrowland icon in bold floral print and in neutral statement pieces, these sun-kissed accessory and apparel items will quickly become your favourite staple pieces. Need some inspiration? Mix and match between the graphicon hoodie and shorts, for instance. Will you coordinate the top and bottom to match, or spice it up between, say, brown and white? The graphicon sets are available for all, so you and your partner in crime can match in summer style. And what says ‘summer’ more than fields full of flowers? Both the Kaleidoscope and Icon Bloom items depict ethereal floral patterns, bringing fairy-like vibes. Who wouldn’t love to take a bouquet from their wardrobe every day?

FROM BELGIUM WITH LOVE Good things happen when legends unite: adidas, the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) and Tomorrowland have co-created the bright and brandnew LOVE Collection. Blending the lines between football and festival, this collaboration has one important common goal: to spread a positive message of love, equality and diversity, but above all happiness, excitement and inspiration to the world. Inspired by Tomorrowland’s bright fireworks, the LOVE collection is an explosion of colour, mesmerising with its innovative, vibrant vibe and a keen eye for detail. The collection is designed to capture the hearts and minds of the People of Tomorrow from all corners of the world, no matter what age, gender, race, political or religious background. Ranging from tops to footwear to bucket hats, the collection will offer something to everyone’s taste. Come together and dance, exercise, or just roam the streets wearing these bold, graphic prints to bring instant happiness to wearers and onlookers alike.

REFLECTION OF LOVE This year’s magical theme is the inspiration behind the Reflection of Love Capsule Collection. Designed with a lot of attention to detail, focus on finishing and high-quality fabrics, this one-off collection features eye-catching artwork. The exclusive collection, designed especially for this summer’s three-week reunion, includes a series of t-shirts, hoodies and long sleeves, as well as accessories like sunglasses. Its dedicated jewellery line offers the choice between silver, black and gold. Pick your favourite between the silver icon ring, the embossed black leather bracelet, or one of the many gold options such as the luxury TML x Komono watch with a gold round case, for a minimalist yet luxurious fashion statement. Prefer something a bit more maximal? Let the intricate, otherworldly medallion with astrology-inspired pendants radiate around your neck.

WISDOM SUN IS SHINING, SUNSCREEN IS SWEET

HOW TO BE A STAR You’re never too young to learn and… never too old! That’s why Tomorrowland Academy offers courses for ravers of all ages. The sessions for kids took place from 11 to 14 July with sessions for under thirteens in the mornings and those for older teenagers in the afternoons. Beatmatching, EQ-ing, filtering and looping are among the things taught to the young superstars-to-be. For adults, Tomorrowland also includes music production in the courses, with a beginner-level package being offered from 18 to 21 July and the advanced level course from 25 to 28 July. This year’s sessions are all sold out – so prick up your ears, both for the wave of new talent coming, and for the chance to book a spot next year through academy. tomorrowland.com.

Dancing for hours in the sun is lots of fun but it can also be exhausting. Keep an eye on yourself and your friends at all times. Stay hydrated, use sunscreen and take plenty of breaks.

LOVE THE MUSIC, PROTECT YOUR EARS Loud music is a beautiful thing, but if you want to enjoy it from up close and yet for many years to come, earplugs are an absolute necessity. That is why Tomorrowland has teamed up with Loop, a critically acclaimed Belgian hearing protection brand, for a co-created, limited-edition pair of Tomorrowland x Loop Experience Earplugs. Each Experience Earplug is built around an innovative, 18 decibel-reducing acoustic channel that helps users enjoy music responsibly without compromising on sound quality. Together Loop and Tomorrowland celebrate those who go front row – who live out loud and dance like everyone’s watching – while also taking care of their ears. Find the Tomorrowland x Loop Experience Earplugs at one of the several Loop stores indicated on the floor plan. Loop’s separate range for sleeping, the Quiet plugs, are available across shops on DreamVille. And if you fancy some free noise reduction, send us an email at today@tomorrowland.com explaining which artist you would most like to go front row at, and why. You’ll stand a chance to win a pair of Experience Earplugs!

THREE WEEKS, THREE CHANNELS

LOVE TOMORROW CONFERENCE

There’s always a way to hear, see and feel what’s going on at the Holy Grounds, even when for some reason you can’t move yourself and your tired dancing feet from DreamVille to Tomorrowland. If you ever find yourself in this situation, simply flick on the livestream. You can also tune in to it between the three Tomorrowland weekends, when it is the goto place to review the performances of the previous weekend, and to preview those scheduled for the upcoming four days of magical madness. There are always three channels to choose from: the main feed, the alternative feed and the One World Radio feed, just like in the good old days of TV. The livestream is easy to access via Tomorrowland.com and the app.

