new home of the Indy Fuel minor league hockey team.

Fishers has a new parks and recreation department director with a familiar name. Marissa Deckert has been the assistant parks department director and will now assume the top post. Deckert has plenty of work ahead, including the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater summer concert series, the opening of the new Geist Waterfront Park, and the annual Spark!Fishers festival.

The Recovery Cafe has opened its doors in the Eller House building on 116th Street, just west of Allisonville Road. The nonprofit offers help for anyone recovering from most anything. The organization offers referrals for those needing more help.

With the new Fishers event center expected to be completed in December of 2024, the city has hired a firm with worldwide experience to book activities in the structure. ASM Global already handles venues such as L.A. Live in Los Angeles, Darling Harbour in Sydney, OVO Arena Wembley in London, AO Arena in Manchester, and the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale, Arizona. The event center will also be the

The Fishers City Council gave first reading passage to a new ordinance allowing new homeowners associations (HOAs) to change their covenants with a simple majority vote of property owners. Most HOAs in Fishers require a 75% vote of homeowners to enact a covenant change. This would apply to new HOAs, and Fishers only has about 6% of its land available for new development.

The Fishers Plan Commission held a public hearing on the HOA governance proposal. City Councilor Brad DeReamer spoke in favor of the change, but the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis testified against enacting the new rule. Developers also opposed the idea, warning of unintended consequences. The Plan Commission postponed a vote on the proposal until city staff can gather feedback from various stakeholders.

Lindsey Bennett has been named Fishers city attorney, replacing Chris Greisl. Greisl has joined the law form of Barnes & Thornburg. However, Greisl has been

retained by the city to assist in legal matters for items related to the City Council and City Council meetings.

The Hamilton Southeastern school board voted to hire the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg to handle legal matters for the district. Church Church Hittle & Antrim had been the school corporation’s law firm for many years.

After much discussion, the Hamilton Southeastern school board announced acceptance of a $5.7 million grant to fund mental health programs. The statement says the board wants to “voice our strong support for acceptance of this five-year grant.”

A new roundabout at the intersection of 116th Street and Allisonville Road could begin construction as early as 2024. During a public meeting on the project, engineers revealed that during 2015 to 2017, there were a total of 82 crashes at that location, with four fatalities and six resulting in lessserious injuries. Engineers say roundabouts can reduce the number of severe accidents.

2023 DIRECTORY & RELOCATION GUIDE

WELCOME TO FISHERS

Greetings Fishers residents,

Fishers’ identity has changed drastically over the past 150 years. What started as a small farming community transformed into a sleepy suburb in the 1990s and grew into today’s vibrant city featuring worldclass destinations, unique dining and retail, and a state-designated cultural district. A place known as one of the best places to live in America, with award-winning schools, an outstanding parks system, and a commitment to innovation.

As we embrace Fishers’ next chapter, we remain anchored by a commitment to always put our community first. As the City team works to bring new attractions

and businesses to Fishers, we are driven by the desire to make Fishers a better place to live, work, and play. We are actively creating new job opportunities, introducing new entertainment and recreation options for residents and visitors, and ensuring a sustainable future for our growing community.

We are dedicated to providing opportunities for our residents to come together and share meaningful experiences, whether it’s at the beach at the Geist Waterfront Park, on a walk along the Nickel Plate Trail, or shopping at the Fishers Farmers Market. With a new Arts Center and Event Center planned to open next year, these opportunities for social connection and

community building only continue to grow.

I’m so excited that you’re here and know that you’re part of a thriving community where connection, innovation, and transparency are valued. Our doors are always open. I encourage you to come to our monthly City Council meetings, engage our staff at community events, and share your feedback on how we can better serve you.

Thanks for embarking on this journey with me into Fishers’ next chapter.

Yours in service, Scott

GEIST HALF MARATHON AND 5K MOVES TO NEW SEPTEMBER DATE

Photography Provided

Runners, walkers and outdoor enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the Geist Half Marathon and 5K each year in April. This year the event team celebrates its 15th anniversary with a move to the fall. The race will take place on September 16 around the beautiful Geist Reservoir.

“Originally, a group of residents came together to create the race and the nonprofit that hosted the race,” says Jake Reardon McSoley, director of recreation and wellness for the City of Fishers. “The Geist Half Marathon organization board came to the city about six months ago with interest in the city taking over the planning.”

