Level 1 Te Reo Māori
This term, we are focused on developing oral language skills using the rich learning resource Papa Whakakōrero. This resource places strong emphasis on spoken conversation and practical language use. Students are learning to construct and use transitive verbal sentence structures as they build confidence in communicating in Te Reo Māori.
For example, they are learning how to say:
Kei te aha koe?" – What are you doing?
Kei te oma au. – I am running.
Kei te ahatia ngā tamariki? What are the children doing? They are swimming
This structure helps students understand how to identify the subject, verb, and object in a sentence a key skill in building fluency.

Student Attendance
Every day counts towards your child’ learning at school. Attending school gives your child the best opportunity to realise their full potential and do well in life.
Parents and caregiver expectations
Parents are legally required to enrol their children and make sure they attend school every day.
Parents play a big role in helping their children do well in school. You can do this by making sure your child goes to school every day and letting the school know if they're sick. If your child is unable to attend school you must let the school know the reason why.
Family holidays or taking time off for recreational activities are not acceptable reasons for being absent.
You are responsible for letting the school know if your children are moving schools and you need to make sure you enrol your children in their next school right away.

Toko Rugby Report
With a lot of banging going on during the weekend Toko Premiers match vs West Taieri was brought forward to Thursday night under lights. In my personal opinion I wouldn't have agreed to playing under lights as we tend to struggle but Toko fronted up.
In wet conditions Toko took on West Taieri and proceeded to play smash mouth footy with the Toko forwards playing to the conditions better and rumbling forwards. Toko took the much vaunted West Taieri scrum to the cleaners at time which they responded with usual ill discipline. Tries to Teimana Rewita and McLeod Glaister meant Toko had a narrow 17-14 lead at halftime. The second half was a messy affair due to deteriorating conditions and Toko were unfortunately unable to add to their score with West Taieri running out narrow winners 22 17 at full-time.
For Toko Jimmy Agnew and Keegan Ferguson had massive games and Ethan Harrex used his experience. Damon Clement and lightening Lockie Finch were best of Toko backs in difficult conditions.
This coming Saturday there will be a 7A side tournament at Clutha for all Toko Junior teams so good luck there. Also on Saturday both Toko Seniors and Premiers take on Evil Empire Clutha at home so we need a massive amount of support for both Toko teams. When Toko win they will secure the South Otago banner along with other trophies so Saturday promises a day not to be missed.

That concludes Duck Shooting weekend with plenty of RSA members keenly anticipating high numbers of Ducks being sorted out. Some of the members have a intense relationship with their guns with one member sleeping with it on the Friday prior. The big winner of the RSA Duck Weigh In was Donny Hickey who recorded the heaviest Mallard in front of one of the biggest crowds we have had for Weigh In and BBQ which was a very popular winner.
As per usual there were the usual hard luck stories with an RSA member getting cast on his back as ducks landed. It was described to me looking like a Panda eating Bamboo. On the same maimai the shooters lost quite a few ducks due to unexplained reasons. Another maimai had the misfortune of having guns jamming as a huge number of ducks came sauntering in and left with a lucky escape.
All in all another successful event held at Milton RSA (South Otago Entertainment Capital). Now sssssh let's keep the last item a bit discreet as a wee Birdy has told me that Snow Cowie may have entered a new decade his week, so go give him a wee cuddle if you seem him this week.