Tomorrowland is dedicated to caring for Planet Earth and is working hard towards reducing its CO2 and water footprints, with the intention of reaching full circularity in the foreseeable future. In collaboration with their partner Love Tomorrow, the festival aims to achieve a spillover effect into parts of society beyond the grounds here in Boom. It is with this idea in mind that the first edition of Love Tomorrow, a conference centered around sustainability themes, takes place on the festival grounds on the Thursday ahead of the third Tomorrowland weekend. The conference program will feature inspiring presentations by pioneering speakers such best-selling author Yuval Noah Harari, renowned filmmaker Ali Tabrizi, as well as techno artist and environmental activist Ida Engberg. More than just a conference, this unique event by Love Tomorrow will also feature magical live entertainment, including classic Tomorrowland elements such as a Daybreak Session. For more info and tickets for the event, which will take place on 28 July 2022, go to lovetomorrowconference.com.

TOMORROWLAND WINTER It’s only a few months ago that some of you skied down the slopes of Alpe d’Huez and danced at mind-boggling altitudes. Some of the world’s best DJs played at stages which were dotted across some of the most beautiful mountains in Europe, including one at no less than 3300 metres. And where else in the world could you have seen heroes such as Charlotte de Witte, Armin van Buuren and Steve Aoki strolling through a little snowy town carrying their skies and snowboards? 2022’s edition came with even more comfort than the first one in 2019, as the Mainstage was all indoors, with a starry sky to look up to, all in magical Tomorrowland style. Other stages at Tomorrowland Winter included Crystal Garden, right up in the mountains with room for 4000 ravers, and Moose Bar, an incredibly unique après-ski bar, equipped for serious partying. Sounds like something you wouldn’t want to miss next year? Then we have good news for you: in 2023 another edition will see the light from 18-23 March. 7-Day packages go on sale 25 September and 4-Day passes are available a week further down the line. If speed, snow and music are your things, then this is where you want to go. Find your tickets at tomorrowland.com. THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

Eating out at the Holy Grounds

as you move or enjoy a sit-down dinner in a restaurant that boasts vistas you never even dared dream of. Are you new and slightly overwhelmed with the sheer amount of options? Or is this your umpteenth time here and do you believe you’ve tried and tasted it all? Think, and savour, again. And again! A good place to start would be the brand-new Mesa Garden. This ‘culinary chill’ area is the perfect place to relax, enjoy a good glass of wine and take in all the sights, scents and sounds. All are heartily invited to enjoy its offerings!

M E S A’ S S H A R I N G DISHES By now, ‘Mesa’ is probably a name you’re familiar with. Tomorrowland’s own Antwerpbased restaurant opened its doors in 2018, and this year, they are bringing their friends to the festival site. Mesa’s own chef Xavier Van Hecke will happily introduce the lucky few voucher-holders amongst the People of Tomorrow to typical and authentic flavours from all corners of the world in sharing bites, dips, and surprising cocktails. Mesa takes its guests on a culinary journey around the globe – the perfect place to visit with friends, share bites and stories together and make magical memories. Although the restaurant itself is already almost fully booked, the whole Mesa Gardens area is inspired by its philosophy and open to all. So drop by and enjoy dishes inspired by this worldwide gathering of tastes!

GOURMET VEGAN The celebrity chefs of the Wußler family are bringing high-end vegan food to the Mesa Garden, underlining that you don’t need meat for a culinary treat. The Wußlers run the well-known restaurant Ponyhof and are the people behind the culinary platform ChefsTalk, making them world-famous names in the industry. They are curating a top-shelf vegan offer, and that’s not all: you can even opt for a special wine tasting experience with a personal sommelier along with your food!

SOLO VIDA Bonding lives… Magically

Solo Vida is a premium sparkling wine, made especially for Tomorrowland with the finest quality grapes — a beautiful alliance between people, nature, altitude, sunshine and traditions. Each drop of Solo Vida is something truly special, and to appreciate it to the fullest, head to the Solo Vida Wine Bar. Here you can order by the bottle, which is a piece of art in itself. A special bottle for a special moment: treat yourself and your friends and find a comfy spot, in the secret garden perhaps, to enjoy the intense, elegant and balanced notes of white fruit of this fresh and fruity sparkling wine.

TOMORROWLAND KITCHEN Two-star Michelin chef Bart de Pooter is known as a culinary inspirator, having been named Gault&Millau Chef of the Year (2012). His restaurant Pastorale got its second star in 2006 and he’s been a much-beloved part of Tomorrowland’s culinary line-up for years. Want to know why eyes light up whenever his name is on the menu? Head to his own Tomorrowland Kitchen and try some of his mostly fish-based dishes.

