Tokomairiro High School Newsletter...
SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.
Our triennial School Board Elections are coming up early next term. Parents and caregivers of Tokomairiro High School students are eligible to vote, determining who will be elected to govern our school for the next three years.
School Board Elections 2025 – Have Your Say
Every three years, schools across Aotearoa New Zealand hold school board elections, one of the largest acts of community democracy in the country. These elections are important. They help determine who will help govern our schools, shape their direction, and support their values.
This year, all schools will be holding elections, including Tokomairiro High School.
This is an opportunity to welcome fresh perspectives and strengthen the connection between our kura and its community. School boards play a crucial role in the life of the school, and they work best when they reflect the voices of those they serve
Election Timeline for Tokomairiro High School
• Nominations open: Friday 18 July
• Nominations close: Wednesday 6 August
• Voting papers issued: Wednesday 13 August
• Voting closes: 4pm, Wednesday 10 September
• New Board takes office: Wednesday 17 September
• First meeting of new Board: Wednesday 24 September
What Does the School Board Do?
The board of trustees is responsible for the governance of the school. This includes setting the long-term direction, ensuring effective financial and property management, supporting the principal, and monitoring student achievement. It’s a vital role that supports the success and wellbeing of our students.
You don’t need to be an education expert to stand. We are looking for people who care about the school, believe in its future, and want to contribute positively to our community.
Standing for Election
If you are a parent or caregiver of a student enrolled at the school, you are likely eligible to stand and to vote. Once nominations open, those wishing to stand must complete a nomination form. You may also submit a short candidate statement to help the community get to know you and what you would bring to the board.
If the number of nominations is the same or fewer than the number of vacancies, the nominees will be elected unopposed. If there are more nominations than positions, an election will be held. Voting will be conducted by post or hand-delivery only. All eligible voters will receive voting papers and can return them either by post or by dropping them in at the school office.

Board elections are about more than paperwork and deadlines. They’re about local voice, community leadership, and ensuring our school is guided by people who understand the values and aspirations of our whānau.
If you are thinking about standing, or would like to know more about what the role involves, we’d be very happy to talk with you. Please get in touch through the school office.
A strong board begins with a community that gets involved. We encourage you to consider how you might take part in this important process.

Milton Sub Assn Indoor Bowls
The first game for the Second Round cup was played last week when Glenledi defeated Milton Country Club 3 games to 1. They won 10-9, 14-2, 13-3 and lost 8-10. Moneymore had a bye.
Last week Milton went to Clinton to play the inter Sub Assn Rep games where Owaka come out the winners. The winners of the South Otago Hensilite Singles, Mixed pairs, Mixed Fours and Master Fours were played at Invercargill at the weekend against Otago, Southland and Central Otago with the winner going to the National Final.
News from the Trenches...
And the winner is Big Dawg Brendon Sheath who has emerged as the new King of Super Rugby Comp!!! Sheathy has come storming home off the long run up with an emphatic victory to claim the title. Second place went to Marty while 3rd place went to Lammy Moana. This was a huge night thoroughly enjoyed by the huge crowd. Special thanks for organizing the beautiful hangi feed that Ian, Wayne and Gav arranged. Woody ended up being closer to last!!!
Speaking of MasterChef our next celebration is for the Bacon and Egg competition which will be held on Saturday 19 July so get your secret recipes on the go. We have a Celebrity Judge, and also, as Lammy Moana has won the Corporate Couch that night so will be waited on. Pick the scores wasn't struck last week so it jackpot on that night as well
A certain member of the RSA has recently been asked for her membership to an Exclusive Members card reserved for Over 65’s. Unfortunately this person has numerous years to attain this standing.
Finally after the huge success of this years Super Rugby comp, our NPC Comp kicks off on Thursday 31 July and judging by the comments I anticipate another large number of entrants all trying to knock off Marty and take his crown. Can Sheathy back it up or is he a one shot pony??? - Private Spike Pike
Bible Reading for the Week

Toko Rugby Report
On Saturday Toko travelled to Evil Empire Clutha for the final round robin match of the season. Toko scored their first try through Jacob Keg on Legs Jenkins to take a narrow 7-5 lead for the majority of the first half. Unfortunately dropped passes and held up over the line prevented Toko from establishing a dominant lead despite numerous chances. Things got a bit tasty at the end of the first half when a scuffle took place which resulted in Dylan Greer sitting in the naughty seat and Clutha taking advantage to score 2 late tries and a 19-7 halftime score.
Toko brought on fresh legs in the second half and they made a huge impact. Keegan Ferguson scored two tries to make score 24-21 Clutha with 20 mins to go and Toko coming home strong. Unfortunately a forward pass not picked up resulting in Clutha scoring a try proved critical and deflating. Clutha ran out eventually winning 38-21. This was a thrilling match which could have gone either way.
Next week we get to execute retribution with a return match at Clutha in the semi final. Based on this performance Toko have an outstanding chance of winning so come along and support the boys.
In the Senior Grade Toko suffered a close loss 12-10 to West Taieri in another outstanding performance. Bad luck guys.
