Obituary

Minister Albert Olin, Jr., affectionately called “Poppa” was born on Tuesday, February

2, 1933 in Holly Hill, South Carolina to the late Mary Jefferson & Albert Olin, Sr. Early Saturday morning, June 8th, the Ole Ship of Zion dropped anchor by the bedside of our Poppa. Without so much as a wave of his hand, he set sail to that other shore. All pain, all sickness, all discomfort is finally over!

Albert was educated in the local school system of South Carolina. Upon graduation,

he enlisted in the US Army and served from 1952-1954 and was Honorably Discharged. He was a delegate and business agent for Teamsters Local Union 522. His mother introduced him to Russell Institutional CME Church in the Bronx as a young adult. He remained a committed member until his health began to fail. Albert served the Lord and his church with gladness in every way he could as a Lay Minister, Chairman of the Steward Board, Superintendent of Sunday School and Assistant to the Pastor whenever called upon. Following the commission to “take the Lord with you”, Minister Olin also served as Chaplain for the American Legion Riverdale Memorial Post 1525.

He always was in good spirits, sociable and would engage anyone in conversation.

His pastime was watching Westerns. On occasion, he would ask if anybody bothered you in a playful way and say that if they did, he would “break their legs”, that was the running joke with Poppa. Anyone could tell you that he was Mr. Personality and the life of the party. We were blessed to celebrate his 86 birthday last February with a small group of family and friends at home. A video of Poppa’s birthday speech after blowing out the candles will be shared with everyone later today.

Albert Olin, Jr. married the former Marian Daniel in October 1993. He doted on his

wife, children, grand-children and great grand-children.

Left to cherish his sweet memories and legacy of love is his devoted wife - Marian,

daughter-Selena and son – Issiac, also children from a previous marriage - his sister - Sandra (Mingo), Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.

Poem

God saw you were getting weary So he did what he thought was best. He came and stood beside you, And whispoered “Come and rest“. You bid no one a last farwell Not even a goodbye You were gone befor we knew it and only God knows why. A precious one from us has gone A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. And after a lonely heartache And many silelnt tears But always a beautiful memory, Of one we loved so dear.
