Darts Success
Last Friday our newly formed Darts Team competed at the Dunedin Darts competition. It was the first competition that the team has entered. There were 16 teams in total and the pair of Hunter Dodds and Leo Lister made the quarter finals, while the pair of Tyrese Gemmell and Jackson Savage secured third overall. This is a great achievement and well deserved.
We currently have 14 players in our school squad and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for these players.
Sharp Shooters...Jackson and Tyrese with their medals.
A huge congratulations to Hunter and Leo ( Flight team), and Tyrese and Jackson (Sharp Shooters), and a massive thank you to Mrs Johnston for her input into the team.
BYOD for 2025
Tokomairiro High School will be moving to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) system for 2025.
Year 7 and 8 students will still have access to a chromebook during the school day but it is recommended that all older students bring their own device to school. Details of appropriate devices are available on the school website and students will need to complete a BYOD agreement which is available on the website or at the office.
Our preferred supplier is Noel Leeming who has a selection of devices that meet the criteria. They have already let us know that they will be having some specials available over the coming weeks with Black Friday and Cyber Monday approaching.

Tokomairiro High School Newsletter...
SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.
This week will be the last full week of the school year for many of our senior students who will be starting study leave next week. It is always a bittersweet week for our Year 13 students who are coming to the end of their school life. It has become a tradition in our school for the Year 13 students to dress up during their final days at school and I am looking forward to seeing what their creative themes are this year. Also this week our Year 7 and 8 students have headed off to camp. I am sure that they will have a great time and I am looking forward to seeing all the photographs and hearing all the stories on their return.
2025 Junior Course Selection
All students in Years 8 and 9 were given a copy of the course selection booklet. This is also available on the school website. Students will need to make their selection on the portal. There are a number of criteria that students need to meet when selecting their 2025 courses and these are clearly explained in the course booklet. If you have any questions regarding courses or the selection process please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Enrolments for 2025

Students moving into close-living situations
Meningitis is a potentially deadly disease that can kill in a matter of hours or cause lifelong disability. It can be easily spread in places where people live in close proximity to each other. To help stop the transmission of this disease Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Prevention Directorate Immunisation team are offering free meningococcal vaccinations for young people aged 13-25 years (inclusive) who are entering, or in their first year of residing in certain close-living situations such as tertiary education halls of residence or military barracks.
Eligible students are funded to receive protection from two vaccines which can be given at the same time. The funded vaccine for meningococcal B is called Bexsero and requires two doses given 8 weeks apart. The funded vaccine for the meningococcal ACWY is called MenQuadfi and only requires one dose. Both vaccines are usually given into the upper arm and can be given at the same time as other vaccines e.g. HPV and measles vaccines. For the best protection, the course should be completed before moving into the facility and is free from 3 months before moving in.
Vaccines are available through GPs, Hauora Māori and Pacific providers, youth and university health services, and some community pharmacies.
Tiny’s Milton Butchery
At the start of Term two this year the school successfully implemented the nationwide cellphone ban for students. It is a timely reminder that this is still in force and students who use their cellphones during the school day including lunchtime should expect that they will be confiscated. Caregivers can contact students via the office if necessary. Many of our senior students will be starting study leave soon and just coming into school for either exams or study sessions. During these times the cellphone ban still applies to all students.

News from the Trenches...
And it looks like it all comes down to one game. This week the NPC Final between Wellington and BOP is going to decide our Tipping Comp. This has turned into one of the closest competition we have ever run with from what I understand potentially seven entrants within 4 points of the leader with the final game worth 5 points. So who can keep their never and who will choke!!! All will be revealed on Friday 1st November with the prize giving along with a hangi to provide plenty of good tucker. You can cut the tension with a knife, you only have to see how stressed the leaders are. Just a reminder that the Melbourne Cup is rapidly approaching and the RSA is the best venue to watch this great race. So come along on first Tuesday in November. Also we have our Xmas Ham raffles available so get your numbers chosen. Speaking of that, I was at the Warehouse on Sunday and they had Xmas decorations!!! What the heck, it's still October.
Reminder to come along and watch ABs vs Japan on Saturday at 5 30pm with pick the score jackpot still available to be won. It's over $600 at present. Finally we are looking for interest for a breakfast on Sunday 9 November as ABs vs Ireland are being played. Sounds like an excellent idea to start the day. Put your name down at RSA.
Our membership is continuing to grow as it's clearly the No 1 social establishment in South Otago so welcome to those, especially Peter Pettigrew who looks like a dangerous character. See you all there.