MESA BITES Don’t worry, Mesa won’t bite you, but you can bite into Mesa bites. This year, Mesa has invited some of their cuisine-companions to join them in offering four different food experiences. One of these bites is prepared by Thomas Van der Flaas, a true rising star in his native country of Belgium. He’s turning 28 during his three-week stay at Tomorrowland, but he is already at the helm of his own renowned restaurant: Thomas Van der Flaas runs Seir and is part of ‘Remember the Name’, a talent pool supported by Tomorrowland. All you need to do is taste a bite of his master dishes to understand why. Run to Thomas’ stand at the Mesa Garden for the most picturesque slow-cooked pork cheek glazed with lemongrass and baked langoustine that you can imagine.

S P E C I A L M E AT C U T S De Laet is a well-known name in the region amongst all meat lovers. Strongly focussed on specialty meats, The Butcher brings the craft back to its essence. With a range of fine artisan cuts, their delicacies are carefully selected. Looking for not just any, but the finest selection of meat available? Head to The Butcher and he will be able to tell you all about it.

CLASSY CONVERSATION STARTERS High-end dining comes with sophisticated tête-à-têtes. Here are some conversation starters to spark a posh chat!

“No wonder the food here is so amazing; the first international copy of the Michelin Guide was published in Belgium in 1904!”

“Crazy but intriguing: not all wine is vegan! But I don’t discriminate, do you?”

“Your dessert looks lovely. In Mayan times, cacao beans were used as currency and considered to be worth more than gold dust. I like both chocolate and gold though, what about you?”

“Rumour has it that there are over 10,000 acres of Grenache vineyards in China.”

“Did you know ‘wagyu’ just means ‘Japanese cow’? Do you prefer Kobe Beef or Kobe Bryant?”

WISDOM LOOK, DON’T TOUCH

JOIN THE MARCH Thursday isn’t just any day in the enchanted city of DreamVille; it is Gathering day! If you’re looking to get the best view of it and experience some surprising moments, head straight to the Red Bull Basecamp. We can’t divulge all the details yet, but a unique stage selfie is guaranteed!

A massive amount of effort is involved in bringing the worlds of Tomorrowland to life every year, and everyone should be able to enjoy the festival and DreamVille decorations to the fullest. Please take good care of it; no touching, climbing, ‘borrowing’ or breaking anything!

Once the Gathering is done and dusted, and the gates to the Holy Grounds open up, Red Bull is also set to give you wings with a whole new Tomorrowland ritual. Every festival day at 13h30 sharp, come together at the Basecamp, from where a full-on marching band will escort you to the festival site. Join the party and arrive on-site with your hands already up and your hips swinging – all thanks to the marching band’s upliftings guidance. The only downside? You might find yourself unintentionally tooting an imaginary horn, swaying to the rhythms of your dreams or fist-pumping into the air for the rest of the week. The Red Bull Basecamp is opened on Thursday from 13h00-01h00, and on Friday-Sunday from 10h00-14h00.

A CAPITAL FESTIVAL The seeds for CORE Festival, a collaboration between Tomorrowland and Rock Werchter, were planted back in 2017 when the CORE stage first appeared in Boom. The concept: a platform for sonic creativity by the best electronic artists with a focus on techno. One thing led to another, and the first CORE Festival saw the light just two months ago, in May 2022. For the event, the concept of the CORE stage was extended to include more genres of club music as well as hip-hop, with a line-up including artists such as Jamie XX, Nas, Jungle, Paul Kalkbrenner, Peggy Gou, Caribou, Fatima Yamaha, Action Bronson, Mura Masa, Lous and the Yakuza, The Blaze, Denzel Curry, SOHN, Sylvie Kreusch and Cellini. The critically and publically acclaimed first edition welcomed 40,000 visitors across two days, who enjoyed not only the best in forward-thinking music, but also state of the art sound and light installations as well as exquisite food from various global cuisines. Naturally, the splendid first edition of CORE Festival was only the beginning of a journey, and the next edition is already one to look forward to. It will take place in Osseghem Park on 27 and 28 May 2023 in Brussels, Belgium. Secure your tickets now through COREfestival.com.

REMEMBER THE NAME When you put together ‘Tomorrowland’ and ‘upcoming talent’, your first (and only?) association might be ‘music’. But there is so much more to Tomorrowland than only music, it is the total package; from culinary surprises to magnificent artwork, from the beautiful People of Tomorrow to the rawest, unreleased tracks and from mind-blowing artists to the best apparel to take home. That’s why Tomorrowland invited talents from four different industries to become part of Remember the Name, their very own talent pool. This year’s pool includes Food Talent, restaurant owner and chef Thomas Van der Flaas; the bold and colourful Art Talent Jamel Armand; creative jack-of-all-trades Manon Boertien as Fashion Talent; and Music Talent Azteck, an established producer become DJ. The group first met at Tomorrowland Winter and they have been sharing their adventure with the world ever since. Via rememberthename. tomorrowland.com, you can learn all about Jamel, Thomas, Azteck and Manon and keep track of their special Tomorrowland assignments. Will they make their professional dreams come true this year? Tune in!

