Calvary Church | 2020 Annual Report

The year 2020 will not soon be forgotten. At Calvary Church, things started out strong. The first two months of the year were marked by record average attendance, new events, and the launch of the Life Change Initiative.

In March, things began to change. A global pandemic and a presidential election shaped the year. Political, racial, and cultural tensions set the tone for many. On a national and global scale, we have never experienced a year like 2020 before.

These disruptions impacted our individual lives, as well. Many of us worked from home. Parents unexpectedly became teachers. Businesses faced unprecedented challenges. We unnaturally distanced ourselves from one another. Face masks became commonplace and handshakes were few and far between. It was a weird year.

As strange as it was for individuals and families, 2020 was a year like no other for the Church, and Calvary was no exception. This booklet tells the story of how during this unique season Calvary continued to fulfill the mission of the church.

Together we celebrate God at work through His people.

At the beginning of 2020, I never could have imagined the year that we experienced. It was one of disruption and change for so many people. But as I look back, I am filled with gratitude. There is much to be thankful for.

I am thankful for the ministry of the church during 2020. Calvary’s incredible volunteers and faithful staff kept ministry happening online, outdoors, and in-person. Through innovation and perseverance, opportunities were consistently given for all of us to connect, grow, and serve in new ways.

I am thankful for the financial provision given to Calvary in 2020. Through God’s favor and your faithfulness, this past year was one of financial blessing. As a result of the investment of God’s people, ministry continued, missionaries were equipped, and future vision was advanced.

I am thankful for the people of Calvary. So many of you served and worshipped with a spirit of grace, humility, and love.

Calvary’s Deacon Board has led with wisdom in a season of uncertainty. Rhonda and I are honored to serve on Calvary’s staff with some of the finest people we know. Calvary truly is a special place.

As we look back and reflect on 2020, I am thankful most of all for Jesus. He is the one, scripture tells us, that “is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). God has been faithful to His church in the past and we believe He has great things in store as we look to the future.

We won’t soon forget 2020, but I am filled with anticipation when I think about the days ahead. God is preparing His Church for greater effectiveness. There are too many lost people. It is our vision and belief that, as we continue to serve Him, many more lives will be reached for Jesus Christ through the ministry of Calvary Church.

Calvary invited the congregation to prayerfully trust God, and take bold steps of faith, to make room for many more to experience life-change at Calvary.

Tailored online services allowed Calvary to create authentic interractions between pastors and the congregation during Covid-19.

Celebrated the Class of 2020 by hosting a ‘Senior Graduate Drive-Thru,’ where hundreds of people from Calvary came to show love and support

Elevate Online Parenting Conference:

Once Ohio allowed for safe gatherings, Calvary transitioned to 12 weeks of in-person tent services.

Calvary held it’s first ever virtual Summer Blast.

Introduced Thursday night services to give Calvary the ability to record and enhance the Sunday morning livestream, as well as offer another service option for those who can not attend on Sundays.

186 donated supplies and toys to less fortunate members of the community through the Christmas In The 419 Catalog.

A Christmas, drive-in-style, light show, geared towards local families that presented over 3 weekends.
