A WARM WELCOME FROM ZIONSVILLE MAYOR JOHN STEHR

Welcome to Zionsville, a place that eight generations of Hoosiers have called home!

We’re proud of our town, and when you spend a little time here, I think you will see why.

It’s not just the unique brickstreet business district, diverse dining options and coffee shops. You’ll also likely notice our best asset - the people who live and work here. In Zionsville, we hold dear our small-town identity, even though, at more than 67 square miles, we are among the largest municipalities in the state. Whether you spend time in our charming Village, our newer subdivisions or rural areas, you will find neighbors who know each other by name. In Zionsville, when we say we live in a community, it is not just a noun. It’s also a verb.

Businesses thrive here and we have big plans to make our town even more vibrant in the coming years. At its core, Zionsville strives to be the place where our neighbors and visitors want to live, work, learn, play and retire. It is our guiding principle for the 21st century - and beyond.

We are proud of our award-winning school system, which includes six elementary schools, two middle schools and Zionsville Community High School, home of the Eagles!

If nature is your passion, we offer a park system that covers more than 700 acres, including the Big 4 Rail Trail, which connects our north and south borders, and offers easy access to neighborhoods and parks along the way. It’s a favorite of runners and bikers, and is the perfect place to take a stroll with friends, colleagues, partners, children and pets.

Even today, it’s not hard to imagine Zionsville in 1852, when local landowner Elijah Cross platted out the town and named it after his business partner, William Zion. Within a few years writers were talking about our beautiful environment, the business enterprise and moral character of our people, and the fact that we had one of the finest schoolhouses in the state. President-Elect Abraham Lincoln stopped here in 1861 and spoke to our citizens from the back of his train. His funeral train came through just four years later, when our people came out to honor our nation’s fallen leader. Where we have been as a town is important to us, and Zionsville’s rich history will always inform its future.

On behalf of our nearly 35,000 residents, please allow me to welcome you to our town, whether you are here for a visit or to become neighbors. The smiles you will see are as real as the bricks on our historic main street.

If there is anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable, please reach out to me and our fantastic town staff. Our motto is “Zionsville. For all the right reasons.” I hope you find many reasons to love our town as much as we do.

LEBANON MAYOR LETTER

Hello and welcome to Boone County!

We are so very happy that you have chosen to call our community your home. Whether you have always lived in Boone County, are moving back to raise your family, or are experiencing life in central Indiana for the first time, I am confident that you will love it here!

As we begin to move toward the end of the first quarter of 2024, the City of Lebanon remains on a positive path forward, brimming with excitement and promise. While serving as Lebanon’s mayor, my focus continues to be aimed at enhancing quality of life and fostering a stronger sense of community among our residents. While some projects consist of new developments, I would like to highlight a few initiatives that are set to take place in the nottoo-distant future.

The city is continuing to invest in the enhancement and creation of recreational spaces. Abner Longley Park is poised to undergo significant revitalization, introducing modern amenities to provide residents with an inviting environment for leisure, exercise and community gatherings. Additions to the amount of green space within the community include the fall completion of Stone Eater Bike Park, and early conversations surrounding a potential new park on the former location of the Street Department on Lafayette Avenue. Park improvements accompany the continued enhancement of The Big 4 Trail. The Big 4 continues to be an expanding, unifying development throughout our part of Indiana. It currently links Lebanon north to Thorntown and into Colfax in Tippecanoe County. The goal for this rail trail is to one day stretch all the way from Lafayette to Indianapolis.

Infrastructure improvements are planned for later this year as well. City roadways will continue to be upgraded to ensure smoother connectivity and accessibility for all residents. As the Indiana Department of Transportation moves closer to relinquishing State Road 39 (Lebanon Street), and allowing the city to make desired improvements, your opinions will be needed to help make the road as safe as possible. Potential enhancements would not only upgrade daily commutes, but also lay the foundation for a more efficient and modernized cityscape.

Another recent citywide upgrade includes 24/7 recycling at the city’s new Department of Public Works facility, located at 324 North Mount Zion Road. Four easy-to-access receptacles are available for residents to use, at their convenience.

