Cet ouvrage est un double hommage, premièrement au mythique album du groupe New-yorkais Wu-Tang Clan Enter the Wu-Tang (36th chamber) mais aussi à tous les artistes dont les chansons ont été samplés pour l’élaboration de ce dernier.

Avant l’information, c’est un expérience qui est proposé. Prendre le temps d’écouter chacun des morceaux initiaux indépendamment de la reformulation par le producteur RZA. Une pochette de disque a été crées pour chaque morceau de l’album. leurs formes graphiques ont été déterminées à partir de leurs textes, leurs rythmes et les messages qu’ils véhiculent.

En musique, un échantillon (ou sample), est un extrait sonore récupéré au sein d’un enregistrement plus long (musique, cinéma, etc.) et sorti de son contexte afin d’être utilisé musicalement. L’extrait est typiquement une note, une voix, un bruitage, ou un motif musical destiné à devenir une boucle. Plus généralement un échantillon désigne un enregistrement sonore relativement court utilisé avec un échantillonneur.

Premier album studio du Wu-Tang Clan, Enter the WuTang (36 Chambers) est sorti le 9 novembre 1993, sur le label Loud Records et distribué via RCA Records.

Le titre de l’album étant une référence direct au film de kung-fu de 1978, La 36ème chambre de Shaolin, RZA, producteur du crew, parsème l’album de samples provenant de films de kung-fu. Il utilise également de nombreux samples de soul ainsi que des beats pénétrants et lourds. Ce savant mélange est le secret de l’ambiance inquiétante de l’album, encore aujourd’hui caractéristique du style new yorkais des années 1990.

Tous les titres sont produits par RZA, à l’exception de Da Mystery of Chessboxin, co-produit par Ol’ Dirty Bastard, et Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit, coproduit par Method Man.
