WHAT WE DO A

t Calvary, our heart is that all would come to know the life-changing power that comes through a relationship with Jesus! Each year we aim to make an eternal impact by loving our neighbors, traveling to the nations, raising funds for projects, and sending monthly support to our partners who are on the front lines reaching the lost. God has called each of us individually to be a part of the Great Commission - so that everyone, in every nation, has access to the Gospel. When we work together, we can reach the 3 billion people who have never even heard His name. Our prayer is that you would join this faithful community at Calvary who are passionately generous!

1

WHY WE DO IT A

s we read the Bible, there are 1,600 verses that show God’s heart and passion for the world. We see this played out in the greatest act of generosity known to man; God gave us His one and only son, Jesus. This remarkable gift should make us want to do everything we can to share it with the world!

- 1 Chronicles 16:24

To the tribes and nations who have never heard. To the family in our town that hasn’t had a chance to know Him. Their stories are yet to be finished - but someone must tell them. This is why we DO missions at Calvary Church; so that all may hear.

CELEBRATING 2023 We are celebrating all the unbelievable ways God has helped us to reach our 2023 Missions Goal! By raising over $435,000, we were able to invest in projects around the world that are bringing Life Change to hundreds of thousands of people. Look at all the places around the world where your mission offerings are making an impact.

North America Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission is reaching lives every day through shelters, chapel services, and warm

meals. Calvary’s investment in a kitchen upgrade is helping the ministry efficiently feed 100s of people each week. By meeting people’s physical needs, the door to their hearts are opened so they are ready to hear the Gospel and feed their spiritual hunger!

Latin America ChildHope is an organization in Peru that works to provide Christian education in places where children have nothing. By sponsoring 50 kids for an entire year, Calvary was able to help bring transformation through education, discipleship, and works of compassion for these children and their families.

Europe BalkanREACH exists to reach the whole Balkan region in Europe. Calvary’s investment allows the team to

bring life to the local church, evangelize the lost, and plant churches. Over 99% of the 42 million people in the Balkans are spiritually lost with limited access to the Gospel. In many areas, there are no missionaries, no believers, no evangelical churches, and no opportunity to hear the Gospel.

Africa In March, a Calvary missions team traveled to Hennenman, South Africa partnering with a small rural church to help with their very first Serve Week. Our project in 2023 has helped the church love their community like never before during Serve Week, provided a playground for the neighborhood, and installed a water tank system that gives drinking water to the town when the public water source stops working. This local community is feeling God’s love in a whole new way this year!

Northern Asia Today there are still 1,700 people groups who do not have a copy of the Bible in their language. This year we partnered with FireBible to help provide a translation of the New Testament for the Uyghur people who live in northwest China. Providing access to God’s Word is crucial to finishing the Great Commission. Everyone needs a chance to understand and apply Scripture to their daily life, allowing them to have a deeper relationship with the Lord.

Asia Pacific Our friends at Destiny Rescue are a vital part of ending the sexual exploitation and trafficking of children around the world. Agents work relentlessly to bring them to freedom and start them down a path of redemption. Calvary was able to make a donation this year that provided the funds needed to rescue 21 lives in Asia Pacific.

International Through the years, Calvary has partnered with Convoy of Hope both monthly and during times of relief.

Their heart for the vulnerable shines bright as they provide programs designed to bring solutions to the root causes of poverty and hunger. We are excited to have partnered with them in 2023 as they delivered kindness and compassion through disaster relief, children’s feeding programs, agricultural help, women’s empowerment, and rural initiatives.

2024 MISSION PROJECTS AND GIVING GOALS As a church, our heart is for people all around the world to experience Life Change through a relationship with Christ. As we prayed and asked God to show us where we should invest in 2024, we felt Him leading us to help build communities so connections can be made. We know that when a community comes together, people feel connected and relationships develop. From these relationships, we are asking God for open doors, allowing the Gospel to be shared and hearts to receive Jesus.