Renovations to the City Planning & Zoning Office are now complete. This remodel on the second floor of the Municipal Building consolidated all staff members within the Planning & Zoning Department, including building inspectors and members of our code enforcement team, into one location within the building. The move also makes room for City Judge Alex Kruse, who is now serving in this capacity.

The recent opening of The Farmers Bank Fieldhouse has already brought an added buzz to our community. Not only are hundreds of people of all ages playing basketball, volleyball, pickleball and turf sports within its walls, but there is added excitement surrounding other amenities that could soon be added.

I look forward to the bright future unfolding in our area. Boone County is bustling with many residential, retail and restaurant opportunities for all. I honestly believe that the best is yet to come. As you begin your journey into Boone County, I encourage you to take time to explore all that Lebanon has to offer.

Welcome Home!

Our extremely hot high-pressure water cleaning process gets rid of the nasty gunk and funk stuck in your bins!

GOOGLE REVIEW FROM SALLY P.

“We use Bin Scrub for our garbage totes and always love the results. The crew are very timely, we are given notice prior to the “wash” day…it’s always the day following trash pickup, and they do a deep clean with sprayers and hand towels to finish the job. Needless to say, our totes are clean and shiny with no odor after the job! I would highly recommend this service.”

SPRINGHETTI DENTISTRY

Since 2020, Dr. Aaron Springhetti has been offering a specialized, full-service dental practice for patients looking for something unique.

It’s not every day you hear a dentist refer to his craft as “art,” but for Springhetti, his artistic side led to his passion for cosmetic dentistry.

“I’ve always wanted to take care of people and was interested in the health care field,” he said. “When I was young, I found I had a knack for art. I was always working on projects, always working with my hands, and in college I minored in art. I was introduced to dentistry as something that was both health care related, and getting to create things with your hands, and I knew it was the right path for me.”

He’s in the process of earning accreditation through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Since the 1990s only 500 dentists in the world have received accreditation and only one other in Indianapolis - a mentor of Springhetti.

“Cosmetic dentistry isn’t considered a specialty right now,” Springhetti said. “I think it will be in the future, but it’s important that those of us who specialize

in cosmetic dentistry have received the necessary training and experience. It’s something I believe in, love and truly enjoy. Whether working on a single tooth or a full smile rehabilitation, there are a lot of details that go into it.”

Over the past few years, advances in technology allow patients to see 3D renderings of what their finished smile will look like, but Springhetti said it’s the skill and experience that deliver those results.

“I love that we can offer a digital version for patients to see,” he said. “It makes treatment easier and results more predictable, but really, the patient always looks better than the digital version. It’s important to have someone dedicated to their craft, devoted to always learning more and really fine-tuning their skills.”

Springhetti Dentistry offers everything from routine cleanings to orthodontics to advanced cosmetic dentistry and full-mouth rehabilitation. The goal behind all of their work is to create healthy teeth and smiles for each patient.

Some patients come to Springhetti with years of negative experiences and feelings of self-consciousness about their smile.

“You sometimes see someone cover their mouth when they smile, or you can tell

when someone hesitates before smiling,” Springhetti said. “We’ve had countless patients who have done smile rehabilitation and said, ‘I’ve never felt so good about myself.’ It’s life-changing for many.”

Knowing the joy he’s seen on patients’ faces, Springhetti volunteers once per month at the Heart & Soul free dental clinic in Westfield. He’s been on numerous dental mission trips, and once per year the office puts on Smiles for the Community Day, providing free dental services to underserved individuals at the office.

Ultimately, it’s the relationships he’s forming that matter most.

“You get to know your patient, hear their stories, and learn about their life and their family,” Springhetti said. “We’re spending a lot of time with them, so it’s much more than just a patient-provider relationship; our patients are part of our dental family. You look forward to seeing those patients just for who they are, rather than focusing on clinical or procedural aspects of the relationship.”

HARMONY POOLS KEEPS CUSTOMERS FROM GETTING IN OVER THEIR HEADS

Photographer / Michaela

The weather is improving, and thoughts of opening the family pool are near.

Many don’t know there’s a bit of a learning curve when thinking about installing your own pool in the backyard, but local experts are available to help you every step of the way.

