ANNUAL REPORT 2021 REPORT FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Shipping & Offshore Network was established in 1981 as Bulkforum and changed its name in 2013.
In 2018 we launched the Maritime Oslofjord Alliance, an alliance with Oslo Shipowners’ Association and Ocean Industry Forum Oslofjord. The Alliance has its own website www.maritimeoslofjord.no. With our association being the international one of the three, we are also looking to attract more members from abroad, particularly from the Nordic countries. Our members are from a variety of countries, altogether the Alliance comprises some 150+ companies. Through a membership in Shipping & Offshore Network with its 50+ members, foreign companies gain access to an entire cluster of maritime and ocean based companies in Norway and abroad.
While 2019 was our most active year for more than a decade, 2020 and 2021 turned out to be different than any year before, due to the covid-19 pandemic. As we held our Annual General Meeting on 11 February, 2020, with a record number of attendees, little did we know about how the weeks, months and indeed years ahead would turn out. The 2021 AGM was held on Zoom on 23 February.
In 2021 we were supposed to celebrate our 40th anniversary. This will rather be done in 2022. The Annual Summit, which was planned for April 2020, with the timely title “The way forward: Strategies for maximising your options” was first pushed to September 2020, then postponed to April 2021, but that proved not to be possible, so we now aim for 7 and 8 April, during the Nor-Shipping week.
In 2021 we still managed to organise several digital events, we had Market Update Meetings in Bergen and Oslo, and our Shipping Academy conducted two 1-day courses; one about China and our classic Basic Shipping and Maritime Law. We also co-organised a hybrid Klaipėda Manifesto event in September, an event which was also a manifestation of our strong relationship with Klaipėda, following the Go LNG project collaboration. In addition, the Alliance has initiated the Project Retrofit, involving all three chairmen, the general manager, a consultant and a secretary. In this project we look at what can be achieved with regards to decarbonisation of the existing vessel fleet in a 3-5 years perspective (tank, bulk, container).
All in all, the Board is pleased to sum up a year that turned out to be quite active after all. Our turnover was NOK 1,001,778 with a profit of 33,610. Oslo, 10 February, 2022

THE MEMBERS MEETINGS FEBRUARY: Our Annual General Meeting was held on Zoom on Tuesday 23 February. Present were altogether 33 attendees: 22 delegates representing 18 members, in addition to our auditor, guests, and the general manager. The meeting went according to plan and the entire board was re-elected:

APRIL: Together with the Lithuanian Maritime Cluster, Klaipėda Science and Technology Park, and the Ministry of Energy in Lithuania, we co-organised a webinar called “Cool Gas as an Energy Source for Shipping” on 8 April.
Norwegian speakers were Christos Chryssakis from DNV, Egil Rensvik from Energy Network Norway, and Karen Sund, from Biogass Oslofjord and Sund Energy.
There were some 120 attendees, around one third of these were from Norway.
CORT ADELER SHIPPING TALKS II: Together with Eksportkreditt Norge AS the Maritime Oslofjord Alliance organised our second Cort Adeler Shipping Talks on 21 April, focusing on “Post Covid – the Future for the Maritime Industry”. Our focal point was a report from Menon Economics called “Strategies for Green Maritime Export”, presented by Erik W. Jakobsen. Among our speakers and panelists were Hege Økland from Maritime Cleantech, Kenneth Walland from Edda Wind, Engebret
Dahm from Klaveness Combination Carriers, Øystein Matre from Westcon Yards, Martin Wien Fjell from Kongsberg Maritime, Bern Blikstad from DNB, and Otto Søberg, CEO, Eksportkreditt Norge. Our general manager was the moderator for the hybrid event, with some speakers in the studio and some online.
MAY: With more or less the same partners as top above, we co-organised a webinar called Digital Transformation on 20 May. The speaker representing a Norwegian company was Nakul Malhotra, VP Open Innovations, from Wilhelmsen Ships Service in Singapore, on “Embracing a Digital Culture”.

SEPTEMBER: Klaipėda Manifesto: Nordic Blue Economy Opportunities was a 2-day conference in Klaipėda. Lithuania, on 23–24 September, coorganised between Klaipėda ID, Klaipėda Science and Technology Park, our members DNV and Klaipėda Free Economic Zone, law firm Ellex Valiunas, the Norwegian Embassy, NorwegianLithuanian Chamber of Commerce in Vilnius and the Lithuanian-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Oslo, and Shipping & Offshore Network. Our embassy was co-financing the conference, and our general manager was co-moderator. There were several Lithuanian ministers and vice-ministers speaking at the conference, both in person and online, as well as the Norwegian Ambassador, H.E. Ole T. Horpestad, and the current State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, Mr Lars Andreas Lunde. One advisor to the President attended a panel debate, Mr Jaroslav Neverovic. Klaipėda Manifesto was divided into the following five parts: I.

Half of the speakers were from Norway; two were there in person: Professor Alex Alcocer from OsloMet (member of OIFO) and CEO and co-founder Kristin Omholt-Jensen from our member Maritime Optima (also member of OIFO).

The others speakers were Owe Hagesæther, CEO, GCE Ocean Technology in Bergen; Susanne Gløersen, Deputy Head of Sustainable Banking, SEB Norway; Maren Hjorth Bauer, CoFounder and CEO, Fynd Ventures AS; Maria Brandsøy, Business Opportunity Manager for Ocean Hyway Cluster; Jørgen Brandt Theodorsen, Director for offshore wind in Norwegian Energy Partners; and Christen A. Mordal, Special Advisor, Norwegian Seafood Council.
According to the all the organisers, including us, the conference was very successful and may be organised again.

NOVEMBER: Our annual Market Update Meetings were again held both in Bergen and Oslo, on 16 and 17 November, respectively.
As always, professor Øystein Thøgersen from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) gave a presentation on the current global macroeconomic picture, this year entitled “Global prospects when policies and business activities adapt to the new normal”. In addition we had Shipping Focus with Shipping Markets Update with Jakub Walenkiewicz, Principal Market Analyst, DNV (Oslo only), Dry Bulk, Tanker and Container Outlook with Nicolai Hansteen, Chief Shipping Analyst, Lorentzen & Stemoco, and Offshore Shipping Prospects with Mari Koseki and Irene Fosse, Grieg Shipbrokers. Our Sustainability Focus this year was a presentation by Knut Ola Skotvedt, SVP Ocean Industries, DNB, on “EU Taxonomy and consequences for ship finance”.

THE SHIPPING ACADEMY: We had our one 1-day course in Basic Shipping and Maritime Law, on Tuesday 30 November, this time with as many as 18 participants from our members BNP Paribas, DNB (5), Maritime Optima (6), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), Vikand Solutions LLC, and Wagle Chartering, in addition to Alliance members Arne Blystad AS and Ness, Risan & Partners AS. Back on stage as lecturer was Cathrine Bjune from BI, who did a great job and got very good feedback.
We also managed to have our 1-day course on China – Tian Xia, All Under Heaven, with professor Dr Josef Mondl from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, in person. This took place on 21 October with 9 participants from our members DNV, Eksfin (2), Ulstein International, and Western Bulk. In addition Alliance members DS Theologos AS, Höegh LNG AS, and Thor Dahl Shipping AS (2) participated.