F R O M H O LY GROUNDS TO GLOBAL A I RWAV E S

Initially launched as a temporary project to celebrate Tomorrowland’s 15-year anniversary, One World Radio ended up staying in our lives forever. Over the past few years, the official sound of Tomorrowland never stopped entertaining and educating us when the going got tough and now that we’re back to partying in real life, it is still here to enhance our lives as ravers. Over the course of the three weeklong Tomorrowland season, One World Radio will broadcast live from the various stages. What’s more, the station has a real premiere this year as the studio is now located where the action is: on the festival site itself ! As People of Tomorrow, you will be able to walk right into the studio to become part of the magic yourself.

WORLD 2022’s Tomorrowland edition is the first one in Boom since 2019 and during the years in between, radio in general and One World Radio in particular has played a very important role in many of our lives. Whilst some of you may have suffered hardships, music and radio has always been there, remaining a source of inspiration for everyone who loves partying. We all knew we’d party again one day and One World Radio was always there to remind us of that joyful fact. “We were a beacon of hope,” says Adam K, who presents the daily afternoon show United Through Music. “It’s a special feeling to be listening to a radio show, it somehow feels like you’re doing the same thing as other people at the same time.” Adam, along with his fellow presenters at One World Radio, took on great responsibilities during the pandemic, keeping people sane. Now that it’s all over, it’s time to enjoy life to the fullest again. That doesn’t come with great changes for Adam: “I’ve not been off air a

single day since we started the station over three years ago. You’re never more than a few hours away from Adam K, is what I always say to people.” With his daily six-hour show on the station, we can safely take Adam’s word for it.

various stages including CORE, Freedom, Cage and of course the Mainstage is also included. From 10 p.m. until the last fireworks light up the sky, One World Radio will broadcast the Mainstage performances without interruption.

With regular shows like The Daybreak Session, named after the first slot on Tomorrowland’s Mainstage, One World Radio is very closely connected to the festival throughout the year. The programming on the station is set to be even more special during the Tomorrowland weekends, when it’s the only platform to broadcast the legendary opening party The Gathering on Thursday. From Friday to Sunday then, Justin Wilkes will be on studio duty between midday and 5 p.m., before Adam K takes over for another five hours of live broadcasting. As always, the programming will be a mix of interviews with many of the performing artists as well as lots of People of Tomorrow passing by. Live footage from the

One World Radio’s most exciting new feature for 2022 is a brand new studio, built on Tomorrowland’s Holy Grounds, more or less between the Rave Cave and Harbour House, adjacent to the watchtower. Not only has the studio been built right where the action is, it is also publicly accessible to anyone. So don’t be shy: walk in to say hi and wave to the people you used to know only by the sound of their voice! The times when Justin, Adam and all of the other presenters spent their days in anonymity are now anout to be over, as you’ll soon be able to put a face to the names you know from One World Radio. As Adam K puts it: “We’ll be like goldfish in a fishbowl and you know what, I’m looking forward to it!” Listen to One World Radio via tomorrowland.com or via the Tomorrowland App, wherever you are and whenever you want.

A P R E - PA RT Y OF GRAND PROPORTIONS Some people play it smart and you are one of them! You’ve come early, to slowly get used to your new life. It’s set to change forever, after all, starting with these four days ahead. Once you’ve pitched your tent, you simply must head to the ultimate warm-up party: The Gathering. This is where you’ll hear the first snares, beats, riffs and drops! Beware, though, as this warm-up session is much bigger than many other regular events in their entirety... For several years now, the Dreamville gates have opened on Thursday to spread the traffic a little and to give you time to find your way around. Once everyone’s arrived, it’s time to explore and that’s when you’ll come across a glorious stage in full Tomorrowland style. It’s not that you’ll find any spoilers to the real thing here, but the stage at The Gathering certainly feels like Tomorrowland in every way imaginable. Call it the quiet before the storm, if you will – though ‘quiet’ is a relative notion here. This is the typical thing that happens to people

who arrive at DreamVille on Thursday: by arriving early they think they’ll take it slow to start with, but they generally end up having a hell of a good time at the dance floor before they know it. Musically, The Gathering brings the best of the rave history Belgium has to offer, and with a rich heritage of clubs such as Cafe d’Anvers and La Rocca plus labels like R&S and Bonzai, that really is a lot. DJs playing The Gathering this year include Double Pleasure, Regi vs. Yves V, and a number of surprise acts that are set to drop a jaw or two. 27

MARTIN GARRIX Animals made him an instant star when it dropped back in 2013 and Martin Garrix has never left the building since. A star so popular you could think of him as the Justin Bieber of EDM, he’s also an excellent and open-minded DJ, always keen to add new flavours to his sets and productions. That sense of excitement means he simply has to come back every time.

