From the Workshop….

The Year 11 students taking Materials Technology have completed their second project for the year. There is a bit of written work to finish and one more project to complete to gain all the credits offered.
The Year 9 and 10 students have been creating some pleasing clock designs.

Year 9, 10 and 11 Art
This week in the art room we saw the Year 11s put the finishing touches on their portrait project.
A group of students looked at Nigel Brown and Philip Clairmont before portraying each other through photographs, paintings and woodcut prints.

Here is the work of Jackson Savage, Millanian Potae and Liam

Student Attendance
Every day counts towards your child’ learning at school. Attending school gives your child the best opportunity to realise their full potential and do well in life.
What if my child is feeling anxious?

Anxiety is a normal response to situations that are new or stressful. Children can feel anxious about school for many different reasons relating to their learning, relationships or things happening outside of school.
Try and find out what is worrying your child and work together with your child’s school to understand and support them to attend school.

Meanwhile, the Year 9 and 10s have been working on collage and painting compositions inspired by Ra Gossage.

SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.
We might only have a short amount of time left before the end of term but we still have a lot to fit into our busy term. Students are looking forward to Blue Mountain Sports Exchange next week as well as other smaller events. With the end of term comes the end of the semester for students in Years 9 and 10 and for many of our senior students. This means that students need to ensure that they have completed all their assessments before the break

Pink Shirt Day
The origins of Pink Shirt Day trace back to a simple but powerful gesture. In 2007, two students in Canada stood up for a fellow student who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Since then Pink Shirt Day has grown into a global reminder to stand up against bullying. Bullying takes many forms physical, verbal, social and cyber. It can leave deep scars, affecting people's self-esteem and mental health that can last for years afterwards. It is our collective responsibility to create a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. We are going to be acknowledging Pink Shirt Day on Friday 21st June. There will be a pink themed mufti day (gold coin donation) and fun events throughout the day for students to get involved in. All money raised will be donated to the Mental Health Foundation. Pink Shirt Day is more than just wearing a pink shirt. It’s a commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and included. It’s about creating a culture of kindness and understanding in our school, our community, and our world.
E tū kotahi tātou, kia kaha rā tātou ki te whakamutu i te whakatoi. Let us stand together and be strong in stopping bullying.

Dress Swap
The School Ball is taking place towards the end of next term. This is always a fabulous evening but it can be an expensive evening for our students. To help with the cost and to make the evening more accessible to all students Madeleine Clarke, one of our Year 12 students, is organising a Dress Swap. However, for the dress swap to be successful we need help. We are looking for donations of dresses, heels, suits, ties and dress shoes of any size and colour. All donations can be dropped off at the school office and closer to the event students will be able to try on the items and hopefully find something new to wear to the ball.
Reports
Mid year school reports will be issued on Thursday 27th June . Reports will be emailed out so if you have any changes in your email address please can you let us know so we can update our records. If you do not receive your child’s report please first of all check that it hasn’t been directed to the SPAM folder and if it is not there please contact the school office so it can be resent. If you have any questions after reading the report please do not hesitate to make contact with us.
Winter Illness
We are seeing quite a lot of winter illness at school at the moment. If students are too ill to attend school we do ask that the school office is notified each day of the absence. Please also remember that Te Whatu ora has released guidance for parents and school leaders on when it is okay for a child to still be at school and when an unwell child should be at home. The information is available on the Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand website; it can be found on the Childhood Illnesses page and covers a range of illnesses.

Fifty Years Celebrated
Father Wayne Healey and Parish Priest of South Otago, Father Jacob celebrated Mass in our Lady of Conception Church Milton along with family and parishioners on Sunday 9 June in remembrance of Fr Wayne’s fifty years of Priesthood.

