Fierce roars filled the University Amphitheater as the College of Engineering (CEN) Tigers toppled down the five other colleges in the cheerdance competition and won the championship title as their stronger comeback for this year’s University Week, Nov. 14. “[The preparation] started out rocky because all of us were busy with exams and other academic requirements but we made sure to [make] use of the little time [that] we have to make our college proud,” third-year Civil Engineering student and participant Benz Matthew Mandid shared.
The CEN has also won the cheerdance competition for the year 2018 - 2019, during the prepandemic U-Week celebration. Claiming championship after two years of onsite U-Week hiatus has made them claim their grand slam win. “Our goal this year was to make a grandslam, and fortunately we have achieved it. As a graduating student, this experience is a memorable one

because this is what we will leave as our legacy,” fourth-year BS Civil Engineering student and participant Leo Araña shared.
Furthermore, the cheerdance competition was preceded by the declaration of the University Week 2022 Opening Ceremony message given by University President Rev. Fr. Joel Alve, OAR.
“We thank God today for giving us the opportunity to celebrate our university week after two years. This is a very special celebration because of two reasons: first, this year is the 60th year of the university as an Agustinian Recollect Institution and second, the U-Week is celebrated in honor of the blessed mother with the title of Nuestra Señora de la Salud whose feast falls on November 17,” Fr. Alve said in his message. Fr. Alve encourages everyone to keep being passionate about their dreams while staying devoted to God.
The College of Arts and Sciences finished in second place during the competition, followed by the

Through worship and prayers, students, student leaders, and society officers gathered for a musical and reflective service during the AMBAHANON: Taize and Lights of UNO-R, held at the Oratory of St. Nicholas of Tolentine, Nov. 14. “As we start this university celebration, let us not forget God and let us put Him as the center of everything we do. Our talents and skills [are] a gift fromHim,” UNORSSGO Secretary of Religious Affairs, Marian Sigrid Escobar expressed. In addition, Escobar emphasized that asking for divine enlightenment is essential in order for the

Participants of each college department designed their vehicles and paraded together with their candidates for Miss UNO-R, a highlight event of the weeklong celebration. Student councils from every department also joined the motorcade as part of their support for their respective candidates.

Exceeding their expected number of donors, the Medical Committee for this year’s University Week collected a total of 48 blood bags at their annual bloodletting activity, held at the St. Augustine Building Rooms 101-103, Nov. 14. “It was my first time donating blood and that experience helped me to actualize my sense of generosity and empathy towards others,” College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Member Rex Zamora said.
Zamora shared that according to him, blood is a symbol of life. Sharing it to others is one way of upholding and preserving a life which is sacred.
“This activity is organized by the medical committee that was formed by the University for this U-Week Celebration, in which during this celebration, blood donation activity is always held in which we tap the Dean of College of Allied Medical Sciences,” Medical Committee Chairman and University Physician Dr. Christer Mari Taclobos said.
The medical committee comprises Dr. Taclobos as the chairman, Rev. Fr. Jose Alden Alipin, OAR, Dr. Sheila Arnibal, RN, MN, and the medical clinic staff, in partnership with the Negros First Provincial Blood Center and each University college department.