TOMORROWLAND’S PREMIER LEAGUE

Tomorrowland is a hotbed of creativity, the place where the world’s best DJs and performers flourish like nowhere else. And it wouldn’t be that way without the People of Tomorrow, the dedicated fans travelling from all over the world to enjoy the best music. These three weekends are the highlight of the year for the artists playing for that very reason. With some of them, the chemistry is so strong that they are asked to return year after year – recharging them as well as you with enough love to make it to the next edition easily. Here’s why some of them are at the Holy Grounds to stay. 28

SUnNERY JAMES & RYAN MARCIANO These two DJ/producers from Amsterdam play house music, but not as you know it. Sunnery and Ryan somehow manage to make everything sound bigger, better and bolder than their peers. Add to that a healthy dose of funk and a sprinkling of suspense and there you have it: Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano in a nutshell.

CHARLOTTE DE WITTE

HARDWELL

Charlotte is simply in a league of her own. Unlike many of her techno peers, she manages to mesmerise techno heads and casual fans alike with her incredible energy and banging taste in big-room belters. Now, you may be tired after raving every once in a while, but never after a Charlotte de Witte gig. You’ll feel more alive than ever instead.

It’s just like with old friends. You’ve not seen each other for years, but when you do see each other again, it’s all good. The king of uplifting EDM was a mainstay at Tomorrowland for years, then took a welldeserved break, and he’s back in 2022 to celebrate the fact that Rebels Never Die. Let’s bring it on!

AFROJACK

NERVO

GIANLUCA VACCHI

It’s not just because the master of Dutch house is (almost) ten feet tall that he’s a Tomorrowland household name. More than anything, Nick van de Wall understands the art of reinventing himself. He’s done big EDM tracks, but he still loves his house music and as Kapuchon, he’s a techno artist to be reckoned with. It’s that versatile energy that Tomorrowland just can’t do without.

It’s a family affair! Olivia and Miriam Nervo have been enjoying music together all of their lives and it shows when they bang out their euphoric cuts on stage. NERVO have a kind of sixth sense which helps them become one with their crowds. Have you ever seen tens of thousands of smiling faces at a single time? NERVO play Tomorrowland three times this year, and for good reason!

Still a relatively new ‘kid’ on the block, this famous Italian businessmanDJ certainly isn’t a teenager anymore. Never mind his age though, Vacchi takes credits for bringing unexpected Latin flavours to Ibiza, and that’s just what he’s been doing at Tomorrowland for the past few years. Gianluca is a hit and he knows it!

STEVE AOKI

DIMITRI VEGAS & LIKE MIKE

MR. RAKKA

These Belgo-Greek brothers from the same mother are arguably the most recognisable Tomorrowland icons. The two have ranked No. 1 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list before, and it’s not hard to see why… Where else do you see crowds sing along and jump around like you do at a Dimi & Mike set?

It’s not just that he holds a degree in philosophy and thus represents Wisdom, it’s also that he is perhaps the single most energetic DJ at Tomorrowland and thus represents Energy itself. Mr. Rakka is an allround DJ with a fine feeling for what the Harbour House crowd needs to keep jumping at any given moment. Go check out his scratching skills and you’ll know why he’s been a mainstay for years.

Californian master entertainer Steve Aoki brings West Coast bravery to Boom. Initially known to always celebrate his birthday by throwing cakes in people’s faces, we now know this passionate skateboarder always brings a box full of surprises and Tomorrowland wouldn’t be Tomorrowland without this man’s cheeky energy.

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

ARMIN VAN BUUREN Armin van Buuren, trance music’s longest-lasting hero, played Tomorrowland’s very first edition back in 2005 and remains a source of inspiration for people around the world. Always smiling, friendly and positive, this utterly likeable man is capable of lifting his crowds up like very few in this world can.

Daybreak session: Jamie Jones

Mc Chucky 12h00 - 14h30

FREEDOM

The idea behind the Daybreak Sessions is as follows: world class veteran DJs are invited to play an extended session with lower BPMs, packed with jams they usually don’t get to play out in clubs. It’s a concept so unique, One World Radio even named its breakfast show after it. Whilst the sessions are all about easing into the day, this first one of 2022 is far from casual. With a wide range of activities on his resume including heading the Hot Creations label, curating his own Paradise events series, and being a CORE member of the wildly eclectic group Hot Natured, playing a Daybreak Session will be right up Jamie Jones’s alley. A lot of the electronic music we listen and move to these days feels warm, positive and melodic and is miles away from the harsher, more minimal styles that people used to associate the genre with. One of the architects of that sound is – you’ve guessed it – Jamie Jones. His love for house, deep house and wide knowledge of the history of pop music is always noticeable while he plays his techno. This man clearly doesn’t think in terms of genres. Instead, he blends his favourite abstract club sounds with vocal cuts such as Darius Syrossian’s White Rabbit, a dance floor version of the classic track by legendary San Francisco band Jefferson Airplane. Expect a set where house and techno are the ‘teachers’, with lots of hints and snippets of interesting musical genres of the past. So make your way to the Mainstage early to step onto the dancefloor, have breakfast there and learn more about the history of music while you listen to the incredible Mr. Jamie Jones!