Noel Thimlar comes from a long line of pool experts and she’s expecting a very busy year at Harmony Pools.

Her grandparents started a pool business, and now Thimlar and her family have taken the reins.

“Back in the 1960s they started to gunite build, a special trade that we do that’s all in-house,” Thimlar said. “They’re kind of like pieces of art. When we build one, we want to take care of it for life.”

While much of Harmony Pools’ installations are commercial now, they’re offering plenty for residential customers as well.

In May of 2022, Harmony Pools opened their first retail store in Zionsville - a place customers can stop by, ask questions, have their water tested and pick up supplies for their pool at home.

“We now have 1,000 more square feet of warehouse space so we’re able to stock more supplies for customers,” Thimlar said. “If you bring in water from your pool, we can test it and advise you on how to take care of it. For those new pool customers, we can get you started.”

They have all of the needed pool chemicals in stock and will even recycle old chemicals customers want to toss.

Harmony Pools also offers routine maintenance and repair packages.

“We have people who want to do it themselves to those that want us to do it all,” Thimlar said. “Either way, it’s really important that your pool is serviced yearround. Think of it like a car; it’s better to be proactive than reactive.”

They offer services to open and close your pool for the season, along with weekly and monthly packages for upkeep.

A typical maintenance call includes water testing, vacuuming of the pool, serving the equipment and making small repairs. By the time the crew leaves, the water line will be clean, the deck rinsed, and everything in pristine condition.

When the pandemic was at its height, Thimlar noticed a large increase in customers wanting to build a pool in the backyard. However, many of us don’t know what we’re getting into.

“There are a lot of people who don’t know if they don’t do their research,” Thimlar said. “If you want a pool installed, it’s a big investment and considered a structure on your property. There are all different types of pools, so you want to research your options and know what’s going to be best for you when it comes to budget and longterm care.”

Like a vehicle, maintaining the pool

properly can save a lot of money in the long run.

“You have to maintain your pool in the wintertime, test the water and add chlorine,’ Thimlar said. “Many don’t realize that there is a difference between automatic covers and a winter cover - that is, until we get a huge snowstorm that dumps ice on the auto cover and it can’t hold.”

Another quick tip - always have a swimming pool inspection done before purchasing a home.

Thimlar said too many times, a family buys a home and doesn’t realize their pool is outdated, has a leak or hasn’t been taken care of, prompting a big bill to correct the situation.

“We can fix a lot, but there does come a point where it’s no longer fixable and your option is to fill it in or build a new one,” Thimlar said. “Back in the ‘60s we didn’t have the pool technology we have today, so there are instances where a pool is so old, they are no longer fixable.”

As technology and advancements progress, even equipment used decades ago is changing and developing with the times.

Knowing the latest developments could save customers time and money.

“The biggest thing we’re bringing back from educational seminars is everyone is switching to energy-efficient pumps,” Thimlar said. “There’s a big movement right now to meet new energy guidelines so we expect all of the pumps and equipment to be changing.”

What many appreciate is the honest and helpful way Thimlar and her crew go about trying to help their clients, and the family environment they experience when reaching out to the pool company.

Too often she hears new pool owners saying, “This is not how I wanted my pool experience to be,” and at Harmony Pools, they can make things easier.

“I’m the only third generation in the pool business in the state of Indiana,” Thimlar

said. “One of our service guys has worked with us since he was 18, and now his teenage son is learning the ropes. My husband graduated from Zionsville High School and we live in Lebanon now. We just want the pools in our community to be taken care of.”

The ultimate goal, Thimlar said, is to make the industry as simple and safe as possible for all pool fans.

They’ve even implemented an online ordering and delivery service from their website for chemicals.

“Owning a pool can be an expensive project to begin with, but we try to relieve a little bit of that with affordable prices and maintenance packages,” Thimlar said. “We’re here to help the community with any of their pool needs.”

SPORTS CENTRAL

THE FARMERS BANK FIELDHOUSE OPENS IN LEBANON

The Farmers Bank Fieldhouse in Lebanon is now open, and provides a wide range of sports programming for adults and youths, including basketball, pickleball, soccer, football, baseball and softball. With a spacious 200,000-square-foot facility featuring basketball courts, 12 pickleball courts, a turf field, and pitching and hitting tunnels, the fieldhouse leaders aim to enhance the sports community in Lebanon and foster connections within the area.