Toko Training Receives Grant
The Otago Community Trust has awarded $492, 678 in its latest grants round, supporting a diverse range of initiatives that will enrich the region through science engagement, performing arts, music education and youth development opportunities.
A $25,000 grant to Tokomairiro High School funds an innovative Forestry Pathways Training program in Milton. Tailored to students at risk of disengaging from education, this hands-on course provides practical skills, work experience and pre-employment training to prepare students for careers in the local forestry industry.
“Tokomairiro Training is extremely grateful to the Otago Community Trust for the generous grant given to us which will make it possible to run our Forestry Pathways Course in 2025” says Lynda Allan, manager of Tokomairiro Training. With strong industry partnerships facilitating work experience placements and 100% attendance rates, the goal is for all students to seamlessly transition into sustainable forestry or wider primary sector employment. “This course has a proven success rate, whereby eight students each year (100%) are placed into full time sustainable employment.”

He was ordained in St Joseph’s Cathedral Dunedin on 7th June 1974.
He expressed his pride of being a local boy from Milton who began his studies for Priesthood in 1968 with 30 other students from New Zealand and Pacific Islands. Of the 30, only two (one from the North Island and Wayne from the South Island ) remain to celebrate the 50 year milestone.

News from the Trenches...
Another week of rain throughout the last few days has dampened all the heat that is coming out of the RSA.
We are organising a trip to Roger Mahan's Vintage Museum on Saturday 29th June for all RSA members and invited guests. So if you are keen to go along let the RSA know by 21st June so we can keep track of numbers.
Also coming up this Friday night is a games night -RSA vs Milton Fire Brigade - so come along and enjoy the fun and banter. Will be an excellent night. Those that are on our Facebook page, some of those games posted by a member in recent weeks could be included. Hopefully RSA have been practising.
Finally this column is well established for sending factual information and I've heard another Public Service Announcement. I've heard that someone purchased brand new car seat covers which they mistakenly thought they could install within minutes. 3 hrs later with various frustrations including banging their head on the horn giving themselves a large fright. Eventually they finally read the instructions and discovered how easy it was. They may have been upside down but I can't confirm that part...

Milton Information Centre and Museum Report
Volunteer Week thanks must go to those who give of their time and talents at the Information Centre and Museum, without these folks we could not continue to offer the services we do.
A huge thank you to all who managed to come along to our Book Sale on such a challenging weather day, so windy we could not have the sign out. We hope you found some good reading or enjoyed some refreshments thanks to the Lovell’s Flat W.I. Ladies.
The Lions Club assisted with the set up and putting away of the boxes of books for which we are grateful. Raffles were won by Tina Broderick, Dorothy Blair and Rob Hand. Books are always welcome to be donated throughout the year or take advantage of a selection on the stand just inside the door.
Looking for something to do on an indoor sort of day, come into the Centre and see what is on offer. On display we have some amazing sketchbooks kindly donated by Colin Heads. These drawings are a wonderful history of the district and a changing selection will feature over the coming weeks.

Toko Rugby Report
On Saturday in wet weather more suited to ducks, Toko Premiers hosted West Taieri in a hard fought match
West Taieri were expected to romp away comfortably as they went out to a 24-3 halftime lead, but Toko upped the ante physically in the second half to roar back to close the gap 2417 with 20 mins to go. West Taieri went up another gear to run out winners 41-22 which the scoreboard didn't reflect the intensity of the match. For Toko, Damon Clement, Liam Kingma and Seth Rogan scored tries.
As per previous week's Toko Premiers stuck to their tasks with Harry Greer particularly outstanding. Not far behind him were Tim Smaill and Liam Kingma. Due to injuries, an SOS call went out and Levin Coulter-Butler, Dylan Bungard and Simon Scott turned back time. Simon Scott aka SImon Reece showed his skills on the wing.
Also on a roll is Toko Seniors who recorded their second win in a row with an outstanding come back victory 18-15 vs Eastern. This team is getting the rewards for their hard work. Next week for Toko Premiers it doesn't get any easier with an away game vs Evil Empire (Clutha).