F R I DAY

M A I N S TAG E

CELLINI 14H30 | 15H30 Gianmarco Cellini, better known simply as Cellini, is a proud Italo-Belgian DJ. His granddad came from Italy to work in the Belgian mines, and now that the Italian legacy is slowly disappearing, Cellini takes pride in adding subtle Italian elements to his music that aren’t normally associated with techno. Ahead of this wonderful weekend of magic, Cellini opens up about his debut at the Mainstage, Italian folk music, and his family.

As a local techno DJ hailing from Belgium, what is Tomorrowland like for you? “Tomorrowland feels like my second home, it really does feel like coming home. It’s an amazing feeling to arrive at Tomorrowland on the first day and to see all my friends, especially those who live abroad. I don’t see them on a regular basis, so it feels good to see everybody reunited. My plan is to come back on Saturday to see my friend Netsky and to catch Adriatique doing their thing. One day is never enough at Tomorrowland, so I’m staying for three days.”

but then turns into a bombastic spectacle. ‘Late at Night’ has it all. The build-up takes some time, but when it gets going, the track explodes. I’m sure the Mainstage will contribute to that vibe even more. It’s a pity AMOS can’t be there, but that’s for a happy reason: she is due to give birth any day now.”

Congratulations on your upcoming debut on Mainstage. How did getting the news make you feel? “Thank you, it’s so lit! It got confirmed six months ago and the tension has been building slowly since then. I go around, do my thing and live my life, but every now and then it pops up in my mind. It still feels surreal to me, to be honest. I can’t imagine myself being up there. This is one of the rare gigs that will make me nervous. To keep my nerves in check, I’m watching every set on the Tomorrowland Mainstage at home – from previous editions as well as this year. With that trick I can get used to the vibe and see what works and what doesn’t work at the Mainstage.”

so I try to include old Italian songs in my DJ sets.”

Do you have something special in mind for the People of Tomorrow at the Mainstage? “This Friday, my new track ‘Late at Night’ is being released on Tomorrowland Music. It’s such a cool track, partly thanks to vocalist AMOS, who really is amazing. The track itself starts slowly enough,

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

“I take pride in my Italian roots,

Can you describe the creative process between the two of you? “AMOS and I have been working together for a while now. We got introduced to each other through mutual friends in the studio and the first track we did was a year ago. I asked her if she could do the vocals on this track I produced, and I was so impressed by her talent. The process is very hands-on: I never send any tracks to her; she wants to hear them in the studio for the first time and then does the lyrics on the spot. I fully trust her with this.” Besides being creative in the studio, a little birdy told us that you are also very creative in the kitchen. How come? “I grew up in the kitchens of my Italian grandmother and in my dad’s business. Recently, my two biggest passions were united at CORE

M AG I C A L

festival. My dad was running the pizza food stand and it’s the coolest thing to see my old man doing what he does best. They gave him such a cosy place in the woods and it quickly became a meeting point for my friends. I still have so much to learn from my dad. He improvises all the time while doing his craft. I should do this more with my sets too – he reads the crowd and the vibe and just goes from there, just like an expert DJ!” Do those Italian, culinary roots influence your music at all? Do you still feel a strong connection to your family’s country? “As a young kid, I’d travel to Italy with my family every summer. My grandparents would listen to Italian folk music in the car on these old cassette tapes. I take pride in my Italian roots, so I try to include that old stuff in my DJ sets. I still listen to these songs and collect cool vocals from there, which I always have with me when playing. If the vibe is there, I’ll mix an old Italian song into my set. It is such a profound feeling when it works, and the crowd loves it!” It sounds like you have a lot to thank your parents and grandparents for indeed! Will La Familia be at Tomorrowland? “Of course! My parents always join me to gigs, and my cousins will be there as well. Even my friends from Italy will come over, and there’s a lot of them. I’ve waited so long for this moment, I think I will just have to experience it before I can actually comprehend that it is real. Personally, I do get more nervous playing for people that I know well. But I can’t wait to make all of my family and friends proud!”