Missions is Going Global HOW, THEN, CAN THEY CALL ON THE ONE THEY HAVE NOT BELIEVED IN? AND HOW CAN THEY BELIEVE IN THE ONE OF WHOM THEY HAVE NOT HEARD? AND HOW CAN THEY HEAR WITHOUT SOMEONE PREACHING TO THEM? AND HOW CAN ANYONE PREACH UNLESS THEY ARE SENT? AS IT IS WRITTEN: “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS!” ROMANS 10:14-15

We live in a big world with millions of people who have not had a chance to know Christ in an authentic, life-changing way. Over 40% of the world has no access to the knowledge of who Jesus is. That’s over two billion people who are not aware of the true hope, love, peace, and eternal life found in Jesus. Most of those people are thousands of miles from Maumee, Ohio. They are waiting to hear the Good News of Jesus for the first time. Not one person in their life knows Jesus, there are few, if any churches in their country, and no one has translated the Bible into their language. People in their community are dying every day without knowing that life in Jesus is even a possibility.

2024 Short-Term Mission Trips

There is no better way to see God’s heart for the lost than going on a short-term mission trip, stepping outside your normal routine, and allowing God to use you in ways you could never imagine! Make 2024 the year you take a step of faith and go on a mission trip!

Missions is Loving Local Often, when we think of those who need to hear about Jesus, our minds race around the globe. But there are many people right in our community who are lost. These people drive by numerous churches on their way to work, have friends and family members who follow Jesus, and have likely attended church occasionally. Our neighbors, our family, our friends…all have some level of access, even if limited, to the Gospel of Jesus. But we can be the LIGHT right where God has placed us. Think of your neighborhood, schools, and workplace as the mission field God has put you in. Find ways to be the LIGHT He has called you to be. Take time to be intentional, and pray for those you interact with (neighbors, co-workers, friends), invite them into your personal life, and look for opportunities to share how Christ has changed you!

LOCAL MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Engaging with missions requires us to learn how to love people around the world and right here in the 419. This love is the key that opens people’s hearts to the message of Christ. Without it, Scripture tells us we are only a clanging cymbal making a ridiculous noise. Ask God to fill your heart with love for others! The harvest is ready! People are waiting to know Jesus!

...I TELL YOU, OPEN YOUR EYES AND LOOK AT THE FIELDS! THEY ARE RIPE FOR HARVEST JOHN 4:35

MATTHEW 5:14

Missions is Giving God has called each of us to be a part of reaching the world with the message of hope! For the message to reach those near and far, we must invest. When we come together as the body of Christ, each doing our part, we can see the extraordinary take place! Through sacrifice, we can give thousands of dollars to expand the Kingdom of God and see Life Change throughout our community, our country,

and the rest of the world.

A

We believe that God instructs us to tithe - giving back to God the first 10% of our income. The tithe is used for the operations and day-to-day ministry of a church. Giving to missions is above and beyond the tithe. At Calvary, when you give to missions, you are investing in our yearly projects AND the monthly support we send our partner missionaries and ministries that God has strategically placed around the world.

sk God what He would want you to give and then take bold steps of generosity to see how God blesses your gift. Remember, every gift matters to God. It’s not the size of the gift, but the obedience to God’s voice that matters. God will supply all your needs Philippians 4:19 and He can do exceedingly, and abundantly more than we can even imagine Ephesians 3:20.

GOAL:

Govi-Altai, Mongolia $25,000 PROJECT 1

S

andwiched between China and Russia, the country of Mongolia has over 3 million people who are waiting to hear about Jesus. With less than 1% of Mongolians identifying as followers of Christ, the need is great to create spaces that invite people into a Christian community.

This spring, they plan to break ground and begin building a new space that will allow them to not only house their Community Center, but also provide a space for discipleship training and a church. God has been so faithful to answer their prayers and as a church, we are excited to join their efforts in reaching all of Western Mongolia!

ean

Our partner missionaries have been working in this area for over 10 years. They have started a Community Center that is reaching kids and families in the city through English classes, community events, Bible studies, and small groups.

They currently work out of a small rented space which allows them to reach about thirty people at a time. Although they are thankful for the thirty, they know God has called them to more.

Convoy of Hope $40,000 PROJECT 2

C

onvoy of Hope is a ministry that started in 1994 with a passion for feeding the needy. Over the years it has grown into a worldwide Christian humanitarian organization, serving millions of people each year. Nothing at Convoy of Hope happens without purpose. Convoy’s strategy is to work alongside communities to bring solutions to the root causes of poverty and hunger. They know that true Life Change comes when they can meet a person’s physical needs AND

17

share the hope of Christ. Whether it’s feeding children, empowering women, training farmers, responding to disasters, or serving a community in need, the goal is to bring help and hope where they are needed most.

ur partners in West Africa are working to reach the Mandinka people group. The Mandinkas are Muslims who live in poor villages scattered throughout Northern Gambia. To date, there are zero Christian churches among them and they have no access to Jesus.

cea

The Community Center will provide a space to invite local Mandinka residents to learn practical skills while also hearing about Jesus. This space will also serve as their church plant and one day, Lord willing, will become a Bible school to train Christian leaders to carry God’s Word deep into the country.

