WELCOME TO FISHERS Greetings Fishers residents, I’ve had the pleasure of serving this community for more than fifteen years, beginning as a finance intern, to town manager, and now Fishers’ first mayor upon becoming a city in 2015. This annual relocation guide always reminds me of how dynamic our community is. Each year, it seems there are more and more restaurants, boutiques, events, and experiences that help make our city a hometown for so many.

As I write this, we’re on the verge of warmer weather when residents and visitors are out

and about. I enjoy the chance to connect with many of you and learn about what you enjoy most about our city. In the pages of this new resident guide, I hope you find a few new adventures or regular places to add to your list. And if you’re a longtime resident, check out the new experiences popping up in our community.

We’ve made it through another Indiana winter, which means…it’s time to spring clean! It’s often not just our cars that are dirty. Chances are, your floors need some TLC. But don’t call the first carpet cleaner you find, as the results vary greatly. It’s not unusual for consumers to have a mediocre experience following a carpet cleaning because most companies use some type

of hot water extraction, coupled with a cleaning agent or shampoo that doesn’t get pulled up all the way, leaving the carpet feeling crunchy or sticky. Worse yet, that soap or shampoo becomes a dirt-attracting agent so spots appear over and over again.

Zerorez, a green carpet-cleaning company, offers something different.

“The founders of Zerorez owned a number of commercial properties, and one of their biggest costs was cleaning and replacing carpet,” says Owner Ray Kennedy. “They wanted to solve this problem so they came up with the Zerorez system.”

As the name suggests, zero residue is left behind. They use a high-grade, hot water extraction process, but instead of soaps or shampoos, they use high-alkaline water that becomes the cleaning solution. Not only is the patented process effective, but it’s also safe for kids and pets.

“In today’s energy-efficient homes, houses don’t breathe as much, so if you’ve got chemicals that come from the cleaning, they’re staying in the house and getting into your air,” Kennedy says. “With Zerorez you don’t have any of that.”

The other great factor is that because they don’t apply chemicals or detergents, not as much water is used in the cleaning process versus other methods. This translates to carpets drying considerably faster.

“People are accustomed to having to stay off their floors for 24 hours,” Kennedy says.

“With us, it’s four to six hours.”

Clients also appreciate the highly trained and “zertified” technicians at Zerorez, who care greatly about customer satisfaction.

When asked, “Would you recommend us to your family and friends?” 80 to 90% of customers say yes, compared to the average home service company, who scores between 30 and 40%. WellBridge Surgical is disrupting the healthcare model for surgery in Indiana.

The country’s second-ever cash-pay surgery center offers Hoosiers fixed and transparent pricing for surgery.

Local business owner Jeff Williams noticed the cost of health care was rising tremendously for his small business.

Williams didn’t want to increase his deductible for his employees, nor did he want to increase his rates by a high margin. Instead, Williams partnered with longtime friends Dr. Ron Piniecki and Dr. Eric Inman, both anesthesiologists, to revolutionize the way patients pay for their surgical care.

The fixed payment method means patients know their all-in total cost for surgery prior to the procedure and don’t receive a surprise bill in the mail. Pricing includes the facility charge, surgeon fee and anesthesiologist fee. Patients pay a one-time consultation fee of $150 that is credited to the cost of the surgical procedure.

CONNECT

Not only is the pricing up-front and transparent, but patients also pay, on average, 30% to 60% less than they would at other facilities in Indianapolis. Williams says WellBridge can offer their patients 2022 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 23

those savings by not adding hidden facility fees. For instance, the WellBridge cost for ear tubes is $2,380, while the Indianapolis average is $6,804.

WellBridge Surgical offers general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, otolaryngology, urology, podiatry, and gastroenterology procedures. Patients contact WellBridge and are paired with a surgeon based on their specific surgical needs. The prices of surgical procedures are listed on the WellBridge Surgical website. The patient will know their total cost immediately.

“Dr. Piniecki and Dr. Inman have worked at some of the biggest hospital systems, so they know most of the surgeons in Indianapolis,” Williams says. “We’ve partnered with some of the best surgeons in the city.”

“Our first surgical patient was a smallbusiness owner,” Williams says. “He and his wife were so thankful to find us. They have insurance but they never knew what they would pay for care. It made us feel like we were proving our theory right.”

Hoosiers pay the fourth-highest surgical costs nationwide according to a 2020 RAND Corporation study. WellBridge aims to make a difference with the uninsured, individuals with high-deductible insurance plans, and those with self-funded plans.

