WELCOME TO THE TOM COUGHLIN JAY FUND WINE TASTING GALA

PRESENTED BY:

Welcome to The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation’s 20th Wine Tasting Gala It is wonderful to be here tonight at EverBank Stadium, continuing the work we started 28 years ago. Together, we ’ ve been able to support over 5,600 patients and families tackling childhood cancer, and cannot thank you enough. Your generosity has allowed us to BE THERE for moms and dads, siblings, and grandparents so they can BE THERE for their child.

Thank you!

Throughout 2024, we will be sharing stories of some of our Jay Fund families and the hardships they face as they care for their critically ill child We hope reading and listening to these stories will give you a sense of what it’s like to “Walk In Their Shoes,” and that you will be inspired by their resilience and determination.

Many thanks to everyone who has attended and contributed to the success of this annual event over the last 20 years, and a special thanks for the invaluable contributions of Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Bold Events and the entire community that rallies behind our mission

Together, we can and will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families tackling childhood cancer.

With gratitude,

WELCOME TO THE TOM COUGHLIN JAY FUND WINE TASTING GALA PRESENTED

BY:

Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits is proud and honored to continue our support of the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund & Wine Tasting Gala

This partnership has spanned 20 remarkable years and generated over $2 million for childhood cancer patients and their families. We could not have accomplished such success without the support of our restaurateurs, wine and spirit supplier partners, and local community vendors and sponsors. Reflecting on 20 years ago when Barry Zeidwig and Tom Coughlin, along with the Jay Fund team first brought this gala to life, we had 300 people in attendance and raised $50,000 dollars. Fast forward to 2024 and attendance expectations are close to 1,000 attendees and estimated proceeds for the Jay Fund are over $300,000 dollars The proceeds generated from this gala have allowed the Jay Fund to be able to develop even more crucial programming inclusive of sibling and caregiver support programs

We’d like to express our sincere appreciat to Jacksonville and the surrounding a patrons that have made all this possib Without you, the Jay Fund would not be a to keep up with the rising costs that associated with caring for those in need I because of the growing commun excitement and its passion for giving t after 20 years, we have moved the W Tasting Gala to the home of the Jacksonv Jaguars, EverBank Stadium, where it c reside and prosper for many years to come

We hope you enjoy your evening of great food, wine and spirits, and silent auction opportunities.

Again, a sincere thank you to all that have made this possible and such a huge success! HAVE FUN!

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation is named for Jay McGillis, who was diagnosed with leukemia while playing football under Coach Coughlin at Boston College Coach admired the red-headed strong side safety for his incredible work ethic and intense play

In the eight months between Jay’s diagnosis and the day he lost his battle with cancer, the Coughlin family saw firsthand the physical, emotional and financial strains the illness caused Jay’s family. Coach Coughlin vowed that if he ever had the chance, he would create a way to help families with children battling cancer.

Coach Coughlin kept his vow and started this foundation to BE THERE for these patients and families in Jay’s honor Since 1996, the Jay Fund has provided $20 million to over 5,600 families in Northeast Florida, Southern Georgia and the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area.

ANYHS

A patient family story.

Black New Balance sneakers, those were the shoes I was wearing the day my two-year-old daughter Kyla was diagnosed with leukemia on June 10, 2022. Looking at those shoes, I am reminded that it has been a journey defined by a single, all-encompassing emotion: Fear. It has become my relentless companion, a shadow that looms over each step, each decision, each moment of this marathon with no apparent finish line.

Everything happened so quickly after Kyla’s diagnosis, faster than my New Balances could keep up. There was no time to process or train for what lay around the curve in this fork in the road. It was on a Friday we were told she had cancer, and by Monday doctors had started chemotherapy.

There were no real choices regarding which direction we would proceed. From the moment doctors said those heart stopping words: “Your child has cancer, ” my family’s life transformed into a series of hospital visits, chemotherapy sessions, and the heart-wrenching cries of a two-year-old facing needles and medical procedures. Me and my New Balances have yet to have a moment to truly slow down and catch our breath.

But that hasn’t been the most difficult part of this never-ending course. In April 2023, my husband Roger and I received news that after 10 months of treatment, Kyla's cancer returned in her spinal fluid. This brought a new wave of fear, intensifying the anxiety that preceded every medical appointment. Fear even crept into our monthly bills, adding strain and another layer of burden on our financially and emotionally fatigued family.

04

A patient family story.

In our quest for a solution, we explored options with Kyla's care team at Nemours Children’s Health. We discovered hope in the form of CAR T-cell therapy, available through a clinical trial at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. This innovative treatment became a lifeline and path forward; however, it was quickly riddled with hurdles in the form of travel and living expenses Flights to Philadelphia, accommodations, and day-to-day necessities strained our resources. Sadly, often-overlooked costs associated with childhood cancer the expenses of daily life--persist even in the face of a life-altering illness.

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund became our lifeline. It has helped us cover our mortgage and auto repairs and provided holiday meals for our family. As we continue to travel to Philadelphia for follow-up visits, the Jay Fund gives us hope as well as the opportunity to have date nights and outings where we can bond with other parents of childhood cancer patients

As much as I try to stay positive, my fear has not faded, but my New Balances still have plenty of wear in them. Despite the persistent fear that lingers when Kyla mentions an ache or pain, or during each medical appointment, the knowledge that we are not alone buoys our spirits. With my husband, children, Kyla's dedicated care team, and the Jay Fund by our side, the path ahead becomes more bearable.

No one can walk in another person ’ s shoes. We each have our own race to run, yet it is in the race itself we ’ ve found community with others willing to run alongside us. Through this support, we find the strength to keep putting one foot in front of the other, knowing that the burden of the race is shared, and hope propels us forward.

“TWO PUPS” PLATTER

ARTIST: CAMBREE

AGE: 11

Cambree is an 11-year-old girl with a passion for art and her two dogs, Floyd and KoKo. Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia one year ago, Cambree is in the midst of chemotherapy treatment and misses spending time with her friends and fifth grade classmates. Inspired by the devotion and companionship of Floyd and Koko, as well as her favorite character Snoopy, Cambree painted this beautiful platter of two playful pups Cambree is supported by her loving parents and three older siblings, and she dreams of using her creative talents to become a professional photographer.

“MY FAVORITE FOOD” PLATTER

ARTIST: DARRIONTAE

AGE: 10

The effects of chemotherapy treatment make it difficult to keep childhood cancer patients nourished. Ten-year-old Darriontae is no exception, as the side effects he endures limits his enjoyment of his favorite foods. Darriontae colorfully depicts these mouth-watering items in his meticulously drawn platter with the hope that it will be used to display your favorite meals and snacks. Darriontae was diagnosed with osteosarcoma last spring and unfortunately his mobility has been significantly impaired While he misses running and swimming, Darriontae enjoys collecting and playing with remotecontrolled cars Inspired by the compassionate care he has received, Darriontae hopes to become a wound-care nurse in the future.