“We truly believe The Farmers Bank Fieldhouse will enrich the sports community in Lebanon for many years to come,” says Mason Hankins, president. “We’re also hoping this serves as a catalyst to bring other businesses and opportunities to the area much like Grand Park has done for Westfield.”

The facility is part of an extensive development called Hickory Junction. The 95-acre, mixed-use development surrounds the fieldhouse and is located off Interstate

65 and State Road 39. Hickory Junction will be divided into four areas: medical offices, restaurants, retail and residential.

GoTime Basketball is The Farmers Bank Fieldhouse’s premier in-house youth basketball program. GoTime provides high-level development opportunities through professional coaching, a stateof-the-art facility, practices, games and training. Hankins and fellow athlete Jack O’Flaherty developed the program from their high school and college experiences. O’Flaherty played at Sheridan High School and Earlham College, while Hankins played at Hamilton Southeastern High School and DePauw University. Hankins says the fieldhouse will offer spring and summer five-day camps consisting of skill development, five-versus-five games, and fun competitions for boys and girls in grades one through eight. The fieldhouse also offers sessions providing an introduction to basketball for children aged 4 to 6.

“For our GoTime teams, we build each one around skill level,” Hankins says. “So no one is getting cut. We have some kids who are just learning and developing, and others who are very skilled and have played basketball for quite some time.”

To meet the demand for the exploding popularity of pickleball, the fieldhouse has 12 dedicated pickleball courts with no fee for reserved court times, monthly league play, clinics and private instruction, tournaments, and social mixers for a monthly fee.

Hankins says volleyball tournament season has already started heating up, with the facility having hosted two significant volleyball events on opening weekend with 15 games per hour. Hankins says both events were a huge success. The fieldhouse staff plans to offer X-Factor Quarterback Academy in the future. NFL quarterback Anthony Morelli created the program and teaches athletes to be successful through

34 | April 2024 | TownePost.com

hard work, consistency and 100% effort. The academy offers summer camps for young athletes looking to improve their skills on the field. Morelli personally trains the coaching staff operating his program at the facility.

The fieldhouse is also treating kids to stellar memory-making birthday parties and sports-business-themed field trips.

The 90-minute birthday parties entertain kids with customized physical activities and sports. Options encompass basketball, football, pickleball, soccer, kickball and dodgeball, with food and drinks included. Families can customize the menu with kid-

friendly choices such as pizza, hot dogs and burgers.

“With the field trips, our staff hit all areas of business in a state-of-the-art sports complex,” Hankins says. “We discuss healthy eating, participate in a physical activity, and show them how to run a concession stand. They’re doing math problems with money, giving back change and calculating profit.”

The Farmers Bank Fieldhouse broke ground in late 2022 and opened its doors in February 2024 to much-anticipated excitement from the Lebanon community. Lebanon Mayor Matt Gentry was on hand

for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“We’re pleased with the community reaction and involvement so far,” Hankins says. “We’re proud to be the hub of this Hickory Junction development and can’t wait to see what the future of this area brings to Lebanon.”

The Farmers Bank Fieldhouse is located at 645 Fieldhouse Way in Lebanon. Sponsorship opportunities and facility rentals are available. For more information, visit thefarmersbankfh.com.

RAISING SPIRITS

FOUR FINGER DISTILLERY BUILDS OUT LEBANON LOCATION

Neat. On the rocks. Double. Dirty. Two fingers…or four. Whatever spirit you fancy and however you like it crafted, it’s on the menu at Four Finger Distillery, formerly known as 1205 Distillery.

Nolan Hudson, owner and operator, and his lifelong buddy Brad Colver, have built the new Lebanon location from the ground up. “Blood, sweat, tears and pinky” is a phrase you might hear thrown around on a Saturday night if you happen in for some cocktails, tacos and live music. The building is brick and unassuming on the outside, but walk in and you will find copper, metal,

repurposed materials from the Hudson and Colver’s own hands. But the best part is that the whiskey is as good as the facility is beautiful.