Achieving a 10-year anniversary is a huge accomplishment for anyone who owns their own business. Fit Chicks has thrived while creating a community of healthy, happy and strong women. Owner Roz Harris knows what it’s like to face adversity and achieve success through hard work and perseverance.

The supportive atmosphere at the personal training studio is a direct reflection of that spirit as clients throughout the years have witnessed each other’s struggles and challenges while offering encouragement.

Harris was reeling from the aftereffects of the economic downturn after the housing bubble burst, and was living with an aunt in California when she had the opportunity to buy a fitness center in Fishers. After purchasing it, she realized the business was in a dire situation.

It was failing, poorly managed and not what it had represented itself to be. She rebranded the business to Fit Chicks and a two-year legal battle ensued. In the end she triumphed and won the battle to continue on with all the

In the meantime, Harris crafted a unique approach to fitness, nutrition and well-being for women. Her goal was to enable them to gain control back over their life without the hassles and embarrassment from regular gyms.

As a result, hundreds of women have met with dedicated trainers who have developed healthy eating plans and tailor-made, individualized workout programs. Along the way, lifelong relationships have formed.

“Fit Chicks has been such a blessing to me,” Harris says. “We want to celebrate our 10-year anniversary all year long. There is a reason why these ladies keep on coming back. Six women have been here since the very beginning and two have become friends. Rita Zink, now 76, had never been to a gym before. Michele Smith, now 44, had just received the diagnosis that her young child had learning disabilities.”

Both ladies represent the diverse clientele at Fit Chicks. The overall aim is to help women of all ages and backgrounds feel healthy, strong, confident and in control. It’s a place where women feel comfortable versus feeling demoralized going into a big chain gym. Plus, help in getting a diet right is offered free.

Putting names with faces and checking up on clients if they miss sessions are personal touches clients love.

“If I was going to sum up how I’ve grown personally during the 10 years I’ve been going to Fit Chicks, I would have to say, ‘Walking in new shoes,’” Smith says. “When I first came in I was wearing these crazy old shoes.

If I was going to work out at a gym, I had to get new ones. As I got on my new shoes, I 2022 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 37

had a lifestyle change. Food started to look differently to me. Instead of fad diets, I had the opportunity to make choices.”

“I’m most proud of my commitment to my health,” Smith continues. “My daughter as 3 when I started. It was the only time I had for myself. My hubby has always been so supportive of my membership. Thank you, Roz and trainers, for your inspiration. I’ve met some wonderful people with one thing in common over the years - our health and wellbeing. It truly does unite us. When you have a support system and accountability, you can be strong, healthy and so much happier.”

Ten years ago, at the age 66, Zink had never participated in a fitness program before she walked in the doors of Fit Chicks. She quickly began to flourish, and with her good attitude and smile, convinced those around her that age was just a number. Today, her plank is known to be one of the best in the studio.

She appreciates how the personal trainers let members proceed at their own pace.

“I would say that, I’ve grown stronger,” she says. “Even though I’m 76 I don’t feel like it. I’m so much healthier and better off than friends my age. My time at Fit Chicks has been a journey for me and I’ve loved every minute.

The women coming in here put a smile on my face and I look forward to seeing them. The team recognizes if we are having a bad day and everything! After years of working out with Michele, we know a lot about each other and she has become like a second daughter to me.”

In 2015, Kayla Stauffer and Liz Curtis formed Dovetail Group after seeing the need in the marketplace for a comprehensive design solution that blended both interior remodeling, as well as furnishings, decor and overall styling of a home. The team has diverse capabilities when it comes to project scope in that they can take on residential remodels, new build construction and fullscale commercial projects.

Liz and Kayla met and worked together at a home remodeling firm that focused primarily on kitchens and baths. Early in their careers, both noticed the industry was dominated by remodeling companies that put construction before design and style.

Liz, whose background is in finish and fixtures selections and custom home furnishings and décor, started her own firm, while Kayla, whose background is in interior design, space planning and construction management, opened her own firm.

“My clients needed help with furniture and décor, and her clients needed help with structural modifications, so we ‘dovetailed’ our companies together. That’s how we came up with the name Dovetail Group,” Kayla explains.

Together, Liz and Kayla had a unique idea to disrupt the home remodeling industry in a few very important ways. First, Liz and Kayla wanted to combine forces and form a woman-owned business to appeal to their female customers. They focus on the design

first, finalize all the details and then turn projects over to their trusted independent contractors to perform the construction.

Budgeting is of the utmost importance which is why they offer itemized pricing of all of the materials and furnishings that are involved in a design project rather than providing a lump sum price with no detail.

These changes allow Dovetail Group to manage the process while adhering to budgets and advocating for their clients throughout the process.
