A house is always more than just a house. It’s where people raise their kids, where they eat, where they gather to socialize with friends and neighbors, and where they live so much of life. Peace of mind for the state of a home is always desired, but so often the required repairs are unable to be made, and that little extra piece of peace gets lost. Chelsea and Peter Kopelman were able to get some of that peace with Hometown Window. From the purchase of their home in Carmel seven years ago, the Kopelmans knew the 28 original wood windows would eventually have to be replaced. This was easier said than done. In addition to affordability, the Kopelmans took into account that the back of their house faces a golf course and is very visible. Westfield Washington Schools will once again celebrate the start of the school year with the fourth annual “Rock the Block,” an official kickoff to 2025-26 at Westfield High School. On Aug. 1, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Westfield will gear up for another year of growth, connection and excellence. It’s a free, family-friendly event to bring students, families, staff, local businesses and community organizations together for an evening of games, activities and engagement. “Rock the Block is our way of bringing together the entire Westfield community as we prepare for another year of excellence,” said Ashley Knott, director of communications and engagement for Westfield Washington Schools. “It’s more

Dr. Lindsay Moore brings more than a decade of experience in medicine to FreedomDoc, a concierge-style practice. “What we offer is direct primary care,” says Dr. Lindsay Moore. “It’s a monthly membership-based model, kind of like a gym membership but for your doctor. You pay the same fee for membership whether you don’t need me at all that month or you need me five times.” Dr. Moore completed residency at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2011 and has been serving patients in the Indianapolis region ever since. “I liked FreedomDoc because they were able to offer me the support services, the behind-the-scenes administrative help,” Dr. Moore says. “To let me focus on just taking care of the patients like I’ve always wanted to.” As a board-certified internal medicine and pediatrics physician, Dr. Moore worked a traditional systems-based job in primary care for nearly a decade. “I stopped doing that after I realized that I just couldn’t spend the time I wanted to with patients,” Dr. Moore says. “In a system where I have two to 3,000 patients, I can’t see them enough and spend time 12 | July 2025 | TownePost.com

While many high school seniors spend their final year focused solely on academics and social events, 18-year-old Reese Sargent chose to take a different path — one that gave her a head start on her future in business. A recent graduate of Westfield High School, Reese interned with the Westfield Chamber of Commerce from August through May, an experience she credits with shaping her interest in marketing and helping her build confidence in professional settings. “I heard the chamber was a place where all the businesses in Westfield came together,” Sargent said. “That interested me, just seeing how they connected and supported each other.” Reese’s internship gave her a front-row seat to the behind-the-scenes efforts that keep Westfield’s business community thriving. She took part in a wide range of tasks, including helping with signage, assembling membership packets, assisting with event setup and attending ribbon-cutting ceremonies. “I was kind of just there to help with anything they needed,” she said. “It was really great exposure to all the different aspects of business, including finance, marketing and even executive-level work with Chamber 16 | July 2025 | TownePost.com

The opportunity to meet and network with community leaders. “I went to every ribbon-cutting I could,” Sargent said. “That’s where I got to talk to chamber board members, local business owners, even the mayor. It was amazing to be in those rooms.” Sargent plans to continue building on that momentum when she heads to Indiana University this fall. She’ll study at the renowned Kelley School of Business with a focus on marketing, although she said she’s still open to exploring different career paths. “I chose marketing because I enjoyed the work I did at the chamber, but I’m definitely still figuring things out,” she said. “I’m just excited to learn more and make more connections.” In addition to her internship, Sargent dedicated herself to a wide range of

extracurriculars during high school. She played on the varsity soccer team, participated in the DECA business club, was a member of the National Honor Society and volunteered at Grace Church’s food pantry and thrift store. She also played competitive club soccer outside of school, which involved frequent travel. Despite her packed schedule, she said the chamber internship was one of the most impactful parts of her senior year.

“It’s just such a great opportunity,” Sargent said. “It made me more confident and helped me see what’s possible.” With her passion for community and a strong foundation in real-world experience, Sargent is well on her way to making a lasting impact wherever her next endeavor takes her.

“I absolutely loved it,” Sargent said. “Haley Wilson, Drew Lacey and Courtney Albright were amazing. I would definitely recommend it to other students. It’s a great way to grow, especially if you’re interested in business or want to get experience working with professionals.” She’s already encouraging her younger sister, Brynn, who will be a junior at Westfield High School this fall, to consider applying.