FREEDOM Q-DANCE

Laidback Luke

presENTS Wayback Luke

MAINSTAGE | 12H00 Daybreak sessions have slowly become an institution at Tomorrowland over the years. The concept: experienced DJs who are normally scheduled to play at peak time are invited to warm up like they used to in the early days of their careers. But with all the experience and musical knowledge they’ve gathered over the years, these warm-up sessions aren’t the support sets they used to play back in the day. Expect something like an overview of the music they like or a more chilled-out set. Second one up this year is Laidback Luke. Probably the most admired EDM DJ among underground music heads, there’s a reason for the peculiar position between mainstream and indie scenes that Laidback Luke holds. He first started getting into dance music during the early nineties when various genres of electronic music including techno, trance and house were championed at the very same raves. The sounds soon started to become associated with different scenes and fan bases with widely diverging lifestyles and views on life. Never one for pigeonholing practices, Luke simply kept that versatile approach to loving and playing music, so when EDM came along, he also embraced the grandness of the sound. Due to his extensive musical knowledge, Laidback Luke’s sets are stuffed with goodies from all genres and eras, with various intensities and tempos. Luke and electronic music of all kinds go way back and that’s why this performance is set to be a one-of-a-kind Daybreak Session that is not to be missed.

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

TOMORROWLAND TODAY

BELGIUM 2022

SAT U R DAY

M A I N S TAG E

SUNNERY JAMES & RYAN MARCIANO 20H40 | 21H40

Mainstays of the Dutch house scene for close to 15 years, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano’s sound quickly became popular with lovers of funkier, percussion-driven house music. They were catapulted to mainstream success after collaborating with Nicky Romero on ‘SOTU’ in 2013. In the same year, their ‘Sexy by Nature’ club concept kicked off in Ibiza, and has become a household name among people who aren’t in it for the jumping, but for the body-groovin’. This year, they are playing a string of Mainstage sets as well as hosting Sexy by Nature stages. Before Weekend 2, we sat down with Sunnery James to have a chat about their experience. Sunnery, first of all: how does it feel to be back at Tomorrowland? “Where do I even start? For the last two or three years we have been waiting for this moment. We knew the timeslot on the Mainstage was going to be amazing – 20h40 ‘till 21h40, sunset-time. That was confirmed two years ago, so we had to wait a bit, but it was unbelievable when we first came on last weekend! We loved the energy! All the people were into it, we played a lot of new music and the reaction was amazing. It felt like coming home to doing what we love the most. The Sexy By Nature Stage last Sunday was even more special – it’s just such a big honour to host your own area at Tomorrowland. I can’t wait for Weekend 2!”

The backstage at some festival is a jolly mess, but here it’s so beautiful and everything is thought out. We’re so glad to be part of it as artists.”

You just mentioned the long time we all had to wait for this moment. Has anything about Tomorrowland changed or is it still the same? “The international dance scene was dead for some time in a sense, but to see how Tomorrowland built it back with the ‘Reflection of Love’ motto and the whole message around it, how they improved again after all those years, is just insane. The festival looks better than ever, the vibe is better than ever. The people at the festival have an amazing experience, but the same goes for the artists, even backstage.

As you’ve mentioned you’re playing both the Mainstage and the Sexy by Nature Stage. How are these two sets different? “The set on the Mainstage is in a sense a resume or a summary of our set at the Sexy By Nature Stage. We love to play for two or two and a half hours, so we really have to try to condense all of that energy into the shorter set on the Mainstage. If you want to see the extended version and the full Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano experience, you’ll have to visit the Sexy by Nature Stage. But one thing is for sure: the atmosphere on the Mainstage is hard to match.”

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

You just mentioned the theme, the Reflection of Love. What does it mean to you? “It’s an amazing slogan. Everybody has their own perception of it. With all the bad things that can happen in life, it’s important to remember that love always wins. That’s the main message at Tomorrowland, this year even more than ever. For me it also means to always retrace your steps back to love, and then you’ll see what really matters.”

INCREDIBLE

You’ve just released your ‘Truth of rhe Mind’ EP. Which of these three songs do you think best captures the Tomorrowland energy? “For me it would be ‘Oeng Baka’. My parents are from Suriname, and in the local language it means ‘we’re back and we’re going to make it happen’. That’s the whole message of the song, and together with the drums and the positive energy in it… that’s just pure Tomorrowland vibes. Tomorrowland is all passion, everybody puts so much energy into it. You can take, take, take, but if you give, you get more out of it. Tomorrowland is about giving and receiving, and the song encapsulates that as well.” Last but not least, what’s something that people coming to Tomorrowland for the first time simply have to see or experience? “First of all: The music. The music is the first thing that connects the people here. Different nations come together at Tomorrowland, politics don’t matter when you’re partying here and having a good time. But that’s something you don’t need to tell the people that come here. If you’re not into that, you wouldn’t feel drawn to this festival. It’s so natural.”

Daybreak session: DJ Licious & Delafino

12h00 - 14h30

By Sunday, the concept of the Daybreak Session shouldn’t hold any secrets for you anymore: a laidback set that goes deep rather than hard, warming up the Mainstage for the onslaught of high-octane beats to come. Up today are two longstanding friends of Tomorrowland, known to always deliver the sweetest house vibes to dancers at DreamVille as well as various smaller stages around the festival.

