Over the long weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting a special reunion for our alumni from 1982 and 1983.
Despite some heavy rain, a large group turned out to reconnect with their roots and reminisce about their time at the school.
Mr Bill McClure, our Deputy Principal, captivated everyone with his kōrero on the school's history and evolution over the last 40 years.

camp. First we visited the Aquarium in Dunedin where we learnt about the ocean's food web and dissected squid. After lunch we walked the Hawksbury Lagoon walk where we observed the different bird life before having a swim at Waikouaiti beach. The next day we went to McKerrow's Pond where we split into three groups and kayaked, used sail boats and did some team building games. We also swam in the pond. This was a highlight of camp for many.
After lunch at the pond we went for a walk along the beach at Moeraki. We did a scavenger hunt on the beach and then had photos on the boulders. After this we walked the Moeraki lighthouse walk. We sat on the banks at the end and watched heaps of seals and pups swimming in the rock pools or sleeping on the rocks. This was very cool.
On Thursday we went through to Oamaru where we visited the SteamPunk museum, explored the old part of town and walked along the Oamaru pier. We then had lunch at the wharf playground.

Hearing past students share their memories was both fascinating and heartwarming some things at our kura have certainly changed, while others remain steadfast!

When we got back to camp we did an orienteering course around the campsite and also completed the camp confidence course. After this we went down to the river below camp where we swam, jumped and played in the river. That night we played spotlight. Lots of games of cricket, frisbee or card games were also held during our free time at camp. Finally on our last day we headed to Moana Pool once we were packed up. We swam, went on the hydroslides and jumped off the diving boards.
A huge thank you to all the parents that came away with us, it was very much appreciated. It was a great four days away.

What an exciting week it has been! Last week, our Year 7 and 8 students embarked on their much-anticipated camp adventure. Bright and early on Tuesday, they set off for four action-packed days at Camp Iona, returning Friday afternoon with big smiles, plenty of stories, and just a hint of exhaustion! Huge thanks to Mrs. Erica Milligan, whose planning made this camp possible, and to Ms. Natasha Freeman and Mrs. Clare Healey for their wonderful support and enthusiasm throughout.
Ex-students also converged on the school for their reunion over the weekend. It was interesting for us to hear about their time here and for them to see how the school has progressed since they were students.
Students in Years 8 and 9 have now received their 2025 course selection booklets, and the digital version is also on our website. It’s an exciting time for them to explore their options! Course selections will be made through the portal, with criteria outlined clearly in the booklet. For any queries about courses or the process, please reach out we’re here to help.
The deadline for course selection is Friday 1st November.
With NCEA exams just around the corner, senior reports are on their way to caregivers via email this Friday. These will give an updated summary of each student's NCEA progress. If you don’t receive the report, please let us know so we can resend it, and feel free to contact us with any questions about the report or credits.

Are you looking to play outdoor bowls for the school next year?
Milton Bowling Club is hosting a FREE coaching clinic on Mondays from 3.30-6pm. Drop in any time you like for a roll up and some coaching with experienced players. This offer is also open to friends, family and teachers. If you want to join the club and play competitively, see Mrs J at school or email kylie@tokohigh. school.nz.
We will be entering some inter-school competitions next year and this will be a great way to build a foundation and learn the rules and tactics.
Starting Wednesday, many of our senior students will begin study leave to prepare for their exams. They’re welcome to come into school for support from teachers, but please remind them to make appointments in advance, wear their uniform, and sign in at the office.
These kick off at Tokomairiro High School with Level 2 Mathematics on the morning of Tuesday 5 November. Mr McClure will be sending affected students and their parents a reminder message on the night before each exam. While it is true that no one assessment determines the course of an individual’s life, we also encourage students to put a respectable amount of time and effort into preparing for these external examinations. We are confident that we will have much to celebrate when the results are released in mid-January!
From Monday, 4th November, our Junior students will complete their end-of-year assessments in Literacy, Numeracy, and Science. Students will be told by their teachers when their assessments are and what they will need to bring with them.
Just a quick reminder that our cellphone-free policy, introduced at the start of Term Two, is still going strong. Students are expected to keep their phones tucked away during the school day, including lunch breaks, and caregivers can always reach them via the office if needed. This applies to our senior students too, who may be on site for study sessions or exams.

And BOOM!!! Just like that it's all done and dusted for another year. Final game is finished and all that is left is the NPC prize giving this coming Friday from 6pm. Now there has been a lot of stress with claim and counter claims, with plenty of controversy surrounding who has won the tipping comp. Scrutiners triple checking scores with protest lodged. All will be revealed on Friday to see who will have their name on the coveted Bert Pringle shield. Come along and enjoy the hangi feast as well.
The pick the score jackpot is still alive with plenty of $$$ available to be won. Amazing considering the level of so called rugby knowledge, example a Maori fireman missed out by one point to win the prize. Next up is AB vs England. Just a good warm up with AB vs Ireland on Saturday 9th November 9am where we are having a breakfast so register your interest.
Our membership draw has been struck couple of times in recent weeks which emphasize how popular our Thursday night draws are going.
Good to see plenty of ex Toko HS folk attended a reunion last week with a few having a couple of refreshments at the RSA including milkshakes.