Hudson and Colver have a long history in the spirits industry, with Hudson’s family owning Fountain Square Brew Company and Colver having fine-tuned his craft at a distillery in Colorado. Their paths fortuitously came together again, and this is when the magic happened. They started serving cocktails in a storage unit, added in some live music and their business savvy, and the rest is history. They were popular

downtown crowd and just couldn’t keep up with the demand. That’s how 1205 Distillery, now Four Finger, was born. Some of the very best things are built by accident.

So how did this place get its name? Hudson and Colver pride themselves on their own blood, sweat and tears being poured into each location (they have locations in Westfield and downtown Indy as well). Colver was working on opening the Westfield location back in 2014 and made a bad cut while installing a door, losing his pinky finger. The unfortunate story quickly became legend, and the

play on words - Four Finger - resulted.

Each distillery is curiously different, just in case you think you shouldn’t visit all of them. The Westfield location only serves spirits (dogs are welcome). The downtown Indy location has crafted cocktails as well, as well as local favorite Greek’s Pizzeria. The new Lebanon location will be family friendly and serve up Gordito’s tacos (which is currently located in the Fishers Test Kitchen).

Six signature cocktails will be served at all three of the distilleries, and each will have cocktails specific to each location. One consistent find in all locations is quality. Don’t miss the Boone County Smash signature cocktail - a mix of vodka, rhubarb liquor, lemon juice, simple syrup and fresh mint.

“We make all of our award-winning spirits in house with local, Indiana grain,” Hudson says.

GOING PUBLIC

LOCALS WELCOME THE ZIONSVILLE PUBLIC HOUSE

Marcus White is a retired military officer who wanted to bring a neighborhood bar to Zionsville.

He opened The Pub at Anson in Zionsville nearly three years ago, and as of February, The Zionsville Public House is serving customers in the former Village Station location.

“We completely gutted the space, so it’s completely different than it was before,” White said. “I build bars that I want to hang out in. We just like a warm, inviting space for people to get together and eat some really good food.”

The Zionsville Public House has spacious decor, several TVs and rotating craft beers. There are also pool tables, darts and pull tabs, as well as a large outdoor space.

“I tend to find that my places draw a really regular crowd,” White said. “We’re there for the people who are there for us every day. A lot of the dishes are inspired by me traveling around the world as an Army officer. We’re a place where we cook food; we don’t reheat food.”

On the menu, customers can find a signature smash steak burger, gastropub items such as Argentinian steak frites and Venetian pizza, and the “Mess,” which is a steak, egg and potato bowl.

The Zionsville Public House does not have a phone or online ordering, so employees can focus on taking care of people who are in the restaurant. To-go food is available for customers who order in person.

“I’m intent on every guest that comes in having a great first experience,” White said.

“You’re going to get nice decor and a place where you can meet some regulars, see some friendly faces, and feel like what a public house from the very origins of the English term was intended for - a place where neighborhoods get together.”

The Zionsville Public House is a 21-andover restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The patio is dog friendly, and since the restaurant is located along the bike trail, there are plans to install a bike rack.

It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and located at 10615 Zionsville Road.

INSOMNIA MOM MAKES LIFE EASIER THROUGH CUSTOMIZABLE CONCIERGE SERVICES

Everyone goes through seasons in life when things keep them up at night. Women, especially mothers, seem to fall prey to this phenomenon. Insomnia Mom was founded by Vikki Duke, a fulltime realtor and busy mom who knows firsthand what it’s like to juggle many balls in the air at once.

“Insomnia Mom is a concierge service and a one-stop solution for busy women,” she says. “I would have loved something like this when I first went back to work. It’s for women at every stage of life who are looking for resources. Insomnia Mom connects women with a concierge buffet of brilliant professionals that can supply the services they need. There is no membership needed; the over-adozen consultants are independent contractors. If someone has a specific need not covered by one of our consultants, then we will find one.”

After surveying a variety of age groups, a wide spectrum of consultants was assembled. The result is a menu of services that

includes something for everyone. Health and wellness are covered, in addition to services to relieve the stress of daily living such as meal prep, organization, and creating a green and clean space. If your home needs an interior redesign or you need help with staging before selling, Insomnia Mom has the consultant.