Reardon McSoley says the event perfectly aligns with the city’s health initiatives. The city is also partnering with Vision Event Management. During those early conversations, the planning team learned of community feedback. Previous participants’ feedback included moving the race to the fall. Reardon McSoley says the move came down to a few significant reasons - timing,

weather and roadwork.

“In the past, the date it was offered was about two weeks away from the largest half marathon in the state and the Midwest, the Mini Marathon,” Reardon McSoley says. “That makes it very difficult to compete with another race. There aren’t a ton of runners who participate in both races.”

The demographics for the Geist Half Marathon are similar to the demographics of the Fishers community. Many parents and families participate each year, but find the spring timing difficult due to other events. Reardon McSoley says with spring comes more outdoor events, and families needed help choosing which ones to prioritize.

Spring in Indiana is often filled with pleasantly warm, sunny days and the occasional colder, gray days. Reardon McSoley says the planning team looked into fall weather and found better average temperatures in September. Runners and walkers will experience the sights of vibrant fall foliage around Geist Reservoir. The race showcases some of the beautiful

neighborhoods in the Geist area.

“Another reason the move to the fall made sense was due to roadwork,” Reardon McSoley says. “Road projects always kick off in the spring, and that makes a race through the streets of Fishers a bit of a challenge. By the fall, that’s usually a different story.”

One significant change for the 5K is a new route adding a new, major attraction to the area - Geist Waterfront Park. Reardon McSoley says the city is excited to show off the new park to race participants. He says the course was already beautiful, but adding in the park will offer new and different views of the reservoir.

“We evaluated both courses to see if any improvements could be made,” Reardon McSoley says. “We decided to keep the half marathon course the same. I’ve participated in the past, but I’d forgotten how beautiful of a course it truly is. There are about eight different places where you get great views of Geist.”

Half marathon participants receive a longsleeved tech shirt, and a soft, short-sleeved

TownePost.com / 2023 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 17

shirt for 5K participants at no additional cost. In years past, the shirts were not included in the price to enter the race. The shirt designs will be released soon, and Reardon McSoley encourages people to be on the lookout. The planning team is also working on plans for a 3” medal for half marathon finishers, and a 2.5” medal for 5K finishers.

Reardon McSoley says the team is looking to upgrade the entertainment experience for participants. He says they want to add additional entertainment along the course to keep runners and walkers energized throughout the half marathon. Interested parties can apply through the race website. He says they’re also looking for around 500

volunteers for the water stations, start and finish areas, packet pickup, food area, kids play zone, course marshal, cleanup crew, gear check, goody bag stuffing, results, awards, and event tear down.

One tradition that will continue, but with a slight upgrade, is the VIP experience. It includes special VIP gear, a post-race massage tent, all-you-can-eat catered food and drinks, and upgraded restrooms, for a small, additional per-person fee.

“Every resident of Fishers can get involved in some way in this family-friendly event, whether that’s through participating in the race, volunteering or cheering on participants,” Reardon McSoley says. “It’s a great way to showcase our community here in the City of Fishers. We encourage

everyone, regardless of ability or age, to participate.”

Reardon McSoley says the planning team expects around 2,000 half marathon participants, and 1,200 5K participants. The race is a rain-or-shine event, but participant safety is paramount. Dangerous weather is monitored throughout the event. Registration is open until 5 p.m. on September 15, or until the event reaches maximum capacity. Race expo and packet pickup are on September 15 at Grace Fishers Church.

LET’S ALL LIVE HEALTHIER TOGETHER

CLEAR ZONES ARE HEALTHIER PLACES TO EAT, LEARN, PLAY & LIVE IN FISHERS

Thanks to Clear Zones, providing that proof is possible.

that gives their customers the peace of mind they deserve.

When you walk into a restaurant, your office, or your child’s daycare, you assume (or maybe just hope) that it’s clean. Wouldn’t it be nice to know for sure?

Now, more than ever, people want proof of cleanliness in the environments they enter.

Certified Clear Zones are businesses that prioritize the well-being of their customers and employees above all else by implementing advanced cleaning processes. Clear Zones aren’t associated with a specific cleaning company. Rather, they have the product, protocol and proof of cleanliness

Clear Zones are cleaned with MonoFoil, a unique disinfectant and antimicrobial that’s 100% safe for people and animals. The MonoFoil product was developed 13 years ago by Clear Zones business partners Brent Engelman and Nate Richardson.