GOAL:

Azerbaijan $70,000 PROJECT 4

M

any of our mission partners work in countries that are not open to the Gospel being shared. We call them “sensitive” countries or “creative access.” Missionaries must find a business that they can work for or run, giving them access to the country and ultimately access to people who have not had a chance to hear the Gospel. This is the case for our partners in Azerbaijan who run an English school. Through the influence that this business creates, connections are being formed and genuine relationships are cultivated by creating community. The message of Jesus is shared early and often. People who are seeking, and whose hearts are open to the Gospel message, are invited into Bible studies where the discipleship journey continues. Small house churches are planted, and believers begin to replicate the model of multiplication.

21

The English school has been a great tool, but to reach more people they need to increase their opportunities. This year they will grow the school into a Community Center offering more connecting points with the community that are not limited to those who want to learn a new language. The new space and business will allow them to have a coffee house, international cuisine classes, host events, a computer center, business training lessons, cultural exchange events, and much more. In the future, the space will also be available for new believer training and a safe place for the local church to meet. Calvary is excited to invest in this new building that will not only house a Community Center, but will offer people a chance to meet Christians who are ready to share about the new life they can have in Christ.

GOAL:

Bethel, Alaska $25,000 PROJECT 5

W

hen we talk about missions, images of Africa and Asia can quickly fill our minds. Our fifth project of the year might seem closer to home, yet the need is huge in rural Alaska. With complex logistics, difficult travel, high cost of living, and spiritual strongholds, over 100 villages in Alaska are without a consistent Gospel witness. This can only be overcome by the power of Jesus.

Our partners in Alaska are working to build a community hub in Bethel, Alaska. The building, when renovated, will act as a hub for church ministry in Bethel, training future marketplace ministers, resourcing ministers on the ground, and equipping future indigenous disciple-makers. Its position in Bethel is highly strategic as this community serves as a hub community for 56 extremely rural villages.

Calvary has called Maumee home since our first service at 1360 Conant in January 2013. We know there are hundreds of families and individuals all around our community who need Jesus in ways they have never

25

experienced. When we reach out and offer love with no strings attached, we are opening the door for God to do big things. In 2024, we are excited to bring Serve Week back to Maumee. Make plans now to join us August 5th - 8th as we work to build community so that we can create connections that lead to life change.

CAN I SET UP A RECURRING DONATION?

Yes! When you give through the Calvary website or the app, you can set up recurring donations to missions (weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, etc).

CAN I DESIGNATE FUNDS FOR A SPECIFIC PROJECT?

If you would like to give a significant donation towards a specific project you can contact us in the office to make arrangements - missions@ toledocalvary.org

ARE MY DONATIONS TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

Yes, all donations made to Calvary Church are tax deductible. At the end of each year, we will mail you a giving statement for all donations made.

WHAT DOES OUR GOAL OF $450,00 INCLUDE?

Our annual mission goal allows us to support our partners monthly, send funds to each of the special projects, and cover mission expenses like hosting mission week, urgent projects, and mission trip project funds.

WHAT IF WE GIVE MORE THAN OUR GOAL?

After we take time to celebrate (woohoo!!) we would evaluate our current projects to see if there was a greater need, consider the many mission needs we receive each year, and review the list of missionaries that have asked to join the Calvary family. We believe in making commitments and then trusting God to do BIG things.

WHAT IF WE DON’T REACH OUR GOAL?

Calvary’s people always amaze us with their heart of generosity, but if our funds are short of the full goal, we would first send our committed monthly support to each partner. Next, we would decrease each special project.

IF YOU HAVE ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS, FEEL FREE TO SEND US AN EMAIL MISSIONS@TOLEDOCALVARY.ORG OR CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE (419-893-2171).

Calvary is proud to be part of the Maumee community. This summer we will spend a week in August Loving the 419 right in our own backyard. Mark your calendar now so you can join us as we serve our neighbors, schools, and community heroes!