Insomnia Mom also provides consultants to tackle the tough job of parenting. Resources are available for raising a child with ADHD. Mothers cherish sleep, so an important member of the contractor team is a certified pediatric sleep consultant. Those raising older children can find coaching regarding navigating college admissions, testing, and choosing college prep courses.

Insomnia Mom recognizes that many individuals are members of the sandwich generation; they are not only raising a family, but also responsible for overseeing the needs of senior relatives. A dementia navigation coach is offered. Additionally, a wellness coach and functional movement specialist can craft safe, customized exercise

plans to increase functional mobility.

Women re-entering or currently in the workforce will find needed support. An employment readiness consultant is available who specializes in giving advice on choosing a career path, resumes, interviewing, networking and personal branding strategies. Another advisor can help women sharpen their communication abilities and methods. For those wanting to start or grow an existing business, the services of an entrepreneur advisor can be utilized. There is also a leadership specialist for improving management skills.

Each month, Insomnia Mom hosts workshops and events held at COhatch Zionsville and other nearby locations. Examples of past workshops are Tech Neck: Solutions for Alleviating the Symptoms of Screens, and Sitting and Bedtime Books; Creating a Healthy Sleep Book for Mommy and Me. A popular social event was Succulents, Charcuterie and Champagne. Upcoming workshops and events can be viewed on the official website, and registration is required.

Tutoring services are also offered. Subject areas include language arts and math for grades three through eight. Orton-Gillingham reading for grades one through five, virtual Spanish lessons for all ages, and virtual writing and editing for grades kindergarten through nine are other courses. Requests can be submitted via the Insomnia Mom website.

“Help us help you by communicating with us,” says Duke. “Visit our website, insomniamom.com, and subscribe to our newsletter. Check us out on Facebook and Instagram @ insomniamomzionsville. We want to work with you and hear from you! Call or text us at 317-296-0419.”

BOONE COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT

Jennifer Lawrence, executive director of the Boone County Solid Waste Management District for the last 13 years, says the program has helped a lot of people.

“In 1991 Indiana mandated the creation of local solid waste management districts to help preserve landfill space within the state of Indiana,” Lawrence says. “At the time Indiana was receiving a good amount of waste from outside of our state. Very little, if any, recycling was happening within communities, and it was estimated that our local landfills only had seven years of capacity remaining. Since that time, it has a been a slow and steady process of implementing education and collection programs with public private partnerships all throughout the state. Now, with efforts to reduce our waste, reuse as much as possible and recycle most of what is left, Indiana has over 50 years of landfill capacity. Improved engineering in our local landfills has helped this effort as well.”

Lawrence adds that while the Midwest has not been the U.S. leader on green initiatives

in comparison to the east and west coasts, the ideals of green and sustainable living have increased in importance.

“The knowledge of preserving our natural resources, the economic impacts of the circular economy, and the pride that is built in making a better community, are essential to building the kind of society we want to live in and pass on to the next generation,” Lawrence says.

Lawrence says she has a great staff at the Boone County Solid Waste Management District.

“Darla Bevard has been with the district for 26 years and currently has the title of assistant director,” Lawrence says. “Just this year we added a part-time education and outreach coordinator, and her name is Amelia Braga. Also, for this year we have a Lebanon High School intern named Reid Nelson.”

Lawrence says Boone County residents can have items hauled away. “Whether it is a resident moving into Boone County, a spring home clean-out or someone

looking for new service, the Boone County Solid Waste Management District acts as a resource for our residents,” she says. “Education on recycling and proper disposal programs are listed on our website. On behalf of the Boone County commissioners, the Boone County Solid Waste Management District registers solid waste haulers that service Boone County. We publish a list on our website with contact information that enables a resident to easily see the services offered from the local private industry. This is an excellent example of a public-private partnership working together to better our communities.”

Lawrence says recycling efforts continue to grow throughout the communities of Boone County.

“We educate that the recycling that yields the best results is curbside,” she says. “Residents tend to follow the rules better. We will be the first to agree that there are many recycling rules. Both Zionsville and Lebanon offer curbside recycling through their municipal contracts. A handful of homeowners associations have contracts that include curbside, and then some

48 | April 2024 | TownePost.com
BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

areas outside of the ones mentioned have curbside recycling availability.”

