JONES’ BARBER SHOP REOPENS WITH REFRESHED INTERIOR

During its first year of operation, Jones’ Barber Shop, located across from Greenwood Park Mall, became known for its friendly atmosphere and excellent customer service. The shop staff was gearing up to celebrate their one-year anniversary when the coronavirus crisis began. Owner Chad Jones took advantage of the mandatory business shutdown to refurbish the shop and make it even more inviting and welcoming.

In 2010 Jones, who grew up in Greenwood and attended Center Grove High School, began his barbering career when he attended Kenny’s Academy of Barbering. Later he got his cosmetology license from Empire Beauty School, and he is presently taking courses at A+ Barber School, which keeps him updated on current styles. However, the seeds of his occupation were sown early on.

“As a kid I always went to a barber shop,” Jones says. “My barber constantly tried to talk me into going to barber school. He said I had the knack for chatting and joking with people. After barber school I worked at a barber shop in Greenwood, then Avon, and I helped open a shop in Center Grove before owning my own place. I enjoyed my time with who I worked for and I learned a lot.” where everyone feels welcome.

“I learned that it’s one thing to be a great hair cutter, but it’s another to be a great barber,” he says.

“It’s a place where guys can be guys, but a mom showing up with her eight-year-old son will feel comfortable. We have six barbers including me, and one is a female with her cosmetology license.”

Since the shop reopened with a refreshed decor, customers can once again enjoy an experience that surpasses an ordinary barber visit. Jones enlisted the help of friends who were experienced in the building renovation business and had an understanding of what was needed to brighten the atmosphere up. The interior now features a brighter paint scheme along with new flooring that enhances the barber shop furniture. It all works together to bring a fresh and energetic vibe to the space.

Jones’ Barber Shop offers a range of services. For $10 customers can get a Line Up, which is a trim of the outline of a previous haircut that extends the time between cuts. Young men’s haircuts run $18, and men’s haircuts range from a $12 buzz cut up to $23.

“We are a full-service shop,” Jones says. “We give straight-cut razor shaves, bald fades and specialty cuts. We do all kinds of designs that the kids want. And you’ll get an amazing beard

trim every time. Military personnel and first responders are always given discounts. Cuts for seniors are only $13 Monday through Friday until 2 p.m. After that, the young crowd starts coming in and we change the music and liven it up.”

Jones maintains a budget for giving back to the community. The shop contributes

to local charities and causes as they arise. The business sponsors groups and teams such as the Center Grove wrestling team. Team members have received gift bags and certificates for haircuts from the shop.

“We have been busy since we came back,” Jones says. “We have great support from a lot of great families. We wouldn’t be

successful without our wonderful staff and the people of Greenwood.”