Almost Home Kennel was originally built in 1963 as the Dachshund Society of Indianapolis but since then has served as a kennel for all dogs and cats, owned by Rick and Darlene Wyatt for the past 31 years. “My husband was a Westfield police officer and had always wanted to have a kennel. He was friends with the previous owner, and when they decided to sell, they asked him if he wanted it,” Wyatt said. It’s one of Westfield’s best-kept secrets — if you didn’t know it was there, you might miss it. Tucked back into a wooded area off U.S. 31 and 191st Street, it’s the perfect haven for dogs and cats on vacation. They don’t have employees. It’s just Rick and Darlene caring for your pet — something many appreciate. “People often tell us that they like that we live here, we have indoor and outdoor runs, and there’s a personal touch, so your dog is not just a number,” Wyatt said. Optional services include play and exercise time, bathing, nail trims, daycare and a day of acquaintance so the dog and the owner can get to know the Wyatts.

Julie Case knew she wanted to be a dog trainer as early as age 4. “My mom and dad bred and trained dogs and competed with them. I grew up watching my parents train dogs, so unavoidably, I loved doing that too,” Case said. By age 14, she was training and competing with dogs for others. Today, she owns Ultimate Canine Training in Westfield.

The team also works with local shelters to rehabilitate and rehome rescue dogs. “We take two to three dogs at a time from shelters, administer a temperament test and prepare them for adoption,” Case said. One such dog is now headed to South Carolina after being adopted. “We found her at a local shelter, trained her up, and she’s already officially adopted,” Case said. She launched the business in 2012 and opened a newly built, 15,000-square-foot facility last summer at 17901 Eagletown Road. That’s how this facility was born.” Originally from Russia, Case moved to the United States in 2001 and has long trained dogs from around the world. “I can tell dogs apart by voice,” she said. “We have dogs from Holland and the Czech Republic for police training. We also have dogs from France, Romania, Colombia, Poland and Belgium.” Case credits word of mouth as key to the company’s international reputation. “We have amazing customers that we are forever thankful to for allowing us to do what we love so much and allowing us to follow our passion,” she said. Her team uses a customized approach to training, which she says makes it possible to train nearly any dog. “We can train any breed, any age, any behavior problem,” she said. “We can train just about any four-legged canine creature that resembles a dog.” Ultimate Canine also offers fully trained, adoptable dogs. “We have a team of amazing breeders that produce amazing dogs,” Case said. “The puppies are raised to a very high standard and are highly socialized.” These dogs are ideal for families wanting a safe, childfriendly pet without the effort of training from scratch.

These grants support educators in projects and programs that promote wellness and mental health, literacy, reading and foreign language, math, science and social studies,

innovation and the arts. Applications are currently available now for teachers, counselors, and administrators for the 2025-2026 school year. For the 2025 Westfield High School’s graduating class, the Westfield Education Foundation was able to award 41 unique scholarships and awards, distributing $107,400 in scholarships to 69 students.

An exciting update has begun for one of Westfield’s most cherished bakeries. Pat-a-Cakes, a longtime local favorite, has officially reopened under new ownership and a fresh identity. Now known as Uptown Bakery, the establishment is being reimagined by new owner Jonathon Smith. The rebranding process started in November of last year and was unveiled this May with updated décor and a new sign. Uptown Bakery may sound familiar — and for good reason. Smith is also behind the popular Uptown Café, which has several locations throughout the greater Indianapolis area, including Noblesville, Carmel and

Fishers. Smith has been working in the industry for more than 25 years. “I’ve been doing this my whole life. When I was 16 I wanted a car, so Mom and Dad told me to get a job. My best friend’s uncle had a restaurant, and that’s where I started,” he said. The Uptown brand has a rich history dating back to 1932, when the first café opened in Noblesville. In 2013, Smith had the opportunity to co-own the Noblesville Uptown Café, and the brand continued to grow, opening locations in Indianapolis, Carmel and Fishers. He has co-owned the restaurants with a group of friends he has known since his years at Hamilton Southeastern High School and wants to continue giving back to them as they have done for him over the years. “With this bakery, it’s the last piece of the foundation with the core group of employees, managers and coowners that we all grew up together, and what better

place to do that than Hamilton County?” he said. Smith dedicated several months to preparing for the bakery’s reopening to ensure longtime customers still get the treats they love. “From November until the end of May, essentially it was learning the recipes, learning the clientele and what they like. That way we can keep up those standards and add the products we have at the cafés as well,” he said.

Looking ahead, his vision is to expand the bakery’s offerings beyond cakes and cookies. “Instead of just a dessert restaurant with cookies, cakes and cupcakes, now it’s kind of what I consider more of a full-fledged bakery where we can do multiple things like bread, jams, English muffins and pastries.” Uptown Bakery also introduced a monthly cookie subscription program called Cookie Club. Each month, subscribers receive a box of freshly baked cookies delivered straight from the bakery. You can buy this subscription for three, six or even 12 months for a baker’s dozen of gourmet cookies. From reimagining the menu to launching creative offerings like the Cookie Club, Smith is building more than a bakery — he’s reinforcing a legacy grounded in community, friendship and quality.