The next best option is recycling drop spots, according to Lawrence.

“The City of Lebanon has bins at their Department of Public Works,” she says. “The Boone County Solid Waste Management District host bins in Thorntown and Advance - again, another example of the district stepping in to provide a service where it is not otherwise offered. In 2023 we collected over 147 tons of commingled recyclables within Thorntown and Advance. With recycling, it is always imperative to understand what your service accepts and to keep the materials clean, dry and loose.”

Lawrence says composting is growing, especially in the areas of Zionsville and Whitestown.

“We partner with Earth Mama Compost, a private company that offers curbside

composting,” she says. “If you don’t know about their services, it is a great education to investigate. With our new education and outreach coordinator, we plan to amp up our education for composting. We have already added a page on our website dedicated to the topic.”

Lawrence says community outreach has also been important.

“The community grant program was one of the first programs I initiated in 2011,” Lawrence says. “Since that time we have distributed more than $250,000 and helped 53 local organizations. These funds have helped recycling initiatives and expansion, proper disposal programs, and support the circular economy by closing the loop and purchasing goods made from recycled materials. The community grant program is open to nonprofits, schools, libraries, civic organizations and businesses in Boone County. A grant program available to businesses is unique.”

Lawrence says municipalities have been eligible for community grants in the past.

“Overall, the last year we have carved them out to have their own grant program,” she says. “This enables us to be more flexible with timing for the grant funds and work within the constraints of their annual budget. Similar to the community grants, the funds have helped recycling initiatives and expansion, proper disposal programs, and support the circular economy by closing the loop and purchasing goods made from recycled materials. Education and outreach is an ongoing mission with our office. We will strive each day of the week to help our community be better stewards of their community and our resources.”

CLOSETS BY DESIGN

As we begin spring cleaning, clearing out the clothes we haven’t worn in years and reorganizing that frustrating shoe rack, it’s not uncommon to think, “There must be a better way to do this.”

There is - but many of us can’t see the big picture and need a third party to come in, look at a space, and create something that solves the issues we’ve been struggling with for years.

Perhaps this year is the year the garage finally gets cleaned out and reorganized, or the walk-in closet that looked like a dream when you first moved in can now be functional and fun.

For the past couple of years, Anthony and Jill Rund have been helping customers transform areas of their home to maximize space, become better organized and simply enjoy the aesthetically pleasing look of a well-designed space.

“My wife and I moved here seven years ago and loved the area,” Rund said. “We see this as our long-term home now, and we’re excited to be part of a great team here in Indianapolis, delivering products and services that our customers value.

When a customer calls, a designer visits the home, takes measurements, talks to the customer about their desires and their use for the space, and then sits down to come up

with a plan together.

“What sets us apart is the time we take to listen to our customers’ needs, and then custom design and manufacture a product that delivers on those needs,” Rund said. “At our facility in Indianapolis we build the exact system you need and then come in and install it. So, you might find something close for your closet at a big-box store, but here, if you need something that is 28.5 inches, we’ll maximize that space by making something custom for you.”

Closets are a popular request, but Rund said they work in pantries, laundry rooms, garages, media/entertainment rooms, and basements - anywhere that might be in need of organization and a better storage or display system.

“It’s not uncommon for someone to say they have this old wire rack system and they want to get rid of that,” Rund said. “Customers are looking for the next level, a quality look, and oftentimes we can’t find that at a bigbox store.”

As a family of six, Rund and his wife know firsthand the challenges of maintaining a home with four children, and love the idea of helping others reach their goals for their home.

“Our tagline is, ‘Imagine your home totally organized,’” Rund says. “We could see right away how this product could be very helpful and it would really help people organize their lives. We take pictures of before and after, and often share those with the team because it’s inspiring to us as well as it is to you.”

Closets by Design is a national franchise with an established brand, but the team in Indianapolis that designs, engineers and builds the product is local to your neighborhood.

They have a small showroom for curious customers who want to see options and allow their imaginations to expand. The showroom and manufacturing building is located at 1810 South Lynhurst Drive, Suite Q in Indianapolis.