With roughly 50 years of DJ experience between them, DJ Licious & Delafino having been making the rounds of the Belgian club scene for a very long time. Always having kept a relatively low profile, these two are no global celebrities – they simply prefer to focus on their passion: bringing house music to the people. DJ Licious is a DJ and producer with some pretty major collaborations, remixes and original tracks to his name, including ‘Come Along’, ‘I Hear You Calling’ and ‘I Can’t Stop’ – all driving and eminently danceable house tracks that would work at a big outdoor stage as well as in smaller clubs. As a DJ, however, he is well able to take things in more varied directions, as evidenced by his long-running club concept SHOMI, which displays a wide selection of house sounds.

Perhaps even more than his partner today, Delafino is an oldschool DJ, eschewing production for an endless string of performances from Boom to Ibiza and back. He’ll usually take his crowds on a journey from laidback, funk-infused tracks to acid-tinged, bass-heavy steppers, with a lot of vocal house in between. Years of experience gave him that spot-on sense of how to time the mix just right – just so that absolutely no one who is listening could stay still. Take a lesson in the Ibiza house sound with these two veterans at the Mainstage today!

TOMORROWLAND TODAY

BELGIUM 2022

S U N DAY

FREEDOM

AMBER BROOS 15H00 | 16H30 Being born into a musical family isn’t unusual for a DJ but being an electronic artist, Amber Broos has been particularly blessed: her father is a fellow DJ. It was indeed her dad who introduced Amber to the classic Belgian sounds of the ‘90s and also inspired her to become a DJ. This eventually led her to win a prize when she was still in her early teens back in 2016. The event has gone down in history as a milestone in her career and her set today at Tomorrowland will definitely qualify as another one. Let’s dive a little deeper into the unusual story of this nineteen-year-old DJ.

What does it mean for you as a young Belgian artist to play Tomorrowland for the first time? “Someone asked me what I wanted to achieve in my DJ career when I was thirteen. I said then I hoped to be playing Tomorrowland one day. I can hardly believe it’s happening now! I’ll be playing the Freedom Stage – the stage where Paul Kalkbrenner, Claptone and Artbat, artists I greatly admire for their music and their unique sound, will also be performing.” What are your first memories of Tomorrowland? “I’ve never been old enough to even enter the festival. My friends would always talk about how great it is and I was really counting down to my eighteenth birthday… and then corona came along. To be DJ’ing here before visiting as a raver feels pretty special.”

What gets you more excited, house or techno, and why? “I like both genres very much. If you’d force me to choose, I would say techno, because I love the energy of the genre. I like to build up to techno by playing some tech house though.”

snacks. Which I really appreciate when I get hungry at 4 in the morning. What I’m most happy about is my technical rider! When I first started DJ’ing, I didn’t have a rider. This led to hilarious situations where the controllers literally fell apart halfway into my set, they’d have to be stuck together with tape! That’s where I’ve come from, so I’m extra happy to be able to play with quality gear now.”

“My hospitality rider dates back to when I was fifteen,

What’s it like having a dad who’s also a DJ? You surely have a lot to talk about? “Like me, my father started DJ’ing at a very young age. He began playing at fifteen and his passion has never faded since. As a kid, I was allowed to come and listen to him from time to time, which I loved. When I was eleven, my father started a DJ school at our house. Suddenly there were young DJs coming over all the time. It didn’t take long before I, too, started DJ’ing. In terms of technical skills, my father has been my great mentor. Our discussions about music at the

kitchen table can be called legendary. I am very happy to share my passion with someone who completely understands it.”

so I urgently need to update it...”

Which functionality on a mixer do you love the most? “I like to use the echo and space effects. These effects add an extra dimension to the music, without touching the essence of the track.” Tell us about the most essential item on your rider and why it’s so important to you? “My hospitality rider dates back to when I was fifteen, so I urgently need to update it. At the moment it still contains cola, candy and

GLORIOUS

What’s your favourite place to DJ in the world besides Tomorrowland? “Three years ago, I had the opportunity to play in Ibiza at a club overlooking the sea. That view combined with a really crazy crowd created a very special atmosphere. This summer I will be playing Ushuaïa and I hope to have an equally memorable moment. I’m really looking forward to it!”

Why should people who read this that don’t know you come and see you here at Tomorrowland? “I don’t like to put myself in a box, because then you’re restricting yourself. This way, I’m able to really engage with my audience. My sets, where I mix new tracks and dance classics, reflect my origins. In the ‘90s, the Belgian club scene was legendary. Bonzai Records, with DJs like Yves Deruyter and M.I.K.E. Push, had its own unique electronic sound. Being a Belgian artist, I am very proud of that and I like to include a touch of that Bonzai sound in my sets.”