34 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / 2023 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / TownePost.com
Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photographer / Walker Photography
CONNECT
Brent Engleman

What makes MonoFoil unique is its application and 24-hour germ-repellent nature. A disinfectant like Lysol or Clorox kills germs on contact, but the moment it’s dry, the surface gets re-contaminated by someone’s cough, sneeze, or touch. Because MonoFoil is a disinfectant and antimicrobial, it keeps protecting for up to 24 hours.

“It’s the antimicrobial piece that provides the durability. Yes, it disinfects, but as soon as our product dries, it creates a physical barrier on the surface,” Engelman says. “You can’t see, feel, or smell it, but that active barrier is what keeps the surface cleaner longer.”

Another problem that MonoFoil solves?

Surface destruction. If you’ve ever been in a restaurant and your menu or your elbows stuck to the table, that’s because harsh chemical cleaners ate away the surface.

Your standard and most popular cleaners don’t just destroy germs, but also the surfaces they’re supposed to protect.

MonoFoil, on the other hand, is safe for all

surfaces and it won’t make anything sticky.

And Clear Zones isn’t just about the MonoFoil product, either. Every business that becomes a Clear Zone gets a customized cleaning protocol designed for their space and the way they do business.

Maintaining a higher standard of clean becomes much easier, and so does proving it. Every Clear Zone earns the Registered Clear Zone Badge that they display to show that their space is cleaner and safer. Customers can look for the Badge, and know that those are the spaces where they want to be.

As a local company, Clear Zones has selected Fishers as its first test market. Any business can become a Clear Zone, including local restaurants, gyms, schools and daycares, healthcare and dental offices, wellness facilities, apartment communities, office buildings, municipalities and more.

Engelman and Richardson’s ultimate goal for Clear Zones is to create a vibrant community where people can eat, learn,

play and live healthier. For businesses, becoming a Clear Zone is a three-step process.

Start by applying to become a Clear Zone. Second, receive your welcome kit, which includes your custom cleaning protocol and MonoFoil product. Third, follow the protocol and display your Registered Clear Zone Badge on your windows, website and on social media. Getting the word out lets customers know your space is clean and protected.

As a customer, it’s easy to find Clear Zones. Just look for the Registered Clear Zones Badge at all your favorite places. Scan the QR code to learn more about Clear Zones and how they’re making it possible to live healthier together.

“We are not a one-niche type of solution,” Engelman says. “Any place where people eat, work, learn, play and live should be a Clear Zone so that they can have the cleanest environment possible.”

For more information, visit clearzones.com.

YOU CAN’T SEE, FEEL, OR SMELL IT, BUT THAT ACTIVE BARRIER IS WHAT KEEPS THE SURFACE CLEANER LONGER.

Too often, women put themselves last and neglect to allocate enough resources toward themselves, failing to ensure their own health, longevity or the shape they need to be in to navigate through life.

THE ONLY FITNESS STUDIO DEDICATED TO WOMEN

“There is no one on the team that doesn’t get it,” says Owner Roz Harris. “We know that between children, responsibilities, and your job inside or outside the home, it is tough. So how can you carve out a three-hour-per-week plan tailored just for your health?”

What makes up a program that will get a woman to her goal of becoming all she can be? There are four interrelated parts including strength training, interval cardio and a nutrition plan based on clean eating. Women need a fourth factor. The most important aspect of a get-fit program is having the atmosphere of a supportive community where women feel free to just be themselves.

Harris and the dedicated staff at Fit Chicks! understand that life for the woman who tries to do it all is hard. At Fit Chicks!, personalized fitness, nutrition and accountability programs are individually designed for each client. The studio is truly a place for women, by women.

Each client has a personal trainer with them for every exercise, in every workout. No one has to ever guess if they are doing

a movement correctly. In addition, cardio coaching and nutrition support are right there when they are needed.

The studio always offers a two-week trial membership, to help women just get started. Harris says they need to determine a prospective client’s fit and she wants women to take their time getting to know the Fit Chicks! program as well. “No hard sell here,” Harris adds.

“Fit Chicks is the one place where you can be you,” adds Jenn Rogers, studio manager. “Whether you are in shape, out of shape, young, old, comfortable in your body or uncomfortable, you are worth experiencing a tribe of supportive women while becoming the best you can be. Give me a call and see what a personalized training, nutrition and accountability program, designed exclusively for women by women, is all about!”
